Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.
For all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of
sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God;
“Blessed are they whose lawless acts are
forgiven, whose
sins are covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not
impute sin.
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of
Sarah’s
womb:
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!
Wherefore, as by one man
sin entered into the world, and death by
sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned:
Therefore, just as
sin entered the world through one man, and death through
sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all
sinned.
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not
sinned after the
similitude of Adam’s
transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not
sin in the way that Adam
transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.
And not as it was by one that
sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to
condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto
justification.
Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s
sin: The judgment that followed one
sin brought
condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought
justification.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
The law came in so that the
trespass would increase; but where
sin increased, grace increased all the more,
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase?
God
forbid. How shall we, that are dead to
sin, live any longer therein?
Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?
Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin.
We know that our old self was
crucified with Him so that the body of
sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to
sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin.
For
anyone who has died has been freed from
sin.
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.
For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God.
Likewise
reckon ye also
yourselves to be dead indeed unto
sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So you too must count
yourselves dead to
sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Let not
sin therefore reign in your
mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Therefore do not let
sin reign in your
mortal body so that you obey its desires.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto
sin: but yield
yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Do not present the parts of your body to
sin as instruments of wickedness, but present
yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and present the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
What then? shall we
sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God
forbid.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not!
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of
sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Do you not know that when you offer
yourselves as
obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to
sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?
But God be
thanked, that ye were the servants of
sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
But
thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to
sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed.
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
For when you were slaves to sin, you were free of obligation to righteousness.
But now being made free from
sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto
holiness, and the end
everlasting life.
But now that you have been set free from
sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you
reap leads to
holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
For when we lived according to the flesh, the
sinful passions
aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, bearing fruit for death.
What shall we say then? Is the law
sin? God
forbid.
Nay, I had not known
sin, but by the law: for I had not known
lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not
covet.
What then shall we say? Is the law
sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have been mindful of
sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of
coveting if the law had not said, “Do not
covet.”
But
sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of
concupiscence. For without the law
sin was dead.
But
sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of
covetous desire. For apart from the law,
sin is dead.
For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came,
sin sprang to life and I died.
For
sin, taking occasion by the commandment,
deceived me, and by it
slew me.
For
sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment,
deceived me and through the commandment put me to death.
Was then that which is good made death unto me? God
forbid. But
sin, that it might appear
sin, working death in me by that which is good; that
sin by the commandment might become exceeding
sinful.
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am
carnal, sold under
sin.
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
In that case, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
But I see another law in my members,
warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of
sin which is in my members.
But I see another law at work in my body,
warring against the law of my mind and holding me
captive to the law of
sin that dwells within me.
I
thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of
sin.
Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of
sin.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
For what the law was powerless to do in that it was
weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of
sinful man, as an offering for
sin. He thus condemned
sin in the flesh,
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
And this is My covenant with them when I take away their sins.”
And he that doubteth is
damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for
whatsoever is not of faith is
sin.
But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.
And that the Gentiles might
glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will
confess to thee among the Gentiles, and
sing unto thy name.
so that the Gentiles may
glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will
sing hymns to Your name.”
But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;
But now that there are no further
opportunities for me in these regions, and
since I have longed for many years to visit you,
Now to him that is of power to
stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the
mystery, which was kept secret
since the world began,
Now to Him who is able to
strengthen you by my gospel and by the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the
mystery concealed for ages past
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the
foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
For
since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the
foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
For ye are yet
carnal: for whereas there is among you
envying, and
strife, and divisions, are ye not
carnal, and walk as men?
for you are still worldly. For
since there is jealousy and
dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?
Flee fornication. Every
sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth
fornication sinneth against his own body.
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other
sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who
sins sexually
sins against his own body.
But and if thou marry, thou hast not
sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not
sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I
spare you.
But if you do marry, you have not
sinned. And if a virgin marries, she has not
sinned. But those who marry will face troubles in this life, and I want to
spare you this.
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
However, if someone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his
betrothed, and if she is beyond her youth and they ought to marry, let him do as he wishes; he is not
sinning; they should get married.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an
idol. And
since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
By
sinning against your brothers in this way and wounding their weak conscience, you
sin against Christ.
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head,
forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
Wherefore
whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord,
unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Therefore,
whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of
sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
It is the same with you.
Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts,
strive to
excel in gifts that build up the church.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
Else when thou shalt
bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say
Amen at thy giving of
thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
Otherwise, if you speak a blessing in spirit, how can someone who is
uninstructed say “
Amen” to your
thanksgiving,
since he does not know what you are saying?
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is
futile; you are still in your
sins.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
Awake to righteousness, and
sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
Sober up as you ought, and stop
sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.
The
sting of death is
sin; and the strength of
sin is the law.
The
sting of death is
sin, and the power of
sin is the law.
For our
rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly
sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
And this is our
boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in relation to you, in the
holiness and
sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God.
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of
sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
For we are not like so many others, who
peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with
sincerity, as men sent from God.
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we
faint not;
Therefore, since God in His mercy has given us this ministry, we do not lose heart.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we
persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
Therefore,
since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to
persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
in purity, knowledge,
patience, and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in
sincere love;
Having therefore these promises,
dearly beloved, let us
cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.
Therefore, beloved,
since we have these promises, let us
cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.
I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the
sincerity of your love.
I am not making a demand, but I am testing the
sincerity of your love in comparison to the earnestness of others.
For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I
boast of you to them of
Macedonia, that
Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath
provoked very many.
For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been
boasting to the Macedonians that
since last year you in
Achaia were prepared to give. And your zeal has
stirred most of them to do likewise.
Have I committed an offence in
abasing myself that ye might be
exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?
Was it a
sin for me to humble myself in order to
exalt you, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?
Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.
Since many are
boasting according to the flesh, I too will
boast.
Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is
offended, and I burn not?
Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn with grief?
I am become a
fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been
commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
I have become a
fool, but you drove me to it. In fact, you should have
commended me,
since I am in no way inferior to those “
super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
I am afraid that when I come again, my God will humble me before you, and I will be
grieved over many who have
sinned earlier and have not
repented of their acts of impurity, sexual immorality, and
debauchery.
I told you before, and
foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which
heretofore have
sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not
spare:
Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
who gave Himself for our
sins to
rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
We who are Jews by birth and not
Gentile “
sinners”
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found
sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of
sin? God
forbid.
But if, while we seek to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are found to be sinners, does that make Christ a minister of sin? Certainly not!
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
But the Scripture pronounces all things confined by sin, so that by faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, you are also an heir through God.
Which things are an
allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount
Sinai, which gendereth to
bondage, which is
Agar.
These things serve as illustrations, for the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount
Sinai and bears children into slavery: This is
Hagar.
For this
Agar is mount
Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in
bondage with her children.
Now
Hagar stands for Mount
Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
The entire law is fulfilled in a
single decree: “Love your
neighbor as
yourself.”
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.
In whom we have
redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace;
In Him we have
redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
