Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might,
and His arm establishes His rule. His reward is with Him,
and His
recompense accompanies Him.
He shall feed his flock like a
shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm,
and carry them in his
bosom,
and shall gently lead those that are with young.
He tends His flock like a
shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms
and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the
nursing ewes.
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
and meted out heaven with the span,
and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure,
and weighed the mountains in scales,
and the hills in a balance?
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has held the dust of the earth in a
basket, or
weighed the mountains on a scale
and the hills with a balance?
With whom took he counsel,
and who
instructed him,
and taught him in the path of judgment,
and taught him knowledge,
and shewed to him the way of understanding?
Whom did He
consult to
enlighten Him,
and who taught Him the paths of justice? Who imparted knowledge to Him
and showed Him the way of understanding?
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a
bucket,
and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Surely the nations are like a drop in a
bucket; they are considered a
speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
Lebanon is not sufficient for fuel, nor its animals enough for a burnt offering.
All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
All the nations are as nothing before Him; He regards them as nothingness
and emptiness.
To an
idol that a
craftsman casts
and a metalworker overlays with gold
and fits with silver chains?
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth,
and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a
curtain,
and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a
curtain,
and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
He brings the princes to nothing and makes the rulers of the earth meaningless.
Yea, they shall not be planted;
yea, they shall not be sown:
yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth:
and he shall also blow upon them,
and they shall wither,
and the
whirlwind shall take them away as
stubble.
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems taken root in the ground, than He blows on them
and they wither,
and a
whirlwind sweeps them away like
stubble.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads forth the
starry host by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power
and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Why sayest thou, O Jacob,
and speakest, O Israel, My way is
hid from the LORD,
and my judgment is passed over from my God?
Why do you say, O Jacob,
and why do you assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD,
and my claim is
ignored by my God”?
He giveth power to the
faint;
and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
He gives power to the
faint and increases the strength of the weak.
Even the youths shall
faint and be
weary,
and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run,
and not be
weary;
and they shall walk,
and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run
and not grow
weary, they will walk
and not
faint.
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
“Be silent before Me, O islands,
and let the peoples renew their strength. Let them come forward
and testify; let us together draw near for judgment.
Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him,
and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword,
and as driven
stubble to his bow.
Who has
aroused one from the east
and called him to his feet in righteousness? He hands nations over to him
and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown
chaff with his bow.
He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.
He pursues them, going on safely, hardly touching the path with his feet.
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Who has performed this and carried it out, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD—the first and the last— I am He.”
The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.
The islands see
and fear; the ends of the earth
tremble. They approach
and come forward.
They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.
Each one helps the other and says to his brother, “Be strong!”
So the
carpenter encouraged the
goldsmith,
and he that smootheth with the hammer him that
smote the
anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering:
and he fastened it with
nails, that it should not be moved.
Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.
I brought you from the ends of the earth
and called you from its
farthest corners. I said, ‘You are My servant.’ I have chosen
and not rejected you.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be
ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing;
and they that
strive with thee shall perish.
Behold, all who
rage against you will be
ashamed and disgraced; those who
contend with you will be reduced to nothing
and will perish.
Thou shalt seek them,
and shalt not find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing,
and as a thing of
nought.
You will seek them but will not find them. Those who
wage war against you will come to nothing.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
Fear not, thou worm Jacob,
and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD,
and thy
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Do not fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your
Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
Behold, I will make thee a new sharp
threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt
thresh the mountains,
and beat them small,
and shalt make the hills as
chaff.
Behold, I will make you into a
threshing sledge, new
and sharp, with many teeth. You will
thresh the mountains
and crush them,
and reduce the hills to
chaff.
Thou shalt
fan them,
and the wind shall carry them away,
and the
whirlwind shall
scatter them:
and thou shalt
rejoice in the LORD,
and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
You will
winnow them,
and a wind will carry them away; a
gale will
scatter them. But you will
rejoice in the LORD; you will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
When the poor
and needy seek water,
and there is none,
and their tongue faileth for
thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not
forsake them.
The poor
and needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are
parched with
thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not
forsake them.
I will open rivers in high places,
and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a
pool of water,
and the dry land springs of water.
I will open rivers on the barren heights,
and fountains in the middle of the valleys. I will turn the desert into a
pool of water,
and the dry land into flowing springs.
I will plant in the wilderness the
cedar, the
shittah tree,
and the
myrtle,
and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the
fir tree,
and the pine,
and the box tree together:
I will plant cedars in the wilderness,
acacias, myrtles,
and olive trees. I will set
cypresses in the desert, elms
and boxwood together,
That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
so that all may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this and the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
Let them bring them forth,
and shew us what shall happen: let them
shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them,
and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
“Let them come
and tell us what will happen. Tell the former things, so that we may
reflect on them
and know the outcome. Or
announce to us what is coming.
