And David arose, and came to the
place where Saul had pitched: and David
beheld the
place where Saul lay, and
Abner the son of
Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the
trench, and the people pitched round about him.
Then David set out and went to the
place where Saul had camped. He saw the
place where Saul and
Abner son of
Ner, the general of his army, had
lain down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the camp, with the troops camped around him.
Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
Saul said to him, “May you be blessed, David my son. You will
accomplish great things and will surely prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.
And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be assigned a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. For why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
And the princes of the Philistines were
wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his
place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an
adversary to us: for
wherewith should he
reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the
place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our
adversary during the war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
And to them which were in
Hebron, and to all the
places where David himself and his men were
wont to
haunt.
and to those in
Hebron and in all the
places where David and his men had
roamed.
The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!
“Your glory, O Israel, lies slain on your heights. How the mighty have fallen!
How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O
Jonathan, thou
wast slain in thine high
places.
How the mighty have fallen in the thick of battle!
Jonathan lies slain on your heights.
And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that
place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in
Gibeon.
Then each man
grabbed his
opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his
opponent’s side, and they all fell together. So this
place, which is in
Gibeon, is called Helkath-hazzurim.
Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore
Abner with the hinder end of the
spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the
spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same
place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the
place where
Asahel fell down and died stood still.
But
Asahel refused to turn away; so
Abner thrust the
butt of his
spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man
paused when he came to the
place where
Asahel had fallen and died.
And
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.
Then
Abner sent messengers in his
place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”
And David came to
Baal-perazim, and David
smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that
place Baal-perazim.
So David went to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, the LORD has
burst out against my enemies before me.” So he called that
place Baal-perazim.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the
place Perez-uzzah to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that
place Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
In all the
places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of
cedar?
In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people Israel, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
Moreover I will
appoint a
place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a
place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness
afflict them any more, as
beforetime,
And I will provide a
place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a
place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he
placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And he put garrisons in
Edom; throughout all
Edom put he garrisons, and all they of
Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
He
placed garrisons throughout
Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of
Abishai his brother, that he might put them in
array against the children of
Ammon.
And he
placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother
Abishai, who
arrayed them against the
Ammonites.
And it came to pass, when
Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a
place where he knew that
valiant men were.
So as
Joab besieged the city, he assigned Uriah to a
place where he saw the strongest enemy soldiers.
And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight
whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the
spoil of the city in great abundance.
Then he took the crown from the head of their king. It
weighed a talent of gold and was set with precious stones, and it was
placed on David’s head. And David took a great amount of
plunder from the city.
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and
tarried in a
place that was far off.
So the king set out with all the people following him. He stopped at the last house,
Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy
place, and
abide with the king: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.
Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why should you also go with us? Go back and stay with the new king, since you are both a foreigner and an exile from your homeland.
And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.
But Ittai answered the king, “As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be!”
And the king said unto
Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and
shew me both it, and his
habitation:
Then the king said to
Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and let me see both it and His dwelling
place again.
The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose
stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of
Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a
bloody man.
The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose
place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son
Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of
bloodshed!”
Behold, he is
hid now in some pit, or in some other
place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that
whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow
Absalom.
Surely by now he is hiding in a cave or some other
location. If some of your troops fall first,
whoever hears of it will say, ‘There has been a slaughter among the troops who follow
Absalom.’
So shall we come upon him in some
place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the
dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
Then we will attack David wherever we find him, and we will descend on him like
dew on the ground. And of all the men with him, not even one will remain.
So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;
So David’s army marched into the field to
engage Israel in the battle, which took
place in the forest of Ephraim.
Now
Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a
pillar, which is in the king’s
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he called the
pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day,
Absalom’s
place.
During his lifetime,
Absalom had set up for himself a
pillar in the King’s Valley, for he had said, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the
pillar his name, and to this day it is called
Absalom’s Monument.
And say ye to
Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of
Joab.
And say to
Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if from this time you are not the commander of my army in
place of
Joab!’”
