The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity
tossed to and
fro of them that seek death.
Making a
fortune by a lying tongue is a
vanishing mist, a deadly pursuit.
Take away the
dross from the silver, and there shall come
forth a vessel for the finer.
Remove the
dross from the silver, and a vessel for a
silversmith will come
forth.
Put not
forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Do not
exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;
Go not
forth hastily to
strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
do not bring
hastily to court. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your
neighbor puts you to shame?
As the north wind brings
forth rain, so a
backbiting tongue brings
angry looks.
Do not
boast about
tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
the locusts have no king, yet they all advance in formation;
Surely the
churning of milk bringeth
forth butter, and the
wringing of the nose bringeth
forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth
forth strife.
For as the
churning of milk yields butter, and the twisting of the nose draws blood, so the
stirring of anger brings
forth strife.”
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor;
yea, she reacheth
forth her hands to the
needy.
She opens her arms to the poor and reaches out her hands to the
needy.
I made me pools of water, to water
therewith the wood that bringeth
forth trees:
I built reservoirs to water my groves of flourishing trees.
As he came
forth of his mother’s
womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
As a man came from his mother’s
womb, so he will depart again, naked as he arrived. He takes nothing for his labor to carry in his hands.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come
forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings.
As dead
flies bring a
stench to the
perfumer’s oil, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as
ointment poured
forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way
forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the
shepherds’ tents.
If you do not know, O fairest of women, follow the tracks of the flock, and
graze your young goats near the tents of the
shepherds.
While the king sitteth at his table, my
spikenard sendeth
forth the smell thereof.
My beloved is like a
roe or a young
hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh
forth at the windows,
shewing himself through the
lattice.
The fig tree putteth
forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender
grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
The fig tree ripens its figs; the
blossoming vines spread their
fragrance. Arise, come away, my
darling; come away with me, my beautiful one.”
Go
forth, O ye daughters of
Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown
wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his
espousals, and in the day of the
gladness of his heart.
Come out, O daughters of
Zion, and
gaze at King Solomon, wearing the crown his mother bestowed on the day of his
wedding— the day of his heart’s
rejoicing.
Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?
Who is this who shines like the
dawn, as fair as the moon, as bright as the sun, as
majestic as the stars in
procession?
Come, my beloved, let us go
forth into the field; let us
lodge in the villages.
Come, my beloved, let us go to the
countryside; let us
spend the night among the wildflowers.
Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine
flourish, whether the tender
grape appear, and the pomegranates
bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.
Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vine has
budded, if the
blossom has opened, if the pomegranates are in
bloom— there I will give you my love.
The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.
The mandrakes send
forth a
fragrance, and at our door is every delicacy, new as well as old, that I have
treasured up for you, my beloved.
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness,
leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee
forth: there she brought thee
forth that bare thee.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved? I
roused you under the apple tree; there your mother conceived you; there she
travailed and brought you
forth.
And when ye spread
forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you:
yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you multiply your prayers, I will not
listen. Your hands are covered with blood.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of
Zion shall go
forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go
forth from
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And upon every high tower, and upon every
fenced wall,
against every high tower, against every fortified wall,
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk with stretched
forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
And he
fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring
forth grapes, and it brought
forth wild grapes.
He
dug it up and cleared the stones and planted the finest vines. He built a
watchtower in the middle and
dug out a winepress as well. He waited for the
vineyard to yield good grapes, but the fruit it produced was
sour!
What could have been done more to my
vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring
forth grapes, brought it
forth wild grapes?
What more could I have done for My
vineyard than I already did for it? Why, when I expected sweet grapes, did it bring
forth sour fruit?
Therefore is the anger of the LORD
kindled against his people, and he hath stretched
forth his hand against them, and hath
smitten them: and the hills did
tremble, and their carcases were
torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the anger of the LORD burns against His people; His hand is raised against them to strike them down. The mountains
quake, and the corpses lay like refuse in the streets.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go
forth now to meet
Ahaz, thou, and
Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the
conduit of the upper
pool in the
highway of the fuller’s field;
Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son
Shear-jashub to meet
Ahaz at the end of the
aqueduct that feeds the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field,
And on all hills that shall be
digged with the
mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending
forth of oxen, and for the
treading of lesser cattle.
For fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer
traverse the hills once tilled by the
hoe; they will become places for oxen to
graze and sheep to
trample.
And there shall come
forth a rod out of the stem of
Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Then a shoot will spring up from the
stump of
Jesse, and a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be
darkened in his going
forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to
shine.
For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light.
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their
desolate houses, and
dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.
Hyenas will
howl in her
fortresses and jackals in her
luxurious palaces. Babylon’s time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.
The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
All the earth is at peace and at rest; they break out in song.
Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that
smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come
forth a
cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a
fiery flying serpent.
Do not
rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken. For a
viper will spring from the root of the
snake, and a flying serpent from its egg.
The
fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
The
fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be like the
splendor of the Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to
fortify the wall.
You counted the houses of Jerusalem and
tore them down to
strengthen the wall.
Be thou
ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I
travail not, nor bring
forth children, neither do I
nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.
Be
ashamed, O
Sidon, the
stronghold of the sea, for the sea has spoken: “I have not been in labor or given birth. I have not raised young men or brought up young women.”
For thou hast made of a city an
heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
Indeed, You have made the city a
heap of
rubble, the
fortified town a ruin. The
fortress of strangers is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.
And he shall spread
forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth
forth his hands to
swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.
He will spread out his hands within it, as a
swimmer spreads his arms to
swim. His pride will be brought low,
despite the skill of his hands.
And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.
The high-walled fortress will be brought down, cast to the ground, into the dust.
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought
forth wind; we have not wrought any
deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
We were with child; we
writhed in pain; but we gave birth to wind. We have given no salvation to the earth, nor brought any life into the world.
Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise.
Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy
dew is as the
dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your
dew is like the
dew of the morning, and the earth will bring
forth her dead.
In measure, when it shooteth
forth, thou
wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.
By warfare and exile You
contended with her and removed her with a fierce wind, as on the day the east wind blows.
Yet the defenced city shall be
desolate, and the
habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the
calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and
consume the branches thereof.
For the
fortified city lies deserted— a
homestead abandoned, a wilderness
forsaken. There the
calves graze, and there they lie down; they strip its branches bare.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great
trumpet shall be
blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
And in that day a great ram’s horn will sound, and those who were perishing in Assyria will come forth with those who were exiles in Egypt. And they will worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
From the time that it goeth
forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a
vexation only to understand the report.
As often as it passes through, it will carry you away; it will
sweep through morning after morning, by day and by night.” The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror.
This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.
This also comes from the LORD of Hosts, who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.
And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.
I will camp in a circle around you; I will
besiege you with towers and set up siege works against you.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called
forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has said to me: “Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is not
terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
Because the palaces shall be
forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the
forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild
asses, a pasture of flocks;
Blessed are ye that
sow beside all waters, that send
forth thither the feet of the ox and the
ass.
Blessed are those who
sow beside abundant waters, who let the ox and
donkey range freely.
Ye shall conceive
chaff, ye shall bring
forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall
devour you.
He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
he will dwell on the heights; the mountain
fortress will be his refuge; his food will be provided and his water
assured.
Come near, ye nations, to hear; and
hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come
forth of it.
Come near, O nations, to
listen; pay attention, O peoples. Let the earth hear, and all that fills it, the world and all that springs from it.
And thorns shall come up in her palaces,
nettles and brambles in the
fortresses thereof: and it shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her
fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a
haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
Then shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
Now it came to pass in the
fourteenth year of king
Hezekiah, that
Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
Then came
forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah,
Asaph’s son, the recorder.
Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and Joah son of
Asaph the recorder, went out to him.
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and of
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring
forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of
Ethiopia, He is come
forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to
Hezekiah, saying,
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
For out of Jerusalem shall go
forth a
remnant, and they that escape out of mount
Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
For a
remnant will go
forth from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount
Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will
accomplish this.
