By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their
habitation, which sing among the
branches.
The birds of the air nest beside the springs; they sing among the branches.
Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he
brake the whole staff of bread.
He called down famine on the land and cut off all their supplies of food.
He
smote their vines also and their fig trees; and
brake the trees of their coasts.
He struck their vines and fig trees and
shattered the trees of their country.
Thus they
provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague
brake in upon them.
So they
provoked the LORD to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and
brake their bands in
sunder.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke away their chains.
For he hath broken the gates of
brass, and cut the bars of iron in
sunder.
For He has broken down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
So she caught him, and
kissed him, and with an
impudent face said unto him,
She seizes him and kisses him; she
brazenly says to him:
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall
flourish as a
branch.
He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will
thrive like foliage.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a
brawling woman in a wide house.
Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a
quarrelsome wife.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a
brawling woman and in a wide house.
Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a
quarrelsome wife.
Though you
grind a
fool like grain with mortar and a
pestle, yet his folly will not depart from him.
Your
branches are an
orchard of pomegranates with the choicest of fruits, with
henna and
nard,
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
In that day the Lord will take away the
bravery of their
tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
In that day the Lord will take away their
finery: their anklets and headbands and crescents;
The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
their pendants, bracelets, and veils;
In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
On that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of Israel’s survivors.
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail,
branch and
rush, in one day.
So the LORD will cut off Israel’s head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day.
And the LORD of hosts shall
stir up a
scourge for him according to the slaughter of
Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
And the LORD of Hosts will
brandish a
whip against them, as when He struck
Midian at the rock of Oreb. He will raise His staff over the sea, as He did in Egypt.
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall
lop the
bough with terror: and the high ones of
stature shall be
hewn down, and the
haughty shall be humbled.
Behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts will
lop off the
branches with
terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be felled.
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of
Jesse, and a
Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Then a shoot will spring up from the
stump of
Jesse, and a
Branch from his roots will bear fruit.
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an
abominable branch, and as the
raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a
carcase trodden under feet.
But you are cast out of your grave like a rejected
branch, covered by those slain with the sword, and
dumped into a rocky pit like a
carcass trampled underfoot.
For the fields of
Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they
wandered through the wilderness: her
branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.
For the fields of
Heshbon have
withered, along with the grapevines of Sibmah. The rulers of the nations have
trampled its choicest vines, which had reached as far as Jazer and spread toward the desert. Their shoots had spread out and passed over the sea.
Yet
gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the
shaking of an olive tree, two or three
berries in the top of the
uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful
branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
Yet gleanings will remain, like an olive tree that has been beaten— two or three
berries atop the tree, four or five on its fruitful
branches,” declares the LORD, the God of Israel.
In that day shall his strong cities be as a
forsaken bough, and an
uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be
desolation.
In that day their strong cities will be like
forsaken thickets and summits, abandoned to the Israelites and to utter
desolation.
For
afore the harvest, when the
bud is perfect, and the
sour grape is
ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruninghooks, and take away and cut down the
branches.
For before the harvest, when the
blossom is gone and the flower becomes a
ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with a
pruning knife and remove and discard the
branches.
Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail,
branch or
rush, may do.
There is nothing Egypt can do— head or tail, palm or reed.
In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the
shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will
tremble with fear beneath the
uplifted hand of the LORD of Hosts, when He
brandishes it against them.
Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
like heat in a dry land. You
subdue the
uproar of foreigners. As the shade of a cloud cools the heat, so the song of the
ruthless is silenced.
Yet the defenced city shall be
desolate, and the
habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the
calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and
consume the
branches thereof.
For the fortified city lies deserted— a
homestead abandoned, a wilderness
forsaken. There the
calves graze, and there they lie down; they strip its
branches bare.
And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of
shaking will he fight with it.
And with every stroke of the rod of punishment that the LORD brings down on them, the tambourines and lyres will sound as He battles with weapons
brandished.
And thorns shall come up in her palaces,
nettles and
brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a
haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
I will go before thee, and make the
crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of
brass, and cut in
sunder the bars of iron:
“I will go before you and level the mountains; I will break down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
Remember this, and
shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.
Remember this and be
brave; take it to heart, you transgressors!
Because I knew that thou art
obstinate, and thy neck is an iron
sinew, and thy
brow brass;
For I knew that you are
stubborn; your neck is iron and your
forehead is bronze.
