Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame;
Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are
affrighted.
The fords have been seized, the
marshes set on fire, and the soldiers are
terrified.”
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
He hath bent his bow, and set me as a
mark for the
arrow.
He bent His bow and set me as the
target for His
arrow.
And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a
mark upon the foreheads of the men that
sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a
mark on the foreheads of the men
sighing and
groaning over all the abominations committed there.”
Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the
mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and children; but do not go near
anyone who has the
mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
Also, thou son of man,
appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both
twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
“Now you, son of man,
mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take, both starting from the same land. And make a
signpost where the road branches off to each city.
Mark out one road for the sword to come against Rabbah of the
Ammonites, and another against Judah into fortified Jerusalem.
The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
The men of
Sidon and Arvad were your
oarsmen. Your men of skill, O Tyre, were there as your captains.
The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their
mariners were in thee to occupy thy
merchandise.
Javan,
Tubal, and
Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy
market.
The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the
merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and
ebony.
The men of Dedan were your clients; many coastlands were your
market; they paid you with ivory tusks and
ebony.
Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy
market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and
balm.
Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith, cakes and honey, oil and
balm for your
merchandise.
and casks of wine from Izal for your wares. Wrought iron,
cassia, and sweet cane were exchanged for your
merchandise.
These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and
broidered work, and in chests of rich
apparel, bound with cords, and made of
cedar, among thy
merchandise.
In your
marketplace they traded with you fine garments of blue,
embroidered work, and multicolored rugs with cords
tightly twisted and
knotted.
The ships of
Tarshish did sing of thee in thy
market: and thou
wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.
Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy
merchandise, thy
mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy
merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
Your wealth, wares, and
merchandise, your sailors, captains, and shipwrights, your merchants and all the warriors within you, with all the other people on board, will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your
downfall.
And all that handle the
oar, the
mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;
All who handle the oars will
abandon their ships. The sailors and all the captains of the sea will stand on the shore.
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look carefully with your eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
And they shall not
marry a widow or a
divorced woman, but must
marry a virgin of the descendants of the house of Israel, or a widow of a priest.
But the
miry places thereof and the
marishes thereof shall not be
healed; they shall be given to salt.
But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.
And the king of the south shall be moved with
choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
In a
rage, the king of the South will
march out to fight the king of the North, who will raise a large army, but it will be delivered into the hand of his enemy.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in
marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plan will not succeed or help him.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall
exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall speak
marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall
prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Then the king will do as he pleases and will
exalt and
magnify himself above every god, and he will speak
monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished.
So he went and took
Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.
So
Hosea went and
married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
They shall run like mighty men; they shall
climb the wall like men of war; and they shall
march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
They charge like mighty men; they scale the walls like men of war. Each one
marches in formation, not
swerving from the course.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “The city that marches out a thousand strong will only see a hundred return, and the one that marches out a hundred strong will have but ten left in the house of Israel.”
Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the
ephah small, and the
shekel great, and
falsifying the balances by
deceit?
asking, “When will the New Moon be over, that we may sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, that we may
market wheat? Let us reduce the
ephah and increase the
shekel; let us
cheat with
dishonest scales.
Then the
mariners were afraid, and
cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to
lighten it of them. But
Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast
asleep.
The sailors were afraid, and each
cried out to his own god. And they threw the ship’s
cargo into the sea to
lighten the load. But
Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.
For the dwellers of
Maroth pined for good, but
calamity came down from the LORD, even to the gate of Jerusalem.
Yet will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of
Mareshah: he shall come unto
Adullam the glory of Israel.
I will again bring a conqueror against you, O dweller of
Mareshah. The glory of Israel will come to
Adullam.
And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of
Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
And they will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of
Nimrod with the
blade drawn. So He will deliver us when Assyria invades our land and
marches into our borders.
According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I
shew unto him
marvellous things.
As in the days when you came out of Egypt, I will show My wonders.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good
tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Look to the mountains— the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!
Celebrate your feasts, O Judah;
fulfill your vows. For the wicked will never again
march through you; they will be utterly cut off.
For the LORD will restore the
splendor of Jacob like the
splendor of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and ruined the branches of their vine.
Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
“Look at the nations and observe— be utterly
astounded! For I am doing a work in your days that you would never believe even if someone told you.
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and
hasty nation, which shall
march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans— that
ruthless and
impetuous nation which
marches through the breadth of the earth to seize dwellings not their own.
You
marched across the earth with
fury; You
threshed the nations in wrath.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be
marvellous in the eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be
marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “If this is impossible in the eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be impossible in My eyes?” declares the LORD of Hosts.
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who
march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.
Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter;
This is what the LORD my God says: “Pasture the flock marked for slaughter,
And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two
staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
So I pastured the flock
marked for slaughter, especially the
afflicted of the flock. Then I took for myself two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the flock.
