And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
So the
spies went out into the hill country and stayed there three days, until their pursuers had returned without finding them, having searched
all along the road.
So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of
Nun, and told him
all things that
befell them:
Then the two men started back, came down from the hill country, and crossed the river. So they came to Joshua son of
Nun and reported
all that had happened to them.
And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands
all the land; for even
all the inhabitants of the country do
faint because of us.
“The LORD has surely delivered the entire land into our hands,” they said to Joshua. “Indeed, all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of us.”
And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from
Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and
all the children of Israel, and
lodged there before they passed over.
Early the next morning Joshua got up and left
Shittim with
all the Israelites. They went as far as the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to
magnify thee in the sight of
all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
Now the LORD said to Joshua, “
Today I will begin to
exalt you in the sight of
all Israel, so they may know that I am with you just as I was with Moses.
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of
all the earth will go
ahead of you into the Jordan.
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of
all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an
heap.
When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of
all the earth—touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a
heap.”
And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were
dipped in the
brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth
all his banks
all the time of harvest,)
Now the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest season. But as soon as the priests carrying the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge,
And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed over the dry ground, until the entire nation had crossed the Jordan.
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until the people had completed everything the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell them, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people
hurried across,
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
and after
everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
On that day the LORD
magnified Joshua in the sight of
all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses,
all the days of his life.
On that day the LORD
exalted Joshua in the sight of
all Israel, and they
revered him
all the days of his life, just as they had
revered Moses.
And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God.”
And it came to pass, when
all the kings of the
Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and
all the kings of the
Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
Now when
all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and
all the
Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and their spirits failed for fear of the Israelites.
And this is the cause why Joshua did
circumcise:
All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even
all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
Now this is why Joshua
circumcised them:
All those who came out of Egypt—
all the men of war—had died on the journey in the wilderness after they had left Egypt.
Now
all the people that came out were
circumcised: but
all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not
circumcised.
Though
all who had come out were
circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt had been
circumcised.
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till
all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD
sware that he would not
shew them the land, which the LORD
sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
For the Israelites had
wandered in the wilderness forty years, until
all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD
vowed never to let them see the land He had
sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And it came to pass, when they had done
circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
And after
all the nation had been
circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were
healed.
And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.
And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the
trumpet,
all the people shall
shout with a great
shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall
ascend up every man straight before him.
And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have
all the people give a mighty
shout. Then the wall of the city will
collapse and
all your people will charge straight into the city.”
And the city shall be
accursed, even it, and
all that are therein, to the LORD: only
Rahab the
harlot shall live, she and
all that are with her in the house, because she
hid the messengers that we sent.
Now the city and everything in it must be devoted to the LORD for destruction. Only
Rahab the
prostitute and
all those with her in her house will live, because she
hid the
spies we sent.
But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
For all the silver and gold and all the articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they must go into His treasury.”
So the people
shouted when the priests
blew with the
trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the
trumpet, and the people
shouted with a great
shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people
shouted. When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great
shout, and the wall
collapsed. Then
all the people charged straight into the city and captured it.
And they utterly destroyed
all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and
ass, with the edge of the sword.
At the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, oxen, sheep, and
donkeys.
But Joshua had said unto the two men that had
spied out the country, Go into the
harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and
all that she hath, as ye
sware unto her.
Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had
spied out the land, “Go into the house of the
prostitute and bring out the woman and
all who are with her, just as you promised her.”
And the young men that were
spies went in, and brought
Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and
all that she had; and they brought out
all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
So the young
spies went in and brought out
Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and
all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.
And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
And Joshua saved
Rahab the
harlot alive, and her father’s household, and
all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she
hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to
spy out
Jericho.
And Joshua
spared Rahab the
prostitute, with her father’s household and
all who belonged to her, because she
hid the men Joshua had sent to
spy out
Jericho. So she has lived among the Israelites to this day.
