broken off. Women come and use them for

precept upon
precept,
precept upon
precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be
broken, and
snared, and taken.

stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.

Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be
sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

highways lie waste, the

Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be

wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be
broken.

broken reed, on Egypt;
whereon if a man
lean, it will go into his hand, and
pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

splintered reed of a staff that will
pierce the hand of
anyone who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

scorn of men; do not be
broken by their insults.

broken,” says the LORD, who has
compassion on you.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath
anointed me to
preach good
tidings unto the
meek; he hath sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has
anointed Me to
preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the
captives and freedom to the prisoners,
Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall
howl for
vexation of spirit.

glad heart, but you will cry out with a heavy heart and
wail with a
broken spirit.

forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and
hewed them out cisterns,
broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

dug their own cisterns—
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

tore off your chains, saying, ‘I will not serve!’ Indeed, on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down as a

beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were
broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether
broken the yoke, and
burst the bonds.
I will go to the powerful and speak to them. Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.” But they too, with one
accord, had
broken the yoke and
torn off the chains.
For the
hurt of the daughter of my people am I
hurt; I am black;
astonishment hath taken hold on me.
For the
brokenness of the daughter of my people I am
crushed. I
mourn;
horror has gripped me.
Woe is me for my
hurt! my wound is
grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
Woe to me because of my
brokenness; my wound is
grievous! But I said, “This is truly my sickness, and I must bear it.”
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my cords are
broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have
broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are
broken.

roar He will set it on fire, and its branches will be consumed.

broken with a great breach, with a very
grievous blow.

shattered by a
crushing blow, a severely
grievous wound.
Is this man Coniah a
despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Is this man Coniah a
despised and
shattered pot, a
jar that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants
hurled out and cast into a land they do not know?
Mine heart within me is
broken because of the prophets; all my bones
shake; I am like a
drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his
holiness.
As for the prophets: My heart is
broken within me, and all my bones
tremble. I have become like a
drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of His holy words.

broken down:
howl and cry; and tell ye it in
Arnon, that Moab is
spoiled,
Moab is put to shame, for it has been
shattered.
Wail and cry out! Declare by the
Arnon that Moab is destroyed.
The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.
The horn of Moab has been cut off, and his arm is broken,” declares the LORD.

lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have

mourning; for I have
shattered Moab like an unwanted
jar,” declares the LORD.
They shall
howl, saying, How is it
broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a
derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
“How
shattered it is! How they
wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! Moab has become an object of
ridicule and
horror to all those around him.”
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is
broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are
broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are
broken in pieces.’
Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath
devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath
broken his bones.
Israel is a scattered flock,
chased away by lions. The first to
devour him was the king of Assyria; the last to
crush his bones was
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”

asunder and
broken! how is Babylon become a
desolation among the nations!

broken and
shattered! What a

The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set
ablaze, the bars of her gates are
broken.
Because the
spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is
broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.
For a destroyer is coming against her— against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be
broken, for the LORD is a God of
retribution; He will repay in full.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly
broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the
folk in the fire, and they shall be
weary.

exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are
wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.
My transgressions are bound into a yoke,
knit together by His hand; they are
draped over my neck, and the Lord has
broken my strength. He has delivered me into the hands of those I cannot
withstand.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
He has worn away my flesh and skin; He has
shattered my bones.

trampled me in the dust.
And your altars shall be
desolate, and your images shall be
broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.
Your altars will be
demolished and your incense altars will be
smashed; and I will cast down your slain before your idols.
In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be
desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made
desolate, and your idols may be
broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.
Wherever you live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be
demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and
desecrated, your idols
smashed and
obliterated, your incense altars cut down, and your works
blotted out.
And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am
broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath
despised, and my covenant that he hath
broken, even it will I

despised and My covenant that he broke.
But she was
plucked up in
fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were
broken and
withered; the fire consumed them.
But it was uprooted in
fury, cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branches were
stripped off and they
withered; the fire consumed them.
Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness
sigh before their eyes.
But you, son of man,
groan!
Groan before their eyes with a
broken heart and bitter grief.
Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,
Aha, she is
broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be
replenished, now she is laid waste:

Aha! The gate to the nations is
broken; it has
swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will be filled,’

oarsmen have brought you
onto the high seas, but the east wind will
shatter you in the heart of the sea.

broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy
merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.
Now you are
shattered by the seas in the depths of the waters; your
merchandise and the people among you have gone down with you.
And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in
Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be
broken down.

