And they journeyed from mount
Hor by the
way of the Red sea, to compass the land of
Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the
way.
Then they set out from Mount
Hor along the route to the Red Sea, in order to bypass the land of
Edom. But the people grew impatient on the journey
Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
“Let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway until we have passed through your territory.”
And they turned and went up by the
way of
Bashan: and
Og the king of
Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
Then they turned and went up the road to
Bashan, and
Og king of
Bashan and his whole army came out to meet them in battle at Edrei.
And God’s anger was
kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the
way for an
adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his
ass, and his two servants were with him.
Then God’s anger was
kindled because
Balaam was going along, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to
oppose him.
Balaam was riding his
donkey, and his two servants were with him.
And the
ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the
way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the
ass turned aside out of the
way, and went into the field: and
Balaam smote the
ass, to turn her into the
way.
When the
donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into a field. So
Balaam beat her to return her to the path.
And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
And the angel of the LORD moved on
ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn to the right or left.
And the
ass said unto
Balaam, Am not I thine
ass, upon which thou hast
ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever
wont to do so unto thee? And he said,
Nay.
But the
donkey said to
Balaam, “Am I not the
donkey you have
ridden all your life until
today? Have I ever treated you this
way before?” “No,” he replied.
Then the LORD opened the eyes of
Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the
way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
Then the LORD opened
Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. And
Balaam bowed low and fell facedown.
And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou
smitten thine
ass these three times? behold, I went out to
withstand thee, because thy
way is
perverse before me:
The angel of the LORD asked him, “Why have you beaten your
donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to
oppose you, because your
way is
perverse before me.
And
Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have
sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the
way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
“I have
sinned,”
Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, “for I did not
realize that you were standing in the road to
confront me. And now, if this is displeasing in your sight, I will go back home.”
And
Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his
way.
Then
Balaam arose and returned to his homeland, and Balak also went on his
way.
But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.
But if he nullifies them after he hears of them, then he will bear her iniquity.”
(There are eleven days’ journey from
Horeb by the
way of mount
Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.)
It is an eleven-day journey from
Horeb to Kadesh-barnea by
way of Mount
Seir.
And when we departed from
Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the
way of the mountain of the
Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
And just as the LORD our God had commanded us, we set out from
Horeb and went toward the hill country of the
Amorites, through all the vast and
terrifying wilderness you have seen. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
Then all of you approached me and said, “Let us send men
ahead of us to search out the land and bring us word of what route to follow and which cities to enter.”
And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man
doth bear his son, in all the
way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
and in the wilderness, where the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you traveled until you reached this place.”
Who went in the
way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to
shew you by what
way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.
who went before you on the journey, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day, to seek out a place for you to camp and to show you the road to travel.
But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
But you are to turn back and head for the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.”
And the
Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and
chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in
Seir, even unto Hormah.
Then the
Amorites who lived in the hills came out against you and
chased you like a
swarm of bees. They routed you from
Seir all the
way to Hormah.
Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the
way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount
Seir many days.
Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by
way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had
instructed me, and for many days we
wandered around Mount
Seir.
And when we passed by from our brethren the children of
Esau, which dwelt in
Seir, through the
way of the plain from
Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and passed by the
way of the wilderness of Moab.
So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of
Esau, who live in
Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from
Elath and Ezion-
geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
Then we turned, and went up the
way to
Bashan: and
Og the king of
Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
Then we turned and went up the road to
Bashan, and
Og king of
Bashan and his whole army came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.
Ye shall walk in all the
ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may
prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
You must walk in all the
ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and
prosper and
prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
And thou shalt teach them
diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the
way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And you shall teach them
diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Remember that these forty years the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness, so that He might humble you and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commandments.
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, walking in His ways and fearing Him.
And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the
way which I commanded them; they have made them a
molten image.
And the LORD said to me, “Get up and go down from here at once, for your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned aside from the
way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a
molten image.”
And I looked, and, behold, ye had
sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a
molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the
way which the LORD had commanded you.
And I saw how you had
sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for
yourselves a
molten calf. You had turned aside quickly from the
way that the LORD had commanded you.
And now, Israel, what
doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his
ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
For if ye shall
diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his
ways, and to
cleave unto him;
For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—
And a
curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the
way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
but a
curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you
today by following other gods, which you have not known.
