Now these are the things wherein
Solomon was
instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was
threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
The foundation that Solomon laid for the house of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide, according to the old standard.
And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God;
Additionally, Huram made the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished the work that he had undertaken for King
Solomon in the house of God:
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.
Solomon made all these articles in such great abundance that the weight of the bronze could not be determined.
And
Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables
whereon the
shewbread was set;
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of God: the golden altar; the tables on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that
Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then
Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
Then
Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time
Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud;
And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
For
Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
Now
Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.
When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.
And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.
Moreover
Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which
Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then
Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
Also at the same time
Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of
Hamath unto the river of Egypt.
So at that time
Solomon and all Israel with him—a very great assembly of people from Lebo-
hamath to the
Brook of Egypt—kept the feast for seven days.
And in the eighth day they made a
solemn assembly: for they kept the
dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.
On the eighth day they held a
solemn assembly, for the
dedication of the altar had lasted seven days, and the feast seven days more.
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to
Solomon, and to Israel his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month,
Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for
Solomon, and for His people Israel.
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
the LORD appeared to him at night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of the LORD, and his own house,
Now at the end of the twenty years during which Solomon had built the house of the LORD and his own palace,
That the cities which Huram had restored to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there.
Solomon rebuilt the cities
Hiram had given him and settled Israelites there.
And
Solomon went to
Hamath-zobah, and prevailed against it.
Then
Solomon went to
Hamath-zobah and captured it.
And Baalath, and all the store cities that
Solomon had, and all the
chariot cities, and the cities of the
horsemen, and all that
Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and throughout all the land of his dominion.
as well as Baalath, all the store cities that belonged to
Solomon, and all the cities for his
chariots and horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the land of his dominion.
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did
Solomon make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his
chariots and
horsemen.
But
Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And these were the chief of king Solomon’s officers, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people.
They were also the chief officers for King Solomon: 250 supervisors.
And
Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
Then
Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the altar of the LORD, which he had built before the
porch,
At that time
Solomon offered burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of the LORD he had built in front of the
portico.
Even after a certain rate every day, offering according to the commandment of Moses, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the
solemn feasts, three times in the year, even in the feast of
unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles.
He observed the daily requirement for offerings according to the commandment of Moses for Sabbaths, New Moons, and the three annual appointed feasts—the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles.
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.
Thus all the work of Solomon was carried out, from the day the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was completed.
Then went
Solomon to Ezion-
geber, and to Eloth, at the sea side in the land of
Edom.
Then
Solomon went to Ezion-
geber and to Eloth on the coast of
Edom.
And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of
Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king
Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with
Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King
Solomon.
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of
Solomon, she came to prove
Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to
Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of
Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to
Solomon and spoke with him about all that was on her mind.
And
Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing
hid from
Solomon which he told her not.
And Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for him to explain.
And when the queen of
Sheba had seen the wisdom of
Solomon, and the house that he had built,
When the queen of
Sheba saw the wisdom of
Solomon, the palace he had built,
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such
spice as the queen of
Sheba gave king
Solomon.
Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. There had never been such spices as those the queen of
Sheba gave to King
Solomon.
And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of
Solomon, which brought gold from
Ophir, brought
algum trees and precious stones.
(The servants of
Hiram and of
Solomon who brought gold from
Ophir also brought
algum wood and precious stones.
And king
Solomon gave to the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. So she turned, and went away to her own land, she and her servants.
King
Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—far more than she had brought the king. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
Now the weight of gold that came to
Solomon in one year was six hundred and
threescore and six talents of gold;
The weight of gold that came to Solomon each year was 666 talents,
Beside that which
chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to
Solomon.
not including the revenue from the merchants and traders. And all the Arabian kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
And king
Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one
target.
King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of hammered gold went into each shield.
And all the drinking vessels of king
Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing accounted of in the days of
Solomon.
All King
Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of
Solomon.
And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth sought an
audience with
Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.
And
Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and
chariots, and twelve thousand
horsemen; whom he bestowed in the
chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and
chariots, and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from all the lands.
Now the rest of the acts of
Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of
Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of
Iddo the
seer against
Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
As for the rest of the acts of
Solomon, from beginning to end, are they not written in the Records of
Nathan the Prophet, in the Prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the Visions of
Iddo the
Seer concerning
Jeroboam son of Nebat?
And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.
Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.
And
Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,
whither he had fled from the presence of
Solomon the king, heard it, that
Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King
Solomon.
And king
Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before
Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father
Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
Speak unto
Rehoboam the son of
Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of
Solomon king of Judah and all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made
Rehoboam the son of
Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and
Solomon.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported
Rehoboam son of
Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and
Solomon.
So
Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which
Solomon had made.
So King
Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem and seized the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that
Solomon had made.
Yet
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of
Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
Yet
Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of
Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of
Belial, and have strengthened themselves against
Rehoboam the son of
Solomon, when
Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not
withstand them.
Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist
Rehoboam son of
Solomon when he was young, inexperienced, and unable to resist them.
And he sought
Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was
hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s
soldiers captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” So no one was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
But the
soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.
Meanwhile the troops that
Amaziah had dismissed from battle
raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem, for nothing like this had happened there since the days of
Solomon son of David king of Israel.
And he set a carved image, the
idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to
Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved image he had made and set it up in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son
Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD,
Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by
Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.
And prepare
yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of
Solomon his son.
