His
watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all
dumb dogs, they cannot
bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to
slumber.
Israel’s
watchmen are blind, they are all
oblivious; they are all
mute dogs, they cannot
bark; they are dreamers lying around, loving to
slumber.
But your
iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have
hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
But your
iniquities have built
barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he
bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and
compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.
We have become like those You never ruled, like those not called by Your name.
Withhold thy foot from being
unshod, and thy throat from
thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
You should have kept your feet from going
bare and your throat from being
thirsty. But you said, ‘It is hopeless! For I love foreign gods, and I must go after them.’
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the
barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the land with your
prostitution and wickedness.
A voice was heard upon the high places,
weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have
perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.
A voice is heard on the
barren heights, the children of Israel
weeping and
begging for mercy, because they have
perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD their God.
At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to
fan, nor to
cleanse,
At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A
searing wind from the
barren heights in the desert blows toward the daughter of My people, but not to
winnow or to
sift;
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not
tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof
toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they
roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Do you not fear Me?” declares the LORD. “Do you not
tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary for the sea, an
enduring barrier it cannot cross? The waves
surge, but they cannot prevail. They
roar but cannot cross it.
Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a
lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and
forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a
lamentation on the
barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and
forsaken the generation of His wrath.’
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall
devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.
And if you ask
yourself, “Why has this happened to me?” It is because of the magnitude of your iniquity that your skirts have been
stripped off and your body has been exposed.
And the wild
asses did stand in the high places, they
snuffed up the wind like
dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
Wild
donkeys stand on
barren heights; they
pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail for lack of pasture.”
For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that
bare them, and concerning their fathers that
begat them in this land;
For this is what the LORD says concerning the sons and daughters born in this place, and the mothers who bore them, and the fathers who fathered them in this land:
Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother
bare me be blessed.
Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my mother bore me never be blessed.
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
I will
hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another land, where neither of you were born—and there you both will die.
And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses that
subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.
and I gave this deed to
Baruch son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the sight of my cousin Hanamel and the witnesses who were signing the purchase agreement and all the Jews sitting in the
courtyard of the guard.
And I charged
Baruch before them, saying,
Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,
After I had given the deed of purchase to
Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
Then Jeremiah called
Baruch the son of Neriah: and
Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
So Jeremiah called
Baruch son of Neriah, and at the
dictation of Jeremiah,
Baruch wrote on a
scroll all the words that the LORD had spoken to Jeremiah.
And Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:
Then Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, “I am restricted; I cannot enter the house of the LORD;
And
Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’S house.
So
Baruch son of Neriah did everything that Jeremiah the prophet had commanded him. In the house of the LORD he read the words of the LORD from the
scroll.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the people.
Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when
Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
And Micaiah reported to them all the words he had heard
Baruch read from the
scroll in the hearing of the people.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So
Baruch read it in their ears.
“Please sit down,” they said, “and read it in our hearing.” So
Baruch read it in their hearing.
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
And they asked
Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How
didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
“Tell us now,” they asked
Baruch, “how did you write all these words? Was it at Jeremiah’s
dictation?”
Then
Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
“It was at his
dictation,”
Baruch replied. “He recited all these words to me and I wrote them in ink on the
scroll.”
Then said the princes unto
Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
Then the officials said to
Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must hide
yourselves and tell no one where you are.”
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD
hid them.
Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which
Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
After the king had burned the
scroll containing the words that
Baruch had written at Jeremiah’s
dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to
Baruch the
scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
Then Jeremiah took another
scroll and gave it to the
scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s
dictation he wrote on it all the words of the
scroll that
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
But ten men were found among them that said unto
Ishmael,
Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of
barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he
forbare, and
slew them not among their brethren.
But ten of the men among them said to
Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for we have hidden
treasure in the field—wheat,
barley, oil, and honey!” So he
refrained from killing them with the others.
But
Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away
captives into Babylon.
Rather,
Baruch son of Neriah is
inciting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, so that they may put us to death or exile us to Babylon!”
Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and
Baruch the son of Neriah.
the men, the women, the children, the king’s daughters, and
everyone whom Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had allowed to remain with Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, as well as Jeremiah the prophet and
Baruch son of Neriah.
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, saying,
This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to
Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a
scroll at the
dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah, king of Judah:
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O
Baruch;
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you,
Baruch:
Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will
pluck up, even this whole land.
Thus Jeremiah was to say to
Baruch: “This is what the LORD says: Throughout the land I will
demolish what I have built and
uproot what I have planted.
But I have made
Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is
spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
But I will strip
Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, and he will be unable to
conceal himself. His descendants will be destroyed along with his relatives and neighbors, and he will be no more.
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, one that dwells securely,” declares the LORD. “They have no gates or bars; they live alone.
Your mother shall be
sore confounded; she that
bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
your mother will be greatly
ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set
ablaze, the
bars of her gates are broken.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their
bars. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
He hath inclosed my ways with
hewn stone, he hath made my paths
crooked.
He has
barred my ways with cut stones; He has made my paths
crooked.
Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt
prophesy against it.
You must turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm
bared, and
prophesy against it.
Take thou also unto thee wheat, and
barley, and beans, and lentiles, and
millet, and
fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and
ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
But take wheat,
barley, beans, lentils,
millet, and
spelt; put them in a single container and make them into bread for
yourself. This is what you are to eat during the 390 days you lie on your side.
And thou shalt eat it as
barley cakes, and thou shalt
bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.
And you shall eat the food as you would a
barley cake, after you
bake it over dried human
excrement in the sight of the people.”
And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a
barber’s
razor, and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy
beard: then take thee balances to
weigh, and divide the hair.
“As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword, use it as a
barber’s
razor, and
shave your head and
beard. Then take a set of scales and divide the hair.
And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I
digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the
twilight, and I
bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.
