captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and
bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

mourned her father and mother, you may have relations with her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.

beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into

captivity, and have
compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations,

bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their
captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their
captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,

Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the

Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their associates including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the

Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great
trespass unto this day; and for our
iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to
captivity, and to a
spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
From the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our
iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and put to the sword and
captivity, to
pillage and
humiliation, as we are this day.
And they made
proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the

So the exiles did as proposed.
Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, each of them identified by name, to represent their families. On the first day of the tenth month they
launched the investigation,
That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah. So I questioned them about the
remnant of the Jews who had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
And they said unto me, The
remnant that are left of the
captivity there in the province are in great
affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
And they told me, “The
remnant who survived the exile are there in the province, in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
Hear, O our God; for we are
despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of
captivity:
Hear us, O God, for we are
despised. Turn their
scorn back upon their own heads, and let them be taken as
plunder to a land of
captivity.
These are the children of the province, that went up out of the
captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by
Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the
captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great
gladness.
The whole assembly who had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of
Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated like this. And there was great
rejoicing.
Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the
captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom

captive with Jeconiah king of Judah.

Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of
Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the
captivity of his people, Jacob shall
rejoice, and Israel shall be
glad.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come from
Zion! When the LORD restores His
captive people, let Jacob
rejoice, let Israel be
glad!
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of
Zion! When God bringeth back the
captivity of his people, Jacob shall
rejoice, and Israel shall be
glad.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come from
Zion! When God restores His
captive people, let Jacob
rejoice, let Israel be
glad!
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led
captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men;
yea, for the
rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
You have ascended on high; You have led
captives away. You have received gifts from men, even from the
rebellious, that the LORD God may dwell there.
And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.
He delivered His strength to
captivity, and His
splendor to the hand of the
adversary.
LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
You showed favor to Your land, O LORD; You restored Jacob from captivity.
When the LORD turned again the
captivity of
Zion, we were like them that dream.
When the LORD restored the
captives of
Zion, we were like dreamers.
Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.
Restore our
captives, O LORD, like streams in the Negev.
That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no
complaining in our streets.
Our oxen will bear great loads. There will be no breach in the walls, no going into
captivity, and no cry of
lament in our streets.
Therefore my people are gone into
captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are
famished, and their multitude dried up with
thirst.
Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.
Look, O mighty man! The LORD is about to
shake you violently. He will take hold of you,
They
stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into
captivity.
The gods cower; they
crouch together, unable to
relieve the burden; but they themselves go into
captivity.
And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee,
Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the
captivity, to the
captivity.
If they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘Those destined for death, to death; those destined for the sword, to the sword; those destined for famine, to famine; and those destined for captivity, to captivity.’
And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into
captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast
prophesied lies.
And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house, will go into
captivity. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried—you and all your friends to whom you have
prophesied these lies.’”
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into
captivity: surely then shalt thou be
ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
The wind will drive away all your
shepherds, and your lovers will go into
captivity. Then you will be
ashamed and
humiliated because of all your wickedness.
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your
captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places
whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away
captive.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;
this is what the LORD says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile—
Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:
So hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
And of them shall be taken up a
curse by all the
captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like
Zedekiah and like
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire;
Because of them, all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will use this
curse: ‘May the LORD make you like
Zedekiah and
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire!’
For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
For he has sent to us in Babylon, claiming: Since the exile will be
lengthy, build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
Send to all them of the
captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath
prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:
“Send a message telling all the exiles what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah has
prophesied to you—though I did not send him—and has made you trust in a lie,
For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from
afar, and thy seed from the land of their
captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
Therefore all they that
devour thee shall be
devoured; and all thine
adversaries, every one of them, shall go into
captivity; and they that
spoil thee shall be a
spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the
captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own
heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will stand in its rightful place.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their
captivity; The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from
captivity, they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD
bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
Men shall
buy fields for money, and
subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their
captivity to return, saith the LORD.
Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah—the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev—because I will restore them from captivity, declares the LORD.”
And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
I will restore Judah and Israel from captivity and will rebuild them as in former times.
The voice of joy, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the
captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.
the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing
thank offerings into the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give
thanks to the LORD of Hosts, for the LORD is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.’ For I will restore the land from
captivity as in former times, says the LORD.
Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.
then I would also
reject the descendants of Jacob and of My servant David, so as not to take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore them from
captivity and will have
compassion on them.”