Are they not on the other side Jordan, by the
way where the sun goeth down, in the land of the
Canaanites, which dwell in the
champaign over against
Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?
Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the
sunset, in the land of the
Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite
Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh?
Ye shall not do so unto the LORD your God.
You shall not worship the LORD your God in this way.
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every
abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
You must not worship the LORD your God in this
way, because they practice for their gods every
abomination which the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondage, to thrust thee out of the
way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.
Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the
way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
But if the distance is too great for you to carry that with which the LORD your God has blessed you, because the place where the LORD your God will choose to put His Name is too far away,
Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy
maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
then take an
awl and
pierce it through his ear into the door, and he will become your servant for life. And treat your
maidservant the same
way.
But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses:
forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that
way.
But the king must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire more horses, for the LORD has said, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not
imitate the
detestable ways of the nations there.
Thou shalt prepare thee a
way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to
inherit, into three parts, that every
slayer may
flee thither.
You are to build roads for
yourselves and divide into three regions the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that any
manslayer can
flee to these cities.
Lest the
avenger of the blood pursue the
slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the
way is long, and
slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he
hated him not in time past.
Otherwise, the
avenger of blood might pursue the
manslayer in a
rage, overtake him if the distance is great, and strike him dead though he did not deserve to die, since he did not intend any
harm.
If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
and if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you
today, loving the LORD your God and walking in His
ways at all times, then you are to add three more cities to these three.
Thou shalt not see thy brother’s
ass or his ox fall down by the
way, and hide
thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.
If you see your brother’s
donkey or ox fallen on the road, you must not
ignore it; you must help him lift it up.
If a bird’s nest chance to be before thee in the
way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the
dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the
dam with the young:
If you come across a bird’s nest with chicks or eggs, either in a tree or on the ground along the road, and the mother is sitting on the chicks or eggs, you must not take the mother along with the young.
Because they met you not with bread and with water in the
way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they
hired against thee
Balaam the son of Beor of
Pethor of
Mesopotamia, to
curse thee.
For they did not meet you with food and water on your
way out of Egypt, and they
hired Balaam son of Beor from
Pethor in
Aram-naharaim to
curse you.
Remember what the LORD thy God did unto
Miriam by the
way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.
Remember what the LORD your God did to
Miriam on the journey after you came out of Egypt.
Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
Remember what the
Amalekites did to you along your
way from Egypt,
How he met thee by the
way, and
smote the
hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou
wast faint and
weary; and he feared not God.
how they met you on your journey when you were
tired and
weary, and they attacked all your stragglers; they had no fear of God.
Thou hast
avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his
ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to
hearken unto his voice:
Today you have proclaimed that the LORD is your God and that you will walk in His
ways, keep His statutes and commandments and ordinances, and
listen to His voice.
Cursed be he that maketh the blind to
wander out of the
way. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who lets a blind man
wander in the road.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be
smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one
way, and
flee before thee seven
ways.
The LORD will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you in one direction but
flee from you in seven.
The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath
sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his
ways.
The LORD will establish you as His holy people, just as He has
sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His
ways.
The LORD shall cause thee to be
smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one
way against them, and
flee seven
ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them in one direction but
flee from them in seven. You will be an object of
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
and at
noon you will
grope about like a blind man in the darkness. You will not
prosper in your
ways. Day after day you will be
oppressed and
plundered, with no one to save you.
And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the
way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for
bondmen and
bondwomen, and no man shall
buy you.
The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships by a route that I said you should never see again. There you will sell
yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will
buy you.”
(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
For you
yourselves know how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we passed through the nations on the
way here.
In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his
ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in the land
whither thou goest to possess it.
For I am commanding you
today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His
ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may
bless you in the land that you are entering to possess.
For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt
yourselves, and turn aside from the
way which I have commanded you; and evil will
befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
For I know that after my death you will become utterly corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. And in the days to come,
disaster will
befall you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD to
provoke Him to anger by the work of your hands.”
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
And the south, and the plain of the valley of
Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.
the Negev, and the region from the Valley of
Jericho (the City of Palms) all the
way to Zoar.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy
way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will
prosper and succeed in all you do.
