And he brought
out the
grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the
brook Kidron, and burned it at the
brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.
He brought the Asherah pole from the house of the LORD to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem, and there he burned it, ground it to powder, and threw its dust on the graves of the common people.
And he brought all the priests
out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He
tore down the high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones
out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and
polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he sent someone to take the bones
out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to
defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
“Let him rest,” said
Josiah. “Do not let
anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry
out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
For the LORD had said, “I will remove Judah from My sight, just as I removed Israel. I will
reject this city Jerusalem, which I chose, and the temple of which I said, ‘My Name shall be there.’”
In his days Pharaoh-nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king
Josiah went against him; and he
slew him at
Megiddo, when he had seen him.
At the end of
Josiah’s reign, Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt marched up to help the king of Assyria at the Euphrates River. King
Josiah went
out to
confront him, but Neco faced him and killed him at
Megiddo.
Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them
out of his sight, for the sins of
Manasseh, according to all that he did;
Surely this happened to Judah at the LORD’s command, to remove them from His presence because of the sins of
Manasseh and all that he had done,
And the king of Egypt came not again any more
out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that
pertained to the king of Egypt.
Now the king of Egypt did not march
out of his land again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the
Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
And
Jehoiachin the king of Judah went
out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials all surrendered to the king of Babylon. So in the eighth year of his reign, the king of Babylon took him
captive.
And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
As the LORD had declared,
Nebuchadnezzar also carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them
out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled against the king of Babylon.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
And they
slew the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes, and put
out the eyes of
Zedekiah, and bound him with
fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
And they slaughtered the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put
out his eyes, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon.
And
out of the city he took an officer that was set over the men of war, and five men of them that were in the king’s presence, which were found in the city, and the principal
scribe of the host, which
mustered the people of the land, and
threescore men of the people of the land that were found in the city:
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as five royal advisors. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and
slew them at Riblah in the land of
Hamath. So Judah was carried away
out of their land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, on the seven and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah
out of prison;
On the twenty-seventh day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Judah’s King
Jehoiachin, in the year Evil-merodach became king of Babylon, he released King
Jehoiachin of Judah from prison.
And changed his prison garments: and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life.
So
Jehoiachin changed
out of his prison clothes, and he
dined regularly at the king’s table for the rest of his life.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called
out to the God of Israel, “If only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
The sons of
Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, of
valiant men, men able to bear
buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and
threescore, that went
out to the war.
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh had 44,760 warriors—
valiant men who carried the shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for battle.
And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they
cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.
And because they
cried out to God in battle, they were helped against their enemies, and the Hagrites and all their allies were delivered into their hands. Because they put their trust in God, He answered their prayers.
And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given
Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands. So they had thirteen cities in all among their families.
And unto the sons of
Kohath, which were left of the family of that tribe, were cities given
out of the half tribe, namely,
out of the half tribe of
Manasseh, by lot, ten cities.
To the rest of the Kohathites, ten cities were
allotted from the half-tribe of
Manasseh.
And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families
out of the tribe of
Issachar, and

Bashan, thirteen cities.
Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families,
out of the tribe of
Reuben, and
out of the tribe of
Gad, and
out of the tribe of
Zebulun, twelve cities.
And they gave by lot
out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and
out of the tribe of the children of
Simeon, and
out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.
They assigned by lot the cities named above from the tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And the residue of the families of the sons of
Kohath had cities of their coasts
out of the tribe of Ephraim.
And some of the clans of the Kohathites were given cities from the tribe of Ephraim for their territory:
And
out of the half tribe of
Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs, and Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the
remnant of the sons of
Kohath.
And from the half-tribe of
Manasseh the remaining clans of the Kohathites were given Aner and Bileam, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the sons of Gershom were given
out of the family of the half tribe of
Manasseh, Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, and
Ashtaroth with her suburbs:
The Gershomites received the following: From the clan of the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan and also
Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands.
And
out of the tribe of
Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath with her suburbs,
From the tribe of
Issachar they were given Kedesh, Daberath,
And out of the tribe of Asher; Mashal with her suburbs, and Abdon with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Asher they were given Mashal, Abdon,
And
out of the tribe of
Naphtali; Kedesh in
Galilee with her suburbs, and Hammon with her suburbs, and Kirjathaim with her suburbs.
And from the tribe of
Naphtali they were given Kedesh in
Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given
out of the tribe of
Zebulun.
Rimmon with her suburbs,
Tabor with her suburbs:
The Merarites (the rest of the Levites) received the following: From the tribe of
Zebulun they were given Rimmono and
Tabor, together with their pasturelands.
And on the other side Jordan by
Jericho, on the east side of Jordan, were given them
out of the tribe of
Reuben,
Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs, and Jahzah with her suburbs,
From the tribe of
Reuben east of the Jordan opposite
Jericho they were given
Bezer in the wilderness, Jahzah,
All these the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valour, were seventeen thousand and two hundred soldiers, fit to go out for war and battle.
Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Chenaanah, Zethan,
Tarshish, and Ahishahar. All these sons of Jediael were heads of their families, mighty men of
valor; there were 17,200 fit for battle.
Beriah also, and Shema, who were heads of the fathers of the inhabitants of
Aijalon, who drove away the inhabitants of
Gath:
Eber, Misham, Shemed (who built Ono and Lod with its villages), and Beriah and Shema (who were the heads of families of the inhabitants of
Aijalon and who drove
out the inhabitants of
Gath).
And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
They arose, all the
valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to
Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in
Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
all their men of
valor set
out and
retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to
Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in
Jabesh and fasted seven days.
