And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by
Haman the
son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king’s provinces:
“If it pleases the king,” she said, “and if I have found favor in his sight, and the matter seems proper to the king, and I am pleasing in his sight, may an order be written to
revoke the letters that the scheming
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king’s provinces.
The ten
sons of
Haman the
son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews,
slew they; but on the
spoil laid they not their hand.
They killed these ten
sons of
Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, but they did not lay a hand on the
plunder.
And the king said unto
Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in
Shushan the palace, and the ten
sons of
Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.
who said to Queen
Esther, “In the citadel of
Susa the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men, including
Haman’s ten
sons. What have they done in the rest of the royal provinces? Now what is your petition? It will be given to you. And what further do you request? It will be fulfilled.”
Then said
Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in
Shushan to do to
morrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let
Haman’s ten
sons be
hanged upon the
gallows.
And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at
Shushan; and they
hanged Haman’s ten
sons.
So the king commanded that this be done. An edict was issued in
Susa, and they
hanged the ten
sons of
Haman.
Because
Haman the
son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast
Pur, that is, the lot, to
consume them, and to destroy them;
For
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had
plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the
Pur (that is, the lot) to
crush and destroy them.
But when
Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked
device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his
sons should be
hanged on the
gallows.
But when it came before the king, he commanded by letter that the wicked scheme which
Haman had devised against the Jews should come back upon his own head, and that he and his
sons should be
hanged on the
gallows.
And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
He had seven sons and three daughters,
And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
Job’s
sons would take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would
invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and
sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my
sons have
sinned, and
cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
And when the days of feasting were over, Job would send for his children to
purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought, “Perhaps my children have
sinned and
cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.
Now there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan came also among them.
One day the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan also came with them.
And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
One day, while Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “Your
sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
Again there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
On another day the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and
Satan also came with them to present himself before Him.
His children are far from safety, and they are
crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.
His
sons are far from safety,
crushed in court without a defender.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
If his sons receive honor, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he is unaware.
He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
how much less man, who is but a
maggot, and the
son of man, who is but a worm!”
If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; and his offspring will never have enough food.
And now am I their
song,
yea, I am their
byword.
And now they
mock me in
song; I have become a
byword among them.
Then was
kindled the wrath of
Elihu the
son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath
kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
This
kindled the anger of
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram. He burned with anger against Job for
justifying himself rather than God,
And
Elihu the
son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and
durst not
shew you mine opinion.
So
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite declared: “I am young in years, while you are old; that is why I was
timid and afraid to tell you what I know.
Thy wickedness may
hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the
son of man.
Your wickedness affects only a man like
yourself, and your righteousness only a
son of man.
But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
But no one asks, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives us songs in the night,
Remember that thou
magnify his work, which men behold.
Remember to
magnify His work, which men have praised in
song.
When the morning stars
sang together, and all the
sons of God
shouted for joy?
while the morning stars
sang together and all the
sons of God
shouted for joy?
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide
Arcturus with his
sons?
Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs?

