Thou that art full of stirs, a
tumultuous city, a
joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.
O city of
commotion, O town of
revelry? Your slain did not die by the sword, nor were they
killed in battle.
And behold joy and
gladness,
slaying oxen, and
killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to
morrow we shall die.
But look, there is joy and
gladness,
butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for
tomorrow we die!”
Hath he
smitten him, as he
smote those that
smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Has the LORD struck Israel as He struck her oppressors? Was she killed like those who slayed her?
Woe to
Ariel, to
Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them
kill sacrifices.
Woe to you, O
Ariel, the city of
Ariel where David camped! Year upon year let your festivals
recur.
He that
killeth an ox is as if he
slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an
oblation, as if he offered
swine’s blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an
idol.
Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man;
whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood;
whoever offers
frankincense is like one who blesses an
idol. Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations.
And I will
appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to
slay, and the dogs to
tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to
devour and destroy.
I will
appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the LORD: the sword to
kill, the dogs to
drag away, and the birds of the air and beasts of the earth to
devour and destroy.
Because he
slew me not from the
womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her
womb to be always great with me.
because he did not
kill me in the
womb so that my mother might have been my grave, and her
womb forever enlarged.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of
Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of
Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which
prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall
slay them before your eyes;
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says about
Ahab son of Kolaiah and
Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are
prophesying to you lies in My name: “I will deliver them to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will
kill them before your very eyes.
So
Zedekiah the king
sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
But King
Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As surely as the LORD lives, who has given us this life, I will not
kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”
But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
If the officials hear that I have spoken with you, and they come and demand of you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what he said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will kill you,’
Then the king of Babylon
slew the sons of
Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon

killed all the nobles of Judah.
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in
Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will
slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he
slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the
remnant in Judah perish?
Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. “Let me go and
kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and
scatter all the people of Judah who have gathered to you, so that the
remnant of Judah would perish?”
Then arose
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and
smote Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and
slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
Then
Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword,
killing the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed to
govern the land.
Ishmael also
slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at
Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
Ishmael also
killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at
Mizpah, as well as the
Chaldean soldiers who were there.
But ten men were found among them that said unto
Ishmael,
Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he
forbare, and
slew them not among their brethren.
But ten of the men among them said to
Ishmael, “Do not
kill us, for we have hidden
treasure in the field—wheat, barley, oil, and honey!” So he
refrained from
killing them with the others.
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the
remnant of the people whom he had recovered from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from
Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from
Gibeon:
Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him took the whole
remnant of the people from
Mizpah whom he had recovered from
Ishmael son of Nethaniah after
Ishmael had
killed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam: the soldiers, women, children, and court officials he had brought back from
Gibeon.
Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
Go up against the land of Merathaim, and against the residents of Pekod.
Kill them and
devote them to destruction. Do all that I have commanded you,” declares the LORD.
Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter:
woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their
visitation.
Kill all her young bulls; let them go down to the slaughter.
Woe to them, for their day has come— the time of their punishment.
And the king of Babylon
slew the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes: he
slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.
There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes, and he also

He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an
adversary, and
slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of
Zion: he poured out his
fury like fire.
He has bent His bow like an enemy; His right hand is positioned. Like a
foe He has
killed all who were pleasing to the eye; He has poured out His wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of
Zion.
Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have You ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the infants they have
nurtured? Should priests and prophets be
killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast
killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and old lie together in the dust of the streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
Thou hast covered with anger, and
persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not
pitied.
You have covered
Yourself in anger and pursued us; You have
killed without
pity.
And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and
smite: let not your eye
spare, neither have ye
pity:
And as I
listened, He said to the others, “Follow him through the city and start
killing; do not show
pity or
spare anyone!
And he said unto them,
Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and
slew in the city.
Then He told them, “
Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go forth!” So they went out and began
killing throughout the city.
And it came to pass, while they were
slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and
cried, and said,
Ah Lord GOD!
wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy
fury upon Jerusalem?
While they were
killing, I was left alone. And I fell facedown and
cried out, “Oh, Lord GOD, when You pour out Your wrath on Jerusalem, will You destroy the entire
remnant of Israel?”
Ye have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.
You have multiplied those you killed in this city and filled its streets with the dead.
And will ye
pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to
slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
You have
profaned Me among My people for handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to My people who would
listen, you have
killed those who should not have died and
spared those who should not have lived.
And the company shall stone them with stones, and
dispatch them with their swords; they shall
slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.
The
mob will stone them and cut them down with their swords. They will
kill their sons and daughters and burn down their houses.
Ye eat the fat, and ye
clothe you with the wool, ye
kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock.
You eat the fat, wear the wool, and
butcher the
fattened sheep, but you do not feed the flock.
And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.
I will fill its mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines.
That they would desire
mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
urging them to
plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this
mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be
killed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
Therefore because the king’s commandment was
urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire
slew those men that took up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego.
The king’s command was so
urgent and the furnace so hot that the
fiery flames
killed the men who carried up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego.
And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages,
trembled and feared before him: whom he would he
slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
Because of the greatness that He bestowed on him, the people of every nation and language
trembled in fear before him. He
killed whom he wished and kept alive whom he wished; he
exalted whom he wished and humbled whom he wished.
And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will
slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.

