Luke,
the beloved physician, and Demas,
greet you.
Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas send you greetings.
Salute the brethren which are in
Laodicea, and Nymphas, and
the church which is in his house.
And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in
the church of
the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read
the epistle from
Laodicea.
After this letter has been read among you, make sure that it is also read in
the church of
the Laodiceans, and that you in turn read
the letter from
Laodicea.
And say to Archippus, Take
heed to
the ministry which thou hast received in
the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”
The salutation by
the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you.
Amen.
This
greeting is in my own hand—Paul. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.
Paul, and
Silvanus, and
Timotheus, unto
the church of
the Thessalonians which is in God
the Father and in
the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and
patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in
the sight of God and our Father;
and continually recalling before our God and Father your work of faith, your labor of love, and your
enduring hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake.
And ye became followers of us, and of
the Lord, having received
the word in much
affliction, with joy of
the Holy Ghost:
And you became imitators of us and of
the Lord when you
welcomed the message with
the joy of
the Holy Spirit, in spite of your great suffering.
As a result, you have become an example to all
the believers in
Macedonia and
Achaia.
For from you sounded out
the word of
the Lord not only in
Macedonia and
Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
For not only did
the message of
the Lord ring out from you to
Macedonia and
Achaia, but your faith in God has gone out to every place, so that we have no need to say anything more.
For
they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve
the living and true God;
For
they themselves report what kind of
welcome you gave us, and how you turned to God from idols to serve
the living and true God
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
and to
await His Son from heaven, whom He raised from
the dead—Jesus our deliverer from
the coming wrath.
As you are aware, we had already
endured suffering and shameful treatment in
Philippi. But in
the face of strong opposition, we were bold in our God to speak to you
the gospel of God.
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
Instead, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, not in order to please men but God, who examines our hearts.
Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been
burdensome, as
the apostles of Christ.
Nor did we seek praise from you or from
anyone else, although as apostles of Christ we had authority to demand it.
But we were gentle among you, even as a
nurse cherisheth her children:
On
the contrary, we were gentle among you, like a
nursing mother caring for her children.
So being
affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not
the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were
dear unto us.
We cared so deeply that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our own lives as well. That is how beloved you have become to us.
For ye remember, brethren, our labour and
travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you
the gospel of God.
Surely you recall, brothers, our labor and
toil. We worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to
anyone while we proclaimed to you
the gospel of God.
For this cause also
thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received
the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as
the word of men, but as it is in truth,
the word of God, which
effectually worketh also in you that believe.
And we continually
thank God because, when you received
the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as
the word of men, but as
the true word of God—
the word which is now at work in you who believe.
For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
For you, brothers, became imitators of
the churches of God in
Judea that are in Christ Jesus. You suffered from your own countrymen
the very things
they suffered from
the Jews,
Who both killed
the Lord Jesus, and
their own prophets, and have
persecuted us; and
they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out as well. They are displeasing to God and hostile to all men,
Forbidding us to speak to
the Gentiles that
they might be saved, to fill up
their sins
alway: for
the wrath is come upon
them to
the uttermost.
hindering us from telling
the Gentiles how
they may be saved. As a result,
they continue to
heap up
their sins to full capacity;
the utmost wrath has come upon
them.
But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
Brothers, although we were
torn away from you for a short time (in person, not in heart), our desire to see you face to face was even more intense.
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of
rejoicing? Are not even ye in
the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
After all, who is our hope, our joy, our crown of
boasting, if it is not you
yourselves in
the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?
And sent
Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in
the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
That no man should be moved by
these afflictions: for
yourselves know that we are appointed
thereunto.
so that none of you would be
shaken by
these trials. For you know that we are destined for this.
For this cause, when I could no longer
forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means
the tempter have
tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that
the tempter had
somehow tempted you and caused our labor to be in vain.
But now when
Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good
tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good
remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
But just now,
Timothy has returned from his visit with
the good news about your faith, your love, and
the fond
memories you have preserved, longing to see us just as we long to see you.
Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our
affliction and distress by your faith:
For this reason, brothers, in all our distress and persecution, we have been
reassured about you, because of your faith.
For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
For now we can go on living, as long as you are standing firm in the Lord.
For what
thanks can we render to God again for you, for all
the joy
wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
How can we adequately
thank God for you in return for our great joy over you in His presence?
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
And may
the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and for
everyone else, just as our love for you overflows,
To
the end he may
stablish your hearts unblameable in
holiness before God, even our Father, at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
so that He may establish your hearts in
blamelessness and
holiness before our God and Father at
the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.
Amen.
Furthermore then we
beseech you, brethren, and
exhort you by
the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
Finally, brothers, we ask and
encourage you in
the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all
the more.
For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
For you know the instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must
abstain from sexual immorality;
not in
lustful passion like
the Gentiles who do not know God;
and no one should ever
violate or
exploit his brother in this regard, because
the Lord will
avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly
warned you.
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
Anyone,
then, who rejects this command does not
reject man but God,
the very One who gives you His Holy Spirit.
And indeed ye do it toward all
the brethren which are in all
Macedonia: but we
beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
And you are indeed showing this love to all
the brothers throughout
Macedonia. But we
urge you, brothers, to
excel more and more
That ye may walk
honestly toward
them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
Then you will
behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on
anyone.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning
them which are
asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not
grieve like
the rest, who are without hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen
asleep in Him.
