Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to
redeem for a people to himself, and to
make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself and to
make a name for Himself? You performed great and
awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before Your people, whom You redeemed for
Yourself from Egypt.
Then David said unto the
messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto
Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another:
make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and
encourage thou him.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and
make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister Tamar come and
make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”
And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us
flee; for we shall not else escape from
Absalom:
make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and
smite the city with the edge of the sword.
And David said to all the servants with him in Jerusalem, “Arise and let us
flee, or we will not escape from
Absalom! We must leave quickly, or he will soon overtake us,
heap disaster on us, and put the city to the sword.”
Whereas thou camest but
yesterday, should I this day
make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go
whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
In fact, you arrived only
yesterday; should I
make you
wander around with us
today while I do not know where I am going? Go back and take your brothers with you. May the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness.”
And I will come upon him while he is
weary and weak handed, and will
make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall
flee; and I will
smite the king only:
I will attack him while he is weak and
weary; I will throw him into a
panic, and all the people with him will
flee; I will strike down only the king
Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and
wherewith shall I
make the
atonement, that ye may
bless the inheritance of the LORD?
So David asked the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? How can I
make amends so that you may
bless the inheritance of the LORD?”
God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
God is my strong fortress and He makes my way clear.
He maketh my feet like hinds feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights.
Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an
everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he
make it not to grow.
Is not my house right with God? For He has established with me an
everlasting covenant, ordered and secured in every part. Will He not bring about my full salvation and my every desire?
As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
Just as the LORD was with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon and make his throne even greater than that of my lord King David.”
And moreover the king’s servants came to
bless our lord king David, saying, God
make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and
make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.
The king’s servants have also gone to
congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God
make the name of Solomon more famous than your own name, and may He
make his throne greater than your throne.’ And the king has bowed in worship on his bed,
Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not
nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee
nay.
“I have just one small request of you,” she said. “Do not deny me.” “Make your request, my mother,” the king replied, “for I will not deny you.”
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not
make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not
make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall
make toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
When thy people Israel be
smitten down before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and
confess thy name, and pray, and
make supplication unto thee in this house:
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your name, praying and
pleading with You in this temple,
What prayer and
supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
But of the children of Israel did Solomon
make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of war, his servants, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will
make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to
make him king.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore
make thou the
grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you should
make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s
waist!
But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and
molten images, to
provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
You have done more evil than all who came before you. You have proceeded to
make for
yourself other gods and
molten images to
provoke Me, and you have
flung Me behind your back.
Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
Nevertheless, for the sake of David, the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and to make Jerusalem strong.
So now I will
consume Baasha and his house, and I will
make your house like that of
Jeroboam son of Nebat:
For his sins which he
sinned in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to
make Israel to sin.
because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD and following the example of
Jeroboam and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.
Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.
At that time the people of Israel were divided: Half of the people supported Tibni son of Ginath as king, and half supported Omri.
And
Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but
make me thereof a little
cake first, and bring it unto me, and after
make for thee and for thy son.
“Do not be afraid,”
Elijah said to her. “Go and do as you have said. But first
make me a small
cake of bread from what you have, and bring it out to me. Afterward,
make some for
yourself and your son,
Then
Jezebel sent a
messenger unto
Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I
make not thy life as the life of one of them by to
morrow about this time.
So
Jezebel sent a
messenger to
Elijah, saying, “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if by this time
tomorrow I do not
make your life like the lives of those you killed!”
And Ben-
hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt
make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said
Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
Ben-
hadad said to him, “I will restore the cities my father took from your father; you may set up your own marketplaces in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” “By this treaty I release you,”
Ahab replied. So he made a treaty with him and sent him away.
I will
make your house like that of
Jeroboam son of Nebat and like that of
Baasha son of
Ahijah, because you have
provoked My anger and caused Israel to sin.’
And the king said unto him, How many times shall I
adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?
But the king said to him, “How many times must I
make you
swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
And he said, Thus saith the LORD,
Make this valley full of
ditches.
and he said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘
Dig this valley full of
ditches.’
Let us
make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a
stool, and a
candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
Please let us
make a small room
upstairs and put in it a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp for him. Then when he comes to us, he can stay there.”
And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to
make alive, that this man
doth send unto me to recover a man of his
leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
When the king of Israel read the letter, he
tore his clothes and asked, “Am I God, killing and giving life, that this man expects me to cure a
leper? Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!”
And
Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
“If you will not,” said
Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much soil as a pair of mules can carry. For your servant will never again
make a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but the LORD.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
Please let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a place to live there.” “Go,” said
Elisha.
Then a lord on whose hand the king
leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would
make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
But the officer on whose arm the king
leaned answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to
make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” “You will see it with your own eyes,” replied
Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it.”
And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
And the officer had answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to
make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” So
Elisha had replied, “You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it!”
And when thou comest thither, look out there
Jehu the son of
Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and
make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
When you arrive, look for
Jehu son of
Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go in, get him away from his companions, and take him to an inner room.
