And when the queen of
Sheba had seen all
Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,
When the queen of
Sheba saw all the wisdom of
Solomon, the palace he had built,
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of
Sheba gave to king
Solomon.
Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again was such an abundance of spices brought in as those the queen of
Sheba gave to King
Solomon.
And king
Solomon gave unto the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which
Solomon gave her of his royal
bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.
King
Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—besides what he had given her out of his royal
bounty. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
Now the weight of gold that came to
Solomon in one year was six hundred
threescore and six talents of gold.
The weight of gold that came to Solomon each year was 666 talents,
And king
Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one
target.
King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield.
And all king
Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of
Solomon.
All King
Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of
Solomon.
So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom.
So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
The whole world sought an
audience with
Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.
And
Solomon gathered together
chariots and
horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred
chariots, and twelve thousand
horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for
chariots, and with the king at Jerusalem.
Solomon accumulated 1,400
chariots and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
But king
Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites,
Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and
Hittites;
King
Solomon, however, loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh—women of Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and
Sidon, as well as Hittite women.
Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods:
Solomon clave unto these in love.
These women were from the nations about which the LORD had told the Israelites, “You must not
intermarry with them, for surely they will turn your hearts after their gods.” Yet
Solomon clung to these women in love.
For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
For when Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and he was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his father David had been.
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely.
And the LORD was
angry with
Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
Now the LORD grew
angry with
Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.
And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
Although He had
warned Solomon explicitly not to follow other gods,
Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command.
Wherefore the LORD said unto
Solomon,
Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely
rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
Then the LORD said to
Solomon, “Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will
tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
And God
stirred him up another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah:
And God raised up against
Solomon another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah,
And he was an
adversary to Israel all the days of
Solomon, beside the mischief that
Hadad did: and he
abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.
Rezon was Israel’s enemy throughout the days of
Solomon, adding to the trouble caused by
Hadad. So Rezon ruled over
Aram with hostility toward Israel.
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda,
Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his hand against the king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a servant of
Solomon, but he rebelled against the king,
And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king:
Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the account of his rebellion against the king.
Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
And the man
Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and
Solomon seeing the young man that he was
industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.
Now
Jeroboam was a mighty man of
valor. So when
Solomon noticed that the young man was
industrious, he put him in charge of the whole labor force of the house of Joseph.
And he said to
Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will
rend the kingdom out of the hand of
Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee:
and said to
Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for
yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will
tear the kingdom out of the hand of
Solomon, and I will give you ten tribes.
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as
Solomon’s father David did.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
Solomon sought therefore to kill
Jeroboam. And
Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto
Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of
Solomon.
Solomon therefore sought to kill
Jeroboam. But
Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to
Shishak king of Egypt, where he remained until the death of
Solomon.
And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?
As for the rest of the acts of Solomon—all that he did, as well as his wisdom—are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon?
And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
Thus the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
And
Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king
Solomon, and
Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he was still in Egypt where he had fled from King
Solomon and had been living ever since.
And king
Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before
Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye
advise that I may answer this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father
Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam the son of
Solomon.
And when
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the whole house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam son of
Solomon.
Speak unto
Rehoboam, the son of
Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the
remnant of the people, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of
Solomon king of Judah, all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people
And
Rehoboam the son of
Solomon reigned in Judah.
Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Meanwhile,
Rehoboam son of
Solomon reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
He seized the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including all the gold shields that Solomon had made.
And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel
slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand
footmen in one day.
For seven days the armies camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle
ensued, and the Israelites struck down the Arameans—a hundred thousand foot
soldiers in one day.
And
Ahab said to
Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast
sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.
When
Elijah arrived,
Ahab said to him, “So you have found me out, my enemy.” He replied, “I have found you out because you have
sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the LORD.
But there was none like unto
Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom
Jezebel his wife
stirred up.
(Surely there was never one like
Ahab, who
sold himself to do evil in the sight of the LORD, incited by his wife
Jezebel.
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an
ass’s head was
sold for
fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a
cab of
dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
So there was a great famine in Samaria. Indeed, they besieged the city so long that a
donkey’s head
sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter
cab of
dove’s dung
sold for five shekels of silver.
Then
Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To
morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be
sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
Then
Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: ‘About this time
tomorrow at the gate of Samaria, a
seah of fine flour will sell for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley will sell for a
shekel.’”
