But
Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy
maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
“Here,” said
Abram, “your servant is in your hands. Do whatever you
want with her.” Then Sarai treated
Hagar so harshly that she fled from her.
And Jacob said unto
Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

want to sleep with her.”
And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And
Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes.
But Leah replied, “Is it not enough that you have taken away my husband? Now you
want to take my son’s mandrakes as well?” “Very well,” said
Rachel, “he may sleep with you
tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.”
And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye
bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and

Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my sons. Joseph is gone and
Simeon is no more. Now you
want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”
And when a stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day, and
seethe that ye will
seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So
bake what you
want to
bake, and
boil what you
want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.’”
And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children; I do not want to go free,’
And if a stranger shall
sojourn among you, and will keep the
passover unto the LORD; according to the
ordinance of the
passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one
ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.
If a foreigner dwelling among you
wants to observe the
Passover to the LORD, he is to do so according to the
Passover statute and its ordinances. You are to apply the same statute to both the foreigner and the native of the land.’”
And if a stranger
sojourn with you, or
whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as ye do, so he shall do.
And for the generations to come, if a foreigner residing with you or someone else among you
wants to prepare an offering made by fire as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, he is to do exactly as you do.
And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:
Then the Gadites and Reubenites approached Moses and said, “We
want to build sheepfolds here for our
livestock and cities for our little ones.
Notwithstanding thou mayest kill and eat flesh in all thy gates,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the
roebuck, and as of the
hart.
But whenever you
want, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your gates, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you. Both the
ceremonially clean and unclean may eat it as they would a
gazelle or deer,
When the LORD thy God shall
enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
When the LORD your God expands your territory as He has promised, and you
crave meat and say, “I
want to eat meat,” you may eat it whenever you
want.
If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy
herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
If the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His Name is too far from you, then you may slaughter any of the
herd or flock He has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may eat it within your gates whenever you
want.
But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely
lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he
wanteth.
Instead, you are to open your hand to him and freely
loan him whatever he needs.
And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;
But if your servant says to you, ‘I do not want to leave you,’ because he loves you and your household and is well off with you,
And seest among the
captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;
if you see a beautiful woman among them, and you desire her and want to take her as your wife,
And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.
But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, she is to go to the elders at the city gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel. He is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law for me.”
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
Then the elders of his city shall
summon him and speak with him. If he persists and says, “I do not
want to marry her,”
Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in
thirst, and in nakedness, and in
want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
you will serve your enemies the LORD will send against you in famine,
thirst, nakedness, and
destitution. He will place an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.
And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for
want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness,
wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
the
afterbirth that comes from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you within your gates.
But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that
Samson visited his wife with a
kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Later on, at the time of the wheat harvest,
Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. “I
want to go to my wife in her room,” he said. But her father would not let him enter.
When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
When you enter, you will come to an
unsuspecting people and a
spacious land, for God has delivered it into your hand. It is a place where nothing on earth is lacking.”
Yet there is both straw and
provender for our
asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy
handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no
want of any thing.
even though there is both straw and feed for our
donkeys, and bread and wine for me and the
maidservant and young man with me. There is nothing that we, your servants, lack.”
And the old man said, Peace be with thee;
howsoever let all thy
wants lie upon me; only
lodge not in the street.
“Peace to you,” said the old man. “Let me supply everything you need. Only do not
spend the night in the square.”
Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a
kinsman, well; let him do the
kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a
kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a
kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
Stay here
tonight, and in the morning, if he
wants to
redeem you, good. Let him
redeem you. But if he does not
want to
redeem you, as surely as the LORD lives, I will. Now lie here until morning.”
And I thought to
advertise thee, saying,
Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou
wilt redeem it,
redeem it: but if thou
wilt not
redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to
redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will
redeem it.
I thought I should inform you that you may
buy it back in the presence of those seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you
want to
redeem it, do so. But if you will not
redeem it, tell me so I may know, because there is no one but you to
redeem it, and I am next after you.” “I will
redeem it,” he replied.
And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him,
Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
And if any man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you may take whatever you want,” the servant would reply, “No, you must give it to me right now. If you refuse, I will take it by force!”
And David fled from Naioth in
Ramah, and came and said before
Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
Then David fled from Naioth in
Ramah. He came to
Jonathan and asked, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? How have I
sinned against your father, that he
wants to take my life?”
And the priest said, The sword of
Goliath the
Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here
wrapped in a cloth behind the
ephod: if thou
wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.
The priest replied, “The sword of
Goliath the
Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is
wrapped in a cloth behind the
ephod. If you
want, you may take it. For there is no other but this one.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
And
Absalom answered
Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come
hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.
“Look,” said
Absalom, “I sent for you and said, ‘Come here. I
want to send you to the king to ask: Why have I come back from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.’ So now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.”
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok, however,
persisted and said to
Joab, “Regardless of whatever may happen, please let me also run behind the
Cushite!” “My son,”
Joab replied, “why do you
want to run, since you will not receive a reward?”
But
howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then
Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
“No matter what, I
want to run!” he replied. “Then run!”
Joab told him. So
Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the
Cushite.
And
Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many
soever they be, an
hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why
doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
But
Joab replied to the king, “May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king
want to do such a thing?”
So
Hiram gave Solomon
cedar trees and
fir trees according to all his desire.
Then Pharaoh said unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing:
howbeit let me go in any wise.
But Pharaoh asked him, “What have you lacked here with me that you suddenly
want to go back to your own country?” “Nothing,”
Hadad replied, “but please let me go.”
Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of
Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be
wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to
Baal;
whosoever shall be
wanting, he shall not live. But
Jehu did it in
subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of
Baal.
Now, therefore,
summon to me all the prophets of
Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. See that no one is missing, for I have a great sacrifice for
Baal.
Whoever is missing will not live.” But
Jehu was acting
deceptively in order to destroy the servants of
Baal.
And
Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord
want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
And let this
apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may
array the man
withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on
horseback through the street of the city, and
proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
Let the
robe and the horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them
array the man the king
wants to honor and
parade him on the horse through the city square,
proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man whom the king is delighted to honor!’”
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
Drenched by mountain rains, they
huddle against the rocks for
want of shelter.
For
want and famine they were solitary;
fleeing into the wilderness in former time
desolate and waste.
If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
if I have seen one perish for lack of clothing, or a
needy man without a
cloak,
Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be
swallowed up.
Should He be told that I
want to speak? Would a man ask to be
swallowed up?
The LORD is my
shepherd; I shall not
want.
The LORD is my
shepherd; I shall not
want.
O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Young lions go lacking and
hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Let them not say in their hearts,
Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have
swallowed him up.
Let them not say in their hearts, “
Aha, just what we
wanted!” Let them not say, “We have
swallowed him up!”
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
I am in favor of peace; but when I speak, they want war.
But ye have set at
nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
and poverty will come upon you like a
robber, and need like a
bandit.
Whoso is simple, let him turn in
hither: as for him that
wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
“
Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
Whoso is simple, let him turn in
hither: and as for him that
wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
“
Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of judgment.
Much food is in the
tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for
want of judgment.
Abundant food is in the
fallow ground of the poor, but without justice it is swept away.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the
belly of the wicked shall
want.
A righteous man eats to his heart’s content, but the stomach of the wicked is empty.
In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
A large population is a king’s
splendor, but a lack of subjects is a prince’s ruin.
All the brethren of the poor do
hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are
wanting to him.
All the brothers of a poor man
hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with
pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
and poverty will come upon you like a
robber, and need like a
bandit.
That which is
crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is
wanting cannot be numbered.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
Why should ye be
stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart
faint.
Why do you
want more beatings? Why do you keep rebelling? Your head has a massive wound, and your whole heart is
afflicted.
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall
want her
mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
Search and read the
scroll of the LORD: Not one of these will go missing, not one will lack her
mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.
And when thou art
spoiled, what
wilt thou do? Though thou clothest
thyself with
crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make
thyself fair; thy lovers will
despise thee, they will seek thy life.
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
In fact, I will hand you over to those you
dread, who
want to take your life—to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the Chaldeans.
Is this man Coniah a
despised broken
idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Is this man Coniah a
despised and
shattered pot, a
jar that no one
wants? Why are he and his descendants
hurled out and cast into a land they do not know?
For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
For this is what the LORD says: David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
Neither shall the priests the Levites
want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to
kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.
nor will the priests who are Levites ever fail to have a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to present sacrifices.”
But ye turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they
wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
But from the time we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been perishing by sword and famine.”
If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some
gleaning grapes? if
thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.
If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings? Were
thieves to come in the night, would they not
steal only what they
wanted?
They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away,
stricken through for
want of the fruits of the field.
Those slain by the sword are better off than those who die of hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.
That they may
want bread and water, and be
astonied one with another, and
consume away for their iniquity.
So they will lack food and water; they will be
appalled at the sight of one another wasting away in their iniquity.
TEKEL; Thou art
weighed in the balances, and art found
wanting.
TEKEL means that you have been
weighed on the scales and found deficient.
Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was
diverse from all the others, exceeding
dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his
nails of brass; which
devoured,
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
Then I
wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others—extremely
terrifying—
devouring and
crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, then
trampling underfoot whatever was left.
And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more
stout than his fellows.
I also
wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn whose appearance was more imposing than the others, with eyes and with a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I
beset all your cities with cleanness of teeth and all your towns with lack of bread, yet you did not return to Me,” declares the LORD.
If
thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have
stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
“If
thieves came to you, if robbers by night— oh, how you will be ruined— would they not
steal only what they
wanted? If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings?
And if any man will
sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy
cloke also.
if someone
wants to
sue you and take your
tunic, let him have your
cloak as well;
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would
borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who
wants to
borrow from you.
And, behold, they
cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come
hither to
torment us before the time?
“What do You
want with us, Son of God?” they
shouted. “Have You come here to
torture us before the appointed time?”
Then certain of the
scribes and of the
Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Then some of the
scribes and
Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we
want to see a sign from You.”
While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to Him.
Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
Someone told Him, “Look, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You.”
He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him,
Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
Although Herod wanted to kill John, he was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a prophet.
Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have
compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they
faint in the way.
Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I have
compassion for this crowd, because they have already been with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not
want to send them away
hungry, or they may
faint along the way.”
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Then Jesus told His disciples, “If
anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
For
whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and
whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
For
whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but
whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven
likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
Because of this, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou
wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
“Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
Jesus said unto him, If thou
wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Jesus told him, “If you
want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Take your pay and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave you.
And he said unto her, What
wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
“What do you want?” He inquired. She answered, “Declare that in Your kingdom one of these two sons of mine may sit at Your right hand, and the other at Your left.”
But it shall not be so among you: but
whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
It shall not be this way among you. Instead,
whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
