That day,
after the Israelites had struck down the Philistines from
Michmash to
Aijalon, the people were very
faint.
And Saul said, Let us go down
after the Philistines by night, and
spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do
whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near
hither unto God.
And Saul said, “Let us go down
after the Philistines by night and
plunder them until
dawn, leaving no man alive!” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied. But the priest said, “We must
consult God here.”
And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down
after the Philistines?
wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
So Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?” But God did not answer him that day.
So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of
Ammon, and against
Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and
whithersoever he turned himself, he
vexed them.
After Saul had assumed the
kingship over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side—the Moabites, the
Ammonites, the Edomites, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he routed them.
So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD.
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
After the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, a spirit of distress from the LORD began to
torment him.
And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
The people told him about the offer, saying, “That is what will be done for the man who kills him.”
And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
Then he turned from him toward another and asked about the offer, and those people answered him just as the first ones had answered.
And I went out
after him, and
smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his
beard, and
smote him, and
slew him.
I went
after it, struck it down, and delivered the lamb from its mouth. If it reared up against me, I would
grab it by its fur, strike it down, and kill it.
And the children of Israel returned from
chasing after the Philistines, and they
spoiled their tents.
When the Israelites returned from their pursuit of the Philistines, they
plundered their camps.
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of
Jonathan was
knit with the soul of David, and
Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
After David had finished speaking with Saul, the souls of
Jonathan and David were
knit together, and
Jonathan loved him as himself.
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the
Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
As the troops were returning home
after David had killed the
Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with tambourines and other instruments.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass,
after they went forth, that David
behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
Every time the
Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty: and Saul said unto
Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of
Jesse to meat, neither
yesterday, nor to day?
But on the day
after the New Moon, the second day, David’s place was still empty, and Saul asked his son
Jonathan, “Why hasn’t the son of
Jesse come to the meal either
yesterday or
today?”
And one of the sons of
Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named
Abiathar, escaped, and fled
after David.
But one of the sons of
Ahimelech son of Ahitub escaped. His name was
Abiathar, and he fled to David.
And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
And David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God would not deliver David into his hand.
Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
and Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told about it, he went down to the rock and stayed in the Wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard of this, he pursued David there.
Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why that place is called Sela-hammahlekoth.
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
After Saul had returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, “David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.”
And it came to pass
afterward, that David’s heart
smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s
skirt.
Afterward, David’s conscience was
stricken because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s
robe.
David also arose
afterward, and went out of the cave, and
cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David
stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
After that, David got up, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed facedown in reverence
After whom is the king of Israel come out?
after whom
dost thou pursue?
after a dead dog,
after a
flea.
Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom are you pursuing? A dead dog? A
flea?
Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou
wilt not cut off my seed
after me, and that thou
wilt not destroy my name out of my father’s house.
So now,
swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or
wipe out my name from my father’s house.”
And David said unto his men,
Gird ye on every man his sword. And they
girded on every man his sword; and David also
girded on his sword: and there went up
after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
And David said to his men, “
Strap on your swords!” So David and all his men put on their swords, and about four hundred men followed David, while two hundred stayed with the supplies.
And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.
and said to her young men, “Go
ahead of me. I will be right behind you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.
And it came to pass about ten days
after, that the LORD
smote Nabal, that he died.
About ten days later, the LORD struck Nabal dead.
And
Abigail hasted, and arose, and
rode upon an
ass, with five damsels of hers that went
after her; and she went
after the messengers of David, and became his wife.
So
Abigail hurried and got on a
donkey, and attended by five of her maidens, she followed David’s messengers and became his wife.
And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
Saul camped beside the road at the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon, but David was living in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had followed him there,
And he said, Wherefore
doth my lord thus pursue
after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
And he continued, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?
And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue
after this
troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
and David inquired of the LORD: “Should I pursue these raiders? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” the LORD replied, “for you will surely overtake them and
rescue the
captives.”
And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines
slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchi-shua, Saul’s sons.
The Philistines followed hard
after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons
Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
Now it came to pass
after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the
Amalekites, and David had abode two days in
Ziklag;
After the death of Saul, David returned from the slaughter of the
Amalekites and stayed in
Ziklag two days.
And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount
Gilboa, behold, Saul
leaned upon his
spear; and, lo, the
chariots and
horsemen followed hard
after him.
“I happened to be on Mount
Gilboa,” he replied, “and there was Saul,
leaning on his
spear, with the
chariots and the cavalry closing in on him.
So I stood upon him, and
slew him, because I was sure that he could not live
after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the
bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them
hither unto my lord.
