rob a
poor man because he is
poor, and do not
crush the

poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my God.

needy.

admonished.

poor, and violent

vineyard; the

needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the

equity He will decide for the lowly of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth and
slay the wicked with the breath of His lips.

needy will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root by famine, and your
remnant will be slain.

poor, a strength to the

poor, a
stronghold for the
needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath of the
ruthless is like rain against a wall,
The foot shall
tread it down, even the feet of the
poor, and the steps of the

poor among men shall
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

poor among men will
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The instruments also of the
churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the
poor with lying words, even when the
needy speaketh right.

plea of the
needy is just.

poor and
needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for
thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not
forsake them.

parched with
thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not
forsake them.
Is it not to deal thy bread to the
hungry, and that thou bring the
poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with the
hungry, to bring the
poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath
anointed me to
preach good
tidings unto the
meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has
anointed Me to
preach good news to the
poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the
captives and freedom to the prisoners,
For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is
poor and of a
contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” declares the LORD. “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and
contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word.
Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Moreover, your skirts are
stained with the blood of the innocent
poor, though you did not find them breaking in. But in spite of all these things
Therefore I said, Surely these are
poor; they are
foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
Then I said, “They are only the
poor; they have played the
fool, for they do not know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.

poor and
needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.

poor and
needy, and so it went well with him. Is this not what it means to know Me?” declares the LORD.
One
basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other
basket had very
naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
One
basket had very good figs, like those that
ripen early, but the other
basket contained very
poor figs, so bad they could not be eaten.

Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the
poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the
poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Babylon,
Then Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive certain of the
poor of the people, and the residue of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.
Then Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried into exile some of the
poorest people and those who remained in the city, along with the deserters who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the
craftsmen.
But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard left certain of the
poor of the land for vinedressers and for
husbandmen.
But Nebuzaradan captain of the guard left behind some of the poorest of the land to tend the vineyards and fields.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister
Sodom, pride,
fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she
strengthen the hand of the
poor and
needy.
Now this was the iniquity of your sister
Sodom: She and her daughters were
arrogant, overfed, and
complacent; they did not help the
poor and
needy.

poor and
needy; he commits
robbery and does not restore a
pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he commits abominations.
That hath taken off his hand from the
poor, that hath not received
usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
He withholds his hand from
harming the
poor and takes no interest or
usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
The people of the land have practiced
extortion and committed
robbery. They have
oppressed the
poor and
needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice.
Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine
iniquities by
shewing mercy to the
poor; if it may be a
lengthening of thy tranquility.
Therefore, may my advice be pleasing to you, O king. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your
iniquities by showing mercy to the
oppressed. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the
poor for a pair of
shoes;
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Israel, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the
needy for a pair of
sandals.
That
pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the
poor, and turn aside the way of the
meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same
maid, to
profane my holy name:
They
trample on the heads of the
poor as on the dust of the earth; they
push the
needy out of their way. A man and his father have relations with the same
girl and so
profane My holy name.
Hear this word, ye
kine of
Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which
oppress the
poor, which
crush the
needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
Hear this word, you cows of
Bashan on Mount Samaria, you women who
oppress the
poor and
crush the
needy, who say to your husbands, “Bring us more to drink.”
Forasmuch therefore as your
treading is upon the
poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of
hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
Therefore, because you
trample on the
poor and exact from him a tax of grain, you will never live in the stone houses you have built; you will never drink the wine from the
lush vineyards you have planted.
For I know your
manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they
afflict the just, they take a
bribe, and they turn aside the
poor in the gate from their right.
For I know that your transgressions are many and your sins are numerous. You
oppress the righteous by taking bribes; you deprive the
poor of justice in the gate.
Hear this, O ye that
swallow up the
needy, even to make the
poor of the land to fail,
Hear this, you who
trample the
needy, who do away with the
poor of the land,
That we may
buy the
poor for silver, and the
needy for a pair of
shoes;
yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
Let us
buy the
poor with silver and the
needy for a pair of
sandals, selling even the
chaff with the wheat!”
With his own
spear You pierced his head, when his warriors stormed out to
scatter us,
gloating as though ready to secretly
devour the weak.
I will also leave in the midst of thee an
afflicted and
poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.
But I will leave within you a
meek and humble people, and they will trust in the name of the LORD.
And
oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the
poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
Do not
oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the
poor. And do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’
And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O
poor of the flock. And I took unto me two
staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
So I pastured the flock marked for slaughter, especially the
afflicted of the flock. Then I took for myself two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the flock.
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
It was
revoked on that day, and so the
afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The blind receive their sight, and the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, and the
deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
The blind receive sight, the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the
poor.
Jesus said unto him, If thou
wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the
poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
For this
ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the
poor.
This
perfume could have been sold at a high price, and the money given to the
poor.”
For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell
whatsoever thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Jesus looked at him, loved him, and said to him, “There is one thing you lack: Go, sell everything you own and give to the
poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And there came a certain
poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a
farthing.
Then one
poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amounted to a small fraction of a
denarius.
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That this
poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more than all the others into the treasury.
For it might have been sold for more than three hundred
pence, and have been given to the
poor. And they
murmured against her.
It could have been sold for over three hundred
denarii and the money given to the
poor.” And they
scolded her.
For ye have the
poor with you always, and
whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have Me.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to
preach the gospel to the
poor; he hath sent me to
heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are
bruised,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has
anointed Me to
preach good news to the
poor. He has sent Me to
proclaim liberty to the
captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the
oppressed,
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the
poor the gospel is preached.
So He replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the
poor.
Sell that ye have, and give
alms; provide
yourselves bags which wax not old, a
treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no
thief approacheth, neither
moth corrupteth.
But when thou makest a feast, call the
poor, the
maimed, the
lame, the blind:
So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being
angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in
hither the
poor, and the
maimed, and the
halt, and the blind.
The servant returned and reported all this to his master. Then the owner of the house became
angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and
alleys of the city, and bring in the
poor, the
crippled, the blind, and the
lame.’
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the
poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
On hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the
poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the
poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false
accusation, I restore him
fourfold.
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, half of my possessions I give to the
poor, and if I have
cheated anyone, I will repay it
fourfold.”
And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
and He saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.
And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
“Truly I tell you,” He said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.
Why was not this
ointment sold for three hundred
pence, and given to the
poor?
“Why wasn’t this
perfume sold for three hundred
denarii and the money given to the
poor?”
This he said, not that he cared for the
poor; but because he was a
thief, and had the
bag, and bare what was put therein.
Judas did not say this because he cared about the
poor, but because he was a
thief. As keeper of the money
bag, he used to take from what was put into it.
For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.”
For some of them thought, because
Judas had the
bag, that Jesus had said unto him,
Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the
poor.
Since
Judas kept the money
bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him to
buy what was needed for the feast, or to give something to the
poor.
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine
alms are come up for a
memorial before God.
Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the
poor have ascended as a
memorial offering before God.
and said, ‘
Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the
poor have been remembered before God.
For it hath pleased them of
Macedonia and
Achaia to make a certain contribution for the
poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
For
Macedonia and
Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the
poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and
thirst, and are naked, and are
buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
To this very hour we are
hungry and
thirsty, we are
poorly clothed, we are
brutally treated, we are homeless.
And though I
bestow all my goods to feed the
poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
If I give all I possess to the
poor and
exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.
