And David said, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to
comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of
Ammon to Hanun, to
comfort him.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when David’s servants arrived in the land of the
Ammonites to
console him,
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent
comforters unto thee? are not his servants
come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you
comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have not his servants
come to you to
explore the land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
And the children of
Ammon came out, and put the battle in
array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were
come were by themselves in the field.
The
Ammonites marched out and
arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance to the city, while the kings who had
come stayed by themselves in the open country.
And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of
Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in
array against the children of
Ammon.
And he placed the rest of the forces under the
command of his brother
Abishai, who
arrayed them against the
Ammonites.
And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of
Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
“If the Arameans are too strong for me,” said
Joab, “then you will
come to my
rescue. And if the
Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will
come to your
rescue.
And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, with Shophach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in
chariots, and forty thousand
footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven thousand of their charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also killed Shophach the commander of their army.
And David said to
Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
So David said to
Joab and the
commanders of the troops, “Go and count the Israelites from
Beersheba to
Dan and bring me a report, so that I may know their number.”
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was
abominable to
Joab.
But
Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the count, because the king’s
command was
detestable to him.
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he
smote Israel.
This command was also evil in the sight of God; so He struck Israel.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that
commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
Then the angel of the LORD
commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then the angel of the LORD ordered
Gad to tell David to go up and build an altar to the LORD on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And the LORD
commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the LORD spoke to the angel, who put his sword back into its
sheath.
And David
commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to
hew wrought stones to build the house of God.
So David gave orders to gather the foreigners in the land of Israel, from whom he appointed stonecutters to prepare finished stones for building the house of God.
Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD
commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,
Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon:
For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
For David had said, “The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people and has
come to dwell in Jerusalem
forever.
And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:
Whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, they were to serve regularly before the LORD in the numbers prescribed for them.
These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
This was their appointed order for service when they entered the house of the LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their
forefather Aaron, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had
commanded him.
Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of
Asaph, and of Heman, and of
Jeduthun, who should
prophesy with harps, with
psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
Additionally, David and the
commanders of the army set apart some of the sons of
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun to
prophesy with the
accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. The following is the list of the men who performed this service:
Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.
This Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all the
treasuries for the things dedicated by King David, by the heads of families who were the
commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and by the army
commanders.
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the
commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on
rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
Of the children of
Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.
He was a
descendant of
Perez and chief of all the army
commanders for the first month.
The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The fourth captain for the fourth month was
Asahel the brother of
Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The fourth, for the fourth month, was
Joab’s brother
Asahel, and his son Zebadiah was
commander after him. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
And
Ahithophel was the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s
companion:
And after
Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and
Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was
Joab.
Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then by
Abiathar.
Joab was the
commander of the king’s army.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the
companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the
commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of
valor.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My
commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the
commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the
commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of
workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy
commandment.
The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of every skill will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your
command.”
Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,
Then the leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
Both riches and honor
come from You, and You are the ruler over all. In Your hands are power and might to
exalt and give strength to all.
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You.
O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
O LORD our God, from Your hand comes all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy Name, and all of it belongs to You.
And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy
commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep and carry out all Your commandments, decrees, and statutes, and to build Your palace for which I have made provision.”
Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.
Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every leader in all Israel—the heads of the families.
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
Now grant me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may lead this people. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as
plenteous as stones, and
cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the
vale for abundance.
The king made silver and gold as
common in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar as abundant as
sycamore in the foothills.
Also he made a
molten sea of ten cubits from
brim to
brim, round in
compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did
compass it round about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from
rim to
rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference.
And under it was the
similitude of oxen, which did
compass it round about: ten in a
cubit,
compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.
Below the
rim, figures of oxen
encircled it, ten per
cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was
completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had
come out of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were
come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were
sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath
come before thine altar in this house;
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he
comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
When famine or plague
comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may
come,
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they
come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the Israelites saw the fire
coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.”
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I
command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I
command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people,
And as for thee, if thou
wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have
commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
And as for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing all I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,
But if ye turn away, and
forsake my statutes and my
commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
But if you turn away and
forsake the statutes and
commandments I have set before you, and if you go off to serve and worship other gods,
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his
chariots and
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the
commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath
come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
Even after a certain rate every day, offering according to the
commandment of Moses, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts, three times in the year, even in the feast of
unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles.
