portico of the temple, its

Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of
Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses
withal:
three thousand talents of gold (the gold of
Ophir) and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the
buildings,

And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to
build the palace, for the which I have made provision.

build himself a house to live in.
Behold, I
build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to
build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
The house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.
But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?
Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
to prepare for me timber in abundance, because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.

instructed for the
building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to
build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.

But the LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to
build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
And Baalath, and all the store cities that Solomon had, and all the
chariot cities, and the cities of the
horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to
build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and throughout all the land of his dominion.
as well as Baalath, all the store cities that belonged to Solomon, and all the cities for his
chariots and horses—whatever he desired to
build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the land of his dominion.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us
build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us
build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And it came to pass, when
Baasha heard it, that he left off
building of
Ramah, and let his work cease.

Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away the stones of

building. And with these materials he built up Geba and
Mizpah.

Even to the artificers and
builders gave they it, to
buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
They also gave money to the carpenters and
builders to
buy dressed stone, as well as timbers for couplings and beams for the
buildings that the kings of Judah had allowed to
deteriorate.
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD,
Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to
build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may the LORD his God be with him, and may he go up.’”
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may his God be with him, and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah and
build the house of the LORD, the God of Israel; He is the God who is in Jerusalem.
Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.
So the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites—
everyone whose spirit God had
stirred—prepared to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and
builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings
thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests, along with
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates, began to
build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.
And when the
builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites the sons of
Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the
ordinance of David king of Israel.
When the
builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of
Asaph) with cymbals, took their positions to praise the LORD, as David king of Israel had prescribed.
Now when the
adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity
builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;
When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were building a temple for the LORD, the God of Israel,
Then they came to
Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us
build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up
hither.
they approached
Zerubbabel and the heads of the families, saying, “Let us
build with you because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the time of King Esar-haddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”
But
Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to
build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will
build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
But
Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the other heads of the families of Israel replied, “You have no part with us in
building a house for our God, since we alone must
build it for the LORD, the God of Israel, as Cyrus king of Persia has commanded us.”
Then the people of the land
weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in
building,
Then the people of the land set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to build.
Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem,
building the
rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
Let it be known to the king that the Jews who came from you to us have returned to Jerusalem. And they are rebuilding that
rebellious and wicked city, restoring its walls, and repairing its foundations.
Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be
builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay
toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt
endamage the revenue of the kings.
Let it now be known to the king that if that city is rebuilt and its walls are restored, they will not pay tribute, duty, or
toll, and the royal treasury will suffer.
We
certify the king that, if this city be
builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
We
advise the king that if this city is rebuilt and its walls are restored, you will have no dominion west of the Euphrates.
Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.
Now, therefore, issue an order for these men to stop, so that this city will not be rebuilt until I so order.
Then rose up
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to
build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
Then
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak rose up and began to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them, helping them.
At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
At that time Tattenai the governor of the region west of the Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their associates went to the Jews and asked, “Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and restore this structure?”
Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
They also asked, “What are the names of the men who are constructing this building?”
Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of
Judea, to the house of the great God, which is
builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.
Let it be known to the king that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God. The people are rebuilding it with large stones, and placing timbers in the walls. This work is being carried out
diligently and is
prospering in their hands.
Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
So we questioned the elders and asked, “Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and restore this structure?”
And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.
And this is the answer they returned: “We are servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and completed.
But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.
In his first year, however, Cyrus king of Babylon issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.
And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
and
instructed, ‘Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.’
Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been under construction, but it has not yet been completed.”
Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s
treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to
build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
Now, therefore, if it pleases the king, let a search be made of the royal
archives in Babylon to see if King Cyrus did indeed issue a decree to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision in this matter.
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be
builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
threescore cubits;
In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.
Leave this work on the house of God alone. Let the governor and elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the
building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the river,
forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.
I
hereby decree what you must do for these elders of the Jews who are rebuilding this house of God: The cost is to be paid in full to these men from the royal treasury out of the taxes of the provinces west of the Euphrates, so that the work will not be hindered.
And the elders of the Jews
builded, and they
prospered through the
prophesying of
Haggai the prophet and
Zechariah the son of
Iddo. And they
builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and