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
Instead of bronze I will bring you gold; I will bring silver in place of iron, bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stones. I will
appoint peace as your governor and righteousness as your ruler.
Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall
inherit the land for ever, the
branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be
glorified.
Then all your people will be righteous; they will possess the land
forever; they are the
branch of My planting, the work of My hands, so that I may be
glorified.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an
almond tree.
And the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” “I see a
branch of an
almond tree,” I replied.
For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron
pillar, and
brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron
pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD’S.
Go up through her vineyards and
ravage them, but do not finish them off. Strip off her
branches, for they do not belong to the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly
glean the
remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “
Glean the
remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine. Pass your hand once more like a
grape gatherer over the
branches.”
They are all
grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are
brass and iron; they are all corrupters.
All are
hardened rebels, walking around as slanderers. They are bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt.
The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great
tumult he hath
kindled fire upon it, and the
branches of it are broken.
The LORD once called you a flourishing olive tree, beautiful with well-formed fruit. But with a mighty
roar He will set it on fire, and its
branches will be consumed.
And I will make thee unto this people a
fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
Then I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save and deliver you, declares the LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous
Branch, and a King shall reign and
prosper, and shall
execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous
Branch, and He will reign wisely as King and will
administer justice and righteousness in the land.
Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and
brake it.
Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it.
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they
brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.
In those days, and at that time, will I cause the
Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall
execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
In those days and at that time I will cause to
sprout for David a righteous
Branch, and He will
administer justice and righteousness in the land.
And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and
brake down the walls of Jerusalem.
The Chaldeans set fire to the palace of the king and to the houses of the people, and they broke down the walls of Jerusalem.
And all the army of the Chaldeans, that were with the captain of the guard,
brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.
And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.
Also the pillars of
brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans
brake, and carried all the
brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.
The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the
bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of
brass wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
The two pillars, one sea, and twelve
brasen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: the
brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands that King Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
And a
chapiter of
brass was upon it; and the height of one
chapiter was five cubits, with network and pomegranates upon the chapiters round about, all of
brass. The second
pillar also and the pomegranates were like unto these.
The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was five cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its pomegranates, was similar.
And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a
calf’s foot: and they
sparkled like the colour of
burnished brass.
Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the
hooves of a
calf,
gleaming like polished bronze.
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the
branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the
branch to their nose!
And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s
inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the
brasen altar.
And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing
kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze altar.
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
“Son of man, how does the wood of the vine
surpass any other
branch among the trees in the forest?
I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
I adorned you with
jewelry, and I put
bracelets on your wrists and a chain around your neck.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had
divers colours, came unto
Lebanon, and took the highest
branch of the
cedar:
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers of many colors, came to
Lebanon and took away the top of the
cedar.
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low
stature, whose
branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth
branches, and shot forth sprigs.
It
sprouted and became a spreading vine, low in height, with
branches turned toward him; yet its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and yielded
branches and sent out shoots.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her
branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her
plantation.
But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
It had been planted in good soil by abundant waters in order to yield branches and bear fruit and become a splendid vine.’
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he
despised, and whose covenant he
brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘he will die in Babylon, in the land of the king who enthroned him, whose oath he
despised and whose covenant he broke.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest
branch of the high
cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take a shoot from the lofty top of the
cedar, and I will set it out. I will
pluck a tender
sprig from its
topmost shoots, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly
cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the
branches thereof shall they dwell.
I will plant it on the mountain heights of Israel so that it will bear
branches; it will yield fruit and become a
majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking shelter in the shade of its
branches.
Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
Your mother was like a vine in your
vineyard, planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of
branches because of the abundant waters.
And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her
stature was
exalted among the thick
branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her
branches.
It had strong
branches, fit for a ruler’s
scepter. It towered high above the thick
branches, conspicuous for its height and for its dense foliage.
But she was
plucked up in
fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and
withered; the fire consumed them.
But it was uprooted in
fury, cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong
branches were
stripped off and they
withered; the fire consumed them.
And fire is gone out of a rod of her
branches, which hath
devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a
sceptre to rule. This is a
lamentation, and shall be for a
lamentation.
Fire has gone out from its main
branch and
devoured its fruit; on it no strong
branch remains fit for a ruler’s
scepter.’ This is a
lament and shall be used as a
lament.”