He observed the daily requirement for offerings according to the
commandment of Moses for Sabbaths, New Moons, and the three annual appointed feasts—the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles.
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God
commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.
They did not turn aside from the king’s
command regarding the priests or the Levites or any matter concerning the
treasuries.
Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.
Thus all the work of Solomon was carried out, from the day the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was completed.
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great
company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was
come to Solomon, she
communed with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke with him about all that was on her mind.
And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.
The king made silver as
common in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar as abundant as
sycamore in the foothills.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king.
And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
Rehoboam answered, “
Come back to me in three days.” So the people departed.
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam on the third day, as the king
bade, saying,
Come again to me on the third day.
After three days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the king had said, “
Come back to me on the third day.”
And when
Rehoboam was
come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam.
When
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the house of Judah and Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam.
Instead of which king
Rehoboam made shields of brass, and
committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and
committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
Because
Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and He did not destroy him
completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Judah.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
Now
Jeroboam had sent troops around to
ambush from the rear, so that while he was in front of Judah, the
ambush was behind them.
And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
He commanded the people of Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandments.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have
come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had
come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
In the six and
thirtieth year of the reign of
Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built
Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or
come in to
Asa king of Judah.
In the thirty-sixth year of
Asa’s reign,
Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified
Ramah to prevent
anyone from leaving or entering the territory of
Asa king of Judah.
But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the
commanders of thousands: Adnah the
commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of
valor;
And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and
fourscore thousand.
next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
And when he was
come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and
prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they will be given into your hand.”
Now the king of Syria had
commanded the captains of the
chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his
chariot commanders, “Do not fight with
anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
And it came to pass, when the captains of the
chariots saw
Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they
compassed about him to fight: but
Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
When the
chariot commanders saw
Jehoshaphat, they said, “This is the king of Israel!” So they turned to fight against him, but
Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him.
For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the
chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.
And when the
chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
He commanded them, saying, “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the LORD.
And what cause
soever shall
come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and
commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath
come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every dispute that
comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law,
commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will not
incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not
come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not
incur guilt.
Then there came some that told
Jehoshaphat, saying, There
cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
Then some men came and told
Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is
coming against you from
Edom, from beyond the Sea; they are already in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi).
If, when evil
cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
Behold, I say, how they reward us, to
come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to
inherit.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.
O our God,
wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great
company that
cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
To
morrow go ye down against them: behold, they
come up by the
cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the
brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
Tomorrow you are to march down against them. You will see them
coming up the
Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley facing the Wilderness of Jeruel.
And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of
Ammon, Moab, and mount
Seir, which were
come against Judah; and they were
smitten.
The moment they began their shouts and praises, the LORD set ambushes against the men of
Ammon, Moab, and Mount
Seir who had
come against Judah, and they were defeated.
Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his
chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and
smote the Edomites which
compassed him in, and the captains of the
chariots.
So Jehoram crossed into
Edom with his officers and all his
chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his
chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night.
Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to
commit fornication, and
compelled Judah
thereto.
Jehoram had also built high places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves and had led Judah
astray.
And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy
bowels, until thy
bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
And day after day you
yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a disease of your
bowels, until it causes your
bowels to
come out.’”
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah his youngest son king in his
stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So
Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
Then the people of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah, the youngest son of Jehoram, king in his place, since the raiders who had
come into the camp with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. So
Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
And the destruction of
Ahaziah was of God by
coming to
Joram: for when he was
come, he went out with Jehoram against
Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had
anointed to cut off the house of
Ahab.
And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds,
Azariah the son of Jeroham, and
Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and
Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada strengthened himself and made a covenant with the
commanders of hundreds—with
Azariah son of Jeroham,
Ishmael son of Jehohanan,
Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zichri.
This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be
porters of the doors;
This is what you are to do: A third of you priests and Levites who come on duty on the Sabbath shall keep watch at the doors,
But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
No one is to enter the house of the LORD except the priests and those Levites who serve; they may enter because they are consecrated, but all the people are to obey the requirement of the LORD.
And the Levites shall
compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and
whosoever else
cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he
cometh in, and when he goeth out.
The Levites must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who enters the temple must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
