King James Bible KJV Bible
Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
How can I myself alone bear your
cumbrance, and your burden, and your
strife?
But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes all by myself?
And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen
how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man
doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
and in the wilderness, where the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you traveled until you reached this place.”
Furthermore the LORD was
angry with me for your sakes, and
sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:
The LORD,
however, was
angry with me on account of you, and He
swore that I would not cross the Jordan to enter the good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
You may say in your heart, “These nations are greater than we are; how can we drive them out?”
Remember, and
forget not,
how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou
didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD.
Remember this, and never
forget how you
provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place, you have been rebelling against the LORD.
And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a
molten image.
And the LORD said to me, “Get up and go down from here at once, for your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
How quickly they have turned aside from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a
molten image.”
And I looked, and, behold, ye had
sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a
molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
And I saw
how you had
sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for
yourselves a
molten calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you.
And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their
chariots;
how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and
how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day;
what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and
chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea
engulf them as they pursued you, and
how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;
And what he did unto Dathan and
Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of
Reuben:
how the earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that was in their possession, in the midst of all Israel:
and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and
Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and
swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying,
How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly
bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:
There will be no poor among you,
however, because the LORD will surely
bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance,
And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a
freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
And you shall
celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the LORD your God with a
freewill offering that you give in proportion to
how the LORD your God has blessed you,
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
You may ask in your heart, “How can we recognize a message that the LORD has not spoken?”
But if any man
hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and
smite him
mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
If,
however, a man hates his
neighbor and lies in wait, attacks him and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities,
Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
This is how you are to treat all the cities that are far away from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.
But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God
doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
However, in the cities of the nations that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, you must not leave alive anything that breathes.
If,
however, this
accusation is true, and no proof of the young woman’s
virginity can be found,
How he met thee by the way, and
smote the
hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou
wast faint and
weary; and he feared not God.
how they met you on your journey when you were
tired and
weary, and they attacked all your stragglers; they had no fear of God.
But it shall come to pass, if thou
wilt not
hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
If,
however, you do not obey the LORD your God by carefully following all His commandments and statutes I am giving you
today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
For you
yourselves know
how we lived in the land of Egypt and
how we passed through the nations on the way here.
For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD; and
how much more after my death?
For I know
how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are already rebelling against the LORD while I am still alive,
how much more will you
rebel after my death!
Do ye thus requite the LORD, O
foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
Is this
how you repay the LORD, O
foolish and senseless people? Is He not your Father and
Creator? Has He not made you and established you?
He found him in a desert land, and in the waste
howling wilderness; he led him about, he
instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
He found him in a desert land, in a barren,
howling wilderness; He surrounded him, He
instructed him, He guarded him as the apple of His eye.
How should one
chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?
How could one man pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?
For we have heard
how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the
Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and
Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
For we have heard
how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and
Og, the two kings of the
Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction.
And Joshua said,
Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Hivites, and the
Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the Jebusites.
And it came to pass, when all the kings of the
Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the
Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the
Canaanite kings along the coast heard
how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and their spirits failed for fear of the Israelites.
And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
But the children of Israel committed a
trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites,
however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
And the men of Israel said unto the
Hivites,
Peradventure ye dwell among us; and
how shall we make a league with you?
But the men of Israel said to the
Hivites, “Perhaps you dwell near us.
How can we make a treaty with you?”
This we will do to them; we will even let them live, lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath which we
sware unto them.
This is
how we will treat them: We will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we
swore to them.”
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants,
how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land and
wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem had heard
how Joshua had taken
Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to
Jericho and her king, so he had done to
Ai and her king; and
how the inhabitants of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
Now Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured
Ai and devoted it to destruction—doing to
Ai and its king as he had done to
Jericho and its king—and that the people of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living near them.
Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The offerings made by fire to the LORD, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
Now therefore give me this mountain,
whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day
how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and
fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
Now therefore give me this hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you
yourself heard then that the
Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”
Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were
waxen strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.
