Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
For I know your
manifold transgressions and your mighty
sins: they
afflict the just, they take a
bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.
For I know that your transgressions are many and your
sins are numerous. You
oppress the righteous by taking bribes; you deprive the poor of justice in the gate.
And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD,
forgive, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
And when the locusts had eaten every green plant in the land, I said, “Lord GOD, please
forgive! How will Jacob
survive,
since he is so small?”
Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Then I said, “Lord GOD, please stop! How will Jacob
survive,
since he is so small?”
They that
swear by the
sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O
Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land rises like the Nile, then
sinks like the river of Egypt—
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
All the
sinners among My people will die by the sword— all those who say, ‘
Disaster will never draw near or
confront us.’”
For the
transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the
sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?
All this is for the
transgression of Jacob and the
sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols.
Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
O thou inhabitant of
Lachish, bind the
chariot to the swift beast: she is the beginning of the
sin to the daughter of
Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee.
Harness your
chariot horses, O dweller of
Lachish. You were the beginning of
sin to the Daughter of
Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.
But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his
transgression, and to Israel his
sin.
As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the LORD, with justice and courage, to declare to Jacob his
transgression and to Israel his
sin.
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my
firstborn for my
transgression, the fruit of my body for the
sin of my soul?
Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my
firstborn for my
transgression, the fruit of my body for the
sin of my soul?
Therefore also will I make thee sick in
smiting thee, in making thee
desolate because of thy
sins.
Therefore I am striking you severely, to ruin you because of your sins.
I will bear the
indignation of the LORD, because I have
sinned against him, until he
plead my cause, and
execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
Because I have
sinned against Him, I must
endure the
rage of the LORD, until He argues my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me into the light; I will see His righteousness.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it
tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not
tarry.
For the vision awaits an appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, since it will surely come and will not delay.
Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast
sinned against thy soul.
You have
plotted shame for your house by cutting off many peoples and
forfeiting your life.
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
GOD the Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights! For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments.
And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have
sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
I will bring such distress on mankind that they will walk like the blind, because they have
sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall
sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
Sing, O daughter of
Zion;
shout, O Israel; be
glad and
rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will
rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with
singing.
The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will
rejoice over you with
gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will
rejoice over you with
singing.”
Since those days were, when one came to an
heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
from that time, when one came expecting a
heap of twenty ephahs of grain, there were but ten. When one came to the winepress to draw out fifty baths, there were but twenty.
Sing and
rejoice, O daughter of
Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy and be
glad, O Daughter of
Zion, for I am coming to dwell among you,” declares the LORD.
For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will
engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
See the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will
engrave on it an inscription, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a
single day.
In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to
cleanse them from
sin and impurity.
And now, I pray you,
beseech God that he will be
gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
“But ask now for God’s favor. Will He be
gracious?
Since this has come from your hands, will He show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
For
verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one
jot or one
tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a
single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
And if thy right eye
offend thee,
pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into
hell.
If your right eye causes you to
sin,
gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into
hell.
And if thy right hand
offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into
hell.
And if your right hand causes you to
sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to depart into
hell.
Neither shalt thou
swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Nor should you
swear by your head, for you cannot make a
single hair white or black.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
Which of you by taking thought can add one
cubit unto his
stature?
Who of you by
worrying can add a
single hour to his life?
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the
palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the
palsy; Son, be of good
cheer; thy
sins be
forgiven thee.
Just then some men brought to Him a
paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the
paralytic, “Take courage, son; your
sins are
forgiven.”
For whether is easier, to say, Thy
sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your
sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the
palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins...” Then He said to the
paralytic, “Get up,
pick up your mat, and go home.”
And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
Later, as Jesus was
dining at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and
sinners came and
ate with Him and His disciples.
And when the
Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and
sinners?
When the
Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and
sinners?”
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but
sinners to
repentance.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man
gluttonous, and a
winebibber, a friend of publicans and
sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at this
glutton and
drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and
sinners!’ But wisdom is
vindicated by her actions.”
Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when
tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is
offended.
But since he has no root, he remains for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that
offend, and them which do iniquity;
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will
weed out of His kingdom every cause of
sin and all who practice
lawlessness.
But when he saw the wind
boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to
sink, he
cried, saying, Lord, save me.
But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to
sink,
cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but
woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Woe to the world for the causes of
sin. These
stumbling blocks must come, but
woe to the man through whom they come!
Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot
offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life
halt or
maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into
everlasting fire.
If your hand or your foot causes you to
sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life
crippled or
lame than to have two hands and two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.
