Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.
Then the nations set out against him from the provinces on every side. They spread their net
over him; he was
trapped in their pit.
Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with
fury poured out, will I rule
over you:
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, with a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath I will rule over you.
I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.
A ruin, a ruin, I will make it a ruin! And it will not be restored until the arrival of Him to whom it belongs, to whom I have assigned the right of judgment.’
And I will pour out mine
indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of
brutish men, and skilful to destroy.
I will pour out My anger upon you; I will
breathe the fire of My
fury against you; I will hand you
over to
brutal men, skilled in destruction.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast
clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and
rejoiced in heart with all thy
despite against the land of Israel;
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you
clapped your hands and stomped your feet and
rejoiced over the land of Israel with a heart full of contempt,
Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their
broidered garments: they shall
clothe themselves with
trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall
tremble at every moment, and be
astonished at thee.
All the princes of the sea will descend from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their
embroidered garments. Clothed with terror, they will sit on the ground,
trembling every moment,
appalled over you.
And they shall make themselves utterly
bald for thee, and
gird them with
sackcloth, and they shall
weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter
wailing.
And in their
wailing they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and
lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?
As they
wail and
mourn over you, they will take up a
lament for you: ‘Who was ever like Tyre, silenced in the middle of the sea?
All the inhabitants of the isles shall be
astonished at thee, and their kings shall be
sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.
All they that know thee among the people shall be
astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
All the nations who know you are
appalled over you. You have come to a
horrible end and will be no more.’”
It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it
exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule
over the nations.
Egypt will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again
exalt itself above the nations. For I will diminish Egypt so that it will never again rule
over the nations.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will spread My net over you with a company of many peoples, and they will draw you up in My net.
All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.
All the
shining lights in the heavens I will
darken over you, and I will bring darkness upon your land,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Yea, I will make many people
amazed at thee, and their kings shall be
horribly afraid for thee, when I shall
brandish my sword before them; and they shall
tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall.
I will cause many peoples to be
appalled over you, and their kings will
shudder in
horror because of you when I
brandish My sword before them. On the day of your
downfall each of them will
tremble every moment for his life.’
This is the
lamentation wherewith they shall
lament her: the daughters of the nations shall
lament her: they shall
lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
This is the
lament they will
chant for her; the daughters of the nations will
chant it.
Over Egypt and all her multitudes they will
chant it, declares the Lord GOD.”
Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all his multitude— Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.
My sheep
wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill:
yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.
My flock went
astray on all the mountains and every high hill. They were scattered
over the face of all the earth, with no one to search for them or seek them out.’
And I will set up one
shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their
shepherd.
I will
appoint over them one
shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them. He will feed them and be their
shepherd.
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their
calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
Because you
harbored an ancient hatred and delivered the Israelites
over to the sword in the time of their
disaster at the final stage of their punishment,
Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee:
sith thou hast not
hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.
therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will give you
over to
bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not
hate bloodshed, it will pursue you.
And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and one king will rule over all of them. Then they will no longer be two nations and will never again be divided into two kingdoms.
And David my servant shall be king
over them; and they all shall have one
shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
My servant David will be king
over them, and there will be one
shepherd for all of them. They will follow My ordinances and keep and observe My statutes.
And I will
plead against him with
pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an
overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and
brimstone.
I will
execute judgment upon him with plague and
bloodshed. I will pour out torrents of rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.
And the
pavement by the side of the gates
over against the length of the gates was the lower
pavement.
which
flanked the gateways and corresponded to the length of the gates; this was the lower
pavement.
And the gate of the inner court was over against the gate toward the north, and toward the east; and he measured from gate to gate an hundred cubits.
There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured the distance from
gateway to
gateway to be a hundred cubits.
And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.
The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
And he measured the length of the building
over against the separate place which was behind it, and the
galleries thereof on the one side and on the other side, an hundred cubits, with the inner temple, and the porches of the court;
Next he measured the length of the building facing the temple
courtyard at the rear of the temple, including its
galleries on each side; it was a hundred cubits. The outer sanctuary, the inner sanctuary, and the
porticoes facing the court,
The door posts, and the narrow windows, and the
galleries round about on their three stories,
over against the door, cieled with wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered;
as well as the thresholds and the
beveled windows and the
galleries all around with their three levels opposite the
threshold, were
overlaid with wood on all sides. They were
paneled from the ground to the windows, and the windows were covered.
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.
Then the man led me out northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple
courtyard and the outer wall on the north side.
Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and
over against the
pavement which was for the utter court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.
Gallery faced gallery in three levels opposite the twenty cubits that belonged to the inner court and opposite the
pavement that belonged to the outer court.
And the wall that was without
over against the chambers, toward the utter court on the
forepart of the chambers, the length thereof was fifty cubits.