So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that
after he had fallen he could not
survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.”
And it came to pass
after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said,
Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto
Hebron.
Some time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To
Hebron,” replied the LORD.
And
Asahel pursued
after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following
Abner.
and he
chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.
Joab also and
Abishai pursued
after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of
Gibeon.
But
Joab and
Abishai pursued
Abner. By
sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of
Gibeon.
And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together
after Abner, and became one
troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
The Benjamites
rallied to
Abner, formed a single unit, and took their stand
atop a hill.
So
Joab blew a
trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued
after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
So
Joab blew the ram’s horn, and all the troops stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or continued to fight.
And when
Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers
after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.
As soon as
Joab had left David, he sent messengers
after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David was unaware of it.
And
afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of
Abner the son of
Ner:
Afterward, David heard about this and said, “I and my kingdom are
forever guiltless before the LORD concerning the blood of
Abner son of
Ner.
And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem,
after he was come from
Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
After he had arrived from
Hebron, David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.
And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
After the king had settled into his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him,
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed
after thee, which shall proceed out of thy
bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
And
after this it came to pass, that David
smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Metheg-ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
And it came to pass
after this, that the king of the children of
Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his
stead.
Some time later, the king of the
Ammonites died and was succeeded by his son Hanun.
And it came to pass,
after the year was
expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent
Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of
Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried still at Jerusalem.
In the spring, at the time when kings march out to war, David sent out
Joab and his servants with the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the
Ammonites and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem.
And David sent and enquired
after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-
sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
So David sent and inquired about the woman, and he was told, “This is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
And
Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and he became ill.
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and
encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called
after my name.
Now, therefore,
assemble the rest of the troops, lay siege to the city, and capture it. Otherwise I will capture the city, and it will be named
after me.”
And it came to pass
after this, that
Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
After some time, David’s son Amnon fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful sister of David’s son
Absalom.
And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son,
lean from day to day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning
after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.”
Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and
bolt the door
after her.
Instead, he called to his
attendant and said, “Throw this woman out and
bolt the door behind her!”
And she had a garment of
divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins
apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and
bolted the door
after her.
So Amnon’s
attendant threw her out and
bolted the door behind her. Now Tamar was wearing a
robe of many colors, because this is what the king’s virgin daughters
wore.
And it came to pass
after two full years, that
Absalom had sheepshearers in
Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and
Absalom invited all the king’s sons.
Two years later, when
Absalom’s sheepshearers were at
Baal-hazor near Ephraim, he invited all the sons of the king.
So
Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
After Absalom had fled and gone to Geshur, he stayed there three years.
And when he
polled his head, (for it was at every year’s end that he
polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he
polled it:) he
weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels
after the king’s weight.
And when he cut the hair of his head—he
shaved it every year because his hair got so heavy—he would
weigh it out to be two hundred shekels, according to the royal standard.
And it came to pass
after this, that
Absalom prepared him
chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
Some time later,
Absalom provided for himself a
chariot with horses and fifty men to run
ahead of him.
And it came to pass
after forty years, that
Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my
vow, which I have
vowed unto the LORD, in
Hebron.
After four years had passed,
Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go to
Hebron to
fulfill a
vow I have made to the LORD.
And there came a
messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are
after Absalom.
Then a
messenger came to David and reported, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with
Absalom.”
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
Then the king set out, and his entire household followed him. But he left behind ten concubines to take care of the palace.
And the king went forth, and all the people
after him, and
tarried in a place that was far off.
So the king set out with all the people following him. He stopped at the last house,
And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came
after him from
Gath, passed on before the king.
and all his servants marched past him—all the Cherethites and Pelethites, and six hundred Gittites who had followed him from
Gath.
Moreover
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue
after David this night:
And when Hushai was come to
Absalom,
Absalom spake unto him, saying,
Ahithophel hath spoken
after this manner: shall we do
after his saying? if not; speak thou.
So Hushai came to
Absalom, who told him, “
Ahithophel has spoken this proposal. Should we carry it out? If not, what do you say?”
And it came to pass,
after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath
Ahithophel counselled against you.
After the men had gone,
Ahimaaz and
Jonathan climbed up out of the well and went to inform King David, saying, “Get up and cross over the river at once, for
Ahithophel has given this advice against you.”
And
Joab blew the
trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing
after Israel: for
Joab held back the people.
Then
Joab blew the ram’s horn, and the troops broke off their pursuit of Israel because
Joab had restrained them.
Now
Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a
pillar, which is in the king’s
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he called the
pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day,
Absalom’s place.