And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou
wast he that leddest
out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
Even in times past, while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel
out and brought them back. And the LORD your God said, ‘You will
shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
And the three
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water
out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it
out to the LORD,
So the Three broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it
out to the LORD,
And he
slew an Egyptian, a man of great
stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a
spear like a
weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a
spear like a
weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in
hurling stones and shooting arrows
out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin.
they were archers using both the right and left hands to
sling stones and shoot arrows; and they were Saul’s
kinsmen from Benjamin):
And David went
out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went
out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”
And they carried the ark of God in a new
cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio
drave the
cart.
So they carried the ark of God from the house of Abinadab on a new
cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding the
cart.
And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen
stumbled.
When they came to the
threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached
out and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had
stumbled.
And when the Philistines heard that David was
anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went
out against them.
When the Philistines heard that David had been
anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went
out to face them.
So they came up to
Baal-perazim; and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place
Baal-perazim.
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go
out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move
out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched
out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.
So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD
out of the house of Obed-
edom with joy.
So David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went with
rejoicing to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-
edom.
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking
out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she
despised him in her heart.
As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a window and saw King David dancing and
celebrating, and she
despised him in her heart.
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.
Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth.
And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give
thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.
Then cry
out: ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; gather and deliver us from the nations, that we may give
thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.’
For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved from tent to tent and dwelling to dwelling.
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to
redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving
out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed
out of Egypt?
And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went
out to
redeem as a people for Himself? You made a name for
Yourself through great and
awesome wonders by driving
out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
Now after this it came to pass, that David
smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took
Gath and her towns
out of the hand of the Philistines.
Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took
Gath and its villages from the hand of the Philistines.
And David
smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto
Hamath, as he went to
stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
As far as
Hamath, David also defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah, who had marched
out to establish his dominion along the Euphrates River.
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have not his servants come to you to
explore the land,
spy it
out, and overthrow it?”
And when the children of
Ammon saw that they had made themselves
odious to David, Hanun and the children of
Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to
hire them
chariots and
horsemen out of
Mesopotamia, and
out of Syria-maachah, and
out of Zobah.
So they
hired thirty and two thousand
chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of
Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
So they
hired for themselves thirty-two thousand
chariots, as well as the king of
Maacah with his troops, who came and camped near Medeba while the
Ammonites came from their cities and marched
out for battle.
And the children of
Ammon came
out, and put the battle in
array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.
The
Ammonites marched
out and
arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance to the city, while the kings who had come stayed by themselves in the open country.
Now when
Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose
out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in
array against the Syrians.
When
Joab saw the battle lines before him and behind him, he selected some of the best men of Israel and
arrayed them against the Arameans.
And it came to pass, that after the year was
expired, at the time that kings go
out to battle,
Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of
Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried at Jerusalem. And
Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
In the spring, at the time when kings march
out to war,
Joab led
out the army and
ravaged the land of the
Ammonites. He came to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. And
Joab attacked Rabbah and
demolished it.
And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to
weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much
spoil out of the city.
Then David took the crown from the head of their king. It was found to
weigh a talent of gold and was set with precious stones, and it was placed on David’s head. And David took a great amount of
plunder from the city.
And he brought
out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of
Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
David brought
out the people who were there and put them to work with saws, iron picks, and axes. And he did the same to all the
Ammonite cities. Then David and all his troops returned to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at
Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite
slew Sippai, that was of the children of the
giant: and they were subdued.
Some time later, war broke
out with the Philistines at
Gezer. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, a
descendant of the
Rephaim, and the Philistines were subdued.
Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
“Go and tell David that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am offering you three options. Choose one of them, and I will carry it out against you.’”
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched
out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in
sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
When David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched
out over Jerusalem, David and the elders, clothed in
sackcloth, fell facedown.
And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
David came to Ornan, and when Ornan looked
out and saw David, he left the
threshing floor and bowed facedown before David.
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
So the Levites were to carry out the responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting and the Holy Place, and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, the service of the house of the LORD.
And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for
Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came
out northward.
The lot for the East Gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son
Zechariah, a wise
counselor, and the lot for the North Gate fell to him.
Out of the spoils won in battles did they
dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD.
They had dedicated some of the
plunder from their battles to the repair of the house of the LORD.
Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.
From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons had the outside duties as officers and judges over Israel.
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on
rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me
out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries
out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek
out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the
chariot of the cherubims, that spread
out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
the weight of the refined gold for the altar of incense; and the plans for the
chariot of the gold
cherubim that spread their wings and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep and carry out all Your commandments, decrees, and statutes, and to build Your palace for which I have made provision.”
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
Now grant me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may lead this people. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
And they
fetched up, and brought forth
out of Egypt a
chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they
out horses for all the kings of the
Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. Likewise, they exported them to all the kings of the
Hittites and to the kings of
Aram.
And Solomon told
out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and
fourscore thousand to
hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
So he conscripted 70,000
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
Send me also
cedar trees,
fir trees, and
algum trees,
out of
Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in
Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
Send me also
cedar,
cypress, and
algum logs from
Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber there. And indeed, my servants will work with yours
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find
out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
And we will cut wood
out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in flotes by sea to
Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
We will cut logs from
Lebanon, as many as you need, and we will
float them to you as rafts by sea down to
Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”
Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.
Solomon made all these articles in such great abundance that the weight of the bronze could not be determined.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD
out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
And they drew
out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came
out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come
out of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were come
out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were
sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people
out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
For Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread
out his hands toward heaven,
Then what prayer or what
supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own
sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
