Take his garment that is
surety for a stranger, and
take a
pledge of him for a strange woman.
Take the garment of him who posts security for a stranger; get
collateral if it is for a foreigner.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Every word of God is
flawless; He is a shield to those who
take refuge in Him.
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and
steal, and
take the name of my God in vain.
Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my God.
The
spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.
and the
lizard can be caught in one’s hands, yet it is found in the palaces of kings.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
What does a man gain from all his labor, at which he toils under the sun?
Yea, I
hated all my labour which I had
taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
I
hated all for which I had
toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who comes after me.
And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a
fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
And who knows whether that man will be wise or
foolish? Yet he will
take over all the labor at which I have worked
skillfully under the sun. This too is
futile.
For all his days are sorrows, and his
travail grief;
yea, his heart
taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
Indeed, all his days are filled with grief, and his task is sorrowful; even at night, his mind does not rest. This too is
futile.
I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing
taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
I know that everything God does endures
forever; nothing can be added to it or
taken from it. God does it so that they should fear Him.
Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and
foolish king, who will no more be
admonished.
Better is a poor but wise youth than an old but
foolish king who no longer knows how to
take a
warning.
When thou vowest a
vow unto God,
defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast
vowed.
When you make a
vow to God, do not delay in
fulfilling it, because He
takes no pleasure in fools.
Fulfill your
vow.
Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.
The produce of the earth is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields.
As he came forth of his mother’s
womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall
take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
As a man came from his mother’s
womb, so he will depart again, naked as he arrived. He
takes nothing for his labor to carry in his hands.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to
take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Furthermore, God has given riches and wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a gift from God.
It is better to go to the house of
mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
It is better to enter a house of
mourning than a house of feasting, since death is the end of every man, and the living should
take this to heart.
It is good that thou shouldest
take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings.
Also
take no
heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant
curse thee:
Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant
cursing you.
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the
sinner shall be
taken by her.
And I find more bitter than death the woman who is a
snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the
sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
It is the same for all: There is a common fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not. As it is for the good, so it is for the
sinner; as it is for the one who makes a
vow, so it is for the one who refuses to
take a
vow.
Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou
takest under the sun.
Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are
taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men
snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
For surely no man knows his time: Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds
trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an evil time that suddenly falls upon them.
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be
glad and
rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
Take me away with you—let us
hurry! May the king bring me to his chambers. We will
rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they
adore you.
Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that
spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
Catch for us the foxes— the little foxes that ruin the vineyards— for our vineyards are in
bloom.
I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I
defile them?
I have
taken off my
robe— must I put it back on? I have washed my feet— must I soil them again?
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
I said, “I will
climb the palm tree; I will
take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the
fragrance of your breath like apples,
To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
“What good to Me is your multitude of sacrifices?” says the LORD. “I am full from the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I take no delight in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely
purge away thy
dross, and
take away all thy tin:
I will turn My hand against you; I will thoroughly
purge your
dross; I will remove all your impurities.
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall
rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Then He will judge between the nations and
arbitrate for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into
pruning hooks. Nation will no longer
take up the sword against nation, nor train anymore for war.
For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts,
doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
For behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: the whole supply of food and water,
When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:
A man will seize his brother within his father’s house: “You have a
cloak—you be our leader!
Take charge of this
heap of
rubble.”
In that day the Lord will
take away the
bravery of their
tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
In that day the Lord will
take away their
finery: their anklets and headbands and crescents;
And in that day seven women shall
take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own
apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to
take away our reproach.
In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, “We will eat our own bread and provide our own clothes. Just let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!”
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my
vineyard: I will
take away the
hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be
trodden down:
Now I will tell you what I am about to do to My
vineyard: I will
take away its
hedge, and it will be consumed; I will
tear down its wall, and it will be
trampled.
Which
justify the wicked for reward, and
take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
who
acquit the guilty for a
bribe and deprive the innocent of justice.
Then
flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had
taken with the
tongs from off the altar:
And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is
taken away, and thy sin
purged.
And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is
atoned for.”
And say unto him,
Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be
fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
and say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Do not be afraid or
disheartened over these two
smoldering stubs of
firewood—over the fierce anger of Rezin and
Aram and of the son of Remaliah.
