And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall
shew thee; for to the intent that I might
shew them unto thee art thou brought
hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
And to me this
mystery has
been revealed, not because I have more wisdom than any man alive, but in order that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.
Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines,
drank in them.
Thus they brought in the gold vessels that had
been taken from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king
drank from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
And now the wise men, the astrologers, have
been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not
shew the interpretation of the thing:
Now the wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this inscription and
interpret it for me, but they could not give its interpretation.
TEKEL; Thou art
weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
TEKEL means that you have
been weighed on the scales and found deficient.
PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
PERES means that your kingdom has been divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.”
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he
kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave
thanks before his God, as he did
aforetime.
Now when Daniel learned that the document had
been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave
thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
And when he came to the den, he
cried with a
lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
When he reached the den, he
cried out in a voice of
anguish, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually,
been able to deliver you from the lions?”
And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been spoken is true. Now you must seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”
Yea, all Israel have
transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the
curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have
sinned against him.
All Israel has
transgressed Your law and turned away, refusing to obey Your voice; so the oath and the
curse written in the Law of Moses the servant of God has
been poured out on us, because we have
sinned against You.
And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
You have carried out the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us a great
disaster. For under all of heaven, nothing has ever
been done like what has
been done to Jerusalem.
And after
threescore and two weeks shall
Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then after the sixty-two weeks the
Messiah will be cut off and will have nothing. Then the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have
been decreed.
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood
trembling.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man who is highly precious. Consider carefully the words that I am about to say to you. Stand up, for I have now
been sent to you.” And when he had said this to me, I stood up
trembling.
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall
exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall
prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Then the king will do as he pleases and will
exalt and
magnify himself above every god, and he will speak
monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has
been decreed must be accomplished.
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and
sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to
scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
And the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him
swear by Him who lives
forever, saying, “It will be for a time, and times, and half a time. When the power of the holy people has finally
been shattered, all these things will be completed.”
The word of the LORD that came unto
Hosea, the son of
Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and
Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of
Jeroboam the son of
Joash, king of Israel.
This is the word of the LORD that came to
Hosea son of
Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and
Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and of
Jeroboam son of Jehoash, king of Israel.
Hear ye this, O priests; and
hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have
been a
snare on
Mizpah, and a net spread upon
Tabor.
“Hear this, O priests! Take
heed, O house of Israel! Give ear, O royal house! For this judgment is against you because you have
been a
snare at
Mizpah, a net spread out on
Tabor.
And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have
been a
rebuker of them all.
The rebels are deep in slaughter; but I will
chastise them all.
They have dealt
treacherously against the LORD: for they have
begotten strange children: now shall a month
devour them with their portions.
They have
been unfaithful to the LORD; for they have borne
illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will
devour them along with their land.
The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the
calves of Beth-
aven: for the people thereof shall
mourn over it, and the priests thereof that
rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
The people of Samaria will fear for the
calf of Beth-
aven. Indeed, its people will
mourn with its
idolatrous priests— those who
rejoiced in its glory— for it has
been taken from them into exile.
Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Hear this, O elders; and give ear, all who dwell in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your fathers?
Awake, ye drunkards, and
weep; and
howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
Wake up, you drunkards, and
weep;
wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it has
been cut off from your mouth.
The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’S ministers,
mourn.
Grain and drink offerings have
been cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests are in
mourning, those who minister before the LORD.
Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,
yea, joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Has not the food
been cut off before our very eyes— joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
A day of darkness and of
gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not
been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
a day of darkness and
gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like the
dawn overspreading the mountains a great and strong army appears, such as never was of old, nor will ever be in ages to come.
Can a bird fall in a
snare upon the earth, where no
gin is for him? shall one take up a
snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?
Does a bird land in a
snare where no
bait has
been set? Does a
trap spring from the ground when it has nothing to catch?
They that
swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O
Dan, liveth; and, The manner of
Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
The vision of
Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
This is the vision of
Obadiah: This is what the Lord GOD says about
Edom— We have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has
been sent among the nations to say, “Rise up, and let us go to battle against her!”—
For as ye have
drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually,
yea, they shall drink, and they shall
swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not
been.
For as you
drank on My holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. They will drink and
gulp it down; they will be as if they had never existed.
Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’
But thou,
Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have
been from of old, from
everlasting.
But you,
Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come forth for Me One to be ruler over Israel— One whose origins are of old, from the days of
eternity.
The shield of his mighty men is made red, the
valiant men are in scarlet: the
chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the
fir trees shall be
terribly shaken.
The shields of his mighty men are red; the
valiant warriors are dressed in scarlet. The fittings of the
chariots flash like fire on the day they are prepared, and the spears of
cypress have
been brandished.
But
Nineveh is of old like a
pool of water: yet they shall
flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.
Nineveh has
been like a
pool of water throughout her days, but now it is
draining away. “Stop! Stop!” they cry, but no one turns back.
Behold, at that time I will
undo all that
afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have
been put to shame.
Behold, at that time, I will deal with all who
afflict you. I will save the
lame and gather the scattered; and I will
appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth.
The LORD hath
been sore displeased with your fathers.
“The LORD was very
angry with your fathers.
Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long
wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had
indignation these
threescore and ten years?
