Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to
them that believe, but to
them that believe not: but
prophesying serveth not for
them that believe not, but for
them which believe.
Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers.
If
therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and
there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will
they not say that ye are
mad?
So if
the whole church comes together and
everyone speaks in tongues, and some who are
uninstructed or some unbelievers come in, will
they not say that you are out of your minds?
But if all
prophesy, and
there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is
convinced of all, he is judged of all:
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
and
the secrets of his heart will be made known. So he will fall facedown and worship God,
proclaiming, “God is truly among you!”
How is it
then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a
psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto
edifying.
What
then shall we say, brothers? When you come together,
everyone has a
psalm or a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. All of
these must be done to build up
the church.
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at
the most by three, and that by course; and let one
interpret.
If
anyone speaks in a tongue, two, or at most three, should speak in turn, and someone must
interpret.
But if
there be no
interpreter, let him keep silence in
the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
But if
there is no
interpreter, he should remain silent in
the church and speak only to himself and God.
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Two or three prophets should speak, and
the others should
weigh carefully what is said.
If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
And if a revelation comes to someone who is seated, the first speaker should stop.
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
The spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace—as in all the churches of the saints.
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
Women are to be silent in the churches. They are not permitted to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
If they wish to inquire about something, they are to ask their own husbands at home; for it is dishonorable for a woman to speak in the church.
What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
Did
the word of God
originate with you? Or are you
the only ones it has reached?
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
If
anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, let him acknowledge that what I am writing you is
the Lord’s command.
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm.
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
And that he was seen of
Cephas,
then of
the twelve:
and that He appeared to
Cephas and
then to
the Twelve.
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom
the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen
asleep.
After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen
asleep.
After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
For I am
the least of
the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I
persecuted the church of God.
For I am
the least of
the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I
persecuted the church of God.
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
Therefore whether it were I or
they, so we
preach, and so ye believed.
Whether,
then, it was I or
they, this is what we
preach, and this is what you believed.
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith.
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have
testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that
the dead rise not.
In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have
testified about God that He raised Christ from
the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact
the dead are not raised.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised.
Then they also which are fallen
asleep in Christ are perished.
Then those also who have fallen
asleep in Christ have perished.
But now is Christ risen from
the dead, and become
the firstfruits of
them that
slept.
But Christ has indeed been raised from
the dead,
the firstfruits of those who have fallen
asleep.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
For “God has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that everything has been put under Him, this clearly does not include the One who put everything under Him.
And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.
Else what shall
they do which are
baptized for
the dead, if
the dead rise not at all? why are
they then baptized for
the dead?
If
these things are not so, what will those do who are
baptized for
the dead? If
the dead are not raised at all, why are people
baptized for
them?
If after
the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if
the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to
morrow we die.
If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for human motives, what did I gain? If
the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for
tomorrow we die.”
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not
the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
Sober up as you ought, and stop
sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.
But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”
And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
And what you
sow is not
the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or something else.
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
There are also
celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but
the glory of
the celestial is one, and
the glory of
the terrestrial is another.
There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But
the splendor of
the heavenly bodies is of one degree, and
the splendor of
the earthly bodies is of another.
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
The sun has one degree of
splendor,
the moon another, and
the stars another; and star differs from star in
splendor.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable.
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
And so it is written,
The first man Adam was made a living soul;
the last Adam was made a
quickening spirit.
So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being;” the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and then the spiritual.
The first man is of
the earth,
earthy:
the second man is
the Lord from heaven.
The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.
As is
the earthy, such are
they also that are
earthy: and as is
the heavenly, such are
they also that are heavenly.
As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.
And as we have borne
the image of
the earthy, we shall also bear
the image of
the heavenly.
And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom of God; neither
doth corruption
inherit incorruption.
Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom of God, nor does
the perishable
inherit the imperishable.
In a moment, in
the twinkling of an eye, at
the last
trump: for
the trumpet shall sound, and
the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
in an instant, in
the twinkling of an eye, at
the last
trumpet. For
the trumpet will sound,
the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this
mortal must put on immortality.
For
the perishable must be clothed with
the imperishable, and
the mortal with immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass
the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
When
the perishable has been clothed with
the imperishable and
the mortal with immortality,
then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.”
The sting of death is sin; and
the strength of sin is
the law.
The sting of death is sin, and
the power of sin is
the law.
But
thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
But
thanks be to God, who gives us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye
stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in
the work of
the Lord,
forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in
the Lord.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be
steadfast and immovable. Always
excel in
the work of
the Lord, because you know that your labor in
the Lord is not in vain.
Now concerning
the collection for
the saints, as I have given order to
the churches of
Galatia, even so do ye.