An outer wall in front of the chambers was fifty cubits long and ran parallel to the chambers and the outer court.
The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, over against the separate place, and over against the building.
On the south side along the length of the wall of the outer court were chambers adjoining the
courtyard and opposite the building,
And ye shall
appoint the possession of the city five thousand broad, and five and twenty thousand long,
over against the
oblation of the holy portion: it shall be for the whole house of Israel.
As the property of the city, you are to set aside an area 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, adjacent to the holy district. It will belong to the whole house of Israel.
And a portion shall be for the prince on the one side and on the other side of the
oblation of the holy portion, and of the possession of the city, before the
oblation of the holy portion, and before the possession of the city, from the west side westward, and from the east side eastward: and the length shall be
over against one of the portions, from the west border unto the east border.
Now the prince will have the area bordering each side of the area formed by the holy district and the property of the city, extending westward from the western side and eastward from the eastern side, running
lengthwise from the western boundary to the eastern boundary and parallel to one of the
tribal portions.
But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it.
When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts,
whoever enters by the north gate to worship must go out by the south gate, and
whoever enters by the south gate must go out by the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which he entered, but each must go out by the opposite gate.
Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass
over: for the waters were risen, waters to
swim in, a river that could not be passed
over.
Once again he measured off a thousand cubits, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough for
swimming—a river that could not be crossed on foot.
The west side also shall be the great sea from the border, till a man come
over against
Hamath. This is the west side.
And on the west side, the Great Sea will be the boundary up to a point opposite Lebo-
hamath. This will be the western boundary.
And over against the border of the priests the Levites shall have five and twenty thousand in length, and ten thousand in breadth: all the length shall be five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand.
Bordering the territory of the priests, the Levites shall have an area 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide. The whole length will be 25,000 cubits, and the width 10,000 cubits.
And the five thousand, that are left in the breadth
over against the five and twenty thousand, shall be a
profane place for the city, for dwelling, and for suburbs: and the city shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area, 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it
And the residue in length
over against the
oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be
over against the
oblation of the holy portion; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city.
The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy
oblation, and of the possession of the city,
over against the five and twenty thousand of the
oblation toward the east border, and westward
over against the five and twenty thousand toward the west border,
over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the holy
oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the
tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set
over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah,
Then Daniel said to the
steward whom the chief official had appointed
over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah,
And
wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler
over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
Wherever the sons of men or beasts of the field or birds of the air dwell, He has given them into your hand and has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
But after you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule the whole earth.
Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler
over the entire province of Babylon and chief
administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.
Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego,
over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
And at Daniel’s request, the king appointed
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego to
manage the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court.
There are certain Jews whom thou hast set
over the affairs of the province of Babylon,
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
But there are some Jews you have appointed to
manage the province of Babylon—
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego—who have
ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
Let his mind be changed from that of a man, and let him be given the mind of a beast till seven times pass him by.
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will, and setteth up
over it the basest of men.
This decision is the decree of the watchers, the
verdict declared by the holy ones, so that the living will know that the Most High rules
over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes, setting
over it the lowliest of men.’
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass
over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass
over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules
over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass
over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote
over against the
candlestick upon the
plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
At that moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the
plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. As the king watched the hand that was writing,
And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild
asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the
dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth
over it
whomsoever he will.
He was driven away from mankind, and his mind was like that of a beast. He lived with the wild
donkeys and
ate grass like an ox, and his body was
drenched with the
dew of heaven until he acknowledged that the Most High God rules
over the kingdom of mankind, setting
over it whom He wishes.
PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
PERES means that your kingdom has been divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.”
It pleased
Darius to set
over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be
over the whole kingdom;
Now it pleased
Darius to
appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom,
And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
and over them three administrators, including Daniel, to whom these satraps were accountable so that the king would not suffer loss.
Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king
planned to set him
over the whole kingdom.
And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own
signet, and with the
signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
A stone was brought and placed
over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own
signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that nothing concerning Daniel could be changed.
Then was the king exceeding
glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of
hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
The king was
overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds
whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the
mastery of them, and
brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
At the command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions
overpowered them and
crushed all their bones.
In the first year of
Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
In the first year of the reign of
Belshazzar over Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is the summary of his account.
Yea, he
magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
It
magnified itself, even to the Prince of the host; it removed His daily sacrifice and
overthrew the place of His sanctuary.
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of
transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and
prospered.
And in the rebellion, the host and the daily sacrifice were given
over to the horn, and it
flung truth to the ground and
prospered in whatever it did.
In the first year of
Darius the son of
Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king
over the realm of the Chaldeans;
In the first year of
Darius son of
Xerxes, a
Mede by descent, who was made ruler
over the kingdom of the Chaldeans—
And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the
overspreading of abominations he shall make it
desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
And he will
confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the
abomination that causes
desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”
And, behold, one like the
similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and said to the one standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am
overcome with
anguish, and I have no strength.
