Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with
shouting, and with
sound of the
cornet, and with
trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with
psalteries and harps.
So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with
shouting, with the
sounding of rams’ horns and
trumpets, and with cymbals and the music of harps and lyres.
Asaph the chief, and next to him
Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-
edom: and Jeiel with
psalteries and with harps; but
Asaph made a
sound with cymbals;
Asaph was the chief,
Zechariah was second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-
edom, and Jeiel. They were to play the harps and lyres, while
Asaph sounded the cymbals
And with them Heman and
Jeduthun with
trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a
sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of
Jeduthun were
porters.
Heman and
Jeduthun had with them
trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for the songs of God. And the sons of
Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
To Obed-
edom southward; and to his sons the house of
Asuppim.
The lot for the
South Gate fell to Obed-
edom, and the lot for the storehouses to his sons.
Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day,
southward four a day, and toward
Asuppim two and two.
Each day there were six Levites on the east, four on the north, four on the
south, and two pairs at the
storehouse.
Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the
fortieth year of the reign of David they were
sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of
Gilead.
As for the Hebronites, Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, according to the
genealogies of his ancestors. In the
fortieth year of David’s reign the records were searched, and strong, capable men were found among the Hebronites at Jazer in
Gilead.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation
sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand
Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.
Then he set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the
south and one on the north. The
pillar on the
south he named
Jachin, and the
pillar on the north he named Boaz.
It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and placed five on the
south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the priests used the Sea for washing.
And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.
He made ten gold lampstands according to their specifications and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north.
He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold.
Additionally, he made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the
south side and five on the north. He also made a hundred gold
bowls.
And he set the sea on the right side of the east end, over against the south.
He put the Sea on the
south side, at the
southeast corner.
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being
arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests
sounding with
trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests
sounding trumpets.
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one
sound to be heard in praising and
thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their
soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and
soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests
sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests
sounded trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth
sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and
sought many wives for them.
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with
sounding trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.”
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests
sounded with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have
sought the LORD our God, we have
sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have
sought the LORD our God. We have
sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought Him, and He was found by them.
And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
And all Judah
rejoiced at the oath: for they had
sworn with all their heart, and
sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
And all Judah
rejoiced over the oath, for they had
sworn it with all their heart. They had
sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
And
Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he
sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign,
Asa became diseased in his feet, and his
malady became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.
And the LORD was with
Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and
sought not unto
Baalim;
Now the LORD was with
Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek out the Baals,
But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
And he
sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was
hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who
sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s soldiers captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who
sought the LORD with all his heart.” So no one was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
He stationed all the troops, with their weapons in hand, surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his
pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the
trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land
rejoiced, and
sounded with
trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then
Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw the king standing by his
pillar at the entrance. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets, while the singers with musical instruments were leading the praises. Then
Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason, treason!”
Wherefore the anger of the LORD was
kindled against
Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou
sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
Therefore the anger of the LORD burned against
Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet, who said, “Why have you
sought this people’s gods, which could not deliver them from your hand?”
But
Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they
sought after the gods of
Edom.
But
Amaziah would not
listen, for this had come from God in order to deliver them into the hand of Jehoash, because they had
sought the gods of
Edom.
And he
sought God in the days of
Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he
sought the LORD, God made him to
prosper.
He
sought God throughout the days of
Zechariah, who
instructed him in the fear of God. And as long as he
sought the LORD, God gave him success.
The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.
The Philistines had also
raided the cities of the foothills and the Negev of Judah, capturing and occupying Beth-shemesh,
Aijalon, and Gederoth, as well as Soco, Timnah, and Gimzo with their villages.
And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers
sang, and the trumpeters
sounded: and all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.
The whole assembly was worshiping, the singers were singing, and the trumpeters were playing. All this continued until the burnt offering was completed.
And when he was in
affliction, he
besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
And in his distress,
Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers.
And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his
soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his
soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book.
These
sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as
polluted, put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
So that the people could not
discern the noise of the
shout of joy from the noise of the
weeping of the people: for the people
shouted with a loud
shout, and the noise was heard
afar off.
The people could not distinguish the shouts of joy from the
sound of
weeping, because the people were making so much noise. And the
sound was heard from
afar.
For the builders, every one had his sword
girded by his side, and so builded. And he that
sounded the
trumpet was by me.
And each of the builders worked with his sword
strapped at his side. But the
trumpeter stayed beside me.
In what place therefore ye hear the
sound of the
trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.
Wherever you hear the
sound of the horn,
rally to us there. Our God will fight for us!”
These
sought their register among those that were reckoned by
genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as
polluted, put from the priesthood.
These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
And at the
dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they
sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the
dedication with
gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals,
psalteries, and with harps.
Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:
Then the king’s attendants proposed, “Let a search be made for beautiful young virgins for the king,
In those days, while
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were
wroth, and
sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
And he thought
scorn to lay hands on
Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of
Mordecai: wherefore
Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of
Ahasuerus, even the people of
Mordecai.