However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they put the
Canaanites to forced labor; but they failed to drive them out completely.
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel,
How long are ye
slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?
So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and
Gad, and
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.
The Levites,
however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And
Gad,
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh have already received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
The Benjamites, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the Benjamites.
And the
spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him,
Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will
shew thee mercy.
and when the
spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, “Please show us
how to get into the city, and we will treat you kindly.”
And yet they would not
hearken unto their judges, but they went a
whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
Israel,
however, did not
listen to their judges. Instead, they
prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them. They quickly turned from the way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments; they did not do as their fathers had done.
And Ehud escaped while they
tarried, and passed beyond the
quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.
Ehud, however, had escaped while the servants waited. He passed by the idols and escaped to Seirah.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of
Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Meanwhile, Sisera had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of
Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord,
wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in
Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
“Please, my Lord,”
Gideon replied, “
how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in
Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”
Then
Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou
didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
Then
Manoah prayed to the LORD, “Please, O Lord, let the man of God You sent us come to us again to teach us
how to raise the boy who is to be born.”
And
Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass.
How shall we order the child, and
how shall we do unto him?
Then
Manoah asked, “When your words come to pass, what will be the boy’s rule of life and mission?”
And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her,
Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to
afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
The lords of the Philistines went to her and said, “
Entice him and find out the source of his great strength and
how we can overpower him to
tie him up and
subdue him. Then each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”
So
Delilah said to
Samson, “Please tell me the source of your great strength and
how you can be
tied up and subdued.”
And
Delilah said unto
Samson, Hitherto thou hast
mocked me, and told me lies: tell me
wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
Then
Delilah said to
Samson, “You have
mocked me and
lied to me all along! Tell me
how you can be
tied up.” He told her, “If you
weave the seven braids of my head into the web of a
loom and
tighten it with a pin, I will become as weak as any other man.”
And she said unto him,
How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast
mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
“
How can you say, ‘I love you,’” she asked, “when your heart is not with me? This is the third time you have
mocked me and failed to
reveal to me the source of your great strength!”
Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was
shaven.
However, the hair of his head began to grow back after it had been
shaved.
Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.
So the five men departed and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living securely, like the Sidonians,
tranquil and
unsuspecting. There was nothing lacking in the land and no
oppressive ruler. And they were far away from the Sidonians and had no alliance with
anyone.
And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?
He replied, “You took the gods I had made, and my priest, and went away. What else do I have? How can you say to me, ‘What is the matter with you?’”
And they called the name of the city
Dan, after the name of
Dan their father, who was born unto Israel:
howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
They named it
Dan, after their
forefather Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city was formerly named Laish.
And the old man said, Peace be with thee;
howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only
lodge not in the street.
“Peace to you,” said the old man. “Let me supply everything you need. Only do not
spend the night in the square.”
(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then said the children of Israel, Tell us, how was this wickedness?
(Meanwhile the Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to
Mizpah.) And the Israelites asked, “Tell us,
how did this wicked thing happen?”
How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have
sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?
What should we do about wives for the survivors, since we have
sworn by the LORD not to give them our daughters in marriage?”
Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?
Then the elders of the congregation said, “What should we do about wives for those who remain, since the women of Benjamin have been destroyed?”
Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have
sworn, saying,
Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.
But we cannot give them our daughters as wives.” For the Israelites had
sworn, “
Cursed is he who gives a wife to a
Benjamite.”
Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
When
Naomi heard in Moab that the LORD had attended to His people by providing them with food, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to leave the land of Moab.
And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and
how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy
nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not
heretofore.
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before.
And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
When
Ruth returned to her mother-in-law,
Naomi asked her, “
How did it go, my daughter?” Then
Ruth told her all that Boaz had done for her.
Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
“Wait, my daughter,” said
Naomi, “until you find out
how things go, for he will not rest unless he has resolved the matter
today.”
And
Eli said unto her,
How long
wilt thou be
drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
and said to her, “
How long will you be
drunk? Put away your wine!”