And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king
kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own
place.
So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king
kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and Barzillai returned home.
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in
widowhood.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace, and he
placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer
slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.
He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
He brought me out into the open; He
rescued me because He delighted in me.
He maketh my feet like hinds feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights.
Strangers shall
fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close
places.
Foreigners lose heart and come
trembling from their strongholds.
But the man that shall touch them must be
fenced with iron and the staff of a
spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same
place.
The man who touches them must be armed with iron or with the shaft of a
spear. The fire burns them to ashes in the
place where they lie.”
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my
place.”
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: and
Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of
Abiathar.
And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in
Joab’s
place over the army, and he appointed
Zadok the priest in
Abiathar’s
place.
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
The people, however, were still sacrificing on the high places because a house for the Name of the LORD had not yet been built.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high
place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
Now the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high
place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar there.
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in.
Baana the son of Ahilud; to him
pertained Taanach and
Megiddo, and all Beth-shean, which is by Zartanah beneath
Jezreel, from Beth-shean to
Abel-meholah, even unto the
place that is beyond Jokneam:
Baana son of Ahilud in Taanach, in
Megiddo, and in all of Beth-shean next to Zarethan below
Jezreel, from Beth-shean to
Abel-meholah and on past Jokmeam;
Barley also and straw for the horses and
dromedaries brought they unto the
place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.
Each one also brought to the required
place their quotas of barley and straw for the
chariot horses and other horses.
And
Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had
anointed him king in the room of his father: for
Hiram was ever a lover of David.
Now when
Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been
anointed king in his father’s
place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for
Hiram had always been a friend of David.
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’
My servants shall bring them down from
Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the
place that thou shalt
appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt
accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My servants will
haul the logs from
Lebanon to the Sea, and I will
float them as rafts by sea to the
place you
specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
The
nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
The bottom floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits, and the third floor seven cubits. He also
placed offset ledges around the outside of the temple, so that nothing would be inserted into its walls.
And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of
cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the
oracle, even for the most holy
place.
He partitioned off the twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with
cedar boards from floor to
ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy
Place.
And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other
cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
And he
placed the
cherubim inside the
innermost room of the temple. Since their wings were spread out, the wing of the first
cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the second
cherub touched the other wall, and in the middle of the room their wingtips touched.
And Solomon made all the vessels that
pertained unto the house of the LORD: the altar of gold, and the table of gold,
whereupon the
shewbread was,
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of the LORD: the golden altar; the golden table on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
And the
bowls, and the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy
place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple.
the pure gold basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers; and the gold hinges for the doors of the inner temple (that is, the Most Holy
Place) as well as for the doors of the main hall of the temple.
So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.
So all the work that King Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the furnishings—and he
placed them in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his
place, into the
oracle of the house, to the most holy
place, even under the wings of the cherubims.
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its
place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy
Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the
place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the
staves thereof above.
For the
cherubim spread their wings over the
place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.
And they drew out the
staves, that the ends of the
staves were seen out in the holy
place before the
oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
The poles extended far enough that their ends were visible from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had
placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of the land of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,
And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud filled the house of the LORD
I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled
place for thee to
abide in for ever.
I have indeed built You an
exalted house, a
place for You to dwell
forever.”
And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with our fathers when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”
That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the
place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this
place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
And
hearken thou to the
supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this
place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling
place: and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this
place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling
place. May You hear and
forgive.
When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have
sinned against thee; if they pray toward this
place, and
confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:
When the
skies are shut and there is no rain because Your people have
sinned against You, and they pray toward this
place and
confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have
afflicted them,
Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling
place, and
forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling
place. And may You
forgive and act, and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of all men—
Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
Then hear thou their prayer and their
supplication in heaven thy dwelling
place, and maintain their cause,
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling
place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause.
The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were stays on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the stays.
The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
And Solomon
slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his
place.