And if thine eye
offend thee,
pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into
hell fire.
And if your eye causes you to
sin,
gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of
hell.
Moreover if thy brother shall
trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
If your brother
sins against you, go and
confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.
Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how
oft shall my brother
sin against me, and I
forgive him? till seven times?
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I
forgive my brother who
sins against me? Up to seven times?”
But
forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You
traverse land and sea to
win a
single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of
hell as you are.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your fathers.
For then shall be great
tribulation, such as was not
since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
For at that time there will be great
tribulation,
unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again.
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the
forgiveness of
sins.
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is
betrayed into the hands of
sinners.
Then He returned to the disciples and said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is
betrayed into the hands of
sinners.
Saying, I have
sinned in that I have
betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
The chief priests
picked up the pieces of silver and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury,
since it is blood money.”
But Jesus gave no answer, not even to a
single charge, much to the governor’s
amazement.
John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of
repentance for the
forgiveness of
sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all
baptized of him in the river of Jordan,
confessing their
sins.
And when they could not come
nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the
palsy lay.
Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the
paralytic on his mat.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the
palsy, Son, thy
sins be
forgiven thee.
Why
doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can
forgive sins but God only?
“Why does this man speak like this? He is
blaspheming! Who can
forgive sins but God alone?”
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the
palsy, Thy
sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
“Which is easier: to say to a
paralytic, ‘Your
sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up,
pick up your mat, and walk’?
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the
palsy,)
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins...” He said to the
paralytic,
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
While Jesus was
dining at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and
sinners were eating with Him and His disciples—for there were many who followed Him.
And when the
scribes and
Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and
sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and
sinners?
When the
scribes who were
Pharisees saw Jesus eating with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and
sinners?”
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but
sinners to
repentance.
On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be
forgiven all
sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter.
But
whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be
forgiven; he is guilty of eternal
sin.”
That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their
sins should be
forgiven them.
so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be
forgiven.’”
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
After they had dismissed the crowd, they took Jesus with them, since He was already in the boat. And there were other boats with Him.
Whosoever therefore shall be
ashamed of me and of my words in this
adulterous and
sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be
ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
If
anyone is
ashamed of Me and My words in this
adulterous and
sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be
ashamed of him when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been with him?” “From
childhood,” he said.
And if thy hand
offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life
maimed, than having two hands to go into
hell, into the fire that never shall be
quenched:
If your hand causes you to
sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
crippled than to have two hands and go into
hell, into the
unquenchable fire.
And if thy foot
offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter
halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into
hell, into the fire that never shall be
quenched:
If your foot causes you to
sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
lame than to have two feet and be thrown into
hell.
And if thine eye
offend thee,
pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into
hell fire:
And if your eye causes you to
sin,
pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into
hell,
And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the
eventide was come, he went out unto
Bethany with the twelve.
Then Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but
since it was already late, He went out to
Bethany with the Twelve.
And seeing a fig tree
afar off having leaves, he came, if
haply he might find any thing
thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if there was any fruit on it. But when He reached it, He found nothing on it except leaves, since it was not the season for figs.
And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is
betrayed into the hands of
sinners.
When Jesus returned the third time, He said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is
betrayed into the hands of
sinners.
And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
Now it was already evening. Since it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath),
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
“How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
as He spoke through His holy prophets, those of ages past,
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
to give to His people the knowledge of salvation through the
forgiveness of their
sins,
And Joseph also went up from
Galilee, out of the city of
Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called
Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and
lineage of David:)
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of
repentance for the remission of
sins;
He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of
repentance for the
forgiveness of
sins,
And they
beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to
sink.
So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees. “Go away from me, Lord,” he said, “for I am a sinful man.”
And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy
sins are
forgiven thee.
When Jesus saw their faith, He said, “Friend, your
sins are
forgiven.”
And the
scribes and the
Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can
forgive sins, but God alone?
Whether is easier, to say, Thy
sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your
sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to
forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the
palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy
couch, and go into thine house.
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to
forgive sins...” He said to the
paralytic, “I tell you, get up,
pick up your mat, and go home.”
But their
scribes and
Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and
sinners?
I came not to call the righteous, but
sinners to
repentance.
I have not come to call the righteous, but
sinners, to
repentance.”
For if ye love them which love you, what
thank have ye? for
sinners also love those that love them.
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what
thank have ye? for
sinners also do even the same.
If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.
And if ye
lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what
thank have ye? for
sinners also
lend to
sinners, to receive as much again.
And if you
lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even
sinners lend to
sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
