And
Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the
tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
And
Elijah took twelve stones, one for each
tribe of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come and said, “Israel shall be your name.”
So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall we
forbear? And he answered him, Go, and
prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and
triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.”
Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD
bowls of silver,
snuffers, basons,
trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:
However, the money brought into the house of the LORD was not used for making silver basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls,
trumpets, or any articles of gold or silver for the house of the LORD.
Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.
Shalmaneser king of Assyria attacked him, and Hoshea became his
vassal and paid him
tribute.
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had not paid
tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison.
Therefore the LORD was very
angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the
tribe of Judah only.
So the LORD was very
angry with Israel, and He removed them from His presence. Only the
tribe of Judah remained,
And he set a
graven image of the
grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all
tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved Asherah pole he had made and set it up in the temple, of which the LORD had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the
tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a
tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned
Jehoahaz at Riblah in the land of
Hamath so that he could not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the pots, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
The sons of
Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the
tribe of
Manasseh, of
valiant men, men able to bear
buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and
threescore, that went out to the war.
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh had 44,760 warriors—
valiant men who carried the shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for battle.
Now the people of the half-
tribe of
Manasseh were numerous. They settled in the land from
Bashan to
Baal-
hermon (that is, Senir, also known as Mount
Hermon).
And the God of Israel
stirred up the spirit of
Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half
tribe of
Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
So the God of Israel
stirred up the spirit of
Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria) to take the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh into exile. And he brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan, where they remain to this day.
And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
And from the
tribe of Benjamin they were given
Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands. So they had thirteen cities in all among their families.
And unto the sons of
Kohath, which were left of the family of that
tribe, were cities given out of the half
tribe, namely, out of the half
tribe of
Manasseh, by lot, ten cities.
To the rest of the Kohathites, ten cities were
allotted from the half-
tribe of
Manasseh.
And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families out of the
tribe of
Issachar, and out of the
tribe of Asher, and out of the
tribe of
Naphtali, and out of the
tribe of
Manasseh in
Bashan, thirteen cities.
Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the
tribe of
Reuben, and out of the
tribe of
Gad, and out of the
tribe of
Zebulun, twelve cities.
And they gave by lot out of the
tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the
tribe of the children of
Simeon, and out of the
tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.
They assigned by lot the cities named above from the
tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And the residue of the families of the sons of
Kohath had cities of their coasts out of the
tribe of Ephraim.
And some of the clans of the Kohathites were given cities from the tribe of Ephraim for their territory:
And out of the half
tribe of
Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs, and Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the
remnant of the sons of
Kohath.
And from the half-
tribe of
Manasseh the remaining clans of the Kohathites were given Aner and Bileam, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half
tribe of
Manasseh, Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, and
Ashtaroth with her suburbs:
The Gershomites received the following: From the clan of the half-
tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan and also
Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the
tribe of
Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath with her suburbs,
From the
tribe of
Issachar they were given Kedesh, Daberath,
And out of the tribe of Asher; Mashal with her suburbs, and Abdon with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Asher they were given Mashal, Abdon,
And out of the
tribe of
Naphtali; Kedesh in
Galilee with her suburbs, and Hammon with her suburbs, and Kirjathaim with her suburbs.
And from the
tribe of
Naphtali they were given Kedesh in
Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the
tribe of
Zebulun.
Rimmon with her suburbs,
Tabor with her suburbs:
The Merarites (the rest of the Levites) received the following: From the
tribe of
Zebulun they were given Rimmono and
Tabor, together with their pasturelands.
And on the other side Jordan by
Jericho, on the east side of Jordan, were given them out of the
tribe of
Reuben,
Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs, and Jahzah with her suburbs,
From the
tribe of
Reuben east of the Jordan opposite
Jericho they were given
Bezer in the wilderness, Jahzah,
And of the half
tribe of
Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king.
From the half-
tribe of
Manasseh: 18,000 designated by name to come and make David king.
And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half
tribe of
Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand.
And from east of the Jordan, from
Reuben,
Gad, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh there: 120,000 armed with every kind of weapon of war.
And he
smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.
David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.
Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him
tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.
As for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half
tribe of
Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
Among Jerijah’s relatives there were 2,700 capable men who were heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and to the affairs of the king.
Furthermore over the
tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was
Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah:
These officers were in charge of the
tribes of Israel: Over the Reubenites was
Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah son of
Maacah;
Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half
tribe of
Manasseh,
Joel the son of Pedaiah:
over the Ephraimites was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over one of the half-
tribes of
Manasseh was
Joel son of Pedaiah;
Of
Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the
tribes of Israel.
and over
Dan was Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the
tribes of Israel.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the
tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the
tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of
valor.
Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,
Then the leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
I know, my God, that You test the heart and delight in uprightness. All these things I have given willingly and with an upright heart, and now I have seen Your people who are present here giving
joyfully and willingly to You.