Then the angel of the LORD went
forth, and
smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and
fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
Then the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads
forth the
starry host by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Who has performed this and carried it out, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD—the first and the last— I am He.”
Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
“Present your case,” says the LORD. “Submit your arguments,” says the King of Jacob.
Let them bring them
forth, and
shew us what shall happen: let them
shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
“Let them come and tell us what will happen. Tell the former things, so that we may
reflect on them and know the outcome. Or
announce to us what is coming.
Behold my servant, whom I
uphold; mine
elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring
forth judgment to the Gentiles.
“Here is My Servant, whom I
uphold, My Chosen One, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will bring justice to the nations.
A
bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not
quench: he shall bring
forth judgment unto truth.
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
This is what God the LORD says— He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it:
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Behold, the former things have happened, and now I declare new things. Before they spring
forth I
proclaim them to you.”
The LORD shall go
forth as a mighty man, he shall
stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry,
yea,
roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
The LORD goes
forth like a mighty one; He stirs up His zeal like a
warrior. He shouts;
yes, He roars in triumph over His enemies:
Bring
forth the blind people that have eyes, and the
deaf that have ears.
Bring out a people who have eyes but are blind, and who have ears but are
deaf.
Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and
shew us former things? let them bring
forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
All the nations gather together and the peoples
assemble. Who among them can declare this, and
proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to
vindicate them, so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”
Which bringeth
forth the
chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are
quenched as
tow.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
This people have I formed for myself; they shall
shew forth my praise.
The people I formed for Myself will declare My praise.
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it:
shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break
forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
glorified himself in Israel.
Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this;
shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break
forth in song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel.
Thus saith the LORD, thy
redeemer, and he that formed thee from the
womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth
forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
Thus says the LORD, your
Redeemer who formed you from the
womb: “I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who by Myself spread out the earth,
Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the
skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring
forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the
skies pour down righteousness. Let the earth open up that salvation may
sprout and righteousness spring up with it; I, the LORD, have created it.
Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought
forth?
Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What have you
begotten?’ or to his mother, ‘What have you brought
forth?’”
Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come
forth out of the waters of Judah, which
swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
“
Listen to this, O house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, who have descended from the line of Judah, who
swear by the name of the LORD, who
invoke the God of Israel— but not in truth or righteousness—
I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
I
foretold the former things long ago; they came out of My mouth and I proclaimed them. Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.
Go ye
forth of Babylon,
flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Leave Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it with a
shout of joy,
proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go
forth; to them that are in darkness,
Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.
to say to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Show
yourselves.’ They will feed along the pathways, and find pasture on every barren hill.
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break
forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.
Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth; break
forth in song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and He will have
compassion on His
afflicted ones.
Thy children shall make
haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go
forth of thee.
Your builders
hasten back; your destroyers and wreckers depart from you.
My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
My righteousness draws near, My salvation is on the way, and My arms will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look for Me and wait in hope for My arm.
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched
forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the
fury of the
oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You live in terror all day long because of the
fury of the
oppressor who is bent on destruction. But where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
Among all the sons she bore, there is no one to guide her; among all the sons she brought up, there is no one to take her hand.
Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Break forth in joy, sing together, O ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem.
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break
forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who bears no children; break
forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch
forth the curtains of thine habitations:
spare not,
lengthen thy cords, and
strengthen thy stakes;
“
Enlarge the site of your tent, stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not hold back.
Lengthen your ropes and drive your stakes in deep.
For thou shalt break
forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall
inherit the Gentiles, and make the
desolate cities to be inhabited.
For you will spread out to the right and left; your descendants will dispossess the nations and inhabit the
desolate cities.
Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
Behold, I have created the
craftsman who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its task; and I have created the destroyer to
wreak havoc.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring
forth and
bud, that it may give seed to the
sower, and bread to the eater:
For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it
bud and
sprout, and providing seed to
sow and food to eat,
