Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her
cherish him, and let her lie in thy
bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
So his servants said to him, “Let us search for a young virgin for our lord the king, to attend to him and care for him and lie by his side to keep him warm.”
So they sought for a fair
damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found
Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
Then they
searched throughout Israel for a beautiful
girl, and they found
Abishag the Shunammite and brought her to the king.
And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.
Moreover, Solomon has taken his seat on the royal throne.
Bath-
sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a
seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.
So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. The king stood up to
greet her, bowed to her, and sat down on his throne. Then the king had a throne brought for his mother, who sat down at his right hand.
And Shimei arose, and
saddled his
ass, and went to
Gath to Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from
Gath.

Gath in
search of his slaves, and he brought them back from
Gath.
Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the
sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making
merry.
The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the
seashore, and they were eating and drinking and
rejoicing.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
And God gave Solomon wisdom, exceedingly deep insight, and understanding beyond measure, like the sand on the
seashore.
My servants shall bring them down from
Lebanon unto the
sea: and I will convey them by
sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt
appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt
accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My servants will
haul the logs from
Lebanon to the
Sea, and I will
float them as rafts by
sea to the place you
specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
And he made a
molten sea, ten cubits from the one
brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
He also made the
Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from
rim to
rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference.
And under the
brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a
cubit, compassing the
sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast.
Below the
rim, ornamental buds
encircled it, ten per

Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the
Sea.

Sea on the south side, at the
southeast corner of the temple.
And one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea;
And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-
geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red
sea, in the land of
Edom.
King Solomon also assembled a fleet of ships at Ezion-
geber, which is near Eloth in
Edom, on the shore of the Red
Sea.
And
Hiram sent in the navy his servants,
shipmen that had knowledge of the
sea, with the servants of Solomon.
And
Hiram sent his servants, men who knew the
sea, to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s servants.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel, and his cupbearers, and his
ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.

The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were stays on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the stays.

For the king had at
sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of
Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish at
sea with
Hiram’s fleet, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he
slew all the house of
Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.
As soon as Zimri began to reign and was
seated on the throne, he struck down the entire household of
Baasha. He did not leave a single male, whether a
kinsman or friend.
As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom,
whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent someone to
search for you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made that kingdom or nation
swear that they had not found you.
And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a
trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
And with the stones,
Elijah built an altar in the name of the LORD. Then he
dug a
trench around the altar large enough to hold two
seahs of seed.
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
“Go and look toward the
sea,” he said to his servant. So the servant went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times
Elijah said, “Go back.”
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the
sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto
Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the
sea.” And
Elijah replied, “Go and tell
Ahab, ‘Prepare your
chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
Yet I will send my servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall
search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will send my servants to
search your palace and the houses of your servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
So she wrote letters in
Ahab’s name, and
sealed them with his
seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with
Naboth.
Then
Jezebel wrote letters in
Ahab’s name,
sealed them with his
seal, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived with
Naboth in his city.
And she wrote in the letters, saying,
Proclaim a fast, and set
Naboth on high among the people:
In the letters she wrote: “
Proclaim a fast and give
Naboth a
seat of honor among the people.
And set two men, sons of
Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou
didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.
But
seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them
testify, ‘You have
cursed both God and the king!’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”
They proclaimed a fast, and set
Naboth on high among the people.
They proclaimed a fast and gave
Naboth a
seat of honor among the people.
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and
search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,”
Elisha replied.
And when they urged him till he was
ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
But when they pressed him to the point of
embarrassment, he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who
searched for three days but did not find
Elijah.
And he said, About this
season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said,
Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine
handmaid.
And
Elisha declared, “At this time next year, you will hold a son in your arms.” “No, my lord,” she said. “Do not lie to your
maidservant, O man of God.”
And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that
season that
Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
But the woman did conceive, and at that time the next year she gave birth to a son, just as
Elisha had told her.
Then
Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To
morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
Then
Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: ‘About this time
tomorrow at the gate of Samaria, a
seah of fine flour will sell for a
shekel, and two
seahs of barley will sell for a
shekel.’”
And the people went out, and
spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
Then the people went out and
plundered the camp of the Arameans. It was then that a
seah of fine flour sold for a
shekel, and two
seahs of barley sold for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a
shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a
shekel, shall be to
morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:
It happened just as the man of God had told the king: “About this time
tomorrow at the gate of Samaria, two
seahs of barley will sell for a
shekel, and a
seah of fine flour will sell for a
shekel.”
And
Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of
Baal, and said unto the worshippers of
Baal,
Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of
Baal only.
Next,
Jehu and Jehonadab son of Rechab entered the temple of
Baal, and
Jehu said to the servants of
Baal, “Look around to see that there are no servants of the LORD here among you—only servants of
Baal.”
And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
He took with him the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace by way of the Gate of the Guards. Then
Joash took his
seat on the royal throne,
He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of
Hamath unto the
sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant
Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of
Gath-hepher.
This
Jeroboam restored the boundary of Israel from Lebo-
hamath to the
Sea of the Arabah, according to the word that the LORD, the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant
Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from
Gath-hepher.
And king
Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases, and removed the
laver from off them; and took down the
sea from off the
brasen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a
pavement of stones.
King
Ahaz also cut off the frames of the movable stands and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took down the
Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone base.
And the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, did the Chaldees break in pieces, and carried the brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried the bronze to Babylon.
The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the house of the LORD; the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, and the movable stands that Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
and they journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, in search of pasture for their flocks.
And when the Philistines heard that David was
anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
When the Philistines heard that David had been
anointed king over all Israel, they all went in
search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.
Let the
sea roar, and the
fulness thereof: let the fields
rejoice, and all that is therein.
Let the
sea resound, and all that fills it; let the fields
exult, and all that is in them.
Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass,
wherewith Solomon made the
brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
And from Tibhath and
Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze
Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to
search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have not his servants come to you to
explore the land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that
season in the high place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering were presently at the high place in
Gibeon,
Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the
fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of
Gilead.
As for the Hebronites, Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, according to the
genealogies of his ancestors. In the
fortieth year of David’s reign the records were
searched, and strong, capable men were found among the Hebronites at Jazer in
Gilead.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD
searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the LORD
searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy
seat,
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy
seat.
And we will cut wood out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in flotes by
sea to
Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
We will cut logs from
Lebanon, as many as you need, and we will
float them to you as rafts by
sea down to
Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”
Also he made a