So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not
all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and
smite Ai; and make not
all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
On returning to Joshua, they reported, “There is no need to send
all the people; two or three thousand men are enough to go up and attack
Ai. Since the people of
Ai are so few, you need not wear out
all our people there.”
And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the
eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
Then Joshua
tore his clothes and fell facedown before the ark of the LORD until evening, as did the elders of Israel; and they
all sprinkled dust on their heads.
And Joshua said,
Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at
all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
“O, Lord GOD,” Joshua said, “why did You ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites to be destroyed? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
For the
Canaanites and
all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall
environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what
wilt thou do unto thy great name?
When the
Canaanites and
all who live in the land hear about this, they will
surround us and
wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”
And it shall be, that he that is taken with the
accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and
all that he hath: because he hath
transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
The one who is caught with the things devoted to destruction must be burned, along with
all that belongs to him, because he has
transgressed the covenant of the LORD and committed an
outrage in Israel.’”
So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was
hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
So Joshua sent messengers who ran to the tent, and there it
all was, hidden in his tent, with the silver
underneath.
And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
They took the things from inside the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and spread them out before the LORD.
And Joshua, and
all Israel with him, took
Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the
wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his
asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and
all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of
Achor.
Then Joshua, together with
all Israel, took
Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the
cloak, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen and
donkeys and sheep, his tent, and everything else he owned, and brought them to the Valley of
Achor.
And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
“Why have you brought this trouble upon us?” said Joshua. “
Today the LORD will bring trouble upon you!” And
all Israel stoned him to death. Then they stoned the others and burned their bodies.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take
all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to
Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of
Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack
Ai. See, I have delivered into your hand the king of
Ai, his people, his city, and his land.
So Joshua arose, and
all the people of war, to go up against
Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
So Joshua and the whole army set out to attack
Ai. Joshua chose 30,000 mighty men of
valor and sent them out at night
And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
with these orders: “Pay attention. You are to lie in
ambush behind the city, not too far from it.
All of you must be ready.
And I, and
all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will
flee before them,
Then I and
all the troops with me will advance on the city. When they come out against us as they did the first time, we will
flee from them.
And
all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew
nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of
Ai: now there was a valley between them and
Ai.
Then
all the troops who were with him marched up and approached the city. They arrived in front of
Ai and camped to the north of it, with the valley between them and the city.
And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
So the forces were stationed with the main camp to the north of the city and the rear guard to the west of the city. And that night Joshua went into the valley.
And it came to pass, when the king of
Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and
all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he
wist not that there were liers in
ambush against him behind the city.
When the king of
Ai saw the Israelites, he
hurried out early in the morning with the men of the city to
engage them in battle at an appointed place overlooking the Arabah. But he did not know that an
ambush had been set up against him behind the city.
And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
Joshua and all Israel let themselves be beaten back before them, and they fled toward the wilderness.
And
all the people that were in
Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
Then
all the men of
Ai were summoned to pursue them, and they followed Joshua and were drawn away from the city.
And when Joshua and
all Israel saw that the
ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and
slew the men of
Ai.
When Joshua and
all Israel saw that the men in
ambush had captured the city and that smoke was rising from it, they turned around and struck down the men of
Ai.
And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of
slaying all the inhabitants of
Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they
chased them, and when they were
all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that
all the Israelites returned unto
Ai, and
smote it with the edge of the sword.
When Israel had finished killing
all the men of
Ai who had pursued them into the field and wilderness, and when every last one of them had fallen by the sword,
all the Israelites returned to
Ai and put it to the sword as well.
And so it was, that
all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even
all the men of
Ai.
A total of twelve thousand men and women fell that day—
all the people of
Ai.
For Joshua drew not his hand back,
wherewith he stretched out the
spear, until he had utterly destroyed
all the inhabitants of
Ai.
Joshua did not draw back the hand that held his battle
lance until he had devoted to destruction
all who lived in
Ai.
And
all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount
Gerizim, and half of them over against mount
Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should
bless the people of Israel.
