And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’
And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward over against the south.
He set five stands on the south side of the temple and five on the north, and he
put the Sea on the south side, at the
southeast corner of the temple.
So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.
So all the work that King Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses
put there at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of the land of Egypt.
And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy
supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have
hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to
put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and petition before Me. I have consecrated this temple you have built by
putting My Name there
forever; My eyes and My heart will be there for all time.
And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three pound of gold went to one shield: and the king
put them in the house of the forest of
Lebanon.
He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; three
minas of gold went into each shield. And the king
put them in the House of the Forest of
Lebanon.
And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
The whole world sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had
put in his heart.
And the man
Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and Solomon seeing the young man that he was
industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.
Now
Jeroboam was a mighty man of
valor. So when Solomon noticed that the young man was
industrious, he
put him in charge of the whole labor force of the house of Joseph.
And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light
alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to
put my name there.
I will give one tribe to his son, so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put My Name.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore make thou the
grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he
put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
“Your father
put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he
put on us, and we will serve you.”
And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father
put on us’?”
And he set the one in
Bethel, and the other
put he in
Dan.
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the altar in
Bethel, that he
put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he
put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who was at the altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out his hand and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it back.
And
Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah.
Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to
put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Meanwhile,
Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to
put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And he said, What have I
sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of
Ahab, to
slay me?
But
Obadiah replied, “How have I
sinned, that you are handing your servant over to
Ahab to
put me to death?
Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one
bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and
put no fire under: and I will dress the other
bullock, and lay it on wood, and
put no fire under:
Get two bulls for us. Let the prophets of
Baal choose one bull for themselves, cut it into pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. And I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire.
And
Elijah said unto the prophets of
Baal, Choose you one
bullock for
yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but
put no fire under.
Then
Elijah said to the prophets of
Baal, “Since you are so numerous, choose for
yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.”
And he
put the wood in order, and cut the
bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, placed it on the wood,
So
Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And
Elijah went up to the top of
Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and
put his face between his knees,
So
Ahab went up to eat and drink. But
Elijah climbed to the summit of
Carmel, bent down on the ground, and
put his face between his knees.
And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of
Hazael shall
Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of
Jehu shall
Elisha slay.
Yet I will send my servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall
put it in their hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will send my servants to search your palace and the houses of your servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his
harness boast himself as he that
putteth it off.
And the king of Israel replied, “Tell him: ‘The one
putting on his
armor should not
boast like one taking it off.’”
And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
So do this: Dismiss all the kings from their positions and replace them with other officers.
And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are
merciful kings: let us, I pray thee,
put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel:
peradventure he will save thy life.
Then the servants of Ben-
hadad said to him, “Look now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are
merciful. Let us go out to the king of Israel with
sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will
spare your life.”
So they
girded sackcloth on their loins, and
put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-
hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
So with
sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-
hadad says, ‘Please
spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
And it came to pass, when
Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and
put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in
sackcloth, and went softly.
And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having
put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets
prophesied before them.
Dressed in royal
attire, the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets
prophesying before them.
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
So you see, the LORD has
put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
And say, Thus saith the king,
Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I come in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but
put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel
disguised himself, and went into the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into battle.
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and
put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,”
Elisha replied.
And he said, Bring me a new
cruse, and
put salt therein. And they bring it to him.
“Bring me a new
bowl,” he replied, “and
put some salt in it.” So they brought it to him,
And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he
put away the image of
Baal that his father had made.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had done. He removed the sacred
pillar of
Baal that his father had made.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
Now all the Moabites had heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. So all who could bear arms, young and old, were summoned and stationed at the border.
Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a
stool, and a
candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
Please let us make a small room
upstairs and
put in it a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp for him. Then when he comes to us, he can stay there.”
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then
Elisha got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eye to eye, and hand to hand. As he stretched himself out over him, the boy’s body became warm.