Judah hath dealt
treacherously, and an
abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath
married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by
marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
And Jacob
begat Joseph the husband of
Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother
Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother
Mary was
pledged in
marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
But after he had
pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace
Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had
bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
When Joseph
woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and embraced
Mary as his wife.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with
Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and
frankincense, and
myrrh.
On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother
Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and
frankincense and
myrrh.
But I tell you that
anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, brings
adultery upon her. And he who
marries a
divorced woman commits
adultery.
When Jesus heard it, he
marvelled, and said to them that followed,
Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
When Jesus heard this, He
marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found
anyone in Israel with such great faith.
But the men
marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
The men were
amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey Him!”
But when the multitudes saw it, they
marvelled, and
glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
When the crowds saw this, they were filled with
awe and
glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
And when the devil was cast out, the
dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
And when the
demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were
amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
But
whereunto shall I
liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the
markets, and calling unto their fellows,
To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
Is not this the
carpenter’s son? is not his mother called
Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and
Judas?
“Isn’t this the
carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother’s name
Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and
Judas?
Now I tell you that
whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and
marries another woman, commits
adultery.”
His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
His disciples said to Him, “If this is the case between a man and his wife, it is better not to marry.”
And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.
And when the disciples saw it, they
marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree
withered away!
When the disciples saw this, they
marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is
marvelous in our eyes’?
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a
wedding banquet for his son.
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my
dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the
marriage.
Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my
dinner. My oxen and
fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the
wedding banquet.’
Go ye therefore into the
highways, and as many as ye shall find,
bid to the
marriage.
Go therefore to the crossroads and
invite to the
banquet as many as you can find.’
When they had heard these words, they
marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
And when they heard this, they were
amazed. So they left Him and went away.
Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses declared that if a man dies without having children, his brother is to marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died without having children. So he left his wife to his brother.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For all of them were married to her.”
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
In the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
And greetings in the
markets, and to be called of men,
Rabbi,
Rabbi.
the greetings in the
marketplaces, and the title of ‘
Rabbi’ by which they are addressed.
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in
marriage, up to the day
Noah entered the ark.
And while they went to
buy, the
bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the
marriage: and the door was shut.
But while they were on their way to
buy it, the
bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the
wedding banquet, and the door was shut.
But Jesus gave no answer, not even to a single charge, much to the governor’s
amazement.
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
And there was
Mary Magdalene, and the other
Mary, sitting over against the
sepulchre.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to
dawn toward the first day of the week, came
Mary Magdalene and the other
Mary to see the
sepulchre.
After the Sabbath, at
dawn on the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene and the other
Mary went to see the tomb.
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine
doth burst the bottles, and the wine is
spilled, and the bottles will be
marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will
burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins.”
And he departed, and began to
publish in
Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did
marvel.
Is not this the
carpenter, the son of
Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were
offended at him.
Isn’t this the
carpenter, the son of
Mary and the brother of James, Joses,
Judas, and Simon? Aren’t His sisters here with us as well?” And they took
offense at Him.
And he
marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
And He was
amazed at their unbelief. And He went around from village to village, teaching the people.
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.
And
whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and
besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
And wherever He went—villages and towns and countrysides—they laid the sick in the
marketplaces and
begged Him just to let them touch the
fringe of His
cloak. And all who touched Him were
healed.
And when they come from the
market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots,
brasen vessels, and of tables.
And on returning from the
market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for
dining.
And he saith unto them,
Whosoever shall put away his wife, and
marry another, committeth
adultery against her.
So He told them, “
Whoever divorces his wife and
marries another woman commits
adultery against her.
And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be
married to another, she committeth
adultery.
And if a woman divorces her husband and
marries another man, she commits
adultery.”
This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
This is from the Lord, and it is
marvelous in our eyes’?”
And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they
marvelled at him.
Then Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” And they
marveled at Him.
Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man is to marry his brother’s widow and raise up offspring for him.
Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died, leaving no children.
And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
Then the second one married the widow, but he also died and left no children. And the third did likewise.
In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
And he said unto them in his doctrine,
Beware of the
scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love
salutations in the
marketplaces,
In His teaching Jesus also said, “Watch out for the
scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, to receive greetings in the
marketplaces,
There were also women looking on
afar off: among whom was
Mary Magdalene, and
Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and
Salome;
And there were also women watching from a distance. Among them were
Mary Magdalene,
Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and
Salome.
And
Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the
centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the
centurion to ask if this was so.
And
Mary Magdalene and
Mary the mother of Joses
beheld where he was laid.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where His body was placed.
And when the sabbath was past,
Mary Magdalene, and
Mary the mother of James, and
Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and
anoint him.
When the Sabbath was over,
Mary Magdalene,
Mary the mother of James, and
Salome bought spices so they could go and
anoint the body of Jesus.
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons.
Meanwhile, the people were waiting for
Zechariah and wondering why he took so long in the temple.