And when he learned the identity of
Mordecai’s people, he
scorned the notion of laying hands on
Mordecai alone. Instead, he
sought to destroy all of
Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the kingdom of
Xerxes.
And it was found written, that
Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who
sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
And there it was found recorded that
Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the king’s entrance, when they had
conspired to
assassinate King
Xerxes.
The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as
sought their
hurt: and no man could
withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
In each of the provinces of King
Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who
sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples.
Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
Why is light given to the
miserable, and life to the bitter of
soul,
The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.
My
soul refuses to touch them; they are
loathsome food to me.
Therefore I will not
refrain my mouth; I will speak in the
anguish of my spirit; I will
complain in the bitterness of my
soul.
Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the
anguish of my spirit; I will
complain in the bitterness of my
soul.
So that my
soul chooseth
strangling, and death rather than my life.
He is the Maker of the Bear and
Orion, of the
Pleiades and the constellations of the
south.
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my
soul: I would
despise my life.
My
soul is
weary of my life; I will leave my
complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my
soul.
“I
loathe my own life; I will express my
complaint and speak in the bitterness of my
soul.
For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
You have said, ‘My doctrine is sound, and I am pure in Your sight.’
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.
But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his
soul within him shall
mourn.
He feels only the pain of his own body and mourns only for himself.”
A
dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Sounds of terror fill his ears; in his prosperity the destroyer attacks him.
I also could speak as ye do: if your
soul were in my
soul’s
stead, I could
heap up words against you, and
shake mine head at you.
I could also speak like you if you were in my place; I could
heap up words against you and
shake my head at you.
How long will ye
vex my
soul, and break me in pieces with words?
Yet his meat in his
bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
yet in his stomach his food
sours into the
venom of cobras within him.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
Yet another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, having never tasted prosperity.
On the left hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
But He is unchangeable, and who can
oppose Him? He does what He desires.
Men
groan from out of the city, and the
soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.
From the city, men
groan, and the
souls of the wounded cry out, yet God charges no one with
wrongdoing.
How hast thou counseled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou
plentifully declared the thing as it is?
How you have counseled the unwise and provided fully sound insight!
As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the
Almighty, who hath
vexed my
soul;
“As surely as God lives, who has deprived me of justice— the
Almighty, who has embittered my
soul—
For what is the hope of the
hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his
soul?
For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
Its rocks are the source of sapphires, containing flecks of gold.
He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is
hid bringeth he forth to light.
He stops up the sources of the streams to bring what is hidden to light.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my
soul as the wind: and my
welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors are turned loose against me; they drive away my dignity as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
And now my
soul is poured out upon me; the days of
affliction have taken hold upon me.
Did not I
weep for him that was in trouble? was not my
soul grieved for the poor?
My
harp also is turned to
mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that
weep.
Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a
curse to his
soul.
I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life with a
curse—
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
to preserve his soul from the Pit and his life from perishing by the sword.
So that his life abhorreth bread, and his
soul dainty meat.
so that he detests his bread, and his
soul loathes his
favorite food.
Yea, his
soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
He draws near to the Pit, and his life to the messengers of death.
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
He redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit, and I will live to see the light.’
To bring back his
soul from the pit, to be
enlightened with the light of the living.
to bring back his
soul from the Pit, that he may be
enlightened with the light of life.
Hear
attentively the noise of his voice, and the
sound that goeth out of his mouth.
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his
excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
Then there comes a
roaring sound; He thunders with His
majestic voice. He does not restrain the
lightning when His voice resounds.
Out of the
south cometh the
whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
The
tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?
You whose clothes get hot when the land lies
hushed under the
south wind,
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and
rage: neither believeth he that it is the
sound of the
trumpet.
Trembling with excitement, he devours the distance; he cannot stand still when the ram’s horn
sounds.
Doth the
hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the
south?
Does the
hawk take flight by your understanding and spread his wings toward the
south?
A club is regarded as straw, and he laughs at the
sound of the
lance.
Many there be which say of my
soul, There is no help for him in God.
Selah.
Many say of me, “God will not deliver him.”
Selah Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
Attend to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I pray.
My
soul is also
sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?
Return, O LORD, deliver my
soul: oh save me for thy
mercies’ sake.
Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.
Lest he
tear my
soul like a lion,
rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
or they will
shred my
soul like a lion and
tear me to pieces with no one to
rescue me.
Let the enemy
persecute my
soul, and take it;
yea, let him
tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust.
Selah.
then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he
trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust.
Selah In the LORD put I my trust: How say ye to my
soul,
Flee as a bird to your mountain?
In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “
Flee like a bird to your mountain!
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked; His soul hates the lover of violence.
How long shall I take counsel in my
soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be
exalted over me?
How long must I
wrestle in my
soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy
dominate me?
