said,
Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
But Jesus declared, “Someone touched Me, for I know that power has gone out from Me.”
And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
“Daughter,”
said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you. Go in peace.”
But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
But Jesus overheard them and
said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be
healed.”
And all
wept, and
bewailed her: but he
said,
Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
And he
said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither
staves, nor
scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats
apiece.
“Take nothing for the journey,” He told them, “no staff, no
bag, no bread, no money, no second
tunic.
Now Herod the
tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was
perplexed, because that it was
said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
When Herod the
tetrarch heard about all that was happening, he was
perplexed. For some were saying that John had risen from the dead,
And Herod
said, John have I
beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
“I
beheaded John,” Herod
said, “but who is this man I hear such things about?” And he kept trying to see Jesus.
And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and
said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and
lodge, and get
victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
As the day neared its end, the Twelve came to Jesus and
said, “Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding villages and
countryside for
lodging and provisions. For we are in a
desolate place here.”
But he
said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they
said, We have no more but five
loaves and two fishes; except we should go and
buy meat for all this people.
But Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat.” “We have only five
loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered, “unless we go and
buy food for all these people.”
For they were about five thousand men. And he
said to his disciples, Make them sit down by
fifties in a company.
(There were about five thousand men.) He told His disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”
They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, that a prophet of old has arisen.”
He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
“The Son of Man must suffer many things,” He
said. “He must be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Then Jesus
said to all of them, “If
anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
About eight days after Jesus had said these things, He took with Him Peter, John, and James, and went up on a mountain to pray.
And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
As Moses and
Elijah were leaving, Peter
said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
And Jesus answering
said, O faithless and
perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son
hither.
“O unbelieving and
perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
And they were all
amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he
said unto his disciples,
And they were all
astonished at the greatness of God. While
everyone was
marveling at all that Jesus was doing, He
said to His disciples,
And
said unto them,
Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and
whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
And He
said to them, “
Whoever welcomes this little child in My name welcomes Me, and
whoever welcomes Me welcomes the One who sent Me. For
whoever is the least among all of you, he is the greatest.”
And John answered and
said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we
forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
“Master,”
said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not
accompany us.”
And Jesus
said unto him,
Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
“Do not stop him,” Jesus replied, “for
whoever is not against you is for you.”
And when his disciples James and John saw this, they
said, Lord,
wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and
consume them, even as Elias did?
When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to
consume them?”
But he turned, and
rebuked them, and
said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man
said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee
whithersoever thou goest.
As they were walking along the road, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow You wherever You go.”
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”
And he
said unto another, Follow me. But he
said, Lord, suffer me first to go and
bury my father.
Then He
said to another man, “Follow Me.” The man replied, “Lord, first let me go and
bury my father.”
Jesus
said unto him, Let the dead
bury their dead: but go thou and
preach the kingdom of God.
But Jesus told him, “Let the dead
bury their own dead. You, however, go and
proclaim the kingdom of God.”
And another also
said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go
bid them
farewell, which are at home at my house.
Still another
said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first let me
bid farewell to my family.”
And Jesus
said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the
plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the
plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
And He told them, “The harvest is
plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.”
In that hour Jesus
rejoiced in spirit, and
said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast
hid these things from the wise and
prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
At that time Jesus
rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
“What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?”
And he answering
said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as
thyself.
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your
neighbor as
yourself.’”
And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus said. “Do this and you will live.”
But he, willing to
justify himself,
said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
And Jesus answering
said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, and fell among
thieves, which
stripped him of his
raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Jesus took up this question and
said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers. They
stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
And on the
morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave them to the host, and
said unto him, Take care of him; and
whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
The next day he took out two
denarii and gave them to the
innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he
said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
“The one who showed him mercy,” replied the
expert in the law. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
But
Martha was
cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and
said, Lord,
dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone?
bid her therefore that she help me.
But
Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and
said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
And Jesus answered and
said unto her,
Martha,
Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
And he
said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
So Jesus told them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father,
hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
And he
said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at
midnight, and say unto him, Friend,
lend me three
loaves;
Then Jesus
said to them, “Suppose one of you goes to his friend at
midnight and says, ‘Friend,
lend me three
loaves of bread,
But some of them
said, He casteth out devils through
Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
but some of them said, “It is by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, that He drives out demons.”
But he, knowing their thoughts,
said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to
desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and a house divided against a house will fall.
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through
arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and
said unto him, Blessed is the
womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast
sucked.
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and
said, “Blessed is the
womb that bore You, and blessed are the breasts that
nursed You!”
But he
said,
Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of
Jonas the prophet.
As the crowds were increasing, Jesus
said, “This is a wicked generation. It demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of
Jonah.
And the Lord
said unto him, Now do ye
Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the
platter; but your inward part is full of
ravening and wickedness.
“Now then,”
said the Lord, “you
Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and
dish, but inside you are full of
greed and wickedness.
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
One of the experts in the law told Him, “Teacher, when You say these things, You
insult us as well.”
And he
said,
Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye
lade men with burdens
grievous to be borne, and ye
yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
“
Woe to you as well, experts in the law!” He replied. “You
weigh men down with heavy burdens, but you
yourselves will not lift a finger to
lighten their load.
Therefore also
said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall
slay and
persecute:
Because of this, the wisdom of God
said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and others they will
persecute.’