And the people went out, and
spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was
sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
Then the people went out and
plundered the camp of the Arameans. It was then that a
seah of fine flour
sold for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley
sold for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used
divination and enchantments, and
sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced
divination and
soothsaying. They devoted themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
I have
digged and
drunk strange waters, and with the
sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places.
I have
dug wells and
drunk foreign waters. With the
soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”
And he set a
graven image of the
grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to
Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved Asherah pole he had made and set it up in the temple, of which the LORD had said to David and his son
Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which
Solomon the king of Israel had builded for
Ashtoreth the
abomination of the Zidonians, and for
Chemosh the
abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the
abomination of the children of
Ammon, did the king
defile.
And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
As the LORD had declared,
Nebuchadnezzar also carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that
Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD.
The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the house of the LORD; the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, and the movable stands that Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and
Nathan, and
Solomon, four, of Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel:
and these sons were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab,
Nathan, and
Solomon. These four were born to him by Bathsheba daughter of Ammiel.
And Johanan
begat Azariah, (he it is that executed the priest’s office in the temple that
Solomon built in Jerusalem:)
Johanan was the father of
Azariah, who served as priest in the temple that
Solomon built in Jerusalem,
And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.
They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. And they performed their duties according to the regulations given them.
And with them, by their generations, after the house of their fathers, were bands of soldiers for war, six and thirty thousand men: for they had many wives and sons.
Michael,
Obadiah,
Joel, and Isshiah. All five of them were chiefs. In addition to them, according to their
genealogy, they had 36,000 troops for battle, for they had many wives and children.
All these the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valour, were seventeen thousand and two hundred soldiers, fit to go out for war and battle.
Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Chenaanah, Zethan,
Tarshish, and Ahishahar. All these sons of Jediael were heads of their families, mighty men of
valor; there were 17,200 fit for battle.
Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab,
Nathan, and
Solomon,
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab,
Nathan,
Solomon,
David captured from him a thousand
chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot
soldiers, and he
hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the
chariots.
Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass,
wherewith Solomon made the
brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
And from Tibhath and
Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which
Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.
But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in
chariots, and forty thousand
footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven thousand of their charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also killed Shophach the commander of their army.
And David said,
Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son
Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel.
Then David called for his son
Solomon and
instructed him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God,
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,
Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon:
So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
When David was old and full of years, he
installed his son
Solomon as king over Israel.
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.
And thou,
Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you,
Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Then David gave to
Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his son
Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
And David said to
Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to
Solomon his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation,
Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
And give unto
Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep and carry out all Your commandments, decrees, and statutes, and to build Your palace for which I have made provision.”
And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made
Solomon the son of David king the second time, and
anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and
Zadok to be priest.
That day they
ate and
drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD. Then, for a second time, they designated David’s son
Solomon as king,
anointing him before the LORD as ruler, and
Zadok as the priest.
Then
Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So
Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
All the officials and mighty men, as well as all of King David’s sons,
pledged their allegiance to King
Solomon.
And the LORD
magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
The LORD highly
exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been bestowed on any king in Israel before him.
And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and
Solomon his son reigned in his
stead.
He died at a ripe old age, full of years, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon reigned in his place.
And
Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now
Solomon son of David established himself securely over his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and highly
exalted him.
Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.
Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every leader in all Israel—the heads of the families.
So
Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at
Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
And
Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and
Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So
Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
And
Solomon went up thither to the
brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
Solomon offered sacrifices there before the LORD on the bronze altar in the Tent of Meeting, where he offered a thousand burnt offerings.
In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “Ask, and I will give it to you!”
And
Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his
stead.
Solomon replied to God: “You have shown much loving devotion to my father David, and You have made me king in his place.
And God said to
Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
God said to
Solomon, “Since this was in your heart instead of requesting riches or wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you king—
Then
Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at
Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.
So
Solomon went to Jerusalem from the high place in
Gibeon before the Tent of Meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
And
Solomon told out
threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and
fourscore thousand to
hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
So he conscripted 70,000
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
And
Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then
Solomon sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the
solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
Then
Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to
Solomon: “Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king.”
And
Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
And he set
threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and
fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
Solomon made 70,000 of them
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
Then
Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then
Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount
Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
Solomon began construction on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