For this we say unto you by
the word of
the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto
the coming of
the Lord shall not prevent
them which are
asleep.
By
the word of
the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until
the coming of
the Lord will by no means
precede those who have fallen
asleep.
For
the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with
the voice of
the archangel, and with
the trump of God: and
the dead in Christ shall rise first:
For
the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with
the voice of an
archangel, and with
the trumpet of God, and
the dead in Christ will be
the first to rise.
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Therefore encourage one another with
these words.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.
For
yourselves know perfectly that
the day of
the Lord so cometh as a
thief in
the night.
For you are fully aware that
the Day of
the Lord will come like a
thief in
the night.
For when
they shall say, Peace and safety;
then sudden destruction cometh upon
them, as
travail upon a woman with child; and
they shall not escape.
While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon
them suddenly, like labor pains on a
pregnant woman, and
they will not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a
thief.
But you, brothers, are not in
the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a
thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be
sober.
So
then, let us not sleep as
the others do, but let us remain
awake and
sober.
For
they that sleep sleep in
the night; and
they that be
drunken are
drunken in
the night.
For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get
drunk, get
drunk at night.
But let us, who are of
the day, be
sober, putting on
the breastplate of faith and love; and for an
helmet,
the hope of salvation.
But since we belong to
the day, let us be
sober, putting on
the breastplate of faith and love, and
the helmet of our hope of salvation.
Wherefore comfort
yourselves together, and
edify one another, even as also ye do.
Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.
And we
beseech you, brethren, to know
them which labour among you, and are over you in
the Lord, and
admonish you;
But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work
diligently among you, who preside over you in
the Lord and give you instruction.
And to esteem
them very highly in love for
their work’s sake. And be at peace among
yourselves.
In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
Now we
exhort you, brethren,
warn them that are
unruly, comfort
the feebleminded, support
the weak, be patient toward all men.
In every thing give
thanks: for this is
the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Give
thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
And
the very God of peace
sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved
blameless unto
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now may
the God of peace Himself
sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept
blameless at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.
I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are bound to
thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and
the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
We are
obligated to
thank God for you all
the time, brothers, as is fitting, because your faith is growing more and more, and your love for one another is increasing.
So that we ourselves glory in you in
the churches of God for your
patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye
endure:
Which is a manifest
token of
the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of
the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
and to grant relief to you who are
oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when
the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels
In flaming fire taking
vengeance on
them that know not God, and that obey not
the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from
the presence of
the Lord, and from
the glory of his power;
They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might,
When he shall come to be
glorified in his saints, and to be
admired in all
them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
on
the day He comes to be
glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
To this end, we always pray for you, that our God will count you worthy of His calling, and that He will powerfully
fulfill your every good desire and work of faith,
That
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be
glorified in you, and ye in him, according to
the grace of our God and
the Lord Jesus Christ.
so that
the name of our Lord Jesus will be
glorified in you, and you in Him, according to
the grace of our God and of
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now we
beseech you, brethren, by
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
That ye be not soon
shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that
the day of Christ is at hand.
not to be easily
disconcerted or
alarmed by any spirit or message or letter seeming to be from us,
alleging that
the Day of
the Lord has already come.
Let no man
deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except
there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed,
the son of
perdition;
Let no one
deceive you in any way, for it will not come until
the rebellion occurs and
the man of
lawlessness—
the son of destruction—is revealed.
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in
the temple of God,
shewing himself that he is God.
He will
oppose and
exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in
the temple of God,
proclaiming himself to be God.
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
Do you not remember that I told you these things while I was still with you?
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
For
the mystery of iniquity
doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of
the way.
For
the mystery of
lawlessness is already at work, but
the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of
the way.
And
then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom
the Lord shall
consume with
the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with
the brightness of his coming:
And
then the lawless one will be revealed, whom
the Lord Jesus will
slay with
the breath of His mouth and
annihilate by
the majesty of His arrival.
Even him, whose coming is after
the working of
Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
The coming of
the lawless one will be accompanied by
the working of
Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder,
And with all
deceivableness of unrighteousness in
them that perish; because
they received not
the love of
the truth, that
they might be saved.
and with every wicked
deception directed against those who are perishing, because
they refused
the love of
the truth that would have saved
them.
And for this cause God shall send
them strong
delusion, that
they should believe a lie:
For this reason God will send
them a powerful
delusion so that
they believe
the lie,
That
they all might be
damned who believed not
the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
But we are bound to give
thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of
the Lord, because God hath from
the beginning chosen you to salvation through
sanctification of
the Spirit and belief of
the truth:
But we should always
thank God for you, brothers who are loved by
the Lord, because God has chosen you from
the beginning to be saved by
the sanctification of
the Spirit and by faith in
the truth.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to
the obtaining of
the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
To this He called you through our gospel, so that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Therefore, brothers, stand firm and
cling to
the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that
the word of
the Lord may have free course, and be
glorified, even as it is with you:
Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.
And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not
everyone holds to
the faith.
But
the Lord is faithful, who shall
stablish you, and keep you from evil.
But
the Lord is faithful, and He will
strengthen you and guard you from
the evil one.
And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.
And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.
And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
May
the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s
perseverance.
Now we command you, brethren, in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw
yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after
the tradition which he received of us.
Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.