As Jesus went on from there, the
scribes and
Pharisees began to
oppose Him bitterly and to
ply Him with questions about many things,
And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
But Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed Me judge or
executor between you?”
And he
said unto them, Take
heed, and
beware of
covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
And He
said to them, “Watch out! Guard
yourselves against every form of
greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
And he
said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I
bestow all my fruits and my goods.
Then he
said, ‘This is what I will do: I will
tear down my barns and will build
bigger ones, and there I will store up all my grain and my goods.
But God
said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
But God
said to him, ‘You
fool! This very night your life will be required of you. Then who will own what you have accumulated?’
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Then Jesus
said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.
Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
“Lord,”
said Peter, “are You addressing this parable to us, or to
everyone else as well?”
And the Lord
said, Who then is that faithful and wise
steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
And the Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise
manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their portion at the proper time?
And he
said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west,
straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
Then Jesus said to the crowds, “As soon as you see a cloud rising in the west, you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and that is what happens.
And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
To this He replied, “Do you think that these
Galileans were worse sinners than all the other
Galileans, because they suffered this fate?
Then
said he unto the dresser of his
vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
So he
said to the keeper of the
vineyard, ‘Look, for the past three years I have come to search for fruit on this fig tree and
haven’t found any. Therefore cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
And he answering
said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall
dig about it, and dung it:
‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone again this year, until I
dig around it and
fertilize it.
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and
said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine
infirmity.
When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your disability.”
And the ruler of the
synagogue answered with
indignation, because that Jesus had
healed on the sabbath day, and
said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be
healed, and not on the sabbath day.
But the
synagogue leader was
indignant that Jesus had
healed on the Sabbath. “There are six days for work,” he told the crowd. “So come and be
healed on those days and not on the Sabbath.”
The Lord then answered him, and
said, Thou
hypocrite,
doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his
ass from the
stall, and lead him away to watering?
“You hypocrites!” the Lord replied. “Does not each of you on the Sabbath
untie his ox or
donkey from the
stall and lead it to water?
And when he had
said these things, all his
adversaries were
ashamed: and all the people
rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Then
said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and
whereunto shall I resemble it?
Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?
Again He asked, “To what can I compare the kingdom of God?
Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
“Lord,” someone asked Him, “will only a few people be saved?” Jesus answered,
And he
said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to
morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
But Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘Look, I will keep driving out demons and
healing people
today and
tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach My
goal.’
Then
said he also to him that
bade him, When thou makest a
dinner or a
supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy
kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also
bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
Then Jesus
said to the man who had invited Him, “When you host a
dinner or a
banquet, do not
invite your friends or brothers or relatives or rich neighbors. Otherwise, they may
invite you in return, and you will be repaid.
And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
When one of those
reclining with Him heard this, he
said to Jesus, “Blessed is
everyone who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”
Then
said he unto him, A certain man made a great
supper, and
bade many:
But Jesus replied, “A certain man prepared a great
banquet and invited many guests.
And they all with one consent began to make
excuse. The first
said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me
excused.
But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first one
said, ‘I have bought a field, and I need to go see it. Please
excuse me.’
And another
said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me
excused.
Another
said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out. Please
excuse me.’
And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, so I cannot come.’
So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being
angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in
hither the poor, and the
maimed, and the
halt, and the blind.
The servant returned and reported all this to his master. Then the owner of the house became
angry and
said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and
alleys of the city, and bring in the poor, the
crippled, the blind, and the
lame.’
And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
‘Sir,’ the servant replied, ‘what you ordered has been done, and there is still room.’
And the lord
said unto the servant, Go out into the
highways and hedges, and
compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
So the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the
highways and hedges and
compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.
And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
Large crowds were now traveling with Jesus, and He turned and said to them,
And he said, A certain man had two sons:
Then Jesus said, “There was a man who had two sons.
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
The younger son said to him, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
And when he came to himself, he
said, How many
hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to
spare, and I perish with hunger!
Finally he came to his senses and
said, ‘How many of my father’s
hired servants have
plenty of food? But here I am,
starving to death!
And the son
said unto him, Father, I have
sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
The son declared, ‘Father, I have
sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
But the father
said to his servants, Bring forth the best
robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and
shoes on his feet:
But the father
said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best
robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and
sandals on his feet.
And he
said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the
fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
‘Your brother has returned,’ he
said, ‘and your father has killed the
fattened calf, because he has him back safe and sound.’
And he answering
said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither
transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a
kid, that I might make
merry with my friends:
But he answered his father, ‘Look, all these years I have served you and never disobeyed a commandment of yours. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could
celebrate with my friends.
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
‘Son, you are always with me,’ the father said, ‘and all that is mine is yours.
And he
said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a
steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
Jesus also
said to His disciples, “There was a rich man whose
manager was accused of wasting his possessions.
And he called him, and
said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy
stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer
steward.
So he called him in to ask, ‘What is this I hear about you? Turn in an account of your management, for you cannot be
manager any longer.’
The
manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking away my position? I am too weak to
dig and too
ashamed to
beg.
So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
And he called in each one of his master’s debtors. ‘How much do you owe my master?’ he asked the first.
And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
‘A hundred measures of olive oil,’ he answered. ‘Take your bill,’
said the
manager. ‘Sit down quickly, and write fifty.’