Shew the things that are to come
hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods:
yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed,
and behold it together.
Tell us the things that are to come, so that we may know that you are gods.
Yes, do something good or evil, that we may look on together in dismay.
Behold, ye are of nothing,
and your work of
nought: an
abomination is he that chooseth you.
Behold, you are nothing
and your work is of no value.
Anyone who chooses you is
detestable.
I have raised up one from the north,
and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name:
and he shall come upon princes as upon
morter,
and as the
potter treadeth clay.
I have raised up one from the north,
and he has come— one from the east who calls on My name. He will march over rulers as if they were mortar, like a
potter who treads the clay.
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know?
and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous?
yea, there is none that sheweth,
yea, there is none that declareth,
yea, there is none that heareth your words.
Who has declared this from the beginning, so that we may know,
and from times past, so that we may say: ‘He was right’? No one
announced it, no one
foretold it, no one heard your words.
The first shall say to
Zion, Behold, behold them:
and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good
tidings.
I was the first to tell
Zion: ‘Look, here they are!’
And I gave to Jerusalem a
herald of good news.
For I
beheld,
and there was no man; even among them,
and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
When I look, there is no one; there is no
counselor among them; when I ask them, they have nothing to say.
Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their
molten images are wind
and confusion.
See, they are all a
delusion; their works amount to nothing; their images are as empty as the wind.
Behold my servant, whom I
uphold; mine
elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
“Here is My Servant, whom I
uphold, My Chosen One, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him,
and He will bring justice to the nations.
A
bruised reed shall he not break,
and the smoking flax shall he not
quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
He will not grow weak or discouraged before He has established justice on the earth. In His law the islands will put their hope.”
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
This is what God the LORD says— He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it:
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
“I, the LORD, have called you for a righteous purpose,
and I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you
and appoint you to be a covenant for the people
and a light to the nations,
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
to open the eyes of the blind, to bring prisoners out of the
dungeon and those sitting in darkness out from the prison house.
I am the LORD: that is my name:
and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to
graven images.
I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols.
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Behold, the former things have happened,
and now I declare new things. Before they spring forth I
proclaim them to you.”
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Sing to the LORD a new song— His praise from the ends of the earth— you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who dwell in them.
Let the wilderness
and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them
shout from the top of the mountains.
Let the desert
and its cities raise their voices; let the villages of
Kedar cry
aloud. Let the people of Sela sing for joy; let them cry out from the mountaintops.
Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
Let them give glory to the LORD and declare His praise in the islands.
“I have kept silent from ages past; I have remained quiet
and restrained. But now I will
groan like a woman in labor; I will at once
gasp and pant.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I will lay waste the mountains
and hills
and dry up all their vegetation. I will turn the rivers into dry land
and drain the marshes.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them,
and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them,
and not
forsake them.
I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on unfamiliar paths. I will turn darkness into light before them
and rough places into level ground. These things I will do for them,
and I will not
forsake them.
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly
ashamed, that trust in
graven images, that say to the
molten images, Ye are our gods.
But those who trust in idols
and say to
molten images, ‘You are our gods!’ will be turned back in utter shame.
Hear, ye
deaf;
and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
Listen, you
deaf ones; look, you blind ones, that you may see!
Who is blind, but my servant? or
deaf, as my
messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect,
and blind as the LORD’S servant?
Who is blind but My servant, or
deaf like the
messenger I am sending? Who is blind like My covenant
partner, or blind like the servant of the LORD?
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will
magnify the law,
and make it honourable.
The LORD was pleased, for the sake of His righteousness, to
magnify His law
and make it glorious.
But this is a people
robbed and spoiled; they are all of them
snared in holes,
and they are
hid in prison houses: they are for a prey,
and none delivereth; for a
spoil,
and none saith, Restore.
Who among you will give ear to this? who will
hearken and hear for the time to come?
Who among you will pay attention to this? Who will
listen and obey
hereafter?
Who gave Jacob for a
spoil,
and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have
sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they
obedient unto his law.
Who gave Jacob up for
spoil,
and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have
sinned? They were unwilling to walk in His ways,
and they would not obey His law.
Therefore he hath poured upon him the
fury of his anger,
and the strength of battle:
and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not;
and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
So He poured out on them His
furious anger
and the fierceness of battle. It
enveloped them in flames, but they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Now this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine!
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee;
and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you go through the rivers, they will not
overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be
scorched; the flames will not set you
ablaze.