I have sent among you the
pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the
stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I sent plagues among you like those of Egypt; I
killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the
stench of your camp, yet you did not return to Me,” declares the LORD.
I saw the LORD standing upon the altar: and he said,
Smite the
lintel of the door, that the posts may
shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will
slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not
flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds
shake.
Topple them on the heads of all the people, and I will
kill the rest with the sword. None of those who
flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape.

tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and

ravin.

Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
kill; and
whosoever shall
kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
You have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not murder’ and ‘
Anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’
And fear not them which
kill the body, but are not able to
kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell.
Do not be afraid of those who
kill the body but cannot
kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in
hell.

From that time forth began Jesus to
shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be
killed, and be raised again the third day.
From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and that He must be
killed and on the third day be raised to life.
And they shall
kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding
sorry.
They will
kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised to life.” And the disciples were deeply
grieved.
And the
husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and

But when the
husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us
kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

vineyard and
killed him.
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my
dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are
killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my
dinner. My oxen and
fattened cattle have been
killed, and everything is ready. Come to the
wedding banquet.’
The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto
yourselves, that ye are the children of them which
killed the prophets.
So you
testify against
yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and
scribes: and some of them ye shall
kill and
crucify; and some of them shall ye
scourge in your synagogues, and
persecute them from city to city:
Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will
kill and
crucify, and others you will
flog in your synagogues and
persecute in town after town.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that
killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a
hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who
kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
Then shall they deliver you up to be
afflicted, and shall
kill you: and ye shall be
hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
Then they will deliver you over to be
persecuted and
killed, and you will be
hated by all nations because of My name.

killed, and after three days rise again.

scribes, and that He must be
killed and after three days rise again.
And
ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have
compassion on us, and help us.
“It often throws him into the fire or into the water, trying to
kill him. But if You can do anything, have
compassion on us and help us.”

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not
kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness,
Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit
adultery, do not
steal, do not bear false witness, do not
cheat others, honor your father and mother.’”
And they shall
mock him, and shall
scourge him, and shall
spit upon him, and shall
kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

mock Him and
spit on Him and
flog Him and
kill Him. And after three days He will rise again.”

killed him, and cast him out of the
vineyard.
So they seized the son,
killed him, and threw him out of the
vineyard.
What shall therefore the lord of the
vineyard do? he will come and destroy the
husbandmen, and will give the
vineyard unto others.
What then will the owner of the
vineyard do? He will come and
kill those tenants, and will give the
vineyard to others.
After two days was the feast of the
passover, and of
unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the
scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
Now the
Passover and the Feast of
Unleavened Bread were two days away, and the chief priests and
scribes were looking for a
covert way to arrest Jesus and
kill Him.
And the first day of
unleavened bread, when they
killed the
passover, his disciples said unto him, Where
wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the
passover?
On the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, when the
Passover lamb was to be sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the
Passover?”

scribes, and He must be
killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
Woe unto you! for ye build the
sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers
killed them.
Woe to you! You build tombs for the prophets, but it was your fathers who
killed them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed
killed them, and ye build their
sepulchres.
So you are witnesses consenting to the deeds of your fathers: They killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall
slay and
persecute:

kill and others they will
persecute.’
From the blood of
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple:
verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
from the blood of
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah, who was
killed between the altar and the sanctuary.
Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.
And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.
But I will
forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath
killed hath power to cast into
hell;
yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been
killed, has authority to throw you into
hell.
Yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and
slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Or those eighteen who were
killed when the tower of Siloam
collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem?
The same day there came certain of the
Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will
kill thee.
At that very hour, some
Pharisees came to Jesus and told Him, “Leave this place and get away, because Herod wants to
kill You.”
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which
killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a
hen doth gather her
brood under her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who
kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath
killed the
fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
‘Your brother has returned,’ he said, ‘and your father has
killed the
fattened calf, because he has him back safe and sound.’
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath
devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast
killed for him the
fatted calf.
But when this son of yours returns from
squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you
kill the
fattened calf for him!’
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not
kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit
adultery, do not murder, do not
steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and mother.’”

scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
They will
flog Him and
kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.”

scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us
kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
But when the tenants saw the son, they discussed it among themselves and said, ‘This is the heir. Let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
So they cast him out of the
vineyard, and
killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the
vineyard do unto them?
So they threw him out of the
vineyard and
killed him. What then will the owner of the
vineyard do to them?
He shall come and destroy these
husbandmen, and shall give the
vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God
forbid.
He will come and
kill those tenants, and will give the
vineyard to others.” And when the people heard this, they said, “May such a thing never happen!”

kill himself? because he saith,
Whither I go, ye cannot come.

I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you.
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.