And
Elisha came again to
Gilgal: and there was a
dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and
seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
When
Elisha returned to
Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting at his feet, he said to his
attendant, “
Put on the large pot and
boil some
stew for the sons of the prophets.”
Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
“Lift it out,” he said, and the man reached out his hand and took it.
Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and
put it under him on the top of the stairs, and
blew with
trumpets, saying,
Jehu is king.
Quickly, each man took his garment and
put it under
Jehu on the bare steps. Then they
blew the ram’s horn and proclaimed, “
Jehu is king!”
And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and
slew seventy persons, and
put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to
Jezreel.
And when the letter arrived, they took the sons of the king and slaughtered all seventy of them. They
put their heads in baskets and sent them to
Jehu at
Jezreel.
And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that
Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and
slay them; let none come forth. And they
smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of
Baal.
When he had finished making the burnt offering,
Jehu said to the guards and officers, “Go in and kill them. Do not let
anyone out.” So the guards and officers
put them to the sword, threw the bodies out, and went into the inner room of the temple of
Baal.
But Jehosheba daughter of King
Joram, the sister of
Ahaziah, took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered. She
put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom to hide him from
Athaliah, and he was not killed.
And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and
fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king’s son.
Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and had them brought into the house of the LORD. There he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
You must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who approaches the ranks must be
put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
And he brought forth the king’s son, and
put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and
anointed him; and they
clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
Then Jehoiada brought out the king’s son,
put the crown on him, presented him with the Testimony, and proclaimed him king. They
anointed him, and the people
clapped their hands and declared, “Long live the king!”
But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and
put to the sword
anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be
put to death in the house of the LORD.”
And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
So they seized
Athaliah as she reached the horses’ entrance to the palace grounds, and there she was
put to death.
And all the people of the land
rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they
slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
and all the people of the land
rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because
Athaliah had been
put to the sword at the royal palace.
But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the
lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door
put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in its
lid, and set it beside the altar on the right side as one enters the house of the LORD. There the priests who guarded the
threshold put all the money brought into the house of the LORD.
And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s
scribe and the high priest came up, and they
put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal
scribe and the high priest would go up, count the money brought into the house of the LORD, and
tie it up in bags.
And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
Then they would
put the counted money into the hands of those who
supervised the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn would pay those doing the work—the carpenters, builders,
And he said to the king of Israel,
Put thine hand upon the bow. And he
put his hand upon it: and
Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
Then
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “
Put your hand on the bow.” So the king
put his hand on the bow, and
Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then
Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The
arrow of the LORD’S
deliverance, and the
arrow of
deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt
smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
“Open the east window,” said
Elisha. So he opened it and
Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he shot. And
Elisha declared: “This is the LORD’s
arrow of victory, the
arrow of victory over
Aram, for you shall strike the Arameans in Aphek until you have
put an end to them.”
And the man of God was
wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have
smitten five or six times; then hadst thou
smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt
smite Syria but
thrice.
But the man of God was
angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times. Then you would have struck down
Aram until you had
put an end to it. But now you will strike down
Aram only three times.”
But the children of the murderers he
slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be
put to death for the children, nor the children be
put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be
put to death for his own sin.
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his home.
And the king of Assyria
hearkened unto him: for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it
captive to Kir, and
slew Rezin.
So the king of Assyria
responded to him, marched up to Damascus, and captured it. He took its people to Kir as
captives and
put Rezin to death.
And he brought also the
brasen altar, which was before the LORD, from the
forefront of the house, from between the altar and the house of the LORD, and
put it on the north side of the altar.
He also took the bronze altar that stood before the LORD from the front of the temple (between the new altar and the house of the LORD) and he put it on the north side of the new altar.
And king
Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases, and removed the
laver from off them; and took down the sea from off the
brasen oxen that were under it, and
put it upon a
pavement of stones.
King
Ahaz also cut off the frames of the movable stands and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took down the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and
put it on a stone base.
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and
put him in prison.