torn down.
Son of man, I have
broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be
healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword.
“Son of man, I have
broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. See, it has not been bound up for
healing, or
splinted for strength to hold the sword.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.
And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
Foreigners, the most
ruthless of the nations, cut it down and left it. Its branches have fallen on the mountains and in every valley; its boughs lay
broken in all the earth’s ravines. And all the peoples of the earth left its shade and abandoned it.
Yea, thou shalt be
broken in the midst of the
uncircumcised, and shalt lie with them that are slain with the sword.
The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye
healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was
broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
You have not strengthened the weak,
healed the sick, bound up the injured, brought back the strays, or searched for the lost. Instead, you have ruled them with violence and cruelty.
I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was
broken, and will
strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.
I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the
broken, and
strengthen the weak; but the
sleek and strong I will destroy. I will
shepherd them with justice.’
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
The trees of the field will give their fruit, and the land will yield its produce; My flock will be secure in their land. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have
broken the bars of their yoke and delivered them from the hands that
enslaved them.
In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers,
uncircumcised in heart, and
uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to
pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have
broken my covenant because of all your abominations.
In addition to all your other abominations, you brought in foreigners
uncircumcised in both heart and flesh to occupy My sanctuary; you
defiled My temple when you offered My food—the fat and the blood; you broke My covenant.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold,
broken to pieces together, and became like the
chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that
smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Then the iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold were
shattered and became like
chaff on the
threshing floor in summer. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that had struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle.
Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
Thus the goat became very great, but at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off, and four prominent horns came up in its place, pointing toward the four winds of heaven.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
The four horns that replaced the broken one represent four kingdoms that will rise from that nation, but will not have the same power.
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to
prosper in his hand; and he shall
magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be
broken without hand.
Through his craft and by his hand, he will cause
deceit to
prosper, and in his own mind he will make himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be
broken off, but not by human hands.
And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be
broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his
posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be
plucked up, even for others beside those.
But as soon as he is established, his kingdom will be
broken up and
parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the authority with which he ruled, because his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.
And with the arms of a flood shall they be
overflown from before him, and shall be
broken;
yea, also the prince of the covenant.
Then a flood of forces will be swept away before him and destroyed, along with a prince of the covenant.
Ephraim is
oppressed and
broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.
Ephraim is
oppressed,
crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow worthless idols.
For from Israel was it also: the
workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the
calf of Samaria shall be
broken in pieces.
For this thing is from Israel— a
craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be
broken to pieces, that
calf of Samaria.
The seed is
rotten under their clods, the garners are laid
desolate, the barns are
broken down; for the corn is
withered.
The seeds lie
shriveled beneath the clods; the storehouses are in ruins; the
granaries are
broken down, for the grain has
withered away.
And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

broken walls, each one straight
ahead of her, and you will be cast out toward Harmon,” declares the LORD.

The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate, and go out by it. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD as their leader.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem, and the bow of war will be
broken. Then He will
proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion will extend from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
It was
revoked on that day, and so the
afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
For, lo, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor
heal that that is
broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and
tear their claws in pieces.
For behold, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land who will neither care for the lost, nor seek the young, nor
heal the
broken, nor
sustain the healthy, but he will
devour the flesh of the choice sheep and
tear off their
hooves.
Judah hath dealt
treacherously, and an
abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has
broken faith; an
abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt
treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Yet you ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of
broken pieces that were left over.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up seven
basketfuls of
broken pieces that were left over.

broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be
crushed.”
But know this, that if the
goodman of the house had known in what watch the
thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be
broken up.
But understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the
thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be
broken into.
And when they could not come
nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had
broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the
palsy lay.

paralytic on his mat.
Because that he had been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had been
plucked asunder by him, and the
fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man
tame him.

shackles, he had
broken the chains and
shattered the
shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to
subdue him.
And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of
broken pieces of bread and fish.

The people
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up seven
basketfuls of
broken pieces that were left over.

brake the five
loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
When I broke the five
loaves for the five thousand, how many
basketfuls of
broken pieces did you collect?” “Twelve,” they answered.
And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
“And when I broke the seven
loaves for the four thousand, how many
basketfuls of
broken pieces did you collect?” “Seven,” they said.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to
heal the
brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are
bruised,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has
anointed Me to
preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to
proclaim liberty to the
captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the
oppressed,
(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For
oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in