Darius, and
Artaxerxes king of Persia.
And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’
sepulchres, that I may
build it.
and answered the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city where my fathers are buried, so that I may rebuild it.”
Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned down. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
I also told them about the
gracious hand of my God upon me, and what the king had said to me. “Let us start rebuilding,” they replied, and they set their hands to this good work.
Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will
prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and
build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor
memorial, in Jerusalem.
So I answered them and said, “The God of heaven is the One who will grant us success. We, His servants, will start rebuilding, but you have no portion, right, or claim in Jerusalem.”
Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they
builded the sheep gate; they
sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they
sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.
At the Sheep Gate, Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests began rebuilding. They dedicated it and
installed its doors. After
building as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel, they dedicated the wall.
And next unto him
builded the men of
Jericho. And next to them
builded Zaccur the son of Imri.
The men of
Jericho built next to Eliashib, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.
But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.
The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and
installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
But the dung gate repaired Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Beth-haccerem; he build it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.
The Dung Gate was repaired by Malchijah son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem. He rebuilt it and
installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
Now
Tobiah the
Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they
build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
Then
Tobiah the
Ammonite, who was beside him, said, “If even a fox were to
climb up on what they are
building, it would break down their wall of stones!”
And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be
blotted out from before thee: for they have
provoked thee to anger before the
builders.
Do not cover up their iniquity or let their sin be
blotted out from Your sight, for they have
provoked the
builders.
And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much
rubbish; so that we are not able to
build the wall.
Meanwhile, the people of Judah said: “The strength of the laborer fails, and there is so much
rubble that we will never be able to rebuild the wall.”
They which
builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that
laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
who were rebuilding the wall. The laborers who carried materials worked with one hand and held a weapon with the other.
For the
builders, every one had his sword
girded by his side, and so
builded. And he that sounded the
trumpet was by me.
And each of the
builders worked with his sword
strapped at his side. But the
trumpeter stayed beside me.
Now it came to pass, when
Sanballat, and
Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had
builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
When
Sanballat,
Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and not a
gap was left—though to that time I had not yet
installed the doors in the gates—
Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to
rebel: for which cause thou
buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.
that read: “It is reported among the nations—and Geshem agrees—that you and the Jews are
plotting to revolt, and this is why you are
building the wall. According to these reports, you are to become their king,
Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
Now the city was large and
spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt.
Also from the house of
Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had
builded them villages round about Jerusalem.
from Beth-
gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth, for they had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem.
His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them
build a
gallows fifty cubits high, and ask the king in the morning to have
Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the
banquet with the king and enjoy
yourself.” The advice pleased
Haman, and he had the
gallows constructed.
Because he hath
oppressed and hath
forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he
builded not;
He
buildeth his house as a
moth, and as a
booth that the keeper maketh.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they
push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
The
rabble arises at my right; they lay snares for my feet and
build siege ramps against me.
Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
Since they show no regard for the works of the LORD or what His hands have done, He will
tear them down and never rebuild them.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto
Zion:
build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
In Your good pleasure, cause
Zion to
prosper;
build up the walls of Jerusalem.
For God will save
Zion, and will
build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
For God will save
Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it.
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and
build up thy throne to all generations.
Selah.
‘I will establish your offspring
forever and
build up your throne for all generations.’”
Selah When the LORD shall
build up
Zion, he shall appear in his glory.
For the LORD will rebuild
Zion; He has appeared in His glory.
Where the birds make their nests: as for the
stork, the
fir trees are her house.
where the birds
build their nests; the
stork makes her home in the
cypresses.
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
Jerusalem is built up as a city united together,
Except the LORD
build the house, they labour in vain that
build it: except the LORD keep the city, the
watchman waketh but in vain.
Unless the LORD
builds the house, its
builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its
watchmen stand guard in vain.
The LORD
doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the exiles of Israel.
Wisdom hath
builded her house, she hath
hewn out her seven pillars:
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.
Every wise woman
buildeth her house: but the
foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Every wise woman
builds her house, but a
foolish one tears it down with her own hands.
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
By wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established;
Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for
thyself in the field; and afterwards
build thine house.
Complete your outdoor work and prepare your field; after that, you may build your house.
I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:
I expanded my pursuits. I built houses and planted vineyards for myself.
A time to kill, and a time to
heal; a time to break down, and a time to
build up;
a time to kill and a time to
heal, a time to break down and a time to
build,
By much
slothfulness the
building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
Through
laziness the roof caves in, and in the hands of the idle, the house leaks.
Thy neck is like the tower of David
builded for an armoury,
whereon there
hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.
Your neck is like the tower of David, built with rows of stones; on it
hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.
If she be a wall, we will
build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of
cedar.
If she is a wall, we will
build a tower of silver upon her. If she is a door, we will
enclose her with panels of
cedar.
The bricks are fallen down, but we will
build with
hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
“The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with finished stone; the sycamores have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or
build up a siege
ramp against it.
I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall
build my city, and he shall let go my
captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will raise up Cyrus in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild My city and set My exiles free, but not for payment or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.”
Thy children shall make
haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.
Your
builders hasten back; your destroyers and wreckers depart from you.
And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
And it will be said, “
Build it up,
build it up, prepare the way, take every
obstacle out of the way of My people.”
