And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in
haste; and he said, I have
sinned against the
LORD your God, and against you.
Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have
sinned against the
LORD your God and against you.
Now therefore
forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the
LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.
Now please
forgive my sin once more and appeal to the
LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.”
And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.
So Moses left Pharaoh’s presence and appealed to the LORD.
And the
LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in all the coasts of Egypt.
And the
LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and
blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single
locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.
But the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.
But the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.
Then the
LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt—a
palpable darkness.”
And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your little ones may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”
And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.
But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an
hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the
LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the
LORD, until we come thither.
Even our
livestock must go with us; not a
hoof will be left behind, for we will need some of them to worship the
LORD our God, and we will not know how we are to worship the
LORD until we arrive.”
But the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go.
But the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to let them go.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.
And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, Moses himself was highly regarded in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.
And Moses said, Thus saith the
LORD, About
midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
So Moses declared, “This is what the
LORD says: ‘About
midnight I will go throughout Egypt,
But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the
LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
But among all the Israelites, not even a dog will
snarl at man or beast.’ Then you will know that the
LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
And the
LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
The
LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not
listen to you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the
LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins
girded, your
shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in
haste: it is the
LORD’S
passover.
This is how you are to eat it: You must be fully dressed for travel, with your
sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. You are to eat in
haste; it is the
LORD’s
Passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will
smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the
LORD.
On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every
firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will
execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the
LORD.
And this day shall be unto you for a
memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the
LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an
ordinance for ever.
And this day will be a
memorial for you, and you are to
celebrate it as a feast to the
LORD, as a permanent statute for the generations to come.
For the
LORD will pass through to
smite the Egyptians; and when he
seeth the blood upon the
lintel, and on the two side posts, the
LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to
smite you.
When the
LORD passes through to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that
doorway; so He will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as He promised, you are to keep this service.
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the
LORD’S
passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he
smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
you are to reply, ‘It is the
Passover sacrifice to the
LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when He struck down the Egyptians and
spared our homes.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
And the Israelites went and did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Get up, leave my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested.
And the
LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they
spoiled the Egyptians.
And the
LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that they granted their request. In this way they
plundered the Egyptians.
And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the
selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the
LORD went out from the land of Egypt.
At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD’s divisions went out of the land of Egypt.
It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
Because the
LORD kept a
vigil that night to bring them out of the land of Egypt, this same night is to be a
vigil to the
LORD, to be observed by all the Israelites for the generations to come.
And the
LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the
ordinance of the
passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
And the
LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the
Passover: No foreigner is to eat of it.
And when a stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the
LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
Then all the Israelites did this—they did just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
And it came to pass the
selfsame day, that the
LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
And on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of
bondage; for by strength of hand the
LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no
leavened bread be eaten.
So Moses told the people, “Remember this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the
LORD brought you out of it by the strength of His hand. And nothing
leavened shall be eaten.
And it shall be when the
LORD shall bring thee into the land of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
And when the
LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Amorites,
Hivites, and Jebusites—the land He
swore to your fathers that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you shall keep this service in this month.
Seven days thou shalt eat
unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the
LORD.
For seven days you are to eat
unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the
LORD.
And thou shalt
shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the
LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
And on that day you are to explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a
memorial between thine eyes, that the
LORD’S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the
LORD brought thee out of Egypt.
It shall be a sign for you on your hand and a reminder on your
forehead that the Law of the
LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the
LORD brought you out of Egypt.
And it shall be when the
LORD shall bring thee into the land of the
Canaanites, as he
sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,
And after the
LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites and gives it to you, as He
swore to you and your fathers,
That thou shalt set apart unto the
LORD all that openeth the
matrix, and every
firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the
LORD’S.
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the
LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of
bondage:
In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the
LORD slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man, and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the
LORD all that openeth the
matrix, being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the
LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast. This is why I sacrifice to the
LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And it shall be for a
token upon thine hand, and for
frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the
LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.
So it shall serve as a sign on your hand and a symbol on your
forehead, for with a mighty hand the
LORD brought us out of Egypt.”
And the
LORD went before them by day in a
pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a
pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
And the
LORD went before them in a
pillar of cloud to guide their way by day, and in a
pillar of fire to give them light by night, so that they could travel by day or night.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the
LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the
LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
And the
LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
And the
LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out defiantly.
And when Pharaoh drew
nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were
sore afraid: and the children of Israel
cried out unto the
LORD.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were
terrified and
cried out to the
LORD.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the
LORD, which he will
shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the
LORD’s salvation, which He will
accomplish for you
today; for the Egyptians you see
today, you will never see again.
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the
LORD, when I have
gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his
chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
The Egyptians will know that I am the
LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his
chariots, and his
horsemen.”
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the
LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the
pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
At morning watch, however, the
LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the
pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their camp into confusion.