Also, thou son of man,
appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both
twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
“Now you, son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take, both starting from the same land. And make a
signpost where the road
branches off to each city.
Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become
dross: all they are
brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the
dross of silver.
“Son of man, the house of Israel has become
dross to Me. All of them are copper, tin, iron, and lead inside the furnace; they are but the
dross of silver.
As they gather silver, and
brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to
melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my
fury, and I will leave you there, and
melt you.
Just as one gathers silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin into the furnace to
melt with a
fiery blast, so I will gather you in My anger and wrath, leave you there, and
melt you.
And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought
Sabeans from the wilderness, which put
bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.
accompanied by the sound of a carefree crowd. Drunkards were brought in from the desert along with men from the
rabble, who put
bracelets on your wrists and beautiful crowns on your head.
Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the
brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the
filthiness of it may be
molten in it, that the
scum of it may be consumed.
Set the empty pot on its coals until it becomes hot and its copper glows. Then its impurity will
melt within; its
rust will be consumed.
Javan,
Tubal, and
Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of
brass in thy market.
When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou
didst break, and
rend all their shoulder: and when they
leaned upon thee, thou
brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.
When Israel took hold of you with their hands, you
splintered,
tearing all their shoulders; when they
leaned on you, you broke, and their backs were
wrenched.
Behold, the Assyrian was a
cedar in
Lebanon with fair
branches, and with a shadowing
shroud, and of an high
stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.
Look at Assyria, a
cedar in
Lebanon, with beautiful
branches that shaded the forest. It towered on high; its top was among the clouds.
Therefore his height was
exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his
branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.
Therefore it towered higher than all the trees of the field. Its branches multiplied, and its boughs grew long as it spread them out because of the abundant waters.
All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
All the birds of the air nested in its branches, and all the beasts of the field gave birth beneath its boughs; all the great nations lived in its shade.
Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.
It was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its limbs, for its roots extended to abundant waters.
The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the
fir trees were not like his boughs, and the
chesnut trees were not like his
branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.
The cedars in the garden of God could not rival it; the
cypresses could not compare with its
branches, nor the plane trees
match its boughs. No tree in the garden of God could compare with its beauty.
I have made him fair by the multitude of his
branches: so that all the trees of
Eden, that were in the garden of God,
envied him.
I made it beautiful with its many
branches, the
envy of all the trees of
Eden, which were in the garden of God.’
And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
Foreigners, the most
ruthless of the nations, cut it down and left it. Its
branches have fallen on the mountains and in every valley; its boughs lay broken in all the earth’s ravines. And all the peoples of the earth left its shade and abandoned it.
Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
All the birds of the air nested on its fallen trunk, and all the beasts of the field lived among its boughs.
Yea, I will make many people
amazed at thee, and their kings shall be
horribly afraid for thee, when I shall
brandish my sword before them; and they shall
tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall.
I will cause many peoples to be
appalled over you, and their kings will
shudder in
horror because of you when I
brandish My sword before them. On the day of your
downfall each of them will
tremble every moment for his life.’
But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.
But you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and bear fruit for My people Israel, for they will soon come home.
And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and
horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with all your army—your horses, your
horsemen in full
armor, and a great company armed with shields and bucklers, all
brandishing their swords.
And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
So He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze. He was standing in the
gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand.
In the second year of his reign,
Nebuchadnezzar had dreams that troubled his spirit, and sleep escaped him.
This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his
belly and his thighs of
brass,
The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its
belly and thighs were bronze,
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which
smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and
brake them to pieces.
As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and
crushed them.
Then was the iron, the clay, the
brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the
chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that
smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Then the iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold were
shattered and became like
chaff on the
threshing floor in summer. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that had struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
But after you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule the whole earth.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it
brake in pieces the iron, the
brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it
shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is
trustworthy.”
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
He
cried aloud, and said thus,
Hew down the tree, and cut off his
branches,
shake off his leaves, and
scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his
branches:
He called out in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and
chop off its
branches; strip off its leaves and
scatter its fruit. Let the beasts
flee from under it, and the birds from its
branches.
Nevertheless leave the
stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and
brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
But leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven and
graze with the beasts on the grass of the earth.
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose
branches the fowls of the heaven had their
habitation:
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
