And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.
Israel’s
arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not
return to the LORD their God;
despite all this, they do not seek Him.
They
return, but not to the most High: they are like a
deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the
rage of their tongue: this shall be their
derision in the land of Egypt.
They turn, but not to the Most High; they are like a
faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the
cursing of their tongue; for this they will be
ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and
punish their sins: They will
return to Egypt.
They shall not dwell in the LORD’S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
They will not remain in the land of the LORD; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.
The days of
visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a
fool, the spiritual man is
mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
The days of punishment have come; the days of
retribution have arrived— let Israel know it. The prophet is called a
fool, and the inspired man
insane, because of the greatness of your iniquity and hostility.
He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
Will they not
return to the land of Egypt and be ruled by Assyria because they refused to
repent?
I will not
execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not
return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
I will not
execute the full
fury of My anger; I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim. For I am God and not man— the Holy One among you— and I will not come in wrath.
Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
But you must return to your God, maintaining love and justice, and always waiting on your God.
Ephraim
provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord
return unto him.
Ephraim has
provoked bitter anger, so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt upon him and repay him for his contempt.
O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have
stumbled by your iniquity.
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us
graciously: so will we render the
calves of our lips.
Bring your confessions and
return to the LORD. Say to Him: “Take away all our iniquity and receive us
graciously, that we may present the fruit of our lips.
They that dwell under his shadow shall
return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the
scent thereof shall be as the wine of
Lebanon.
They will
return and dwell in his shade; they will grow grain and
blossom like the vine. His
renown will be like the wine of
Lebanon.
Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with
weeping, and with
mourning:
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “
return to Me with all your heart, with fasting,
weeping, and
mourning.”
And
rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
So
rend your hearts and not your garments, and
return to the LORD your God. For He is
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. And He relents from sending
disaster.
Who knoweth if he will
return and
repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?
Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him— grain and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye
recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I
return your recompence upon your own head;
Now what do you have against Me, O Tyre,
Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you rendering against Me a
recompense? If you
retaliate against Me, I will swiftly and speedily
return your
recompense upon your heads.
Behold, I will raise them out of the place
whither ye have sold them, and will
return your recompence upon your own head:
Behold, I will
rouse them from the places to which you sold them; I will
return your
recompense upon your heads.
And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I
beset all your cities with cleanness of teeth and all your towns with lack of bread, yet you did not
return to Me,” declares the LORD.
So two or three cities
wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not
returned unto me, saith the LORD.
People
staggered from city to city for water to drink, but they were not satisfied; yet you did not
return to Me,” declares the LORD.
I have
smitten you with blasting and
mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the
palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not
returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I struck you with
blight and
mildew in your growing gardens and vineyards; the
locust devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you did not
return to Me,” declares the LORD.
I have sent among you the
pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the
stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not
returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I sent plagues among you like those of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the
stench of your camp, yet you did not
return to Me,” declares the LORD.
I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah, and ye were as a
firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not
returned unto me, saith the LORD.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “The city that marches out a thousand strong will only see a hundred return, and the one that marches out a hundred strong will have but ten left in the house of Israel.”
And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
And when the relative who is to burn the bodies picks them up to remove them from the house, he will call to one inside, “Is
anyone else with you?” “None,” that person will answer. “Silence,” the relative will
retort, “for the name of the LORD must not be
invoked.”
For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
For the Day of the LORD is near for all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your
recompense will
return upon your own head.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall
return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the
robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men
averse from war.
But of late My people have risen up like an enemy: You strip off the splendid
robe from
unsuspecting passersby like men
returning from battle.
Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the
remnant of his brethren shall
return unto the children of Israel.
Therefore Israel will be abandoned until she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of His brothers will return to the children of Israel.
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the
transgression of the
remnant of his
heritage? he
retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the
transgression of the
remnant of His inheritance— who does not
retain His anger
forever, because He delights in loving devotion?
This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and
magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
This they shall have in
return for their pride, for
taunting and
mocking the people of the LORD of Hosts.
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
So tell the people that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Return to Me, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of Hosts.’
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am
returned to Jerusalem with
mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there My house will be rebuilt, declares the LORD of Hosts, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.’
And the angel that talked with me came again, and
waked me, as a man that is
wakened out of his sleep,
Then the angel who was speaking with me
returned and
woke me, as a man is
awakened from his sleep.
But I scattered them with a
whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was
desolate after them, that no man passed through nor
returned: for they laid the pleasant land
desolate.
But I scattered them with a
whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known, and the land was left
desolate behind them so that no one could come or go. Thus they turned the pleasant land into a
desolation.”
Thus saith the LORD; I am
returned unto
Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
This is what the LORD says: “I will
return to
Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of Hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.”
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that
returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.
Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
Return to your
stronghold, O prisoners of hope; even
today I declare that I will restore to you double.
And I will
sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and turn again.
Though I
sow them among the nations, they will remember Me in distant lands; they and their children will live and
return.
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will
return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have been
devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be called the Land of Wickedness, and a people with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Yet from the days of your fathers, you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD of Hosts. “But you ask, ‘How can we return?’
Then shall ye
return, and
discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
And being
warned of God in a dream that they should not
return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And having been
warned in a dream not to
return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.

vacant, swept clean, and put in order.

return for his
cloak.
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

And he came and found them
asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy.
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is

betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

remorse and
returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots,
brasen vessels, and of tables.
And on
returning from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for
dining.
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the
scribes questioning with them.
When they
returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and
scribes arguing with them.
And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and
straightway he will send him
hither.
If
anyone asks, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will
return it shortly.’”
And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the
scribes, and the elders,

return to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking in the temple courts, and the chief priests,
scribes, and elders came up to Him.
And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
Let no one on the housetop go back inside to
retrieve anything from his house.
And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
And let no one in the field
return for his
cloak.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at
midnight, or at the
cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will
return—whether in the evening, at
midnight, when the
rooster crows, or in the morning.
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the
unthankful and to the evil.
But love your enemies, do good to them, and
lend to them, expecting nothing in
return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked.

And on the
morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and
whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
The next day he took out two
denarii and gave them to the
innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my
return I will repay you for any additional expense.’
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will
return to the house I left.’

And ye
yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will
return from the
wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to
return from the
wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching:
verily I say unto you, that he shall
gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he
returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them
recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
Then said he also to him that
bade him, When thou makest a
dinner or a
supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy
kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also
bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

dinner or a
banquet, do not
invite your friends or brothers or relatives or rich neighbors. Otherwise, they may
invite you in
return, and you will be repaid.
So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being
angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in
hither the poor, and the
maimed, and the
halt, and the blind.
The servant
returned and reported all this to his master. Then the owner of the house became
angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and
alleys of the city, and bring in the poor, the

fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
‘Your brother has
returned,’ he said, ‘and your father has killed the
fattened calf, because he has him back safe and sound.’
But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath
devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the
fatted calf.
But when this son of yours
returns from
squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the
fattened calf for him!’
And if he
trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I
repent; thou shalt
forgive him.
Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times
returns to say, ‘I
repent,’ you must
forgive him.”

return for anything he has left behind.
