Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number
put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he
put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be
put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
And he made chains, as in the
oracle, and
put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and
put them on the chains.
He made
interwoven chains and
put them on top of the pillars. He made a hundred pomegranates and fastened them into the
chainwork.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and placed five on the south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the priests used the Sea for washing.
And he set the sea on the right side of the east end, over against the south.
He
put the Sea on the south side, at the
southeast corner.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses
put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place
whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest
put thy name there; to
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
And if thy people Israel be
put to the worse before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee; and shall return and
confess thy name, and pray and make
supplication before thee in this house;
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your name, praying and
pleading before You in this temple,
And three hundred shields made he of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold went to one shield. And the king
put them in the house of the forest of
Lebanon.
He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; three hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. And the king
put them in the House of the Forest of
Lebanon.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had
put in his heart.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he
put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“Your father
put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he
put on us, and we will serve you.”
And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father
put on us’?”
For whereas my father
put a heavy yoke upon you, I will
put more to your yoke: my father
chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.’”
And he fortified the strong holds, and
put captains in them, and store of
victual, and of oil and wine.
He strengthened their fortresses and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.
And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
He also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
So king
Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to
put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus King
Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to
put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and
put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
That
whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be
put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
And
whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be
put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
Then
Asa was
wroth with the
seer, and
put him in a prison house; for he was in a
rage with him because of this thing. And
Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
And he placed forces in all the
fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which
Asa his father had taken.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and
put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father
Asa had captured.
These waited on the king, beside those whom the king
put in the
fenced cities throughout all Judah.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
So you see, the LORD has
put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
And say, Thus saith the king,
Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I return in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and will go to the battle; but
put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel
disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into battle.
Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and
slew all his brethren with the sword, and
divers also of the princes of Israel.
When Jehoram had established himself over his father’s kingdom, he strengthened himself by putting to the sword all his brothers along with some of the princes of Israel.
And he sought
Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was
hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s soldiers captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and
put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” So no one was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and
put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she
put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, was
Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and
whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be
put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
The Levites must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who enters the temple must be
put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
Then they brought out the king’s son, and
put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons
anointed him, and said, God save the king.
Then Jehoiada and his sons brought out the king’s son,
put the crown on him, presented him with the Testimony, and proclaimed him king. They
anointed him and
shouted, “Long live the king!”
Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and
whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said,
Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest sent out the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, saying, “Bring her out between the ranks, and
put to the sword
anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be
put to death in the house of the LORD.”
So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they
slew her there.
So they seized
Athaliah as she reached the entrance of the Horse Gate to the palace grounds, and there they
put her to death.
Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with
rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
Moreover, Jehoiada
put the oversight of the house of the LORD into the hands of the
Levitical priests, whom David had appointed over the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD as is written in the Law of Moses, with
rejoicing and song, as ordained by David.
And all the people of the land
rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain
Athaliah with the sword.
and all the people of the land
rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because
Athaliah had been
put to the sword.
But he
slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
Yet he did not put their sons to death, but acted according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his own home.
And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the
captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and
arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and
anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon
asses, and brought them to
Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Then the men who were designated by name arose, took charge of the
captives, and provided from the
plunder clothing for the naked. They clothed them, gave them
sandals and food and drink,
anointed their wounds, and
put all the feeble on
donkeys. So they brought them to
Jericho, the City of Palms, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
Also they have shut up the doors of the
porch, and
put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.
They also shut the doors of the
portico and
extinguished the lamps. They did not burn incense or present burnt offerings in the Holy Place of the God of Israel.
And the priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an
atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
And the priests slaughtered the goats and
put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to make
atonement for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.
And he set a carved image, the
idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I
put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved image he had made and set it up in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took
Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with
fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
So the LORD brought against them the military commanders of the king of Assyria, who captured
Manasseh,
put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon.
Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of
Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and
put captains of war in all the
fenced cities of Judah.
After this,
Manasseh rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David from west of
Gihon in the valley to the entrance of the Fish Gate, and he brought it around the hill of Ophel and
heightened it considerably. He also stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.
And they
put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and
amend the house:
They put it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work of the house of the LORD, who in turn gave it to the workmen restoring and repairing the house of the LORD.
And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.
They have paid out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have put it into the hands of the supervisors and workers.”
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD,
Josiah said: “
Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.
His servants therefore took him out of that
chariot, and
put him in the second
chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the
sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem
mourned for
Josiah.
So his servants took him out of his
chariot,
put him in his second
chariot, and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died. And
Josiah was buried in the tomb of his fathers, and all Judah and Jerusalem
mourned for him.
And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the king of Egypt
dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and
put them in his temple at Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon some of the articles from the house of the LORD, and he
put them in his temple in Babylon.
Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who
slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no
compassion upon young man or
maiden, old man, or him that
stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who
put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,
sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm. God gave them all into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar,
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and
put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom and to
put it in writing as follows:
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and
put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom and to
put it in writing as follows:
Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which
Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had
put them in the house of his gods;
King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and placed in the temple of his gods.
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as
polluted,
put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
and
instructed, ‘Take these articles,
put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.’
And the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall
put to their hand to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I
Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.
May God, who has caused His Name to dwell there, overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to alter this decree or to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem. I,
Darius, have issued the decree. Let it be carried out with
diligence.
Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath
put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to
beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:
Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put into the heart of the king to so honor the house of the LORD in Jerusalem,
Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great
trespass unto this day; and for our
iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a
spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
From the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our
iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and
put to the sword and captivity, to
pillage and
humiliation, as we are this day.
Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to
put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that
tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who
tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
And they gave their hands that they would
put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their
trespass.
Maaseiah,
Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah. They
pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had
put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I
rode upon.
I set out at night with a few men. I did not tell
anyone what my God had laid on my heart to do for Jerusalem. The only animal with me was the one on which I was riding.
And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.
Next to him, the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.
And our
adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and
slay them, and cause the work to cease.
And our enemies said, “Before they know or see a thing, we will come into their midst, kill them, and put an end to the work.”
So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.
So neither I nor my brothers nor my servants nor the guards with me changed out of our clothes; each carried his weapon, even to go for water.
My God, think thou upon
Tobiah and
Sanballat according to these their works, and on the
prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have
put me in fear.
Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And
Tobiah sent letters to
put me in fear.
Moreover, these nobles kept reporting to me
Tobiah’s good deeds, and they relayed my words to him. And
Tobiah sent letters to
intimidate me.
That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
Then I put my brother Hanani in charge of Jerusalem, along with Hananiah the commander of the fortress, because he was a faithful man who feared God more than most.
And my God
put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by
genealogy. And I found a register of the
genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,
Then my God
put it into my heart to
assemble the nobles, the officials, and the people to be
enrolled by
genealogy. I found the
genealogical register of those who had first returned, and I found the following written in it:
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as
polluted,
put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.
In view of all this, we make a binding agreement, putting it in writing and sealing it with the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests.”
And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto
Tobiah:
Now before this, Eliashib the priest, a relative of
Tobiah, had been
put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God
When
Mordecai perceived all that was done,
Mordecai rent his clothes, and
put on
sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and
cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
When
Mordecai learned of all that had happened, he
tore his clothes,
put on
sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the middle of the city,
wailing loudly and bitterly.
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to
put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned—that he be
put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
Now it came to pass on the third day, that
Esther put on her royal
apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
On the third day,
Esther put on her royal
attire and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.
And
Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and
besought him with tears to
put away the mischief of
Haman the Agagite, and his
device that he had devised against the Jews.
And once again,
Esther addressed the king. She fell at his feet
weeping and
begged him to
revoke the evil scheme of
Haman the Agagite, which he had devised against the Jews.
Now in the
twelfth month, that is, the month
Adar, on the
thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be
put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that
hated them;)
On the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, the month of
Adar, the king’s command and edict were to be executed. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but their plan was overturned and the Jews overpowered those who
hated them.
Thus the Jews
smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that
hated them.
The Jews
put all their enemies to the sword, killing and destroying them, and they did as they pleased to those who
hated them.
For the Jews that were in
Shushan gathered themselves together on the
fourteenth day also of the month
Adar, and
slew three hundred men at
Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.
On the
fourteenth day of the month of
Adar, the Jews in
Susa came together again and
put to death three hundred men there, but they did not lay a hand on the
plunder.
But
put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself
put not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
“Very well,” said the LORD to
Satan. “Everything he has is in your hands, but you must not lay a hand on the man himself.” Then
Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
And the
Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away;
yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
the
Sabeans swooped down and took them away. They
put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away,
yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands,
raided the camels, and took them away. They
put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
But
put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
For my
sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
I
sigh when food is
put before me, and my groans pour out like water.
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
If God puts no trust in His servants, and He charges His angels with error,
Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee
ashamed?
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
if you put away the iniquity in your hand, and allow no injustice to dwell in your tents,
Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
Why do I put myself at risk and take my life in my own hands?
Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
You put my feet in the stocks and stand watch over all my paths; You set a limit for the soles of my feet.
Yet through the
scent of water it will
bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
Behold, he
putteth no trust in his saints;
yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes,
Lay down now,
put me in a
surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be
put out, and the
spark of his fire shall not
shine.
Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is
extinguished; the flame of his fire does not
glow.
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his
candle shall be
put out with him.
The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.
He hath
put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are
verily estranged from me.
He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me.
Mark me, and be
astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
Look at me and be
appalled;
put your hand over your mouth.
How
oft is the
candle of the wicked
put out! and how
oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
How often is the lamp of the wicked
put out? Does
disaster come upon them? Does God, in His anger,
apportion destruction?
