Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Ye shall offer no strange incense
thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering
thereon.
On this altar you must not offer unauthorized incense or a burnt offering or grain offering; nor are you to pour a drink offering on it.
And Aaron shall make an
atonement upon
the horns of it once in a year with
the blood of
the sin offering of atonements: once in
the year shall he make
atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto
the LORD.
Once a year Aaron shall make
atonement on
the horns of
the altar. Throughout your generations he shall make
atonement on it annually with
the blood of
the sin offering of
atonement.
The altar is most holy to
the LORD.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
When thou takest
the sum of
the children of Israel after
their number,
then shall
they give every man a
ransom for his soul unto
the LORD, when thou numberest
them; that
there be no plague among
them, when thou numberest
them.
“When you take a census of
the Israelites to number
them, each man must pay
the LORD a
ransom for his life when he is counted.
Then no plague will come upon
them when
they are numbered.
This
they shall give, every one that passeth among
them that are numbered, half a
shekel after
the shekel of
the sanctuary: (a
shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half
shekel shall be
the offering of
the LORD.
Everyone who crosses over to those counted must pay a half
shekel, according to
the sanctuary
shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half
shekel is an offering to
the LORD.
Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
Everyone twenty years of age or older who crosses over must give this offering to
the LORD.
The rich shall not give more, and
the poor shall not give less than half a
shekel, when
they give an offering unto
the LORD, to make an
atonement for your souls.
In making
the offering to
the LORD to
atone for your lives,
the rich shall not give more than a half
shekel, nor shall
the poor give less.
And thou shalt take
the atonement money of
the children of Israel, and shalt
appoint it for
the service of
the tabernacle of
the congregation; that it may be a
memorial unto
the children of Israel before
the LORD, to make an
atonement for your souls.
Take
the atonement money from
the Israelites and use it for
the service of
the Tent of Meeting. It will serve as a
memorial for
the Israelites before
the LORD to make
atonement for your lives.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
And the LORD said to Moses,
Thou shalt also make a
laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash
withal: and thou shalt put it between
the tabernacle of
the congregation and
the altar, and thou shalt put water
therein.
“You are to make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. Set it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it,
For Aaron and his sons shall wash
their hands and
their feet
thereat:
with which Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet.
When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:
Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made by fire to the LORD, they must wash with water so that they will not die.
So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.
Thus they are to wash their hands and feet so that they will not die; this shall be a permanent statute for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”
Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Take thou also unto
thee principal spices, of pure
myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet
cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet
calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
And of
cassia five hundred shekels, after
the shekel of
the sanctuary, and of oil olive an
hin:
500 shekels of
cassia—all according to
the sanctuary
shekel—and a
hin of olive oil.
And thou shalt
anoint the tabernacle of
the congregation
therewith, and
the ark of
the testimony,
Use this oil to
anoint the Tent of Meeting,
the ark of
the Testimony,
And
the table and all his vessels, and
the candlestick and his vessels, and
the altar of incense,
the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense,
And
the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and
the laver and his foot.
the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.
And thou shalt
sanctify them, that
they may be most holy:
whatsoever toucheth
them shall be holy.
You are to
consecrate them so that
they will be most holy. Whatever touches
them shall be holy.
And thou shalt
anoint Aaron and his sons, and
consecrate them, that
they may minister unto me in
the priest’s office.
And thou shalt speak unto
the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy
anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.
And you are to tell
the Israelites, ‘This will be My sacred
anointing oil for
the generations to come.
Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
It must not be used to
anoint an ordinary man, and you must not make anything like it with
the same formula. It is holy, and it must be holy to you.
And
the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto
thee sweet spices,
stacte, and
onycha, and
galbanum;
these sweet spices with pure
frankincense: of each shall
there be a like weight:
And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee: it shall be unto you most holy.
Grind some of it into fine powder and place it in front of
the Testimony in
the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
And as for
the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to
yourselves according to
the composition
thereof: it shall be unto
thee holy for
the LORD.
You are never to use this formula to make incense for
yourselves; you shall regard it as holy to
the LORD.
Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell
thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.
Anyone who makes something like it to enjoy its
fragrance shall be cut off from his people.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
See, I have called by name Bezaleel
the son of
Uri,
the son of Hur, of
the tribe of Judah:
“See, I have called by name Bezalel son of
Uri,
the son of Hur, of
the tribe of Judah.
And I have filled him with
the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of
workmanship,
And I have filled him with
the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of
craftsmanship,
And in cutting of stones, to set
them, and in
carving of timber, to work in all manner of
workmanship.
to cut gemstones for settings, and to
carve wood, so that he may be a master of every craft.