Prepare
yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and
Solomon his son.
The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Peruda,
The descendants of the servants of Solomon: the descendants of Sotai, the descendants of Sophereth, the descendants of Peruda,
All the
Nethinims, and the children of
Solomon’s servants, were three hundred
ninety and two.
The temple servants and descendants of the servants of Solomon numbered 392 in all.
For I was
ashamed to require of the king a band of
soldiers and
horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that
forsake him.
For I was
ashamed to ask the king for an
escort of
soldiers and
horsemen to protect us from our enemies on the road, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is
gracious to all who seek Him, but His great anger is against all who
forsake Him.”
And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
and said, “We have done our best to
buy back our Jewish brothers who were
sold to foreigners, but now you are selling your own brothers, that they may be
sold back to us!” But they remained silent, for they could find nothing to say.
The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida,
The descendants of the servants of Solomon: the descendants of Sotai, the descendants of Sophereth, the descendants of Perida,
All the
Nethinims, and the children of
Solomon’s servants, were three hundred
ninety and two.
The temple servants and descendants of the servants of Solomon numbered 392 in all.
Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
Day after day, from the first day to the last,
Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. The Israelites kept the feast for seven days, and on the eighth day they held an assembly, according to the
ordinance.
Now these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, to wit, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the
Nethinims, and the children of
Solomon’s servants.
These are the heads of the provinces who settled in Jerusalem. (In the villages of Judah, however, each lived on his own property in their towns—the Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and descendants of Solomon’s servants—
And both the singers and the
porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the
purification, according to the commandment of David, and of
Solomon his son.
They performed the service of their God and the service of
purification, along with the singers and gatekeepers, as David and his son
Solomon had prescribed.
In those days saw I in Judah some
treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in
sheaves, and
lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I
testified against them in the day wherein they
sold victuals.
In those days I saw people in Judah
treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on
donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were being brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I
warned them against selling food on that day.
There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
Additionally, men of Tyre who lived there were importing fish and all kinds of
merchandise and selling them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah in Jerusalem.
Did not
Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did
outlandish women cause to sin.
Did not King Solomon of Israel sin in matters like this? There was not a king like him among many nations, and he was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel—yet foreign women drew him into sin.
For we are
sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been
sold for
bondmen and
bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not
countervail the king’s damage.
For my people and I have been
sold out to destruction, death, and
annihilation. If we had merely been
sold as menservants and maidservants, I would have remained silent, because no such distress would
justify burdening the king.”
So went
Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and
smote Job with
sore boils from the
sole of his foot unto his crown.
So
Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and
infected Job with terrible boils from the
soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
Behold, may that night be barren; may no joyful voice come into it.
Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
You put my feet in the stocks and stand watch over all my paths; You set a limit for the soles of my feet.
For want and famine they were
solitary;
fleeing into the wilderness in former time
desolate and waste.
God setteth the
solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the
rebellious dwell in a dry land.
God settles the
lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the
rebellious dwell in a sun-
scorched land.
Blow up the
trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our
solemn feast day.
Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the
psaltery; upon the
harp with a
solemn sound.
He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
He sent a man before them— Joseph, sold as a slave.
They
wandered in the wilderness in a
solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
Some
wandered in desert wastelands, finding no path to a city in which to dwell.
The
proverbs of
Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
These are the
proverbs of
Solomon son of David, king of Israel,
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us
solace ourselves with loves.
Come, let us take our fill of love till morning. Let us delight in loving caresses!
The
proverbs of
Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a
foolish son grief to his mother.
These are also
proverbs of
Solomon, which the men of
Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
These are additional
proverbs of
Solomon, which were copied by the men of
Hezekiah king of Judah:
The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.
This is Solomon’s Song of Songs.
I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of
Kedar, as the curtains of
Solomon.
I am dark, yet lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of
Kedar, like the curtains of
Solomon.
Behold, it is
Solomon’s carriage,
escorted by sixty of the mightiest men of Israel.
King
Solomon has made his carriage out of the timber of
Lebanon.
Go forth, O ye daughters of
Zion, and behold king
Solomon with the crown
wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his
espousals, and in the day of the
gladness of his heart.
Come out, O daughters of
Zion, and
gaze at King
Solomon, wearing the crown his mother bestowed on the day of his
wedding— the day of his heart’s
rejoicing.
Solomon had a
vineyard at
Baal-
hamon; he let out the
vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.
Solomon had a
vineyard in
Baal-
hamon. He
leased it to the tenants. For its fruit, each was to bring a thousand shekels of silver.
My
vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O
Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
But my own
vineyard is mine to give; the thousand shekels are for you, O
Solomon, and two hundred are for those who tend its fruit.
From the
sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither
mollified with
ointment.
From the
sole of your foot to the top of your head, there is no soundness— only wounds and welts and
festering sores neither
cleansed nor
bandaged nor
soothed with oil.
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an
abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of
assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the
solemn meeting.
Bring your worthless offerings no more; your incense is
detestable to Me— your New Moons, Sabbaths, and convocations. I cannot
endure iniquity in a
solemn assembly.
And
Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed
soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be
grievous unto him.
Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far as Jahaz. Therefore the
soldiers of Moab cry out; their souls
tremble within.
Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy
solemnity is kept; and
gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.
You will sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will
rejoice like one who walks to the music of a
flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
