And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:
them also I must bring, and
they shall hear my voice; and
there shall be one fold, and one
shepherd.
I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring
them in as well, and
they will
listen to My voice.
Then there will be one flock and one
shepherd.
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
The reason the Father loves Me is that I lay down My life in order to take it up again.
There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.
Again there was division among the Jews because of Jesus’ message.
And many of
them said, He hath a devil, and is
mad; why hear ye him?
Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
But others replied, “
These are not
the words of a man possessed by a
demon. Can a
demon open
the eyes of
the blind?”
And it was at Jerusalem
the feast of
the dedication, and it was winter.
At that time
the Feast of
Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,
And Jesus walked in
the temple in Solomon’s
porch.
and Jesus was walking in
the temple courts in Solomon’s
Colonnade.
Then came
the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long
dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be
the Christ, tell us plainly.
So
the Jews gathered around Him and demanded, “How long will You keep us in
suspense? If You are
the Christ, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
“I already told you,” Jesus replied, “but you did not believe.
The works I do in My Father’s name
testify on My behalf.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
My sheep
listen to My voice; I know
them, and
they follow Me.
And I give unto
them eternal life; and
they shall never perish, neither shall any man
pluck them out of my hand.
I give
them eternal life, and
they will never perish. No one can
snatch them out of My hand.
My Father, which gave
them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to
pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
My Father who has given
them to Me is greater than all. No one can
snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
I and my Father are one.
I and the Father are one.”
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
At this,
the Jews again
picked up stones to stone Him.
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
But Jesus
responded, “I have shown you many good works from
the Father. For which of
these do you stone Me?”
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone
thee not; but for
blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest
thyself God.
“We are not stoning You for any good work,” said
the Jews, “but for
blasphemy, because You, who are a man, declare
Yourself to be God.”
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
Jesus replied, “Is it not written in your Law: ‘I have said you are gods’?
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
Say ye of him, whom
the Father hath
sanctified, and sent into
the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am
the Son of God?
then what about
the One whom
the Father
sanctified and sent into
the world? How
then can you
accuse Me of
blasphemy for stating that I am
the Son of God?
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me.
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.”
Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
At this,
they tried again to seize Him, but He escaped
their grasp.
And went away again beyond Jordan into
the place where John at first
baptized; and
there he abode.
Then Jesus went back across
the Jordan to
the place where John had first been
baptizing, and He stayed
there.
And many believed on him there.
And many in that place believed in Jesus.
At this time a man named
Lazarus was sick. He lived in
Bethany,
the village of Mary and her sister
Martha.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one You love is sick.”
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for
the glory of God, that
the Son of God might be
glorified thereby.
When Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for
the glory of God, so that
the Son of God may be
glorified through it.”
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
So on hearing that
Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was for two days,
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
and
then He said to
the disciples, “Let us go back to
Judea.”
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
“
Rabbi,”
they replied, “
the Jews just tried to stone You, and You are going back
there?”
Jesus answered, Are
there not twelve hours in
the day? If any man walk in
the day, he stumbleth not, because he
seeth the light of this world.
Jesus answered, “Are
there not twelve hours of
daylight? If
anyone walks in
the daytime, he will not
stumble, because he sees by
the light of this world.
But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
But if
anyone walks at night, he will
stumble, because he has no light.”
These things said he: and after that he saith unto
them, Our friend
Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may
awake him out of sleep.
After He had said this, He told
them, “Our friend
Lazarus has fallen
asleep, but I am going
there to
wake him up.”
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
His disciples replied, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get better.”
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but
they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
They thought that Jesus was talking about actual sleep, but He was speaking about
the death of
Lazarus.
Then said Jesus unto
them plainly,
Lazarus is dead.
So Jesus told
them plainly, “
Lazarus is dead,
And I am
glad for your sakes that I was not
there, to
the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
and for your sake I am
glad I was not
there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
Then said Thomas, which is called
Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
Then Thomas called
Didymus said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had
lain in
the grave four days already.
When Jesus arrived, He found that
Lazarus had already spent four days in
the tomb.
And many of
the Jews came to
Martha and Mary, to comfort
them concerning
their brother.
and many of
the Jews had come to
Martha and Mary to
console them in
the loss of
their brother.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in
the house.
So when
Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet Him; but Mary stayed at home.
Then said
Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
But I know, that even now,
whatsoever thou
wilt ask of God, God will give it
thee.
But even now I know that God will give You whatever You ask of Him.”
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in
the resurrection at
the last day.
Martha replied, “I know that he will rise again in
the resurrection at
the last day.”
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Jesus said to her, “I am
the resurrection and
the life.
Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.
She saith unto him,
Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art
the Christ,
the Son of God, which should come into
the world.
“
Yes, Lord,” she answered, “I believe that You are
the Christ,
the Son of God, who was to come into
the world.”
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
After
Martha had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside to tell her, “
The Teacher is here and is asking for you.”
Now Jesus was not yet come into
the town, but was in that place where
Martha met him.
Now Jesus had not yet entered
the village, but was still at
the place where
Martha had met Him.
The Jews
then which were with her in
the house, and comforted her, when
they saw Mary, that she rose up
hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto
the grave to
weep there.
When
the Jews who were in
the house
consoling Mary saw how quickly she got up and went out,
they followed her, supposing she was going to
the tomb to
mourn there.
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
When Mary came to Jesus and saw Him, she fell at His feet and said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”
When Jesus
therefore saw her
weeping, and
the Jews also
weeping which came with her, he
groaned in
the spirit, and was troubled,
When Jesus saw her
weeping, and
the Jews who had come with her also
weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
“Where have you put him?” He asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they answered.
Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
But some of
them asked, “Could not this man who opened
the eyes of
the blind also have kept
Lazarus from dying?”
Jesus
therefore again
groaning in himself cometh to
the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Jesus, once again deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
Jesus said, Take ye away
the stone.
Martha,
the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
“Take away
the stone,” Jesus said. “Lord, by now he stinks,” said
Martha,
the sister of
the dead man. “It has already been four days.”
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Jesus replied, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”
Then they took away
the stone from
the place where
the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I
thank thee that thou hast heard me.
So
they took away
the stone.
Then Jesus lifted His eyes upward and said, “Father, I
thank You that You have heard Me.
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
I knew that You always hear Me, but I say this for the benefit of the people standing here, so they may believe that You sent Me.”
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with
graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a
napkin. Jesus saith unto
them, Loose him, and let him go.
The man who had been dead came out with his hands and feet bound in strips of linen, and his face
wrapped in a cloth. “
Unwrap him and let him go,” Jesus told
them.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in Him.
But some of
them went
their ways to
the Pharisees, and told
them what things Jesus had done.
But some of
them went to
the Pharisees and told
them what Jesus had done.
Then gathered
the chief priests and
the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
If we let Him go on like this,
everyone will believe in Him, and
then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
And one of
them, named
Caiaphas, being
the high priest that same year, said unto
them, Ye know nothing at all,
But one of
them, named
Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to
them, “You know nothing at all!
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
You do not
realize that it is better for you that one man die for
the people than that
the whole nation perish.”
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he
prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
Caiaphas did not say this on his own. Instead, as high priest that year, he was
prophesying that Jesus would die for
the nation,
And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
and not only for the nation, but also for the scattered children of God, to gather them together into one.
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
So from that day on
they plotted to kill Him.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
As a result, Jesus no longer went about publicly among the Jews, but He withdrew to a town called Ephraim in an area near the wilderness. And He stayed there with the disciples.
And
the Jews’
passover was
nigh at hand: and many went out of
the country up to Jerusalem before
the passover, to
purify themselves.
Now
the Jewish
Passover was near, and many people went up from
the country to Jerusalem to
purify themselves before
the Passover.
Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
They kept looking for Jesus and asking one another as they stood in the temple courts, “What do you think? Will He come to the feast at all?”
Now both
the chief priests and
the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should
shew it, that
they might take him.
But
the chief priests and
Pharisees had given orders that
anyone who knew where He was must report it, so that
they could arrest Him.
Then Jesus six days before
the passover came to
Bethany, where
Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from
the dead.
Six days before
the Passover, Jesus came to
Bethany,
the hometown of
Lazarus, whom He had raised from
the dead.
There they made him a
supper; and
Martha served: but
Lazarus was one of
them that sat at
the table with him.
Why was not this
ointment sold for three hundred
pence, and given to
the poor?
“Why wasn’t this
perfume sold for three hundred
denarii and
the money given to
the poor?”
This he said, not that he cared for
the poor; but because he was a
thief, and had
the bag, and bare what was put
therein.
Judas did not say this because he cared about
the poor, but because he was a
thief. As keeper of
the money
bag, he used to take from what was put into it.
Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against
the day of my
burying hath she kept this.
“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “She has kept this
perfume in preparation for
the day of My burial.
For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.”
Much people of
the Jews
therefore knew that he was
there: and
they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that
they might see
Lazarus also, whom he had raised from
the dead.
Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews learned that Jesus was
there. And
they came not only because of Him, but also to see
Lazarus, whom He had raised from
the dead.
But
the chief priests consulted that
they might put
Lazarus also to death;
So
the chief priests made plans to kill
Lazarus as well,
Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
for on account of him many of the Jews were deserting them and believing in Jesus.
On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
The next day the great crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and
cried,
Hosanna: Blessed is
the King of Israel that cometh in
the name of
the Lord.
They took palm branches and went out to meet Him,
shouting: “
Hosanna!” “Blessed is He who comes in
the name of
the Lord!” “Blessed is
the King of Israel!”
And Jesus, when he had found a young
ass, sat
thereon; as it is written,
Finding a young
donkey, Jesus sat on it, as it is written:
Fear not, daughter of
Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an
ass’s
colt.
“Do not be afraid, O Daughter of
Zion. See, your King is coming, seated on
the colt of a
donkey.”
These things understood not his disciples at
the first: but when Jesus was
glorified,
then remembered
they that
these things were written of him, and that
they had done
these things unto him.
At first His disciples did not understand
these things, but after Jesus was
glorified they remembered what had been done to Him, and
they realized that
these very things had also been written about Him.
The people
therefore that was with him when he called
Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from
the dead, bare record.
Meanwhile, many people continued to
testify that
they had been with Jesus when He called
Lazarus from
the tomb and raised him from
the dead.
For this cause
the people also met him, for that
they heard that he had done this
miracle.
That is also why the crowd went out to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.
The Pharisees therefore said among
themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold,
the world is gone after him.
Then the Pharisees said to one another, “You can see that this is doing you no good. Look how
the whole world has gone after Him!”
And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
The same came
therefore to Philip, which was of
Bethsaida of
Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
They came to Philip, who was from
Bethsaida in
Galilee, and requested of him, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”
Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
Philip relayed this appeal to Andrew, and both of them went and told Jesus.
And Jesus answered
them, saying,
The hour is come, that
the Son of man should be
glorified.
But Jesus replied, “
The hour has come for
the Son of Man to be
glorified.
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into
the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a
kernel of wheat falls to
the ground and dies, it remains only a seed; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
If
anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, My servant will be as well. If
anyone serves Me,
the Father will honor him.
Father,
glorify thy name.
Then came
there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both
glorified it, and will
glorify it again.
