Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required
not I the bread of the governor, because the
bondage was heavy upon this people.
Each day one ox, six choice sheep, and some fowl were prepared for me, and once every ten days an abundance of all kinds of wine was provided. But I did
not demand the food
allotted to the governor, because the burden on the people was so heavy.
Now it came to pass, when
Sanballat, and
Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had
not set up the doors upon the gates;)
When
Sanballat,
Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and
not a
gap was left—though to that time I had
not yet
installed the doors in the gates—
Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
Then I sent him this reply: “There is
nothing to these rumors you are spreading; you are
inventing them in your own mind.”
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be
weakened from the work, that it be
not done. Now therefore, O God,
strengthen my hands.
For they were all trying to
frighten us, saying, “Their hands will be
weakened in the work, and it will never be finished.” But now, my God,
strengthen my hands.
And I said, Should such a man as I
flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will
not go in.
But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Should one like me go into the temple to save his own life? I will not go!”
And, lo, I perceived that God had
not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for
Tobiah and
Sanballat had
hired him.
I realized that God had
not sent him, but that he had uttered this prophecy against me because
Tobiah and
Sanballat had
hired him.
And I said unto them, Let
not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and
appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.
And I told them, “Do
not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the guards are on duty, keep the doors shut and securely fastened. And
appoint the residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some at their own homes.”
Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
Now the city was large and
spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had
not yet been rebuilt.
And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha,
Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could
not shew their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.
The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha,
Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but could
not prove that their families were descended from Israel:
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but it was
not found: therefore were they, as
polluted, put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should
not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with
Urim and
Thummim.
The governor ordered them
not to eat the most holy things until there was a priest to
consult the
Urim and
Thummim.
And
Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and
Ezra the priest the
scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God;
mourn not, nor
weep. For all the people
wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehemiah the governor,
Ezra the priest and
scribe, and the Levites who were
instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do
not mourn or
weep.” For all the people were
weeping as they heard the words of the Law.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom
nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye
sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Then
Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have
nothing prepared, since
today is holy to our Lord. Do
not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye
grieved.
And the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, since
today is holy. Do
not grieve.”
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had
not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great
gladness.
The whole assembly who had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of
Nun until that day, the Israelites had
not celebrated like this. And there was great
rejoicing.
But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and
hardened their necks, and
hearkened not to thy commandments,
But they and our fathers became
arrogant and stiff-necked and did
not obey Your commandments.
And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou
didst among them; but
hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their
bondage: but thou art a God ready to
pardon,
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them
not.
They refused to
listen and failed to remember the wonders You performed among them. They
stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return them to their
bondage in Egypt. But You are a
forgiving God,
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger and rich in loving devotion, and You did
not forsake them.
Yet thou in thy
manifold mercies forsookest them
not in the wilderness: the
pillar of the cloud departed
not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the
pillar of fire by night, to
shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
You in Your great
compassion did
not forsake them in the wilderness. By day the
pillar of cloud never turned away from guiding them on their path; and by the night the
pillar of fire
illuminated the way they should go.
Thou gavest also thy good spirit to
instruct them, and withheldest
not thy
manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their
thirst.
You gave Your good Spirit to
instruct them. You did
not withhold Your
manna from their mouths, and You gave them water for their
thirst.
Yea, forty years
didst thou
sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked
nothing; their clothes waxed
not old, and their feet swelled
not.
For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and
hearkened not unto thy commandments, but
sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and
hardened their neck, and would
not hear.
You
admonished them to turn back to Your law, but they were
arrogant and disobeyed Your commandments. They
sinned against Your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They
stubbornly shrugged their shoulders; they
stiffened their necks and would
not obey.
Yet many years
didst thou
forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they
not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.
You were patient with them for many years, and Your Spirit
admonished them through Your prophets. Yet they would
not listen, so You gave them into the hands of the
neighboring peoples.
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
So now, our God, the great and mighty and
awesome God who keeps His
gracious covenant, do
not view lightly all the
hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until
today.
Our kings and leaders and priests and fathers did
not obey Your law or
listen to Your commandments and warnings that You gave them.
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
For even while they were in their kingdom, with the abundant goodness that You had given them, and in the
spacious and fertile land that You had set before them, they would
not serve You or turn from their wicked ways.
And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:
We will not give our daughters in marriage to the people of the land, and we will not take their daughters for our sons.
And if the people of the land bring ware or any
victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would
not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the
exaction of every debt.
When the people of the land bring
merchandise or any kind of grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will
not buy from them on a Sabbath or holy day. Every seventh year we will let the fields lie
fallow, and will
cancel every debt.
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the
porters, and the singers: and we will
not forsake the house of our God.
For the Israelites and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers, and the singers stay. Thus we will not neglect the house of our God.”