And it came to pass about the time of
shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out:
whither the men went I
wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
At
dusk, when the gate was about to close, the men went out, and I do not know which
way they went. Pursue them quickly, and you may catch them!”
And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
So the king’s men set out in pursuit of the
spies along the road to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as they had gone out, the gate was shut.
And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide
yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your
way.
“Go to the hill country,” she said, “so that your pursuers will not find you. Hide
yourselves there for three days until they have returned; then go on your
way.”
And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
So the
spies went out into the hill country and stayed there three days, until their pursuers had returned without finding them, having searched all along the road.
Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the
way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this
way heretofore.
But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between
yourselves and the ark. Do not go near it, so that you can see the
way to go, since you have never traveled this
way before.”
And this is the cause why Joshua did
circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the
way, after they came out of Egypt.
Now this is why Joshua
circumcised them: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of war—had died on the journey in the wilderness after they had left Egypt.
Now all the people that came out were
circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the
way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not
circumcised.
Though all who had come out were
circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt had been
circumcised.
And Joshua raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones he
circumcised. Until this time they were still
uncircumcised, since they had not been
circumcised along the
way.
And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
Joshua and all Israel let themselves be beaten back before them, and they fled toward the wilderness.
And when the men of
Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to
flee this
way or that
way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
When the men of
Ai turned and looked back, the smoke of the city was rising into the sky. They could not escape in any direction, and the troops who had fled to the wilderness now became the pursuers.
And the LORD
discomfited them before Israel, and
slew them with a great slaughter at
Gibeon, and
chased them along the
way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and
smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
And the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great slaughter at
Gibeon, pursued them along the
ascent to Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who
smote them, and
chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-
maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they
smote them, until they left them none remaining.
and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who struck them down and pursued them all the
way to Greater
Sidon and Misrephoth-
maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of Mizpeh. They struck them down, leaving no survivors.
And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the
way to Beth-jeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdoth-
pisgah:
as well as the Arabah east of the Sea of Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea), eastward through Beth-jeshimoth, and southward below the slopes of
Pisgah.
But take
diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his
ways, and to keep his commandments, and to
cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: and they went unto their tents.
So Joshua blessed them and sent them on their way, and they went to their homes.
And the LORD your God, he shall
expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.
The LORD your God will
push them out of your
way and drive them out before you, so that you can take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
Now behold,
today I am going the
way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the
way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
And yet they would not
hearken unto their judges, but they went a
whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the
way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
Israel, however, did not
listen to their judges. Instead, they
prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them. They quickly turned from the
way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments; they did not do as their fathers had done.
And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their
stubborn way.
But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and
stubborn ways.
That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
In this way I will test whether Israel will keep the way of the LORD by walking in it as their fathers did.”
Speak, ye that
ride on white
asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the
way.
And
Gideon went up by the
way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and
smote the host: for the host was secure.
And
Gideon went up by
way of the
caravan route east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and he attacked their army, taking them by surprise.
Thus was
Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of
Gideon.
In this
way Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head again. So the land had rest for forty years in the days of
Gideon,
And the men of
Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they
robbed all that came along that
way by them: and it was told
Abimelech.
And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.
Then Gaal spoke up again, “Look, people are coming down from the center of the land, and one company is coming by way of the Diviners’ Oak.”
And
Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.
but
Abimelech pursued him, and Gaal fled before him. And many Shechemites fell wounded all the
way to the entrance of the gate.
Thus God rendered the wickedness of
Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in
slaying his seventy brethren:
In this
way God repaid the wickedness that
Abimelech had done to his father in murdering his seventy brothers.
And the king of the children of
Ammon answered unto the messengers of
Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from
Arnon even unto
Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again
peaceably.
The king of the
Ammonites answered
Jephthah’s messengers, “When Israel came up out of Egypt, they seized my land, from the

Jabbok and all the

peaceably.”
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

shave off the seven braids of his head. In this
way she began to
subdue him, and his strength left him.

Levite from
Bethlehem in Judah,” he replied, “and I am on my
way to settle wherever I can find a place.”
And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way wherein ye go.
And the priest told them, “Go in peace. The LORD is watching over your journey.”
And when they were a good
way from the house of