So I did as I was commanded. I brought out my bags for exile by day, and in the evening I
dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings out at
dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
And will ye
pollute me among my people for handfuls of
barley and for pieces of bread, to
slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
You have
profaned Me among My people for handfuls of
barley and scraps of bread. By lying to My people who would
listen, you have killed those who should not have died and
spared those who should not have lived.
I have caused thee to multiply as the
bud of the field, and thou hast increased and
waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou
wast naked and
bare.
I made you
thrive like a plant of the field. You grew up and
matured and became very beautiful. Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, but you were naked and
bare.
And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou
wast naked and
bare, and
wast polluted in thy blood.
And in all your abominations and acts of
prostitution, you did not remember the days of your youth when you were naked and
bare,
wallowing in your own blood.
And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will level your mounds and
tear down your lofty shrines. They will strip off your clothes, take your fine
jewelry, and leave you naked and
bare.
And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that
bare rule, and her
stature was
exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.
It had strong branches, fit for a ruler’s
scepter. It towered high above the thick branches, conspicuous for its height and for its dense foliage.
And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and
Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they
bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem
Aholibah.
The older was named Oholah, and her sister was named Oholibah. They became Mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. As for their
identities, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
And they shall deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and
bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and leave you naked and
bare, so that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity That they have committed
adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed
adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they
bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to
devour them.
For they have committed
adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed
adultery with their idols. They have even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to Me, in the fire as food for their idols.
For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;
For the blood she shed is still within her; she poured it out on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
That it might cause
fury to come up to take
vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.
In order to
stir up wrath and take
vengeance, I have placed her blood on the
bare rock, so that it would not be covered.’
And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also
scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock.
They will destroy the walls of Tyre and
demolish her towers. I will
scrape the soil from her and make her a
bare rock.
And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
I will make you a bare rock, and you will become a place to spread the fishing nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the LORD, have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.’
The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy
merchandise.
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
The trees of the field will give their fruit, and the land will yield its produce; My flock will be secure in their land. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the
bars of their yoke and delivered them from the hands that
enslaved them.
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will come against a
tranquil people who dwell securely, all of them living without walls or
bars or gates—
This is the
oblation that ye shall offer; the sixth part of an
ephah of an homer of wheat, and ye shall give the sixth part of an
ephah of an homer of
barley:
This is the contribution you are to offer: a sixth of an
ephah from each homer of wheat, and a sixth of an
ephah from each homer of
barley.
So he went and took
Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and
bare him a son.
So
Hosea went and married
Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
Gomer again conceived and gave birth to a daughter, and the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have
compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever
forgive them.
Now when she had
weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and
bare a son.
After she had
weaned Lo-ruhamah,
Gomer conceived and gave birth to a son.
So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley.
And the sword shall
abide on his cities, and shall
consume his branches, and
devour them, because of their own counsels.
A sword will
flash through their cities; it will destroy the
bars of their gates and
consume them in their own plans.
He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
It has laid waste My
grapevine and
splintered My fig tree. It has
stripped off the
bark and thrown it away; the branches have turned white.
Be ye
ashamed, O ye
husbandmen;
howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the
barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
Be dismayed, O farmers,
wail, O vinedressers, over the wheat and
barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.
The seed is
rotten under their clods, the garners are laid
desolate, the
barns are broken down; for the corn is
withered.
The seeds lie
shriveled beneath the clods; the storehouses are in ruins; the
granaries are broken down, for the grain has
withered away.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land
barren and
desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his
stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
The northern army I will drive away from you,
banishing it to a
barren and
desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern Sea, and its rear guard into the Western Sea. And its
stench will rise; its foul
odor will
ascend. For He has done great things.
And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an
harlot, and sold a
girl for wine, that they might drink.
I will break also the
bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of
Aven, and him that holdeth the
sceptre from the house of
Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
I will break down the gates of Damascus; I will cut off the ruler of the Valley of
Aven and the one who wields the
scepter in Beth-
eden. The people of
Aram will be exiled to Kir,” says the LORD.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me
barred me in
forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!
Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall
devour thy
bars.
Look at your troops— they are like your women! The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire consumes their bars.
Is the seed yet in the
barn?
yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the
pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I
bless you.
Is there still seed in the
barn? The vine, the fig, the
pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yet yielded fruit. But from this day on, I will
bless you.”
Whose
fan is in his hand, and he will throughly
purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the
garner; but he will burn up the
chaff with
unquenchable fire.
Behold the fowls of the air: for they
sow not, neither do they
reap, nor gather into
barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Look at the birds of the air: They do not
sow or
reap or gather into
barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our
infirmities, and
bare our sicknesses.
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took on our
infirmities and carried our diseases.”
Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my
barn.
Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my
barn.’”
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of
Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven.
That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias son of
Barachias, whom ye
slew between the temple and the altar.
And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
At that time they were holding a
notorious prisoner named
Barabbas.
Therefore when they were gathered together,
Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you?
Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
So when the crowd had assembled,
Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you:
Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death.
The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the
twain will ye that I release unto you? They said,
Barabbas.
“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they replied.
Then released he
Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be
crucified.
And Andrew, and Philip, and
Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the
Canaanite,
Andrew, Philip,
Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the
Zealot,
And they came to
Jericho: and as he went out of
Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind
Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the
highway side
begging.
Next, they came to
Jericho. And as Jesus and His disciples were leaving
Jericho with a large crowd, a blind
beggar named
Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside the road.
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
Throwing off his
cloak,
Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus.
For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
For many bore false witness against Jesus, but their testimony was inconsistent.
And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
Then some men stood up and
testified falsely against Him:
And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.
And a man named Barabbas was imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection.
But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
But the chief priests
stirred up the crowd to have him release
Barabbas to them instead.