And I will
make the house of
Ahab like the house of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of
Baasha the son of
Ahijah:
But king
Joram was returned to be
healed in
Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria.) And
Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in
Jezreel.
but King
Joram had returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds he had suffered at the hands of the Arameans in the battle against
Hazael their king.) So
Jehu said, “If you commanders wish to
make me king, then do not let
anyone escape from the city to go and tell it in
Jezreel.”
And
Joram said,
Make ready. And his
chariot was made ready. And
Joram king of Israel and
Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his
chariot, and they went out against
Jehu, and met him in the portion of
Naboth the Jezreelite.
And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to
Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt
bid us; we will not
make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
So the palace
administrator, the
overseer of the city, the elders, and the guardians sent a message to
Jehu: “We are your servants, and we will do whatever you say. We will not
make anyone king. Do whatever is good in your sight.”
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the
Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
Nevertheless, the people of each nation continued to make their own gods in the cities where they had settled, and they set them up in the shrines that the people of Samaria had made on the high places.
Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now, therefore,
make a
bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you can put riders on them!
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Do not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria,
Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his
cistern:
Do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says:
Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to
wander from the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
And he
defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of
Hinnom, that no man might
make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to
Molech.
He also
desecrated Topheth in the Valley of Ben-
hinnom so that no one could sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire to
Molech.
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to
make an
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense to
make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
Now these were the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who, together with all Israel,
bolstered and strengthened his kingdom, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
And of the half tribe of
Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and
make David king.
From the half-tribe of
Manasseh: 18,000 designated by name to come and
make David king.
All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to
Hebron, to
make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to
make David king.
All these men of war,
arrayed for battle, came to
Hebron fully determined to
make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of the Israelites were of one mind to
make David king.
Give
thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name,
make known his deeds among the people.
“Give
thanks to the LORD; call upon His name;
make known His deeds among the nations.
And with them Heman and
Jeduthun with
trumpets and cymbals for those that should
make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of
Jeduthun were
porters.
Heman and
Jeduthun had with them
trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for the songs of God. And the sons of
Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to
redeem to be his own people, to
make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself? You made a name for
Yourself through great and
awesome wonders by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
For thy people Israel
didst thou
make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.
For You have made Your people Israel Your very own
forever, and You, O LORD, have become their God.
And
Joab answered, The LORD
make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
And David prepared iron in abundance for the
nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;
David provided a large quantity of iron to
make the
nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, together with more bronze than could be
weighed And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now
make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I must
make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to
make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to
make me king over all Israel.
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
Both riches and honor come from You, and You are the ruler over all. In Your hands are power and might to
exalt and give strength to all.
And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God;
Additionally, Huram made the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished the work that he had undertaken for King Solomon in the house of God:
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to
make one sound to be heard in praising and
thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud
Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall
make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to
make him
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee; and shall return and
confess thy name, and pray and
make supplication before thee in this house;
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your name, praying and
pleading before You in this temple,
Then what prayer or what
supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own
sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
Then will I
pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will
make it to be a
proverb and a
byword among all nations.
then I will
uproot Israel from the soil I have given them, and I will
banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My Name. I will
make it an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all the peoples.
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon
make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his
chariots and
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to
make him king.
And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you should
make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s
waist!
And
Rehoboam made
Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to
make him king.
Rehoboam appointed
Abijah son of
Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to
make him king.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not
make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and
make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against
Jehoshaphat.
And the
dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not
make war against
Jehoshaphat.
And the king said to him, How many times shall I
adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?
But the king said to him, “How many times must I
make you
swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of
Ammon, and with them other beside the
Ammonites, came against
Jehoshaphat to battle.
After this, the Moabites and
Ammonites, together with some of the Meunites, came to
make war against
Jehoshaphat.
And he joined himself with him to
make ships to go to
Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion-gaber.
They agreed to
make ships to go to
Tarshish, and these were built in Ezion-
geber.
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye
hasten the matter.
Howbeit the Levites
hastened it not.
So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not
make haste.
And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada,
whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer
withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
When they were finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada to make with it the articles for the house of the LORD—utensils for the service and for the burnt offerings, dishes, and other objects of gold and silver. Throughout the days of Jehoiada, burnt offerings were presented regularly in the house of the LORD.
But if thou
wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall
make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
Even if you go and fight
bravely in battle, God will
make you
stumble before the enemy, for God has power to help and power to overthrow.”
Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.
Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, so that His fierce anger will turn away from us.
And the priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to
make an
atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
And the priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to
make atonement for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.
So they established a decree to
make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem. For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
Moreover, he commanded the people living in Jerusalem to
make a contribution for the priests and Levites so that they could
devote themselves to the Law of the LORD.
And when
Hezekiah saw that
Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
So kill the
passover, and
sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Slaughter the
Passover lambs,
consecrate yourselves, and
make preparations for your fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the LORD given by Moses.”
But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to
make haste:
forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you and me, O king of Judah? I have not come against you
today, but I am fighting another dynasty. God told me to
hurry; so stop
opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!”
Then the people of the land
weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
Then the people of the land set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to build.