During his lifetime,
Absalom had set up for himself a
pillar in the King’s Valley, for he had said, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the
pillar his name, and to this day it is called
Absalom’s Monument.
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok, however,
persisted and said to
Joab, “Regardless of whatever may happen, please let me also run behind the
Cushite!” “My son,”
Joab replied, “why do you want to run, since you will not receive a reward?”
So every man of Israel went up from
after David, and followed
Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah
clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.
So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow
Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
And David said to
Abishai, Now shall
Sheba the son of Bichri do us more
harm than did
Absalom: take thou thy lord’s servants, and pursue
after him, lest he get him
fenced cities, and escape us.
And David said to
Abishai, “Now
Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more
harm than
Absalom. Take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and
elude us.”
And there went out
after him
Joab’s men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue
after Sheba the son of Bichri.
So
Joab’s men, along with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, marched out of Jerusalem in pursuit of
Sheba son of Bichri.
But
Amasa took no
heed to the sword that was in
Joab’s hand: so he
smote him
therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his
bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So
Joab and
Abishai his brother pursued
after Sheba the son of Bichri.
And one of
Joab’s men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth
Joab, and he that is for David, let him go
after Joab.
When he was removed out of the
highway, all the people went on
after Joab, to pursue
after Sheba the son of Bichri.
As soon as
Amasa’s body was removed from the road, all the men went on with
Joab to pursue
Sheba son of Bichri.
And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto
Abel, and to Beth-maachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also
after him.
Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to
Abel-beth-
maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and followed him.
Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year
after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his
bloody house, because he
slew the Gibeonites.
During the reign of David there was a famine for three successive years, and David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, “It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family, because he killed the Gibeonites.”
And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of
Jonathan his son from the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, which had
stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had
hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in
Gilboa:
he went and took the bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan from the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, who had
stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hung the bodies
after they had struck down Saul at
Gilboa.
And the bones of Saul and
Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the
sepulchre of
Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And
after that God was intreated for the land.
And they buried the bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan in Zela in the land of Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul’s father
Kish.
After they had done everything the king had commanded, God answered their prayers for the land.
And it came to pass
after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at
Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite
slew Saph, which was of the sons of the
giant.
Some time later at
Gob, there was another battle with the Philistines. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha.
And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear
shining after rain.
And
after him was
Eleazar the son of
Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they
defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:
Next in command was
Eleazar son of
Dodo the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty men, he went with David to
taunt the Philistines who had gathered for battle at
Pas-dammim. The men of Israel retreated,
He arose, and
smote the Philistines until his hand was
weary, and his hand
clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned
after him only to
spoil.
but
Eleazar stood his ground and struck the Philistines until his hand grew
weary and
stuck to his sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. Then the troops returned to him, but only to
plunder the dead.
And
after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a
troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.
And after him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines had banded together near a field full of lentils, Israel’s troops fled from them.
And David’s heart
smote him
after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have
sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I
beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very
foolishly.
After David had numbered the troops, his conscience was
stricken and he said to the LORD, “I have
sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I
beg You to take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very
foolishly.”
And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him
after Absalom.
(His father had never once
reprimanded him by saying, “Why do you act this way?” Adonijah was also very handsome, born next
after Absalom.)
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him,
Didst not thou, my lord, O king,
swear unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign
after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then
doth Adonijah reign?
Go at once to King David and say, ‘My lord the king, did you not
swear to your
maidservant, “Surely your son Solomon will reign
after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in
after thee, and
confirm thy words.
Then, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in
after you and
confirm your words.”
And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign
after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
“My lord,” she replied, “you
yourself swore to your
maidservant by the LORD your God: ‘Surely your son Solomon will reign
after me, and he will sit on my throne.’
And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And as for you, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And
Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign
after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
“My lord the king,” said
Nathan, “did you say, ‘Adonijah will reign
after me, and he will sit on my throne’?
Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
Has my lord the king let this happen without informing your servant who should sit on the throne after my lord the king?”
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign
after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign
after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
Then ye shall come up
after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
And all the people came up
after him, and the people piped with pipes, and
rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
All the people followed him, playing flutes and
rejoicing with such a great joy that the earth was split by the sound.
Then
tidings came to
Joab: for
Joab had turned
after Adonijah, though he turned not
after Absalom. And
Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
When the news reached
Joab, who had
conspired with Adonijah but not with
Absalom, he fled to the tent of the LORD and took hold of the horns of the altar.
And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of
Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in
Gath.
After three years, however, two of Shimei’s slaves ran away to Achish son of
Maacah, king of
Gath. And Shimei was told, “Look, your slaves are in
Gath.”