Now about
the collection for
the saints, you are to do as I directed
the churches of
Galatia:
Upon
the first day of
the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath
prospered him, that
there be no gatherings when I come.
On the first day of every week, each of you should set aside a portion of his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will be needed.
Then, on my arrival, I will send letters with those you
recommend to carry your gift to Jerusalem.
And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
And if it is
advisable for me to go also,
they can travel with me.
And it may be that I will
abide,
yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey
whithersoever I go.
Perhaps I will stay with you
awhile, or even
spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go.
For I will not see you now by
the way; but I trust to
tarry a while with you, if
the Lord permit.
For I do not want to see you now only in passing; I hope to
spend some time with you, if
the Lord permits.
because a great door for effective work has opened to me, even though many
oppose me.
Now if
Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh
the work of
the Lord, as I also do.
If
Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is doing
the work of
the Lord, just as I am.
Let no man
therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with
the brethren.
No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he can return to me, for I am expecting him along with the brothers.
As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.
Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was not at all inclined to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.
Watch ye, stand fast in
the faith,
quit you like men, be strong.
Be on
the alert. Stand firm in
the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.
I
beseech you, brethren, (ye know
the house of Stephanas, that it is
the firstfruits of
Achaia, and that
they have
addicted themselves to
the ministry of
the saints,)
You know that Stephanas and his household were
the first converts in
Achaia, and
they have devoted
themselves to
the service of
the saints. Now I
urge you, brothers,
That ye submit
yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
to submit to such as these, and to every fellow worker and laborer.
I am
glad of
the coming of Stephanas and
Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part
they have supplied.
I am
glad that Stephanas,
Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived, because
they have supplied what was lacking from you.
For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
For
they refreshed my spirit and yours as well. Show your
appreciation,
therefore, to such men.
The churches in
the province of Asia send you greetings.
Aquila and Prisca
greet you warmly in
the Lord, and so does
the church that meets at
their house.
All
the brothers here send you greetings.
Greet one another with a holy
kiss.
If
anyone does not love
the Lord, let him be under a
curse. Come, O Lord!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by
the will of God, and
Timothy our brother, unto
the church of God which is at Corinth, with all
the saints which are in all
Achaia:
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by
the will of God, and
Timothy our brother, To
the church of God in Corinth, together with all
the saints throughout
Achaia:
Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be God, even
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of
mercies, and
the God of all comfort;
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of
compassion and
the God of all comfort,
Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation, that we may be able to comfort
them which are in any trouble, by
the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
For as
the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our
consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
If we are
afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which accomplishes in you patient
endurance of
the same sufferings we experience.
And our hope of you is
stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of
the sufferings, so shall ye be also of
the consolation.
And our hope for you is sure, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you will share in our comfort.
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength,
insomuch that we
despaired even of life:
We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of
the hardships we
encountered in
the province of Asia. We were under a burden far beyond our ability to
endure, so that we
despaired even of life.
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Indeed, we felt we were under the sentence of death, in order that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead.
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for
the gift bestowed upon us by
the means of many persons
thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
as you help us by your prayers.
Then many will give
thanks on our behalf for
the favor shown us in answer to
their prayers.
For our
rejoicing is this,
the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly
sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by
the grace of God, we have had our conversation in
the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
And this is our
boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in
the world, and especially in relation to you, in
the holiness and
sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in
the grace of God.
For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;
For we do not write you anything that is beyond your ability to read and understand. And I hope that you will understand us completely,
As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your
rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in
the day of
the Lord Jesus.
as you have already understood us in part, so that you may
boast of us just as we will
boast of you in
the day of our Lord Jesus.
And to pass by you into
Macedonia, and to come again out of
Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
I wanted to visit you on my way to
Macedonia, and to return to you from
Macedonia, and
then to have you help me on my way to
Judea.
When I
therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or
the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to
the flesh, that with me
there should be
yea yea, and
nay nay?
When I
planned this, did I do it
carelessly? Or do I make my plans by human standards, so as to say “
Yes,
yes” when I really mean “No, no”?
For
the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and
Silvanus and
Timotheus, was not
yea and
nay, but in him was
yea.
For
the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed among you by me and
Silvanus and
Timothy, was not “
Yes” and “No,” but in Him it has always been “
Yes.”
For all
the promises of God in him are
yea, and in him
Amen, unto
the glory of God by us.
For all
the promises of God are “
Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, our “
Amen” is spoken to
the glory of God.
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a
pledge of what is to come.
For if I make you
sorry, who is he
then that maketh me
glad, but
the same which is made
sorry by me?
And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from
them of whom I ought to
rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is
the joy of you all.
I wrote as I did so that on my arrival I would not be
saddened by those who ought to make me
rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would share my joy.
