Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his
sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of
Ararat. And his
son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the
son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah
son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.
At that time Merodach-baladan, the
son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to
Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
At that time Merodach-baladan
son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness and recovery.
And of thy
sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Sing to the LORD a new song— His praise from the ends of the earth— you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who dwell in them.
I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back!’ Bring My
sons from
afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it:
shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
glorified himself in Israel.
Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this;
shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break forth in
song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel.
Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: “How
dare you question Me about My
sons, or
instruct Me in the work of My hands?
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.
Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth; break forth in
song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and He will have
compassion on His
afflicted ones.
Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “Behold, I will lift up My hand to the nations, and raise My
banner to the peoples. They will bring your
sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders.
For the LORD shall comfort
Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like
Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and
gladness shall be found therein,
thanksgiving, and the voice of
melody.
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Why should you be afraid of
mortal man, of a
son of man who
withers like grass?
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
Among all the sons she bore, there is no one to guide her; among all the sons she brought up, there is no one to take her hand.
Thy
sons have
fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the
fury of the LORD, the
rebuke of thy God.
Your
sons have
fainted; they lie at the head of every street, like an
antelope in a net. They are full of the wrath of the LORD, the
rebuke of your God.
As many were
astonied at thee; his
visage was so
marred more than any man, and his form more than the
sons of men:
Just as many were
appalled at Him— His appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man, and His form was
marred beyond human likeness—
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth in
song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall
clap their hands.
You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will
burst into
song before you, and all the trees of the field will
clap their hands.
Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the
son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from
polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Blessed is the man who does this, and the
son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without
profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Neither let the
son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the
eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
Let no foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say, “The LORD will utterly
exclude me from His people.” And let the
eunuch not say, “I am but a dry tree.”
Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of
sons and of daughters: I will give them an
everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
I will give them, in My house and within My walls, a
memorial and a name better than that of
sons and daughters. I will give them an
everlasting name that will not be cut off.
Also the
sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from
polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD to minister to Him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be His servants— all who keep the Sabbath without
profaning it and who hold fast to My covenant—
“But come here, you
sons of a
sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!
Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy
sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be
nursed at thy side.
Lift up your eyes and look around: They all gather and come to you; your
sons will come from
afar, and your daughters will be carried on the arm.
Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of
Tarshish first, to bring thy
sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath
glorified thee.
Surely the islands will wait for Me, with the ships of
Tarshish in the lead, to bring your children from
afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has
glorified you.
And the
sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I
smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Although I struck you in anger, yet in favor I will show you mercy.
The
sons also of them that
afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that
despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
The
sons of your oppressors will come and bow down to you; all who
reviled you will fall facedown at your feet and call you the City of the LORD,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the
sons of the
alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
Strangers will stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners will be your plowmen and vinedressers.
For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy
sons marry thee: and as the
bridegroom rejoiceth over the
bride, so shall thy God
rejoice over thee.
For as a young man marries a young woman, so your
sons will marry you; and as a
bridegroom rejoices over his
bride, so your God will
rejoice over you.
The LORD hath
sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the
sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
The LORD has
sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm: “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have
toiled.
For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
For He said, “They are surely My people,
sons who will not be
disloyal.” So He became their
Savior.
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
As a mother comforts her
son, so will I comfort you, and you will be
consoled over Jerusalem.”
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of
Josiah the
son of Amon king of Judah, in the
thirteenth year of his reign.
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in the
thirteenth year of the reign of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah,
and through the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, until the fifth month of the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
In vain have I
smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath
devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“I have struck your
sons in vain; they accepted no discipline. Your own sword has
devoured your prophets like a
voracious lion.”
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
For shame hath
devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their
sons and their daughters.
From our youth, that shameful god has consumed what our fathers have worked for— their flocks and herds, their sons and daughters.
And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy
sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall
impoverish thy
fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
They will
devour your harvest and food; they will
consume your
sons and daughters; they will eat up your flocks and herds; they will feed on your vines and fig trees. With the sword they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust.”
O ye children of Benjamin, gather
yourselves to
flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the
trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
“Run for cover, O
sons of Benjamin;
flee from Jerusalem! Sound the ram’s horn in Tekoa; send up a signal over Beth-haccherem, for
disaster looms from the north, even great destruction.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “I will lay
stumbling blocks before this people; fathers and
sons alike will be
staggered; friends and neighbors will perish.”
O daughter of my people, dress
yourselves in
sackcloth and roll in ashes.
Mourn with bitter
wailing, as you would for an only
son, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.
The children gather wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women
knead their
dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
The
sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women
knead the
dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to
provoke Me to anger.
And they have built the high places of
Tophet, which is in the valley of the
son of
Hinnom, to burn their
sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of
Hinnom so they could burn their
sons and daughters in the fire—something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My mind.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called
Tophet, nor the valley of the
son of
Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall
bury in
Tophet, till there be no place.
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of
Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
My tent is destroyed, and all its ropes are
snapped. My
sons have departed from me and are no more. I have no one left to pitch my tent or set up my curtains.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will
punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their
sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
So this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “I will
punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their
sons and daughters by famine.
And I will
dash them one against another, even the fathers and the
sons together, saith the LORD: I will not
pity, nor
spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
I will
smash them against one another, fathers and
sons alike, declares the LORD. I will allow no mercy or
pity or
compassion to keep Me from destroying them.’”
And the people to whom they
prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to
bury them, them, their wives, nor their
sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
And the people to whom they
prophesy will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to
bury them or their wives, their
sons or their daughters. I will pour out their own evil upon them.
And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of
Manasseh the
son of
Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
I will make them a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what
Manasseh son of
Hezekiah king of Judah did in Jerusalem.
Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.
“You must not marry or have sons or daughters in this place.”