Then the angel of the LORD said, “How long, O LORD of Hosts, will You
withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have
been angry these seventy years?”
And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a
curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong.
As you have
been a
curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid; let your hands be strong.”
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have
been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be called the Land of Wickedness, and a people with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
And now, I pray you,
beseech God that he will be
gracious unto us: this hath
been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
“But ask now for God’s favor. Will He be
gracious? Since this has come from your hands, will He show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.
“So I in turn have made you
despised and
humiliated before all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have shown
partiality in matters of the law.”
Judah hath dealt
treacherously, and an
abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has
been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath
been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt
treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Yet you ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
“Because I, the LORD, do not change, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.
Your words have
been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
“Your words against Me have been harsh,” says the LORD. “Yet you ask, ‘What have we spoken against You?’
And
Jesse begat David the king; and David the king
begat Solomon of her that had
been the wife of Urias;
and
Jesse the father of David the king. Next: David was the father of Solomon by Uriah’s wife,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
And being
warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And having
been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding
wroth, and sent forth, and
slew all the children that were in
Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had
diligently enquired of the wise men.
When Herod saw that he had
been outwitted by the
Magi, he was filled with
rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in
Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the
Magi.
But when he heard that
Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being
warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of
Galilee:
But when he learned that
Archelaus was reigning in
Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having
been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of
Galilee,
Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into
Galilee;
When Jesus heard that John had
been imprisoned, He withdrew to
Galilee.
Again, ye have heard that it hath
been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not break your oath, but
fulfill your vows to the Lord.’
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’
Ye have heard that it hath
been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and
hate thine enemy.
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your
neighbor’ and ‘
Hate your enemy.’
But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the
maid arose.
After the crowd had
been put outside, Jesus went in and took the
girl by the hand, and she got up.
And when the devil was cast out, the
dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
And when the
demon had
been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were
amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever
been seen in Israel!”
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house
Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subject to violence, and the violent lay claim to it.
Then began he to
upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they
repented not:
Then Jesus began to
denounce the cities in which most of His miracles had
been performed, because they did not
repent.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin!
woe unto thee,
Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had
been done in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in
sackcloth and ashes.
“
Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had
been performed in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in
sackcloth and ashes.
And thou,
Capernaum, which art
exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to
hell: for if the mighty works, which have
been done in thee, had
been done in
Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
And you,
Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had
been performed in
Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to
whomsoever the Son will
reveal him.
All things have
been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to
reveal Him.
But when the
Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow
doth not cast out devils, but by
Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
But when the
Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by
Beelzebul, the prince of demons, does this man drive out demons.”
And if I by
Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
Then said he unto them, Therefore every
scribe which is
instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his
treasure things new and old.
Then He told them, “For this reason, every
scribe who has
been discipled in the kingdom of heaven is like a homeowner who brings out of his
storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
because John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have
compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they
faint in the way.
Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I have
compassion for this crowd, because they have already
been with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away
hungry, or they may
faint along the way.”
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Do not tell
anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has
been raised from the dead.”
But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
“Not
everyone can accept this word,” He replied, “but only those to whom it has
been given.
And about the
eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
About the
eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. ‘Why have you
been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ he asked.
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my
dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have
been invited that I have prepared my
dinner. My oxen and
fattened cattle have
been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the
wedding banquet.’
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have
been partners with them in
shedding the blood of the prophets.’
And except those days should be
shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the
elect’s sake those days shall be
shortened.
If those days had not
been cut short,
nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the
elect, those days will be cut short.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
For this
ointment might have
been sold for much, and given to the poor.
This
perfume could have
been sold at a high price, and the money given to the poor.”
The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but
woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is
betrayed! it had
been good for that man if he had not
been born.
The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but
woe to that man by whom He is
betrayed. It would be better for him if he had not
been born.”
Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
So the guards took the money and did as they were
instructed. And this account has
been circulated among the Jews to this very day.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
And the
scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
And the
scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by
Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”
And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the
mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
He replied, “The
mystery of the kingdom of God has
been given to you, but to those on the outside everything is expressed in parables,
Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
This man had been living in the tombs and could no longer be restrained, even with chains.
Because that he had
been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had
been plucked asunder by him, and the
fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man
tame him.
Though he was often bound with chains and
shackles, he had broken the chains and
shattered the
shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to
subdue him.
And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the
legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had
been possessed by the
legion of demons sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
As He was getting into the boat, the man who had
been possessed by the demons
begged to go with Him.
And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the
synagogue: and many hearing him were
astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the
synagogue, and many who heard Him were
astonished. “Where did this man get these ideas?” they asked. “What is this wisdom He has
been given? And how can He perform such miracles?
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife!”
Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
So Herodias held a
grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she had
been unable,
But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had
been a spirit, and
cried out:
but when they saw Him walking on the sea, they
cried out, thinking He was a ghost—
for they had not understood about the
loaves, but their hearts had
been hardened.
I have
compassion on the multitude, because they have now
been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
“I have
compassion for this crowd, because they have already
been with Me three days and have nothing to eat.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this
been with him?” “From
childhood,” he said.
But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
But they were silent, for on the way they had
been arguing about which of them was the greatest.
But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to grant. These seats belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