And he struck it into the pan, or
kettle, or
caldron, or pot; all that the
fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in
Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
and
plunge it into the pan or
kettle or cauldron or
cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat
fork brought up. This is
how they treated all the Israelites who came to
Shiloh.
Now
Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and
how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Now
Eli was very old, and he heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and
how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us
wherewith we shall send it to his place.
the Philistines summoned the priests and diviners, saying, “What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us how to send it back to its place.”
Now therefore
hearken unto their voice:
howbeit yet
protest solemnly unto them, and
shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
Now
listen to them, but you must solemnly
warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”
But the children of
Belial said,
How shall this man save us? And they
despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
But some worthless men said, “
How can this man save us?” So they
despised him and brought him no gifts; but Saul remained silent about it.
Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Above all, fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.
And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of
Gad and
Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in
Gilgal, and all the people followed him
trembling.
Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan into the land of
Gad and
Gilead. Saul,
however, remained at
Gilgal, and all his troops were
quaking in fear.
But
Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and
dipped it in an
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were
enlightened.
Jonathan,
however, had not heard that his father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand,
dipped it into the
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes
brightened.
Then said
Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you,
how mine eyes have been
enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
“My father has brought trouble to the land,”
Jonathan replied. “Just look at
how my eyes have
brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
How much more, if
haply the people had eaten freely to day of the
spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
How much better it would have been if the troops had eaten freely
today from the
plunder they took from their enemies! Would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been much greater?”
And Saul said, Draw ye near
hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.
Therefore Saul said, “Come here, all you leaders of the troops, and let us
investigate how this sin has occurred
today.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I witnessed what the
Amalekites did to the Israelites when they
ambushed them on their way up from Egypt.
And the LORD said unto Samuel,
How long
wilt thou
mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to
Jesse the
Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
Now the LORD said to Samuel, “
How long are you going to
mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to
Jesse of
Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
And Samuel said,
How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an
heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
“
How can I go?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear of it and kill me!” The LORD answered, “Take a
heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of
Jesse the
Bethlehemite, that is
cunning in playing, and a mighty
valiant man, and a man of war, and
prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of
Jesse of
Bethlehem who knows
how to play the
harp. He is a mighty man of
valor, a
warrior,
eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look
how thy brethren
fare, and take their
pledge.
Take also these ten portions of
cheese to the commander of their unit. Check on the
welfare of your brothers and bring back an assurance from them.
And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and
saluted his brethren.
Then David left his supplies in the care of the
quartermaster and ran to the battle line. When he arrived, he asked his brothers
how they were doing.
And David fled from Naioth in
Ramah, and came and said before
Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
Then David fled from Naioth in
Ramah. He came to
Jonathan and asked, “What have I done? What is my iniquity?
How have I
sinned against your father, that he wants to take my life?”
And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
But David’s men said to him, “Look, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen
how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some
bade me kill thee: but mine eye
spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S
anointed.
Behold, this day you have seen with your own eyes that the LORD delivered you into my hand in the cave. I was told to kill you, but I
spared you and said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my lord, since he is the LORD’s
anointed.’
And thou hast shewed this day
how that thou hast dealt well with me:
forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.
And you have shown this day how well you have dealt with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me.
And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall
despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
David, however, said to himself, “One of these days now I will be swept away by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will stop searching for me all over Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”
And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done,
how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a
snare for my life, to cause me to die?
But the woman replied, “Surely you know what Saul has done,
how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why have you set a
trap to get me killed?”
And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was
sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine
handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have
hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
When the woman came to Saul and saw
how distraught he was, she said to him, “Look, your
maidservant has obeyed your voice. I took my life in my hands and did as you told me.
And David said unto him,
How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and
Jonathan his son are dead also.
“What was the outcome?” David asked. “Please tell me.” “The troops fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son
Jonathan are also dead.”
And David said unto the young man that told him,
How knowest thou that Saul and
Jonathan his son be dead?
Then David asked the young man who had brought him the report, “
How do you know that Saul and his son