All Israel, foreigners and citizens alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD facing the
Levitical priests who carried it. Half of the people stood in front of Mount
Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount
Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded earlier, to
bless the people of Israel.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
Afterward, Joshua read
aloud all the words of the law—the blessings and the curses—according to
all that is written in the Book of the Law.
There was not a word of
all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before
all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were
conversant among them.
There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua failed to read before the whole assembly of Israel, including the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who lived among them.
And it came to pass, when
all the kings which were on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in
all the coasts of the great sea over against
Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the
Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;
And old
shoes and
clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and
all the bread of their provision was dry and
mouldy.
And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
“Your servants have come from a very distant land,” they replied, “because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard the reports about Him: all that He did in Egypt,
Wherefore our elders and
all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take
victuals with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: therefore now make ye a league with us.
So the elders and inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions for your journey; go to meet them and say to them: We are your servants. Please make a treaty with us.’
And the children of Israel
smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had
sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel. And
all the congregation
murmured against the princes.
But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had
sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel. And the whole congregation grumbled against the leaders.
But
all the princes said unto
all the congregation, We have
sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them.
All the leaders answered, “We have
sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.
And the princes said unto them, Let them live; but let them be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation; as the princes had promised them.
They continued, “Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the whole congregation.” So the leaders kept their promise.
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you
all the land, and to destroy
all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you
all the land and
wipe out
all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
That they feared greatly, because
Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than
Ai, and
all the men thereof were mighty.
So Adoni-zedek and his people were greatly
alarmed, because
Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities; it was larger than
Ai, and
all its men were mighty.
Therefore the five kings of the
Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of
Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of
Lachish, the king of
Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and
all their hosts, and
encamped before
Gibeon, and made war against it.
So the five kings of the
Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem,
Hebron, Jarmuth,
Lachish, and
Eglon—joined forces and advanced with
all their armies. They camped before
Gibeon and made war against it.
And the men of
Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to
Gilgal, saying,
Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for
all the kings of the
Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
Then the men of
Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at
Gilgal: “Do not
abandon your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, because
all the kings of the
Amorites from the hill country have joined forces against us.”
So Joshua ascended from
Gilgal, he, and
all the people of war with him, and
all the mighty men of valour.
So Joshua and his whole army, including
all the mighty men of
valor, came from
Gilgal.
Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from
Gilgal all night.
After marching
all night from
Gilgal, Joshua caught them by surprise.
And Joshua returned, and
all Israel with him, unto the camp to
Gilgal.
Then Joshua returned with
all Israel to the camp at
Gilgal.
And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
The whole army returned safely to Joshua in the camp at Makkedah, and no one
dared to utter a word against the Israelites.
And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
When they had brought the kings to Joshua, he summoned all the men of Israel and said to the army commanders who had accompanied him, “Come here and put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So the commanders came forward and put their feet on their necks.
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua said. “Be strong and
courageous, for the LORD will do this to
all the enemies you fight.”
And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and
all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of
Jericho.
On that day Joshua captured Makkedah and put it to the sword, along with its king. He devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. So he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of
Jericho.
Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and
all Israel with him, unto
Libnah, and fought against
Libnah:
Then Joshua and
all Israel with him moved on from Makkedah to
Libnah and fought against
Libnah.
And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he
smote it with the edge of the sword, and
all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of
Jericho.
And the LORD also delivered that city and its king into the hand of Israel, and Joshua put
all the people to the sword, leaving no survivors. And he did to the king of
Libnah as he had done to the king of
Jericho.
And Joshua passed from
Libnah, and
all Israel with him, unto
Lachish, and
encamped against it, and fought against it:
And Joshua and
all Israel with him moved on from
Libnah to
Lachish. They laid siege to it and fought against it.
And the LORD delivered
Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and
all the souls that were therein, according to
all that he had done to
Libnah.