And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab,
the son of Ahisamach, of
the tribe of
Dan: and in
the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that
they may make all that I have commanded
thee;
Moreover, I have selected Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of
the tribe of
Dan, as his assistant. I have also given skill to all
the craftsmen, that
they may fashion all that I have commanded you:
The tabernacle of
the congregation, and
the ark of
the testimony, and
the mercy seat that is
thereupon, and all
the furniture of
the tabernacle,
the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat upon it, and all the other furnishings of the tent—
And
the table and his furniture, and
the pure
candlestick with all his furniture, and
the altar of incense,
the table with its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense,
And
the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and
the laver and his foot,
the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand—
And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office,
as well as
the woven garments, both
the holy garments for Aaron
the priest and
the garments for his sons to serve as priests,
And
the anointing oil, and sweet incense for
the holy place: according to all that I have commanded
thee shall
they do.
in addition to
the anointing oil and
fragrant incense for
the Holy Place.
They are to make
them according to all that I have commanded you.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
And the LORD said to Moses,
Speak thou also unto
the children of Israel, saying,
Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am
the LORD that
doth sanctify you.
“Tell the Israelites, ‘Surely you must keep My Sabbaths, for this will be a sign between Me and you for the generations to come, so that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
Ye shall keep
the sabbath
therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for
whosoever doeth any work
therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Keep
the Sabbath, for it is holy to you.
Anyone who profanes it must surely be put to death.
Whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from among his people.
Six days may work be done; but in
the seventh is
the sabbath of rest, holy to
the LORD:
whosoever doeth any work in
the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
For six days work may be done, but
the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to
the LORD.
Whoever does any work on
the Sabbath day must surely be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
The Israelites must keep
the Sabbath,
celebrating it as a permanent covenant for
the generations to come.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
It is a sign between Me and
the Israelites
forever; for in six days
the LORD made
the heavens and
the earth, but on
the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount
Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with
the finger of God.
When
the LORD had finished speaking with Moses on Mount
Sinai, He gave him
the two tablets of
the Testimony, tablets of stone inscribed by
the finger of God.
And when
the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of
the mount,
the people gathered
themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses,
the man that brought us up out of
the land of Egypt, we
wot not what is become of him.
Now when the people saw that Moses was delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!”
And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
So Aaron told them, “Take off the gold earrings that are on your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”
And all
the people
brake off
the golden earrings which were in
their ears, and brought
them unto Aaron.
Then all the people took off their gold earrings and brought them to Aaron.
And he received
them at
their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a
molten calf: and
they said,
These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought
thee up out of
the land of Egypt.
He took
the gold from
their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a
molten calf. And
they said, “
These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of
the land of Egypt!”
And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made
proclamation, and said, To
morrow is a feast to
the LORD.
When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before
the calf and proclaimed: “
Tomorrow shall be a feast to
the LORD.”
And
they rose up early on
the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and
the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
So
the next day
they arose, offered burnt offerings, and presented peace offerings. And
the people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to
indulge in
revelry.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
They have turned aside quickly out of
the way which I commanded
them:
they have made
them a
molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed
thereunto, and said,
These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought
thee up out of
the land of Egypt.
How quickly
they have turned aside from
the way that I commanded
them!
They have made for
themselves a
molten calf and have bowed down to it.
They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘
These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of
the land of Egypt.’”
And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
The LORD also said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people.
Now
therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against
them, and that I may
consume them: and I will make of
thee a great nation.
Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against
them and
consume them.
Then I will make you into a great nation.”
And Moses
besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why
doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of
the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
Wherefore should
the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring
them out, to
slay them in
the mountains, and to
consume them from
the face of
the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and
repent of this evil against thy people.
Why should
the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought
them out with evil intent, to kill
them in
the mountains and
wipe them from
the face of
the earth’? Turn from Your fierce anger and relent from doing
harm to Your people.
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto
them, I will multiply your seed as
the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and
they shall
inherit it for ever.
Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom You
swore by Your very self when You declared, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as
the stars in
the sky, and I will give your descendants all this land that I have promised, and it shall be
their inheritance
forever.’”
And
the LORD
repented of
the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
So
the LORD relented from
the calamity He had threatened to bring on His people.
And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back.
And
the tables were
the work of God, and
the writing was
the writing of God,
graven upon
the tables.
The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
And when Joshua heard
the noise of
the people as
they shouted, he said unto Moses,
There is a noise of war in
the camp.
When Joshua heard
the sound of
the people
shouting, he said to Moses, “
The sound of war is in
the camp.”
And he said, It is not
the voice of
them that
shout for
mastery, neither is it
the voice of
them that cry for being overcome: but
the noise of
them that sing do I hear.
But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
And it came to pass, as soon as he came
nigh unto
the camp, that he saw
the calf, and
the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast
the tables out of his hands, and
brake them beneath
the mount.
As Moses approached
the camp and saw
the calf and
the dancing, he burned with anger and threw
the tablets out of his hands,
shattering them at
the base of
the mountain.
And he took
the calf which
they had made, and burnt it in
the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon
the water, and made
the children of Israel drink of it.
Then he took
the calf they had made, burned it in
the fire, ground it to powder, and scattered
the powder over
the face of
the water.
Then he forced
the Israelites to drink it.
And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
“What did this people do to you,” Moses asked Aaron, “that you have led them into so great a sin?”
And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.