On that day they read in the book of Moses in the
audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the
Ammonite and the
Moabite should
not come into the congregation of God for ever;
At that time the Book of Moses was read
aloud in the hearing of the people, and in it they found the passage stating that no
Ammonite or
Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,
Because they met
not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but
hired Balaam against them, that he should
curse them:
howbeit our God turned the
curse into a blessing.
because they had
not met the Israelites with food and water, but had
hired Balaam to call down a
curse against them (although our God had turned the
curse into a blessing).
But in all this time was
not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and
thirtieth year of
Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:
While all this was happening, I was
not in Jerusalem, because I had returned to
Artaxerxes king of Babylon in the thirty-second year of his reign. Some time later I obtained leave from the king
And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.
I also learned that because the portions for the Levites had not been given to them, all the Levites and singers responsible for performing the service had gone back to their own fields.
Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and
wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
Remember me for this, O my God, and do
not blot out my deeds of loving devotion for the house of my God and for its services.
Did
not your fathers thus, and did
not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by
profaning the sabbath.
Did
not your forefathers do the same things, so that our God brought all this
disaster on us and on this city? And now you are
rekindling His wrath against Israel by
profaning the Sabbath!”
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem, just before the Sabbath, I ordered that the gates be shut and not opened until after the Sabbath. I posted some of my servants at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.
Then I
testified against them, and said unto them, Why
lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
but I
warned them, “Why are you camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they did
not return on the Sabbath.
And their children spake half in the speech of
Ashdod, and could
not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.
Half of their children spoke the language of
Ashdod or of the other peoples, but could
not speak the language of Judah.
And I
contended with them, and
cursed them, and
smote certain of them, and
plucked off their hair, and made them
swear by God, saying, Ye shall
not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for
yourselves.
I
rebuked them and called down curses on them. I beat some of these men and pulled out their hair. Then I made them take an oath before God and said, “You must
not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters as wives for your sons or for
yourselves!
Did
not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did
outlandish women cause to sin.
Did not King Solomon of Israel sin in matters like this? There was not a king like him among many nations, and he was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel—yet foreign women drew him into sin.
What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath
not performed the commandment of the king
Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
“According to law,” he asked, “what should be done with Queen Vashti, since she refused to obey the command of King
Xerxes delivered by the eunuchs?”
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath
not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus.
And in the presence of the king and his princes, Memucan replied, “Queen Vashti has wronged
not only the king, but all the princes and the peoples in all the provinces of King
Xerxes.
For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall
despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king
Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came
not.
For the conduct of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to
despise their husbands and say, ‘King
Xerxes ordered Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she did
not come.’
If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be
not altered, That Vashti come no more before king
Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
So if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree, and let it be recorded in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be
repealed, that Vashti shall never again enter the presence of King
Xerxes, and that her royal position shall be given to a woman better than she.
And he brought up Hadassah, that is,
Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the
maid was fair and beautiful; whom
Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.
And
Mordecai had brought up Hadassah (that is,
Esther), the daughter of his uncle, because she did
not have a father or mother. The young woman was lovely in form and appearance, and when her father and mother had died,
Mordecai had taken her in as his own daughter.
Esther had
not shewed her people nor her kindred: for
Mordecai had charged her that she should
not shew it.
In the evening she went, and on the
morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the
custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s
chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
She would go there in the evening, and in the morning she would return to a second
harem under the care of Shaashgaz, the king’s
eunuch in charge of the concubines. She would
not return to the king unless he delighted in her and summoned her by name.
Now when the turn of
Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of
Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required
nothing but what Hegai the king’s
chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And
Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Now
Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom
Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her turn to go to the king, she did
not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the
harem, had
advised. And
Esther found favor in the eyes of
everyone who saw her.
Esther had
not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as
Mordecai had charged her: for
Esther did the commandment of
Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.
And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced
Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But
Mordecai bowed
not, nor did him reverence.
All the royal servants at the king’s gate bowed down and paid
homage to
Haman, because the king had commanded that this be done for him. But
Mordecai would
not bow down or pay
homage.
Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he
hearkened not unto them, that they told
Haman, to see whether
Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a
Jew.
And when
Haman saw that
Mordecai bowed
not, nor did him reverence, then was
Haman full of wrath.
And he thought
scorn to lay hands on
Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of
Mordecai: wherefore
Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of
Ahasuerus, even the people of
Mordecai.
And when he learned the identity of
Mordecai’s people, he
scorned the
notion of laying hands on
Mordecai alone. Instead, he sought to destroy all of
Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the kingdom of
Xerxes.
And
Haman said unto king
Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and
dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are
diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is
not for the king’s profit to suffer them.
Then
Haman informed King
Xerxes, “There is a certain people scattered and
dispersed among the peoples of every province of your kingdom. Their laws are different from
everyone else’s, and they do
not obey the king’s laws. So it is
not in the king’s best interest to
tolerate them.
When
Esther’s maidens and eunuchs came and told her about
Mordecai, the queen was overcome with distress. She sent clothes for
Mordecai to wear instead of his
sackcloth, but he would
not accept them.
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is
not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have
not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have
not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
Then
Mordecai commanded to answer
Esther, Think
not with
thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
he sent back to her this reply: “Do not imagine that because you are in the king’s palace you alone will escape the fate of all the Jews.
Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in
Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is
not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
“Go and
assemble all the Jews who can be found in
Susa, and fast for me. Do
not eat or drink for three days, night or day, and I and my maidens will fast as you do. After that, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish!”
Yet all this availeth me
nothing, so long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.
Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
That night sleep escaped the king; so he ordered the Book of Records, the Chronicles, to be brought in and read to him.
And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to
Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is
nothing done for him.
The king inquired, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on
Mordecai for this act?” “
Nothing has been done for him,” replied the king’s attendants.
Then the king said to
Haman, Make
haste, and take the
apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to
Mordecai the
Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let
nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
“
Hurry,” said the king to
Haman, “and do just as you proposed. Take the
robe and the horse to
Mordecai the
Jew, who is sitting at the king’s gate. Do
not neglect anything that you have suggested.”
And
Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had
befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If
Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt
not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since
Mordecai, before whom your
downfall has begun, is Jewish, you will
not prevail against him—for surely you will fall before him.”
For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for
bondmen and
bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could
not countervail the king’s damage.
For my people and I have been sold out to destruction, death, and
annihilation. If we had merely been sold as menservants and maidservants, I would have remained silent, because no such distress would
justify burdening the king.”
The ten sons of
Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews,
slew they; but on the
spoil laid they
not their hand.
They killed these ten sons of
Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, but they did
not lay a hand on the
plunder.
For the Jews that were in
Shushan gathered themselves together on the
fourteenth day also of the month
Adar, and
slew three hundred men at
Shushan; but on the prey they laid
not their hand.
On the
fourteenth day of the month of
Adar, the Jews in
Susa came together again and put to death three hundred men there, but they did
not lay a hand on the
plunder.
But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and
slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid
not their hands on the prey,
The rest of the Jews in the royal provinces also assembled to defend themselves and rid themselves of their enemies. They killed 75,000 who
hated them, but they did
not lay a hand on the
plunder.
The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
the Jews bound themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should
not fail to
celebrate these two days at the appointed time each and every year, according to their regulation.
And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of
Purim should
not fail from among the Jews, nor the
memorial of them perish from their seed.
These days should be remembered and celebrated by every generation, family, province, and city, so that these days of
Purim should
not fail to be observed among the Jews, nor should the memory of them
fade from their descendants.
And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of
Mordecai,
whereunto the king advanced him, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?
And all of
Mordecai’s powerful and magnificent accomplishments, together with the full account of the greatness to which the king had raised him, are they
not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia?
Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for
nothing?
Hast
not thou made an
hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Have You
not placed a
hedge on every side around him and his household and all that he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put
not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
“Very well,” said the LORD to
Satan. “Everything he has is in your hands, but you must
not lay a hand on the man himself.” Then
Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
In all this, Job did
not sin or charge God with
wrongdoing.
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the
foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we
not receive evil? In all this did
not Job sin with his lips.
“You speak as a
foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept from God only good and
not adversity?” In all this, Job did
not sin in what he said.
And when they lifted up their eyes
afar off, and knew him
not, they lifted up their voice, and
wept; and they rent every one his
mantle, and
sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
When they lifted up their eyes from
afar, they could barely recognize Job. They began to
weep aloud, and each man
tore his
robe and threw dust in the air over his head.
Let that day be darkness; let
not God regard it from above, neither let the light
shine upon it.
If only that day had turned to darkness! May God above disregard it; may no light
shine upon it.
As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
If only darkness had taken that night away! May it not appear among the days of the year; may it never be entered in any of the months.
Let the stars of the
twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the
dawning of the day:
May its morning stars grow dark; may it wait in vain for
daylight; may it
not see the breaking of
dawn.
Because it shut
not up the doors of my mother’s
womb, nor
hid sorrow from mine eyes.
For that night did
not shut the doors of the
womb to hide the sorrow from my eyes.
Why died I
not from the
womb? why did I
not give up the ghost when I came out of the
belly?
Why did I
not perish at birth; why did I
not die as I came from the
womb?
Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
Or why was I
not hidden like a
stillborn child, like an infant who never sees
daylight?
There the prisoners rest together; they hear
not the voice of the
oppressor.
Which long for death, but it cometh
not; and
dig for it more than for
hid treasures;
who long for death that does
not come, and search for it like hidden
treasure,
I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
I am not at ease or quiet; I have no rest, for trouble has come.”
Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
Is your reverence not your confidence, and the uprightness of your ways your hope?
It stood still, but I could
not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
It stood still, but I could
not discern its appearance; a form
loomed before my eyes, and I heard a
whispering voice:
Doth not their
excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
Are not their tent cords pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
Although
affliction cometh
not forth of the dust, neither
doth trouble spring out of the ground;
For distress does
not spring from the dust, and trouble does
not sprout from the ground.
Blessed indeed is the man whom God corrects; so do
not despise the discipline of the
Almighty.
Thou shalt be
hid from the
scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
You will be hidden from the
scourge of the tongue, and will