And the LORD delivered
Lachish into the hand of Israel, and Joshua captured it on the second day. He put
all the people to the sword, just as he had done to
Libnah.
And from
Lachish Joshua passed unto
Eglon, and
all Israel with him; and they
encamped against it, and fought against it:
So Joshua moved on from
Lachish to
Eglon, and
all Israel with him. They laid siege to it and fought against it.
And they took it on that day, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and
all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to
all that he had done to
Lachish.
That day they captured
Eglon and put it to the sword, and Joshua devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, just as he had done to
Lachish.
And Joshua went up from
Eglon, and
all Israel with him, unto
Hebron; and they fought against it:
Then Joshua and
all Israel with him went up from
Eglon to
Hebron and fought against it.
And they took it, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and
all the cities thereof, and
all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to
all that he had done to
Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and
all the souls that were therein.
They captured it and put to the sword its king,
all its villages, and
all the people. Joshua left no survivors, just as he had done at
Eglon; he devoted to destruction
Hebron and
everyone in it.
And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:
Finally Joshua and all Israel with him turned toward Debir and fought against it.
And he took it, and the king thereof, and
all the cities thereof; and they
smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed
all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to
Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to
Libnah, and to her king.
And they captured Debir, its king, and
all its villages. They put them to the sword and devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. Joshua did to Debir and its king as he had done to
Hebron and as he had done to
Libnah and its king.
So Joshua
smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the
vale, and of the springs, and
all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed
all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.
So Joshua conquered the whole region—the hill country, the Negev, the foothills, and the slopes, together with all their kings—leaving no survivors. He devoted to destruction everything that breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
And Joshua
smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto
Gaza, and
all the country of
Goshen, even unto
Gibeon.
Joshua conquered the area from Kadesh-barnea to
Gaza, and the whole region of
Goshen as far as
Gibeon.
And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.
And because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel, Joshua captured all these kings and their land in one campaign.
And Joshua returned, and
all Israel with him, unto the camp to
Gilgal.
Then Joshua returned with
all Israel to the camp at
Gilgal.
And they went out, they and
all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and
chariots very many.
So these kings came out with
all their armies, a multitude as numerous as the sand on the
seashore, along with a great number of horses and
chariots.
And when
all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of
Merom, to fight against Israel.
All these kings joined forces and
encamped at the waters of
Merom to fight against Israel.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to
morrow about this time will I deliver them up
all slain before Israel: thou shalt
hough their horses, and burn their
chariots with fire.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for by this time
tomorrow I will deliver
all of them slain before Israel. You are to
hamstring their horses and burn up their
chariots.”
So Joshua came, and
all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of
Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.
So by the waters of
Merom, Joshua and his whole army came upon them suddenly and attacked them,
And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who
smote them, and
chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-
maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they
smote them, until they left them none remaining.
and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who struck them down and pursued them
all the way to Greater
Sidon and Misrephoth-
maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of Mizpeh. They struck them down, leaving no survivors.
And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and
smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor
beforetime was the head of
all those kingdoms.
At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword, because Hazor was formerly the head of all these kingdoms.
And they
smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to
breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.
The Israelites put
everyone in Hazor to the sword,
devoting them to destruction. Nothing that breathed remained, and Joshua burned down Hazor itself.
And
all the cities of those kings, and
all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and
smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.
Joshua captured all these kings and their cities and put them to the sword. He devoted them to destruction, as Moses the LORD’s servant had commanded.
And
all the
spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they
smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to
breathe.
The Israelites took for themselves
all the
plunder and
livestock of these cities, but they put
all the people to the sword until they had completely destroyed them, not
sparing anyone who breathed.
As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.
As the LORD had commanded His servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. That is what Joshua did, leaving nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.
So Joshua took
all that land, the hills, and
all the south country, and
all the land of
Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
So Joshua took this entire region: the hill country,
all the Negev,
all the land of
Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah, and the mountains of Israel and their foothills,
