Redeeming the time, because
the days are evil.
redeeming the time, because
the days are evil.
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Therefore do not be
foolish, but understand what
the Lord’s will is.
And be not
drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with
the Spirit;
Speaking to
yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making
melody in your heart to
the Lord;
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,
Giving
thanks always for all things unto God and
the Father in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
always giving
thanks to God
the Father for everything in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives, submit
yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto
the Lord.
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
For
the husband is
the head of
the wife as Christ is
the head of
the church, His body, of which He is
the Savior.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her
That he might
sanctify and
cleanse it with
the washing of water by
the word,
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
For no man ever yet
hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as
the Lord
the church:
Indeed, no one ever
hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does
the church.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
This is a great
mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and
the church.
This
mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and
the church.
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
“Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise),
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
“that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.”
Fathers, do not
provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring
them up in
the discipline and instruction of
the Lord.
Servants, be
obedient to
them that are your masters according to
the flesh, with fear and
trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and
sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
Not with
eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as
the servants of Christ, doing
the will of God from
the heart;
And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
Serve with good will, as to the Lord and not to men,
Knowing that
whatsoever good thing any man doeth,
the same shall he receive of
the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
And, ye masters, do
the same things unto
them,
forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is
there respect of persons with him.
And masters, do
the same for your slaves. Give up your use of threats, because you know that He who is both
their Master and yours is in heaven, and
there is no
favoritism with Him.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Put on
the full
armor of God, so that you can make your stand against
the devil’s schemes.
For we
wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of
the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Wherefore take unto you
the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in
the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Therefore take up
the full
armor of God, so that when
the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.
Stand
therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having on
the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet
shod with
the preparation of
the gospel of peace;
and with your feet fitted with
the readiness of
the gospel of peace.
Above all, taking
the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to
quench all
the fiery darts of
the wicked.
In addition to all this, take up
the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all
the flaming arrows of
the evil one.
And take
the helmet of salvation, and
the sword of
the Spirit, which is
the word of God:
And take
the helmet of salvation and
the sword of
the Spirit, which is
the word of God.
Pray in
the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay
alert with all
perseverance in your prayers for all
the saints.
And for me, that
utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known
the mystery of
the gospel,
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known
the mystery of
the gospel,
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may
proclaim it
fearlessly, as I should.
But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do,
Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in
the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
Tychicus,
the beloved brother and faithful servant in
the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know about me and what I am doing.
Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about us, and that he may
encourage your hearts.
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace to the brothers and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all
them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in
sincerity.
Amen.
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
Paul and
Timotheus,
the servants of Jesus Christ, to all
the saints in Christ Jesus which are at
Philippi, with
the bishops and deacons:
Paul and
Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all
the saints in Christ Jesus at
Philippi, together with
the overseers and deacons:
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
For your
fellowship in
the gospel from
the first day until now;
because of your
partnership in
the gospel from
the first day until now,
Being
confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until
the day of Jesus Christ:
being
confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until
the day of Christ Jesus.
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in
the defence and
confirmation of
the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. For in my chains and in my
defense and
confirmation of
the gospel, you are all partners in grace with me.
For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in
the bowels of Jesus Christ.
God is my witness how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
That ye may
approve things that are excellent; that ye may be
sincere and without offence till
the day of Christ;
so that you may be able to test and prove what is best and may be pure and
blameless for
the day of Christ,
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
But I would ye should understand, brethren, that
the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto
the furtherance of
the gospel;
Now I want you to know, brothers, that my circumstances have actually served to advance the gospel.
So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
As a result, it has become clear throughout
the whole palace guard and to
everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
And many of
the brethren in
the Lord, waxing
confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak
the word without fear.
And most of
the brothers,
confident in
the Lord by my chains, now
dare more greatly to speak
the word without fear.
The latter do so in love, knowing that I am appointed for
the defense of
the gospel.
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
The former, however,
preach Christ out of
selfish ambition, not
sincerely, supposing that
they can add to
the distress of my chains.
What
then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in
pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I
therein do
rejoice,
yea, and will
rejoice.