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and
put them in the houses of the high places which the
Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
Nevertheless, the people of each nation continued to make their own gods in the cities where they had settled, and they set them up in the shrines that the people of Samaria had made on the high places.
And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
The king of Assyria exiled the Israelites to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Gozan by the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.
And
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to
Lachish, saying, I have
offended; return from me: that which thou
puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
So
Hezekiah king of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at
Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand from me.” And the king of Assyria exacted from
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now, therefore, make a
bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you can
put riders on them!
How then
wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and
put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how can you
repel a single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?
And it came to pass, when king
Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
On hearing this report, King
Hezekiah tore his clothes,
put on
sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will
put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
Because thy
rage against me and thy
tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will
put my hook in thy nose, and my
bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
Because your
rage and
arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I will
put My hook in your nose and My
bit in your mouth; I will send you back the way you came.’
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer
put him to the sword and escaped to the land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘
Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will
put My Name.”
And he set a
graven image of the
grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I
put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved Asherah pole he had made and set it up in the temple, of which the LORD had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
Howbeit there was no
reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
But they need not account for the money
put into their hands, since they work with
integrity.”
And Shaphan the
scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the
scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have
put it into the hands of the workers and supervisors of the house of the LORD.”
And he
put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
And Pharaoh-nechoh
put him in bands at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and
put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned
Jehoahaz at Riblah in the land of
Hamath so that he could not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And they
slew the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes, and
put out the eyes of
Zedekiah, and bound him with
fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
And they slaughtered the sons of
Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they
put out his eyes, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and
slew them at Riblah in the land of
Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and
put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the
firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he
slew him.
The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the
Canaanite. Er, Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, who
put him to death.
And the families of Kirjath-jearim; the Ithrites, and the Puhites, and the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; of them came the Zareathites, and the Eshtaulites.
Haroeh, half the Manahathites, and the clans of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. From these descended the Zorathites and Eshtaolites.
And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they
cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they
put their trust in him.
And because they
cried out to God in battle, they were helped against their enemies, and the Hagrites and all their allies were delivered into their hands. Because they
put their trust in God, He answered their prayers.
And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest.
These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD after the ark rested there.
Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the
frankincense, and the spices.
Others were
put in charge of the furnishings and other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil,
frankincense, and spices.
And they
put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of
Dagon.
They
put his
armor in the temple of their gods and hung his head in the temple of
Dagon.
And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he
slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of
Jesse.
and he failed to inquire of the LORD. So the LORD
put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of
Jesse.
And said, My God
forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have
put their lives in
jeopardy? for with the
jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
saying, “Far be it from me, my God, to do this! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” Because they had brought it at the risk of their lives, David refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.
These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had
overflown all his banks; and they
put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
These are the ones who crossed the Jordan in the first month when it was overflowing all its banks, and they put to flight all those in the valleys, both to the east and to the west.
And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza
put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen
stumbled.
When they came to the
threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had
stumbled.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Uzza, and he
smote him, because he
put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.
And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and He struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.
Then David
put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And he
put garrisons in
Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
He placed garrisons in
Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And the children of
Ammon came out, and
put the battle in
array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.
The
Ammonites marched out and
arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance to the city, while the kings who had come stayed by themselves in the open country.
Now when
Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and
put them in
array against the Syrians.
When
Joab saw the battle lines before him and behind him, he selected some of the best men of Israel and
arrayed them against the Arameans.
And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, with Shophach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in
array against them. So when David had
put the battle in
array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, advanced toward the Arameans, and
arrayed for battle against them. When David lined up to
engage them in battle, they fought against him.
And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were
put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of
Ammon any more.
When Hadadezer’s subjects saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became subject to him. So the Arameans were unwilling to help the
Ammonites anymore.
And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of
Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
David brought out the people who were there and
put them to work with saws, iron picks, and axes. And he did the same to all the
Ammonite cities. Then David and all his troops returned to Jerusalem.
And the LORD commanded the angel; and he
put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the LORD spoke to the angel, who
put his sword back into its
sheath.