For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy
ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your
Savior; I give Egypt for your
ransom,
Cush and Seba in your place.
Since thou
wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable,
and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee,
and people for thy life.
Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.
Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back!’ Bring My sons from
afar,
and My daughters from the ends of the earth—
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him;
yea, I have made him.
everyone called by My name
and created for My glory, whom I have indeed formed
and made.”
Bring forth the blind people that have eyes,
and the
deaf that have ears.
Bring out a people who have eyes but are blind,
and who have ears but are
deaf.
Let all the nations be gathered together,
and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this,
and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear,
and say, It is truth.
All the nations gather together
and the peoples
assemble. Who among them can declare this,
and proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to
vindicate them, so that others may hear
and say, “It is true.”
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come.
I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
I,
yes I, am the LORD,
and there is no
Savior but Me.
I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
I alone decreed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. So you are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.
Yea, before the day was I am he;
and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work,
and who shall let it?
Even from
eternity I am He,
and none can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”
Thus saith the LORD, your
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon,
and have brought down all their nobles,
and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
Thus says the LORD your
Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake, I will send to Babylon
and bring them all as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they
rejoice.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the
creator of Israel, your King.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the
Creator of Israel,
and your King.”
Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;
Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea
and a path through the
surging waters,
Which bringeth forth the
chariot and horse, the army
and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are
quenched as
tow.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
The beast of the field shall honour me, the
dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness,
and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I provide water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
I,
yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake
and remembers your sins no more.
Therefore I have
profaned the princes of the sanctuary,
and have given Jacob to the
curse,
and Israel to reproaches.
So I will disgrace the princes of your sanctuary,
and I will
devote Jacob to destruction
and Israel to reproach.”
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
But now
listen, O Jacob My servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.
Thus saith the LORD that made thee,
and formed thee from the
womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant;
and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
This is the word of the LORD, your Maker, who formed you from the
womb and who will help you: “Do not be afraid, O Jacob My servant,
Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
For I will pour water upon him that is
thirsty,
and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed,
and my blessing upon thine offspring:
For I will pour water on the
thirsty land,
and currents on the dry ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants,
and My blessing on your offspring.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They will
sprout among the grass like willows by flowing streams.
One shall say, I am the LORD’S;
and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob;
and another shall
subscribe with his hand unto the LORD,
and surname himself by the name of Israel.
One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name of Israel.”
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel,
and his
redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first,
and I am the last;
and beside me there is no God.
Thus says the LORD, the King
and Redeemer of Israel, the LORD of Hosts: “I am the first
and I am the last,
and there is no God but Me.
And who, as I, shall call,
and shall declare it,
and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people?
and the things that are coming,
and shall come, let them
shew unto them.
Who then is like Me? Let him say so! Let him declare his case before Me, since I established an ancient people. Let him
foretell the things to come,
and what is to take place.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time,
and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me?
yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Do not
tremble or fear. Have I not told you
and declared it long ago? You are My witnesses! Is there any God but Me? There is no other Rock; I know not one.”
They that make a
graven image are all of them vanity;
and their
delectable things shall not profit;
and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be
ashamed.
All makers of idols are nothing,
and the things they
treasure are worthless. Their witnesses fail to see or
comprehend, so they are put to shame.
Behold, all his fellows shall be
ashamed:
and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear,
and they shall be
ashamed together.
Behold, all his companions will be put to shame, for the
craftsmen themselves are only human. Let them all
assemble and take their stand; they will all be brought to terror
and shame.
The smith with the
tongs both worketh in the coals,
and fashioneth it with hammers,
and worketh it with the strength of his arms:
yea, he is
hungry,
and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water,
and is
faint.
The
blacksmith takes a tool
and labors over the coals; he fashions an
idol with hammers
and forges it with his strong arms. Yet he grows
hungry and loses his strength; he fails to drink water
and grows
faint.
The
carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes,
and he marketh it out with the compass,
and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
The woodworker extends a measuring line; he marks it out with a
stylus; he shapes it with chisels
and outlines it with a compass. He fashions it in the likeness of man, like man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a
shrine.
He heweth him down cedars,
and taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash,
and the rain
doth nourish it.
He cuts down cedars or retrieves a
cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a
laurel,
and the rain makes it grow.
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof,
and warm himself;
yea, he kindleth it,
and baketh bread;
yea, he maketh a god,
and worshippeth it; he maketh it a
graven image,
and falleth down
thereto.
It serves as fuel for man. He takes some of it to warm himself,
and he kindles a fire
and bakes his bread; he even fashions it into a god
and worships it; he makes an
idol and bows down to it.