What
then is
the issue? Just this: that in every way, whether by false motives or true, Christ is preached. And in this I
rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to
rejoice,
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
because I know that through your prayers and
the provision of
the Spirit of Jesus Christ, my distress will turn out for my
deliverance.
But if I live in
the flesh, this is
the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I
wot not.
But if I go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. So what shall I choose? I do not know.
For I am in a strait
betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
I am
torn between
the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed.
Nevertheless to
abide in
the flesh is more needful for you.
But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
And having this confidence, I know that I shall
abide and continue with you all for your
furtherance and joy of faith;
Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in
the faith,
Only let your conversation be as it becometh
the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for
the faith of
the gospel;
Nevertheless, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of
the gospel of Christ.
Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit,
contending side by side for
the faith of
the gospel,
without being
frightened in any way by those who
oppose you. This is a clear sign of
their destruction but of your salvation, and it is from God.
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
since you are
encountering the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any
fellowship with
the Spirit, if any affection and
compassion,
Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having
the same love, being of one
accord, of one mind.
then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Who, being in
the form of God, thought it not
robbery to be equal with God:
Who, existing in
the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be
grasped,
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
but
emptied Himself, taking
the form of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became
obedient unto death, even
the death of
the cross.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became
obedient to death— even death on a cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Therefore God
exalted Him to
the highest place and gave Him
the name above all names,
That at
the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under
the earth;
that at
the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under
the earth,
And that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to
the glory of God
the Father.
and every tongue
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to
the glory of God
the Father.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and
trembling.
Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and
trembling.
so that you may be
blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a
crooked and
perverse generation, in which you
shine as lights in
the world
Holding forth
the word of life; that I may
rejoice in
the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
as you hold forth
the word of life, in order that I may
boast on
the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
Yea, and if I be offered upon
the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and
rejoice with you all.
But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on
the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am
glad and
rejoice with all of you.
For
the same cause also do ye joy, and
rejoice with me.
But I trust in
the Lord Jesus to send
Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
Now I hope in
the Lord Jesus to send
Timothy to you soon, that I also may be
cheered when I learn how you are doing.
For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.
For all the others look after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
But you know
Timothy’s
proven worth, that as a child with his father he has served with me to advance
the gospel.
Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
So I hope to send him as soon as I see what happens with me.
But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
And I trust in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
I sent him
therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may
rejoice, and that I may be
the less sorrowful.
Therefore I am all
the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may
rejoice, and I may be less anxious.
Receive him
therefore in
the Lord with all
gladness; and hold such in reputation:
Welcome him in
the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him,
Because for
the work of Christ he was
nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
because he nearly died for
the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for your
deficit of service to me.
Finally, my brethren,
rejoice in
the Lord. To write
the same things to you, to me indeed is not
grievous, but for you it is safe.
Finally, my brothers,
rejoice in
the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write
the same things to you again, and it is a
safeguard for you.
Watch out for those dogs, those workers of evil, those mutilators of the flesh!
For we are
the circumcision, which worship God in
the spirit, and
rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in
the flesh.
For it is we who are
the circumcision, we who worship by
the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in
the flesh—
Though I might also have confidence in
the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath
whereof he might trust in
the flesh, I more:
though I myself could have such confidence. If
anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in
the flesh, I have more:
Circumcised the eighth day, of
the stock of Israel, of
the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of
the Hebrews; as touching
the law, a
Pharisee;
circumcised on
the eighth day, of
the people of Israel, of
the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to
the law, a
Pharisee;
as to zeal,
persecuting the church; as to righteousness in
the law, faultless.
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ.
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for
the excellency of
the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered
the loss of all things, and do count
them but dung, that I may
win Christ,
More than that, I count all things as loss compared to
the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider
them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith.
That I may know him, and
the power of his resurrection, and
the fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death;
I want to know Christ and
the power of His resurrection and
the fellowship of His sufferings, being
conformed to Him in His death,
If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
and so,
somehow, to attain to
the resurrection from
the dead.
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
I press on toward
the goal to
win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.
Let us
therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall
reveal even this unto you.
All of us who are
mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will
reveal this to you as well.
Nevertheless,
whereto we have already attained, let us walk by
the same rule, let us mind
the same thing.
Nevertheless, we must live up to what we have already attained.