But his sons shall be
stirred up, and shall
assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and
overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be
stirred up, even to his fortress.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to
overthrow the kingdom, but his plan will not succeed or help him.
And with the arms of a flood shall they be
overflown from before him, and shall be broken;
yea, also the prince of the covenant.
Then a flood of forces will be swept away before him and destroyed, along with a prince of the covenant.
Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall
overflow: and many shall fall down slain.
Those who eat from his provisions will seek to destroy him; his army will be swept away, and many will fall slain.
Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
He will attack the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing the land for a price.
And at the time of the end shall the king of the south
push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a
whirlwind, with
chariots, and with
horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall
overflow and pass
over.
At the time of the end, the king of the South will
engage him in battle, but the king of the North will storm out against him with
chariots,
horsemen, and many ships,
invading many countries and
sweeping through them like a flood.
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be
overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even
Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of
Ammon.
He will also
invade the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall. But these will be delivered from his hand:
Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the
Ammonites.
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
He will extend his power over many countries, and not even the land of Egypt will escape.
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and over all the riches of Egypt, and the Libyans and Cushites will also submit to him.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
“At that time Michael, the great prince who stands watch
over your people, will rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will
chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
As they go, I will spread My net
over them; I will bring them down like birds of the air. I will
chastise them when I hear them flocking together.
Set the
trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have
transgressed my covenant, and
trespassed against my law.
Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms
over the house of the LORD, because the people have
transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up,
Memphis shall
bury them: the pleasant places for their silver,
nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
For even if they
flee destruction, Egypt will gather them and
Memphis will
bury them. Their precious silver will be taken
over by thistles, and thorns will
overrun their tents.
The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the
calves of Beth-
aven: for the people thereof shall
mourn over it, and the priests thereof that
rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
The people of Samaria will fear for the
calf of Beth-
aven. Indeed, its people will
mourn with its
idolatrous priests— those who
rejoiced in its glory— for it has been taken from them into exile.
The high places also of
Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the
thorn and the
thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
The high places of
Aven will be destroyed— it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will
overgrow their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”
O Israel, thou hast
sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not
overtake them.
Since the days of Gibeah you have
sinned, O Israel, and there you have remained. Did not the battle in Gibeah
overtake the sons of iniquity?
And Ephraim is as an
heifer that is taught, and loveth to
tread out the corn; but I passed
over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to
ride; Judah shall
plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
Ephraim is a well-trained
heifer that loves to
thresh; but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will
harness Ephraim, Judah will
plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
Yea, he had power
over the angel, and prevailed: he
wept, and made
supplication unto him: he found him in
Bethel, and there he spake with us;
Yes, he struggled with the angel and prevailed; he
wept and sought His favor; he found Him at
Bethel and spoke with Him there—
Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green
fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
O Ephraim, what have I to do anymore with idols? It is I who answer and watch
over him. I am like a flourishing
cypress; your fruit comes from Me.
Be ye
ashamed, O ye
husbandmen;
howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
Be dismayed, O farmers,
wail, O vinedressers,
over the wheat and barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.
A day of darkness and of
gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
a day of darkness and
gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like the
dawn overspreading the mountains a great and strong army appears, such as never was of old, nor will ever be in ages to come.
Like the noise of
chariots on the tops of mountains shall they
leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the
stubble, as a strong people set in battle
array.
Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD,
weep between the
porch and the altar, and let them say,
Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule
over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
Let the priests who minister before the LORD
weep between the
portico and the altar, saying, “
Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not make Your
heritage a reproach, an object of
scorn among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
The
threshing floors will be full of grain, and the vats will
overflow with new wine and oil.
Put ye in the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats
overflow; for their wickedness is great.
Swing the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come,
trample the grapes, for the winepress is full; the wine vats
overflow because their wickedness is great.
So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in
Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who dwells in
Zion, My holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy, never again to be
overrun by foreigners.
I have
overthrown some of you, as God
overthrew Sodom and
Gomorrah, and ye were as a
firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and
Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
He who made the
Pleiades and
Orion, who turns darkness into
dawn and darkens day into night, who
summons the waters of the sea and pours them
over the face of the earth— the LORD is His name—
Pass ye unto
Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to
Hamath the great: then go down to
Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
Cross
over to
Calneh and see; go from there to the great
Hamath; then go down to
Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?
You drink wine by the bowlful and
anoint yourselves with the finest oils, but you fail to
grieve over the ruin of Joseph.
Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the
ephah small, and the
shekel great, and
falsifying the balances by
deceit?
asking, “When will the New Moon be
over, that we may sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, that we may market wheat? Let us reduce the
ephah and increase the
shekel; let us
cheat with
dishonest scales.