And when he cometh, he shall
smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for
captivity to
captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.
He will come and strike down the land of Egypt, bringing death to those destined for death, captivity to those destined for captivity, and the sword to those destined for the sword.
O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish
thyself to go into
captivity: for
Noph shall be waste and
desolate without an inhabitant.
Pack your bags for exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For
Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their
captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and
Chemosh shall go forth into
captivity with his priests and his princes together.
Because you trust in your works and treasures, you too will be captured, and
Chemosh will go into exile with his priests and officials.
Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his
lees, and hath not been
emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into
captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his
scent is not changed.
Moab has been at ease from youth, settled like wine on its
dregs; he has not been poured from vessel to vessel or gone into exile. So his
flavor has remained the same, and his
aroma is unchanged.
Woe to you, O Moab! The people of
Chemosh have perished; for your sons have been taken into exile and your daughters have gone into
captivity.
Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
Yet in the latter days I will restore Moab from captivity,” declares the LORD. Here ends the judgment on Moab.
Howl, O
Heshbon, for
Ai is
spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
gird you with
sackcloth;
lament, and run to and
fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into
captivity, and his priests and his princes together.
Wail, O
Heshbon, for
Ai has been destroyed; cry out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on
sackcloth and
mourn; run back and forth within your walls, for Milcom will go into exile together with his priests and officials.
And afterward I will bring again the
captivity of the children of
Ammon, saith the LORD.
Yet afterward I will restore the
Ammonites from
captivity,” declares the LORD.
But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the
captivity of
Elam, saith the LORD.
“Yet in the last days, I will restore
Elam from
captivity,” declares the LORD.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the
captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
Judah is gone into
captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
Her
adversaries are the chief, her enemies
prosper; for the LORD hath
afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into
captivity before the enemy.
Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. For the LORD has brought her grief because of her many transgressions. Her children have gone away as
captives before the enemy.
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against His command.
Listen, all you people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into
captivity.
Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy
captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your
captivity. The burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of
Zion; he will no more carry thee away into
captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of
Edom; he will discover thy sins.
O Daughter of
Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not
prolong your exile. But He will
punish your iniquity, O Daughter of
Edom; He will
expose your sins.
In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king
Jehoiachin’s
captivity,
On the fifth day of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King
Jehoiachin—
And go, get thee to them of the
captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
Then I came to them of the
captivity at Tel-
abib, that dwelt by the river of
Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there
astonished among them seven days.
I came to the exiles at Tel-
abib who dwelt by the River Kebar. And for seven days I sat where they sat and remained there among them,
overwhelmed.
Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into
Chaldea, to them of the
captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.
And the Spirit lifted me up and carried me back to
Chaldea, to the exiles in the vision given by the Spirit of God. After the vision had gone up from me,
Then I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the LORD had shewed me.
I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity.
Bring out your
baggage for exile by day, as they watch. Then in the evening, as they watch, go out like those who go into exile.
And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for
captivity, and in the even I
digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the
twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.
So I did as I was commanded. I brought out my bags for exile by day, and in the evening I
dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings out at
dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.
You are to say, ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as it happened here, so will it be done to them; they will go into exile as
captives.
When I shall bring again their
captivity, the
captivity of
Sodom and her daughters, and the
captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the
captivity of thy
captives in the midst of them:
But I will restore
Sodom and her daughters from
captivity, as well as Samaria and her daughters. And I will restore you along with them.
And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.
With hooks they
caged him and brought him to the king of Babylon. They brought him into
captivity so that his
roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.
And say unto the
Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou saidst,
Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was
profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was
desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into
captivity;
Tell the
Ammonites to hear the word of the Lord GOD, for this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you
exclaimed, “
Aha!” when My sanctuary was
profaned, when the land of Israel was laid waste, and when the house of Judah went into exile,
And I will bring again the
captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their
habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom.
I will restore Egypt from captivity and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom.
The young men of
Aven and of
Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword: and these cities shall go into
captivity.
The young men of On and
Pi-beseth will fall by the sword, and those cities will go into
captivity.
At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be
darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the
pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into
captivity.
The day will be
darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yoke of Egypt and her proud strength comes to an end. A cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into
captivity.
And it came to pass in the
twelfth year of our
captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is
smitten.
In the
twelfth year of our exile, on the fifth day of the tenth month, a
fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken!”
And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into
captivity for their iniquity: because they
trespassed against me, therefore
hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I
hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the
captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be
jealous for my holy name;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from
captivity and will have
compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be
jealous for My holy name.
Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations.
In the five and
twentieth year of our
captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the
fourteenth year after that the city was
smitten, in the
selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month—in the
fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been struck down—on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He took me there.
Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the
captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of
Jewry?
So Daniel was brought before the king, who asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
Then they told the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, shows no regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed. He still makes his petition three times a day.”
And they that understand among the people shall
instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by
captivity, and by
spoil, many days.
Those with insight will
instruct many, though for a time they will fall by sword or flame, or be captured or
plundered.
Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
Also for you, O Judah, a harvest is appointed, when I restore My people from captivity.