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
For
Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has
plotted your ruin, saying:
Moreover the LORD said unto me,
Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Take a large
scroll and write on it with an ordinary
stylus: Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the
spoil of Samaria shall be
taken away before the king of Assyria.
For before the boy knows how to cry ‘Father’ or ‘Mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the
plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”
Take counsel together, and it shall come to
nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.
Devise a plan, but it will be
thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For God is with us.”
And many among them shall
stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be
snared, and be
taken.
Many will
stumble over these; they will fall and be broken; they will be ensnared and captured.”
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an
hypocrite and an
evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord
takes no pleasure in their young men; He has no
compassion on their fatherless and widows. For every one of them is godless and wicked, and every mouth speaks folly.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
To turn aside the
needy from judgment, and to
take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may
rob the fatherless!
to deprive the poor of fair treatment and
withhold justice from the
oppressed of My people, to make widows their prey and orphans their
plunder.
I will send him against an
hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to
take the
spoil, and to
take the prey, and to
tread them down like the
mire of the streets.
I will send him against a godless nation; I will
dispatch him against a people destined for My
rage, to
take spoils and seize
plunder, and to
trample them down like clay in the streets.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be
taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the
anointing.
On that day the burden will be lifted from your shoulders, and the yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because your neck will be too large.
They are gone over the passage: they have
taken up their
lodging at Geba;
Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.
They have crossed at the
ford: “We will
spend the night at Geba.”
Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul flees.
Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to
flee.
Madmenah flees; the people of Gebim take refuge.
And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall
take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be
amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
Terror, pain, and
anguish will seize them; they will
writhe like a woman in labor. They will look at one another, their faces
flushed with fear.
And it shall be as the
chased roe, and as a sheep that no man
taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and
flee every one into his own land.
Like a
hunted gazelle, like a sheep without a
shepherd, each will return to his own people, each will
flee to his native land.
And the people shall
take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall
take them
captives, whose
captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
The nations will
escort Israel and bring it to its homeland. Then the house of Israel will possess the nations as menservants and maidservants in the LORD’s land. They will make
captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.
That thou shalt
take up this
proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the
oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
you will sing this song of contempt against the king of Babylon: How the
oppressor has ceased, and how his
fury has ended!
That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains
tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
I will break Assyria in My land; I will
trample him on My mountain. His yoke will be
taken off My people, and his burden removed from their shoulders.”
Take counsel,
execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the
noonday; hide the outcasts;
bewray not him that wandereth.
“Give us counsel; render a decision. Shelter us at
noonday with shade as dark as night. Hide the refugees; do not
betray the one who flees.
And
gladness is
taken away, and joy out of the
plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be
shouting: the treaders shall
tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their
vintage shouting to cease.
Joy and
gladness are removed from the
orchard; no one sings or shouts in the vineyards. No one tramples the grapes in the winepresses; I have put an end to the
cheering.
The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is
taken away from being a city, and it shall be a
ruinous heap.
This is the burden against Damascus: “Behold, Damascus is no longer a city; it has become a
heap of ruins.
For so the LORD said unto me, I will
take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.
For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place, like
shimmering heat in the
sunshine, like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.”
For
afore the harvest, when the
bud is perfect, and the
sour grape is
ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruninghooks, and
take away and cut down the branches.
For before the harvest, when the
blossom is gone and the flower becomes a
ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with a
pruning knife and remove and discard the branches.
Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.
Therefore my body is filled with
anguish. Pain grips me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am
bewildered to hear, I am dismayed to see.
Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.
Look, O mighty man! The LORD is about to
shake you violently. He will
take hold of you,
Is this your
joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her
afar off to
sojourn.
Is this your
jubilant city, whose origin is from antiquity, whose feet have
taken her to settle far away?
Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?
Who
planned this against Tyre, the
bestower of crowns, whose traders are princes, whose merchants are
renowned on the earth?
Take an
harp, go about the city, thou
harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet
melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
“
Take up your
harp,
stroll through the city, O forgotten
harlot. Make sweet
melody, sing many a song, so you will be remembered.”
And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the
maid, so with her
mistress; as with the
buyer, so with the seller; as with the
lender, so with the
borrower; as with the
taker of
usury, so with the giver of
usury to him.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be
taken in the
snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do
shake.
Whoever flees the sound of
panic will fall into the pit, and
whoever climbs from the pit will be caught in the
snare. For the windows of heaven are open, and the foundations of the earth are
shaken.