And the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.
the
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers of purest gold; and the gold doors of the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy Place as well as the doors of the main hall.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the
tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any
tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and
raiment,
harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring his
tribute: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the
tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
So king
Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the
tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus King
Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the
tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the
tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to
Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
Also some of the Philistines brought
Jehoshaphat presents, and
tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as
tribute to
Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and
prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and
triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they will be given into your hand.”
And the
Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
The
Ammonites brought
tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, for he had become exceedingly powerful.
And he set a carved image, the
idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the
tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved image he had made and set it up in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the
tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the
scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,
From Rehum the commander, Shimshai the
scribe, and the rest of their associates—the judges and officials over
Tripolis, Persia, Erech and Babylon, the Elamites of
Susa,
Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay
toll,
tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt
endamage the revenue of the kings.
Let it now be known to the king that if that city is rebuilt and its walls are restored, they will not pay
tribute, duty, or
toll, and the royal treasury will suffer.
There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and
toll,
tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
And mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem and exercised authority over the whole region west of the Euphrates; and
tribute, duty, and
toll were paid to them.
Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the
tribute beyond the river,
forthwith expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.
I
hereby decree what you must do for these elders of the Jews who are rebuilding this house of God: The cost is to be paid in full to these men from the royal treasury out of the taxes of the provinces west of the Euphrates, so that the work will not be hindered.
And offered at the
dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the
tribes of Israel.
For the
dedication of the house of God they offered a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and a sin offering for all Israel of twelve male goats, one for each
tribe of Israel.
Also we
certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers,
porters,
Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to
impose toll,
tribute, or custom, upon them.
And be
advised that you have no authority to
impose tribute, duty, or
toll on any of the priests, Levites, singers, doorkeepers, temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.
There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
Still others were saying, “We have borrowed money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.
My God, think thou upon
Tobiah and
Sanballat according to these their works, and on the
prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.
Now there was at the citadel of
Susa a Jewish man from the
tribe of Benjamin named
Mordecai son of
Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of
Kish.
And the king
Ahasuerus laid a
tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea.
Now King
Xerxes imposed
tribute throughout the land, even to its
farthest shores.
When the
scourge brings sudden death, He mocks the
despair of the innocent.
The steps of his strength shall be
straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
That the
triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the
hypocrite but for a moment?
the
triumph of the wicked has been brief and the joy of the godless
momentary?
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
For the ear tests words as the mouth tastes food.
My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
If only Job were tried to the utmost for answering like a wicked man.
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God
trieth the hearts and
reins.
Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked; His soul hates the lover of violence.
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver
tried in a furnace of earth,
purified seven times.
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast
tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not
transgress.
You have tried my heart; You have visited me in the night. You have tested me and found no evil; I have resolved not to sin with my mouth.
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is
tried: he is a
buckler to all those that trust in him.
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is
flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be
ashamed, let not mine enemies
triumph over me.
in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies
exult over me.
By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy
doth not
triumph over me.
By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
O
clap your hands, all ye people;
shout unto God with the voice of
triumph.
Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout unto God with a voice of
triumph.
God has spoken from His sanctuary: “I will
triumph! I will
parcel out
Shechem and
apportion the Valley of Succoth.
Moab is my
washpot; over
Edom will I cast out my
shoe: Philistia,
triumph thou because of me.
The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they
shout for joy, they also sing.
The pastures are clothed with flocks, and the valleys are decked with grain. They
shout in
triumph; indeed, they sing.
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us like silver.
The kings of
Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of
Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
May the kings of
Tarshish and distant shores bring
tribute; may the kings of
Sheba and Seba offer gifts.
When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
When I
tried to understand all this, it was
troublesome in my sight
Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount
Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
Remember Your congregation, which You purchased long ago and redeemed as the
tribe of Your inheritance— Mount
Zion where You dwell.
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
Make and
fulfill your vows to the LORD your God; let all the
neighboring lands bring
tribute to Him who is to be feared.
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
He drove out nations before them and
apportioned their inheritance; He settled the
tribes of Israel in their tents.
Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
He rejected the tent of Joseph and refused the tribe of Ephraim.
But chose the
tribe of Judah, the mount
Zion which he loved.
But He chose the
tribe of Judah, Mount
Zion, which He loved.
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness
afflict him.
No enemy will exact
tribute; no wicked man will
oppress him.
For thou, LORD, hast made me
glad through thy work: I will
triumph in the works of thy hands.
For You, O LORD, have made me
glad by Your deeds; I sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked
exult?
When your fathers
tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.
where your fathers tested and tried Me, though they had seen My work.
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
until his
prediction came true and the word of the LORD proved him right.
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and none among His
tribes stumbled.
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give
thanks unto thy holy name, and to
triumph in thy praise.
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give
thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.
God has spoken from His sanctuary: “I will
triumph! I will
parcel out
Shechem and
apportion the Valley of Succoth.
Moab is my
washpot; over
Edom will I cast out my
shoe; over Philistia will I
triumph.
When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayer be regarded as sin.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
His heart is
assured; he does not fear, until he looks in
triumph on his foes.
The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that
hate me.
The LORD is on my side; He is my helper. Therefore I will look in
triumph on those who
hate me.