“Do not be
enraged, my lord,” Aaron replied. “You
yourself know that
the people are intent on evil.
For
they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses,
the man that brought us up out of
the land of Egypt, we
wot not what is become of him.
They told me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!’
And I said unto
them,
Whosoever hath any gold, let
them break it off. So
they gave it me:
then I cast it into
the fire, and
there came out this
calf.
So I said to
them, ‘
Whoever has gold, let him take it off,’ and
they gave it to me. And when I threw it into
the fire, out came this
calf!”
And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
Moses saw that
the people were out of control, for Aaron had let
them run wild and become a
laughingstock to
their enemies.
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
So Moses stood at
the entrance to
the camp and said, “
Whoever is for
the LORD, come to me.” And all
the Levites gathered around him.
And he said unto
them, Thus saith
the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout
the camp, and
slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
He told
them, “This is what
the LORD,
the God of Israel, says: ‘Each of you men is to
fasten his sword to his side, go back and forth through
the camp from gate to gate, and
slay his brother, his friend, and his
neighbor.’”
And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people fell dead.
For Moses had said,
Consecrate yourselves to day to
the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may
bestow upon you a blessing this day.
Afterward, Moses said, “
Today you have been ordained for service to
the LORD, since each man went against his son and his brother; so
the LORD has bestowed a blessing on you this day.”
And it came to pass on
the morrow, that Moses said unto
the people, Ye have
sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto
the LORD;
peradventure I shall make an
atonement for your sin.
The next day Moses said to
the people, “You have committed a great sin. Now I will go up to
the LORD; perhaps I can make
atonement for your sin.”
And Moses returned unto
the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have
sinned a great sin, and have made
them gods of gold.
So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made gods of gold for themselves.
Yet now, if thou
wilt forgive their sin—; and if not,
blot me, I pray
thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Yet now, if You would only
forgive their sin.... But if not, please
blot me out of
the book that You have written.”
And
the LORD said unto Moses,
Whosoever hath
sinned against me, him will I
blot out of my book.
The LORD replied to Moses, “
Whoever has
sinned against Me, I will
blot out of My book.
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Now go, lead
the people to
the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you. But on
the day I settle accounts, I will
punish them for
their sin.”
And
the LORD plagued
the people, because
they made
the calf, which Aaron made.
And
the LORD sent a plague on
the people because of what
they had done with
the calf that Aaron had made.
And
the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and
the people which thou hast brought up out of
the land of Egypt, unto
the land which I
sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of the land of Egypt, and go to the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’
And I will send an angel before
thee; and I will drive out
the Canaanite,
the Amorite, and
the Hittite, and
the Perizzite,
the Hivite, and
the Jebusite:
Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in
the midst of
thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I
consume thee in
the way.
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
And when
the people heard
these evil
tidings,
they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.
For
the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto
the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into
the midst of
thee in a moment, and
consume thee:
therefore now put off thy ornaments from
thee, that I may know what to do unto
thee.
For
the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell
the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your
jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
And
the children of Israel
stripped themselves of
their ornaments by
the mount
Horeb.
And Moses took
the tabernacle, and pitched it without
the camp,
afar off from
the camp, and called it
the Tabernacle of
the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought
the LORD went out unto
the tabernacle of
the congregation, which was without
the camp.
Now Moses used to take
the tent and pitch it at a distance outside
the camp. He called it
the Tent of Meeting, and
anyone inquiring of
the LORD would go to
the Tent of Meeting outside
the camp.
And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
Then, whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would stand at the entrances to their own tents and watch Moses until he entered the tent.
And it came to pass, as Moses entered into
the tabernacle,
the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at
the door of
the tabernacle, and
the LORD talked with Moses.
As Moses entered
the tent,
the pillar of cloud would come down and remain at
the entrance, and
the LORD would speak with Moses.
And all
the people saw
the cloudy pillar stand at
the tabernacle door: and all
the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
When all
the people saw
the pillar of cloud standing at
the entrance to
the tent,
they would stand up and worship, each one at
the entrance to his own tent.
And
the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into
the camp: but his servant Joshua,
the son of
Nun, a young man, departed not out of
the tabernacle.
Thus
the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.
Then Moses would return to
the camp, but his young assistant Joshua son of
Nun would not leave
the tent.
And Moses said unto
the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou
wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know
thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
Then Moses said to the LORD, “Look, You have been telling me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor in My sight.’
Now
therefore, I pray
thee, if I have found grace in thy sight,
shew me now thy way, that I may know
thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.”
And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
And the LORD answered, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
For how then can it be known that Your people and I have found favor in Your sight, unless You go with us? How else will we be distinguished from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
So the LORD said to Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor in My sight, and I know you by name.”
Then Moses said, “Please show me Your glory.”
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before
thee, and I will
proclaim the name of
the LORD before
thee; and will be
gracious to whom I will be
gracious, and will
shew mercy on whom I will
shew mercy.
“I will cause all My goodness to pass before you,”
the LORD replied, “and I will
proclaim My name—
the LORD—in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I have
compassion.”
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
But He added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.”