And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
Jeroboam also built shrines on the high
places and appointed from every class of people priests who were not Levites.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he
placed in
Bethel the priests of the high
places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high
places he had set up.
And he
cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David,
Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high
places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
And he
cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, “O altar, O altar, this is what the LORD says: ‘A son named
Josiah will be born to the house of David, and upon you he will sacrifice the priests of the high
places who burn incense upon you, and human bones will be burned upon you.’”
And the man of God said unto the king, If thou
wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this
place:
But the man of God replied, “If you were to give me half your possessions, I still would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.
And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
But the man replied, “I cannot return with you or eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
But camest back, and hast eaten bread and
drunk water in the
place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy
carcase shall not come unto the
sepulchre of thy fathers.
but you went back and
ate bread and
drank water in the
place where He told you not to do so, your body shall never reach the tomb of your fathers.’”
For the saying which he
cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in
Bethel, and against all the houses of the high
places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
for the message that he
cried out by the word of the LORD against the altar in
Bethel and against all the shrines on the high
places in the cities of Samaria will surely come to pass.”
After this thing
Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high
places:
whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high
places.
Even after these events,
Jeroboam did not
repent of his evil ways, but again he appointed priests for the high
places from every class of people. He ordained
anyone who desired to be a priest of the high
places.
And the days which
Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he
slept with his fathers, and
Nadab his son reigned in his
stead.
And the length of
Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years, and he rested with his fathers, and his son
Nadab reigned in his
place.
For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.
They also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
And king
Rehoboam made in their
stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their
place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And
Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David; his mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite. And his son Abijam reigned in his
place.
And Abijam
slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead.
And Abijam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David, and his son
Asa reigned in his
place.
But the high
places were not removed: nevertheless
Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.
The high
places were not removed, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all his days.
And
Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and
Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Asa rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David, and his son
Jehoshaphat reigned in his
place.
Even in the third year of
Asa king of Judah did
Baasha slay him, and reigned in his
stead.
In the third year of
Asa’s reign over Judah,
Baasha killed
Nadab and reigned in his
place.
So
Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah: and Elah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Baasha rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah, and his son Elah reigned in his
place.
And Zimri went in and
smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of
Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his
stead.
So in the twenty-seventh year of
Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. And Zimri reigned in his
place.
So Omri
slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: and
Ahab his son reigned in his
stead.
And Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and his son
Ahab reigned in his
place.
Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one
bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other
bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
Get two bulls for us. Let the prophets of
Baal choose one bull for themselves, cut it into pieces, and
place it on the wood but not light the fire. And I will prepare the other bull and
place it on the wood but not light the fire.
And he put the wood in order, and cut the
bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, placed it on the wood,
And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
So do this: Dismiss all the kings from their positions and replace them with other officers.
And
Ahab spake unto
Naboth, saying, Give me thy
vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better
vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.
So
Ahab said to
Naboth, “Give me your
vineyard to use as a vegetable garden, since it is next to my palace. I will give you a better
vineyard in its
place—or if you
prefer, I will give you its value in silver.”
And he said unto her, Because I spake unto
Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy
vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another
vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my
vineyard.
Ahab answered, “Because I spoke to
Naboth the Jezreelite and told him, ‘Give me your
vineyard for silver, or if you wish, I will give you another
vineyard in its
place.’ And he replied, ‘I will not give you my
vineyard!’”
And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the
place where dogs
licked the blood of
Naboth shall dogs
lick thy blood, even thine.
Tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Have you not murdered a man and seized his land?’ Then tell him that this is also what the LORD says: ‘In the
place where the dogs
licked up the blood of
Naboth, there also the dogs will
lick up your blood—
yes, yours!’”
And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void

Dressed in royal
attire, the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets
prophesying before them.
And
Ahab rested with his fathers, and his son
Ahaziah reigned in his
place.
And he walked in all the ways of
Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high
places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high
places.
And
Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of his father
Asa; he did not turn away from them, but did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. The high
places, however, were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high
places.
And
Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And his son Jehoram reigned in his