And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my
Son; this day have I
begotten thee.
I will
proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My
Son;
today I have become Your Father.
Kiss the
Son, lest he be
angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is
kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Kiss the
Son, lest He be
angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
O ye
sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after
leasing?
Selah.
How long, O men, will my honor be
maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies?
Selah What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne. His eyes are watching closely; they examine the sons of men.
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God.
From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose
belly thou fillest with thy
hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
from such men, O LORD, by Your hand— from men of the world whose portion is in this life. May You fill the
bellies of Your
treasured ones and satisfy their
sons, so they leave their abundance to their children.
Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.
You will
wipe their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from the
sons of men.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I give
thanks to Him with my
song.
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
How great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have bestowed before the sons of men on those who take refuge in You!
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with
songs of
deliverance.
Selah.
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
He put a new
song in my mouth, a
hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the
daytime, and in the night his
song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
The LORD decrees His loving devotion by day, and at night His song is with me as a prayer to the God of my life.
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
You sit and
malign your brother; you
slander your own mother’s
son.
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
God looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
My soul is among the lions; I lie down with
ravenous beasts— with men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
Do you indeed speak justly, O rulers? Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men?
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an
alien unto my mother’s children.
I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother’s sons,
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
Those who sit at the gate
mock me, and I am the
song of drunkards.
Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.
Endow the king with Your justice, O God, and the
son of the king with Your righteousness.
The prayers of David the
son of
Jesse are ended.
Thus conclude the prayers of David
son of
Jesse.
I call to
remembrance my
song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made
diligent search.
At night I remembered my
song; in my heart I
mused, and my spirit
pondered:
Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the
sons of Jacob and Joseph.
Selah.
With power You redeemed Your people, the
sons of Jacob and Joseph.
Selah The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
Fire consumed His young men, and their maidens were left without
wedding songs.
And the
vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for
thyself.
the root Your right hand has planted, the
son You have raised up for
Yourself.
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the
son of man whom thou madest strong for
thyself.
Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand, on the
son of man You have raised up for
Yourself.
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’
Assur also is joined with them: they have
holpen the children of Lot.
Selah.
Even Assyria has joined them,
lending strength to the
sons of Lot.
Selah O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the
son of thine
handmaid.
Turn to me and have mercy; grant Your strength to Your servant; save the
son of Your
maidservant.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the
sons of the mighty can be
likened unto the LORD?
For who in the
skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD?
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the
son of wickedness
afflict him.
No enemy will exact tribute; no wicked man will
oppress him.
If his children
forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
If his
sons forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments,
Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
You return man to dust, saying, “Return, O sons of mortals.”
Let us come before his presence with
thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Let us enter His presence with
thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him in
song.
O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
O sing unto the LORD a new
song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath
gotten him the victory.
Sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done wonders; His right hand and holy arm have gained Him the victory.
Sing unto the LORD with the
harp; with the
harp, and the voice of a
psalm.
Serve the LORD with
gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Serve the LORD with
gladness; come into His presence with joyful
songs.
O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
O offspring of His servant Abraham, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones.
Yea, they sacrificed their
sons and their daughters unto devils,
They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their
sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of
Canaan: and the land was
polluted with blood.
They shed innocent blood— the blood of their
sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of
Canaan, and the land was
polluted with blood.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Let them give
thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the
sons of men.

Let them give
thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the
sons of men.

O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the
son of thine
handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
Truly, O LORD, I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the
son of Your
maidservant; You have broken my bonds.
The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.
The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation.
Thy statutes have been my
songs in the house of my
pilgrimage.
Your statutes are
songs to me in the house of my
pilgrimage.
Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine flourishing within your house, your sons like olive shoots sitting around your table.
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for
evermore.
If your
sons keep My covenant and the testimony I will teach them, then their
sons will also sit on your throne
forever and ever.”
For there they that carried us away
captive required of us a
song; and they that wasted us required of us
mirth, saying, Sing us one of the
songs of
Zion.
for there our captors requested a
song; our tormentors demanded
songs of joy: “Sing us a
song of
Zion.”
How shall we sing the LORD’S song in a strange land?
How can we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land?
Remember, O LORD, the children of
Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said,
Rase it,
rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
Remember, O LORD, the
sons of
Edom on the day Jerusalem fell: “Destroy it,” they said, “
tear it down to its foundations!”
LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
O LORD, what is man, that You regard him, the son of man that You think of him?
I will sing a new
song unto thee, O God: upon a
psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
I will sing to You a new
song, O God; on a
harp of ten strings I will make music to You—
That our
sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the
similitude of a palace:
Then our
sons will be like plants
nurtured in their youth, our daughters like corner pillars carved to
adorn a palace.
To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.
to make known to men Your mighty acts and the glorious
splendor of Your kingdom.
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
Put not your trust in princes, in
mortal man, who cannot save.
Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
Hallelujah! Sing to the LORD a new
song— His praise in the assembly of the godly.
The
proverbs of Solomon the
son of David, king of Israel;
These are the
proverbs of Solomon
son of David, king of Israel,
My
son, hear the instruction of thy father, and
forsake not the law of thy mother:
Listen, my
son, to your father’s instruction, and do not
forsake the teaching of your mother.
My
son, if sinners
entice thee, consent thou not.
My
son, if sinners
entice you, do not yield to them.
My
son, walk not thou in the way with them;
refrain thy foot from their path:
my son, do not walk the road with them or set foot upon their path.
My
son, if thou
wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
My son, if you accept my words and hide my commandments within you,
My
son,
forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
My
son, do not
forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;