He also made the
Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from

And under it was the
similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a

Below the

It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and placed five on the south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the priests used the
Sea for washing.
And he set the sea on the right side of the east end, over against the south.
He put the
Sea on the south side, at the
southeast corner.
One sea, and twelve oxen under it.
Then went Solomon to Ezion-
geber, and to Eloth, at the
sea side in the land of
Edom.
Then Solomon went to Ezion-
geber and to Eloth on the coast of
Edom.
And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the
sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their

And there were six steps to the throne, with a
footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting place, and two lions standing by the stays:
The throne had six steps, and a
footstool of gold was attached to it. There were armrests on both sides of the
seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a priest to
instruct them, and without the law.
Then there came some that told
Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the
sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
Then some men came and told
Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from
Edom, from beyond the
Sea; they are already in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi).
And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
He also took with him the commanders of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace through the Upper Gate. They
seated King
Joash on the royal throne,
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as
polluted, put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring
cedar trees from
Lebanon to the
sea of
Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.
They gave money to the masons and carpenters, and food and drink and oil to the people of
Sidon and Tyre to bring
cedar logs from
Lebanon to
Joppa by
sea, as authorized by Cyrus king of Persia.
That
search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a
rebellious city, and
hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved
sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
that a
search should be made of the record books of your fathers. In these books you will discover and
verify that the city is a
rebellious city,
harmful to kings and provinces,
inciting sedition from ancient times. That is why this city was destroyed.
And I commanded, and
search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and
sedition have been made therein.
I issued a decree, and a
search was conducted. It was discovered that this city has revolted against kings from ancient times,
engaging in rebellion and
sedition.
Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be
search made in the king’s
treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
Now, therefore, if it pleases the king, let a
search be made of the royal
archives in Babylon to see if King Cyrus did indeed issue a decree to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision in this matter.
Then
Darius the king made a decree, and
search was made in the house of the rolls, where the treasures were laid up in Babylon.
Thus King
Darius ordered a
search of the
archives stored in the treasury of Babylon.
And I gathered them together to the river than runneth to
Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
Now I assembled these exiles at the canal that flows to
Ahava, and we camped there three days. And when I
searched among the people and priests, I found no Levites there.
But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have
transgressed in this thing.
But there are many people here, and it is the
rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have
transgressed greatly in this matter.
And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when
wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
Then the king, with the queen seated beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time.
These sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as
polluted, put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
You alone are the LORD. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all things, and the host of heaven worships You.
And
didst see the
affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red
sea;
You saw the
affliction of our fathers in Egypt; You heard their cry at the Red
Sea.
And thou
didst divide the
sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the
sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
You divided the
sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You
hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into
raging waters.
And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.
In view of all this, we make a binding agreement, putting it in writing and sealing it with the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests.”
Now those that
sealed were,
Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah,
Now these were the ones who
sealed the document:
Nehemiah the governor, son of Hacaliah, and also
Zedekiah,
Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:
Then the king’s attendants proposed, “Let a search be made for beautiful young virgins for the king,
After these things did king
Ahasuerus promote
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his
seat above all the princes that were with him.
After these events, King
Xerxes honored
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite,
elevating him to a position above all the princes who were with him.
Then were the king’s
scribes called on the
thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that
Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king
Ahasuerus was it written, and
sealed with the king’s ring.
On the
thirteenth day of the first month, the royal
scribes were summoned and the order was written exactly as
Haman commanded the royal satraps, the governors of each province, and the officials of each people, in the
script of each province and the language of every people. It was written in the name of King
Xerxes and
sealed with the royal
signet ring.
Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.
Now you may write in the king’s name as you please regarding the Jews, and
seal it with the royal
signet ring. For a decree that is written in the name of the king and
sealed with the royal
signet ring cannot be
revoked.”
And he wrote in the king
Ahasuerus’ name, and
sealed it with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on
horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young
dromedaries:
Mordecai wrote in the name of King
Xerxes and
sealed it with the royal
signet ring. He sent the documents by mounted couriers riding on swift horses
bred from the royal mares.
And the king
Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the
sea.
Now King
Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the land, even to its
farthest shores.
Which long for death, but it cometh not; and
dig for it more than for
hid treasures;
who long for death that does not come, and
search for it like hidden
treasure,
Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a
shock of corn cometh in in his
season.
You will come to the grave in full
vigor, like a
sheaf of grain gathered in
season.
Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
Indeed, we have investigated, and it is true! So hear it and know for
yourself.”
For now it would be heavier than the sand of the
sea: therefore my words are
swallowed up.
For then it would
outweigh the sand of the
seas— no wonder my words have been
rash.
But my brothers are as faithless as wadis, as
seasonal streams that overflow,
What time they wax warm, they
vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
but ceasing in the dry
season and