He will
swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will
wipe away tears from off all faces; and the
rebuke of his people shall he
take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
He will
swallow up death
forever. The Lord GOD will
wipe away the tears from every face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD has spoken.
Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.
Or let them lay claim to My protection; let them make peace with Me—
yes, let them make peace with Me.”
He shall cause them that come of Jacob to
take root: Israel shall
blossom and
bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.
In the days to come, Jacob will
take root. Israel will
bud and
blossom and fill the whole world with fruit.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to
take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like
crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.
And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a
fading flower, and as the
hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it
seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
The
fading flower of his beautiful
splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest:
Whoever sees it will
take it in his hand and
swallow it.
But the word of the LORD was unto them
precept upon
precept,
precept upon
precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and
snared, and
taken.
Then the word of the LORD to them will become: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there,” so that they will go
stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.
From the time that it goeth forth it shall
take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a
vexation only to understand the report.
As often as it passes through, it will carry you away; it will
sweep through morning after morning, by day and by night.” The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror.
Woe to the
rebellious children, saith the LORD, that
take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
“
Woe to the
rebellious children,” declares the LORD, “to those who carry out a plan that is not Mine, who form an alliance, but against My will,
heaping up sin upon sin.
That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to
strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
They set out to go down to Egypt without asking My advice, to seek shelter under Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shade.
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to
take fire from the
hearth, or to
take water
withal out of the pit.
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
He who walks righteously and speaks with
sincerity, who refuses gain from
extortion, whose hand never
takes a
bribe, who stops his ears against
murderous plots and shuts his eyes
tightly against evil—
Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be
taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that does not
wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be broken.
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well
strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great
spoil divided; the
lame take the prey.
Your ropes are
slack; they cannot secure the mast or spread the sail. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided, and even the
lame will carry off
plunder.
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath
taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again
take root
downward, and bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again
take root below and bear fruit above.
For Isaiah had said, Let them
take a
lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaister upon the
boil, and he shall recover.
Now Isaiah had said, “Prepare a
lump of pressed figs and apply it to the
boil, and he will recover.”
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they
take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a
bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he
taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Surely the nations are like a drop in a
bucket; they are considered a
speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
Yea, they shall not be planted;
yea, they shall not be sown:
yea, their stock shall not
take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the
whirlwind shall
take them away as
stubble.
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems
taken root in the ground, than He blows on them and they wither, and a
whirlwind sweeps them away like
stubble.
Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.
I brought you from the ends of the earth and called you from its
farthest corners. I said, ‘You are My servant.’ I have chosen and not rejected you.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
“I, the LORD, have called you for a righteous purpose, and I will
take hold of your hand. I will keep you and
appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations,
Therefore he hath poured upon him the
fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
So He poured out on them His
furious anger and the fierceness of battle. It
enveloped them in flames, but they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not
take it to heart.
One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall
subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and
surname himself by the name of Israel.
One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name of Israel.”
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them
shew unto them.
Who then is like Me? Let him say so! Let him declare his case before Me, since I established an ancient people. Let him
foretell the things to come, and what is to
take place.
Behold, all his fellows shall be
ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be
ashamed together.
Behold, all his companions will be put to shame, for the
craftsmen themselves are only human. Let them all
assemble and
take their stand; they will all be brought to terror and shame.
The smith with the
tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms:
yea, he is
hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is
faint.
The
blacksmith takes a tool and labors over the coals; he fashions an
idol with hammers and forges it with his strong arms. Yet he grows
hungry and loses his strength; he fails to drink water and grows
faint.
He heweth him down cedars, and
taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain
doth nourish it.
He cuts down cedars or retrieves a
cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a
laurel, and the rain makes it grow.
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will
take thereof, and warm himself;
yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread;
yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a
graven image, and falleth down
thereto.
It serves as fuel for man. He
takes some of it to warm himself, and he kindles a fire and bakes his bread; he even fashions it into a god and worships it; he makes an
idol and bows down to it.
Tell ye, and bring them near;
yea, let them
take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
Speak up and present your case—
yes, let them
take counsel together. Who
foretold this long ago? Who
announced it from ancient times? Was it not I, the LORD? There is no other God but Me, a righteous God and
Savior; there is none but Me.
Remember this, and
shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.
Remember this and be
brave;
take it to heart, you transgressors!