And took off their
chariot wheels, that they
drave them
heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us
flee from the face of Israel; for the
LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
He caused their
chariot wheels to
wobble, so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us
flee from the Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the
LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
And the
LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots, and upon their
horsemen.
Then the
LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their
chariots and
horsemen.”
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at
daybreak the sea returned to its normal state. As the Egyptians were retreating, the
LORD swept them into the sea.
Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
That day the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore.
And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised over the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.
Then
sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the
LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the
LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Then Moses and the Israelites
sang this song to the
LORD: “I will sing to the
LORD, for He is highly
exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
The
LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an
habitation; my father’s God, and I will
exalt him.
The
LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will
exalt Him.
The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.
The
LORD is a
warrior, the
LORD is His name.
Thy right hand, O
LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O
LORD, hath
dashed in pieces the enemy.
Your right hand, O
LORD, is
majestic in power; Your right hand, O
LORD, has
shattered the enemy.
Who is like unto thee, O
LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in
holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Who among the gods is like You, O
LORD? Who is like You—
majestic in
holiness,
revered with praises, performing wonders?
Fear and
dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O
LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.
and terror and
dread will fall on them. By the power of Your arm they will be as still as a stone until Your people pass by, O
LORD, until the people You have bought pass by.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance— the place, O LORD, You have prepared for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, Your hands have established.
The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.
The
LORD will reign
forever and ever!”
For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his
chariots and with his
horsemen into the sea, and the
LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
For when Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots, and
horsemen went into the sea, the
LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
And
Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the
LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
And
Miriam sang back to them: “Sing to the
LORD, for He is highly
exalted; the horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.”
And he
cried unto the
LORD; and the
LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an
ordinance, and there he proved them,
And Moses
cried out to the
LORD, and the
LORD showed him a log. And when he cast it into the waters, they were
sweetened. There the
LORD made for them a statute and an
ordinance, and there He tested them,
And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the
LORD thy God, and
wilt do that which is right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the
LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the
LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the
LORD who heals you.”
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
“If only we had died by the
LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by pots of meat and
ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the
LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the
LORD: and what are we, that ye
murmur against us?
and in the morning you will see the
LORD’s glory, because He has heard your
grumbling against Him. For who are we that you should
grumble against us?”
And Moses said, This shall be, when the
LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the
LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the
LORD.
And Moses added, “The
LORD will give you meat to eat this evening and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the
LORD.”
And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole congregation of Israel, ‘Come before the
LORD, for He has heard your
grumbling.’”
And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
And as Aaron was speaking to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the desert, and there in a cloud the glory of the LORD appeared.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
“I have heard the
grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At
twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the
LORD your God.’”
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the
LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
This is the thing which the
LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an
omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
This is what the
LORD has commanded: ‘Each one is to gather as much as he needs. You may take an
omer for each person in your tent.’”
And he said unto them, This is that which the
LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the
LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day, and
seethe that ye will
seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “This is what the
LORD has said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the
LORD. So
bake what you want to
bake, and
boil what you want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.’”
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the
LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the field.
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments and instructions?
See, for that the
LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days;
abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
Understand that the
LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day He will give you bread for two days. On the seventh day,
everyone must stay where he is; no one may leave his place.”
And Moses said, This is the thing which the
LORD commandeth, Fill an
omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread
wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
Moses said, “This is what the
LORD has commanded: ‘Keep an
omer of
manna for the generations to come, so that they may see the bread I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an
omer full of
manna therein, and lay it up before the
LORD, to be kept for your generations.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a
jar and fill it with an
omer of
manna. Then place it before the
LORD to be preserved for the generations to come.”
As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
And Aaron placed it in front of the Testimony, to be preserved just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the
LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving from place to place as the
LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
Wherefore the people did
chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why
chide ye with me? wherefore do ye
tempt the
LORD?
So the people
contended with Moses, “Give us water to drink.” “Why do you
contend with me?” Moses replied. “Why do you test the
LORD?”
And Moses
cried unto the
LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
Then Moses
cried out to the
LORD, “What should I do with these people? A little more and they will stone me!”
And the
LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod,
wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
And the
LORD said to Moses, “Walk on
ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take along in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the
chiding of the children of Israel, and because they
tempted the
LORD, saying, Is the
LORD among us, or not?
He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
And the
LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a
memorial in a book, and
rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
Then the
LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a
scroll as a reminder and
recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:
And Moses built an altar and named it The
LORD Is My
Banner.
For he said, Because the
LORD hath
sworn that the
LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
“Indeed,” he said, “a hand was lifted up toward the throne of the LORD. The LORD will war against Amalek from generation to generation.”
When Jethro, the priest of
Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the
LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
Now Moses’ father-in-law Jethro, the priest of
Midian, heard about all that God had done for Moses and His people Israel, and how the
LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