For thus saith the LORD concerning the
sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that
begat them in this land;
For this is what the LORD says concerning the sons and daughters born in this place, and the mothers who bore them, and the fathers who fathered them in this land:
And go forth unto the valley of the
son of
Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and
proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,
and go out to the Valley of Ben-
hinnom near the entrance of the
Potsherd Gate.
Proclaim there the words I speak to you,
They have built also the high places of
Baal, to burn their
sons with fire for burnt offerings unto
Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
They have built high places to
Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as offerings to
Baal—something I never commanded or mentioned, nor did it even enter My mind.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called
Tophet, nor The valley of the
son of
Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben-
hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.
And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their
sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness,
wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall
straiten them.
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and distress inflicted on them by their enemies who seek their lives.’
Now Pashur the
son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah
prophesied these things.
When Pashhur the priest, the
son of Immer and the chief official in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah
prophesying these things,
Cursed be the man who brought
tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very
glad.
Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, saying, “A
son is born to you,” bringing him great joy.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king
Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the
son of Melchiah, and
Zephaniah the
son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when King
Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur
son of Malchijah and the priest
Zephaniah son of Maaseiah. They said,
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the
son of
Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of
Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
For this is what the LORD says concerning Shallum
son of
Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father
Josiah but has gone forth from this place: “He will never return,
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah; They shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah my brother! or,
Ah sister! they shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah lord! or,
Ah his glory!
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah were the
signet upon my right hand, yet would I
pluck thee thence;
“As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a
signet ring on My right hand, I would pull you off.
The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away
captive Jeconiah the
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
After
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away Jeconiah
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, as well as the officials of Judah and the
craftsmen and metalsmiths from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon, the LORD showed me two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple of the LORD.
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;
This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah the
son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and
twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not
hearkened.
“From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—twenty-three years—the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not
listened.
In the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,
At the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the LORD:
And there was also a man that
prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the
son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who
prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
Now there was another man
prophesying in the name of the LORD, Uriah
son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He
prophesied against this city and against this land the same things that Jeremiah did.
And
Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the
son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
Then King
Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan
son of Achbor along with some other men.
Nevertheless the hand of
Ahikam the
son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
Nevertheless,
Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
In the beginning of the reign of
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
At the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD.
And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
All nations will serve him and his
son and grandson, until the time of his own land comes; then many nations and great kings will
enslave him.
Which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away
captive Jeconiah the
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;
which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he carried Jeconiah
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem.
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the
son of Azur the prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of Judah, the prophet Hananiah
son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the
captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the LORD: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
And I will restore to this place Jeconiah
son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with all the exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”
By the hand of Elasah the
son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the
son of Hilkiah, (whom
Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,
The letter was entrusted to Elasah
son of Shaphan and Gemariah
son of Hilkiah, whom
Zedekiah king of Judah sent to King
Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It stated:
Take ye wives, and
beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your
sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear
sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
Take wives and have sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of
Ahab the
son of Kolaiah, and of
Zedekiah the
son of Maaseiah, which
prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall
slay them before your eyes;
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says about
Ahab son of Kolaiah and
Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are
prophesying to you lies in My name: “I will deliver them to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will kill them before your very eyes.
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to
Zephaniah the
son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “In your own name you have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest
Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests. You said to
Zephaniah:
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious
son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
Behold, Hanameel the
son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of
redemption is thine to
buy it.
Behold! Hanamel, the
son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘
Buy for
yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the right of
redemption to
buy it.’
So Hanameel mine uncle’s
son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s
son, that was in Anathoth, and
weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
So I bought the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I
weighed out seventeen shekels of silver.
And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the
son of Neriah, the
son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle’s
son, and in the presence of the witnesses that
subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.
and I gave this deed to
Baruch son of Neriah, the
son of Mahseiah, in the sight of my cousin Hanamel and the witnesses who were signing the purchase agreement and all the Jews sitting in the
courtyard of the guard.
Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the
son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,
After I had given the deed of purchase to
Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
the One great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are on all the ways of the sons of men, to reward each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the
son of
Hinnom, to cause their
sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to make their
sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to sin.
Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant and with My ministers the Levites who are priests, so that David will not have a son to reign on his throne.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah:
Then I took Jaazaniah the
son of Jeremiah, the
son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his
sons, and the whole house of the
Rechabites;
So I took Jaazaniah
son of Jeremiah, the
son of Habazziniah, and his brothers and all his
sons—the entire house of the
Rechabites—
And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:
and I brought them into the house of the LORD, to a chamber occupied by the
sons of Hanan
son of Igdaliah, a man of God. This room was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah
son of Shallum the
doorkeeper.
And I set before the
sons of the house of the
Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.
Then I set pitchers full of wine and some cups before the men of the house of the
Rechabites, and I said to them, “Drink some wine.”
But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:
“We do not drink wine,” they replied, “for our
forefather Jonadab
son of Rechab commanded us, ‘Neither you nor your descendants are ever to drink wine.
Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
And we have obeyed the voice of our
forefather Jonadab
son of Rechab in all he commanded us. So we have not
drunk wine all our lives—neither we nor our wives nor our
sons and daughters.
The words of Jonadab the
son of Rechab, that he commanded his
sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye
hearkened not unto me.
The words of Jonadab
son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his
sons not to drink wine, and they have not
drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their
forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
Because the
sons of Jonadab the
son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not
hearkened unto me:
Yes, the
sons of Jonadab
son of Rechab carried out the command their
forefather gave them, but these people have not
listened to Me.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
And it came to pass in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the
son of
Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
In the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Then Jeremiah called
Baruch the
son of Neriah: and
Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
So Jeremiah called
Baruch son of Neriah, and at the
dictation of Jeremiah,
Baruch wrote on a
scroll all the words that the LORD had spoken to Jeremiah.
