Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there; and the final
plight of
that man is worse than the first. So will it be with this wicked generation.”
But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
But Jesus replied, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?”
The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.
And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
Such large crowds gathered around Him that He got into a boat and sat down, while all the people stood on the shore.
For
whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but
whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even
that he hath.
Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.
Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
For
verily I say unto you,
That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
When
anyone hears the message of the kingdom but does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.
But he
that received the seed into
stony places, the same is he
that heareth the word, and
anon with joy receiveth it;
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
He also
that received seed among the thorns is he
that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the
deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the
worries of this life and the
deceitfulness of wealth
choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
But he
that received seed into the good ground is he
that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an
hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
But the seed sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and produces a crop—a
hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold.”
He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him,
Wilt thou then
that we go and gather them up?
‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my
barn.
Let both grow together until the harvest. At
that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my
barn.’”
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of
mustard seed, which a man took, and
sowed in his field:
He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a
mustard seed
that a man planted in his field.
Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so
that the birds of the air come and
lodge in the branches thereof.
Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto
leaven, which a woman took, and
hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was
leavened.
He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like
leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was
leavened.”
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
He replied, “The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
The enemy
that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things
that offend, and them which do iniquity;
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will
weed out of His kingdom every cause of sin and all who practice
lawlessness.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto
treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all
that he hath, and buyeth
that field.
The kingdom of heaven is like
treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he
hid it again, and in his joy he went and sold all he had and bought
that field.
Who, when he had found one
pearl of great price, went and sold all
that he had, and bought it.
When he found one very precious
pearl, he went away and sold all he had and bought it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and caught all kinds of fish.
Then said he unto them, Therefore every
scribe which is
instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man
that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his
treasure things new and old.
Then He told them, “For this reason, every
scribe who has been discipled in the kingdom of heaven is like a homeowner who brings out of his
storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
When Jesus had finished these parables, He withdrew from that place.
And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their
synagogue,
insomuch that they were
astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Coming to His hometown, He taught the people in their
synagogue, and they were
astonished. “Where did this man get such wisdom and
miraculous powers?” they asked.
At
that time Herod the
tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
At
that time Herod the
tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus
And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do
shew forth themselves in him.
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead!
That is why
miraculous powers are at work in him.”
so much that he promised with an oath to give to her whatever she asked.
And the king was
sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
The king was
grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered
that her wish be granted
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away,
that they may go into the villages, and
buy themselves
victuals.
When evening came, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a
desolate place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so they can go to the villages and
buy themselves some food.”
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken pieces
that were left over.
And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
About five thousand men were fed, in addition to women and children.
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding region. People brought all the sick to Him
And
besought him
that they might only touch the
hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’
But ye say,
Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
But you say
that if
anyone says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
A man is not
defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it.”
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou
that the
Pharisees were
offended, after they heard this saying?
Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Are You aware
that the
Pharisees were
offended when they heard this?”
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
But Jesus replied, “Every plant that My heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by its roots.
Do not ye yet understand,
that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the
belly, and is cast out into the draught?
“Do you not yet
realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is
eliminated?
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they
defile the man.
But the things
that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things
defile a man.
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and
Sidon.
Leaving
that place, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and
Sidon.
And, behold, a woman of
Canaan came out of the same coasts, and
cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is
grievously vexed with a devil.
And a
Canaanite woman from
that region came to Him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is
miserably possessed by a
demon.”
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
“
Yes, Lord,” she said, “even the dogs eat the crumbs
that fall from their master’s table.”
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou
wilt. And her daughter was made whole from
that very hour.
“O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was
healed from
that very hour.
And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those
that were
lame, blind,
dumb,
maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he
healed them:
Large crowds came to Him, bringing the
lame, the blind, the
crippled, the
mute, and many others, and laid them at His feet, and He
healed them.
Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the
dumb to speak, the
maimed to be whole, the
lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they
glorified the God of Israel.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up seven
basketfuls of broken pieces
that were left over.
And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
A total of four thousand men were fed, in addition to women and children.
Then the
Pharisees and
Sadducees came and tested Jesus by asking Him to show them a sign from heaven.
How is it
that ye do not understand
that I spake it not to you concerning bread,
that ye should
beware of the
leaven of the
Pharisees and of the
Sadducees?
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say
that I the Son of man am?
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea
Philippi, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?”
And I say also unto thee,
That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.
Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
From
that time forth began Jesus to
shew unto his disciples, how
that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
From
that time on Jesus began to show His disciples
that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and
that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me,
Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things
that be of God, but those
that be of men.
But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me,
Satan! You are a
stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the
scribes that Elias must first come?
The disciples asked Him, “Why then do the
scribes say
that Elijah must come first?”
But I say unto you,
That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him
whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
But I tell you
that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him whatever they wished. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”
Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist.
And Jesus
rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from
that very hour.
Then Jesus
rebuked the
demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was
healed from
that moment.
And when they were come to
Capernaum, they
that received tribute money came to Peter, and said,
Doth not your master pay tribute?
After they had arrived in
Capernaum, the collectors of the two-
drachma tax came to Peter and asked, “Does your Teacher pay the two
drachmas?”
Notwithstanding, lest we should
offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish
that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money:
that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
“But so
that we may not
offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-
drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
But
whoso shall
offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him
that a
millstone were
hanged about his neck, and
that he were
drowned in the depth of the sea.
But if
anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to
stumble, it would be better for him to have a large
millstone hung around his neck and to be
drowned in the depths of the sea.
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be
that offences come; but
woe to
that man by whom the offence cometh!
Woe to the world for the causes of sin. These
stumbling blocks must come, but
woe to the man through whom they come!
Take
heed that ye
despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you,
That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone
astray,
doth he not leave the
ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh
that which is gone
astray?
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes
astray, will he not leave the
ninety-nine on the hills and go out to search for the one
that is lost?
And if so be
that he find it,
verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of
that sheep, than of the
ninety and nine which went not
astray.
And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices more over
that one sheep than over the
ninety-nine
that did not go
astray.
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
But if he will not
listen, take one or two others along, so
that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.
But
forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all
that he had, and payment to be made.
Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.
Then the lord of
that servant was moved with
compassion, and loosed him, and
forgave him the debt.
But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred
pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me
that thou owest.
But when
that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred
denarii. He
grabbed him and began to
choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’
So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very
sorry, and came and told unto their lord all
that was done.
When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and recounted all of this to their master.
Then his lord, after
that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I
forgave thee all
that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Then the master summoned him and declared, ‘You wicked servant! I
forgave all your debt because you
begged me.
And his lord was
wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all
that was due unto him.
In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be
tortured, until he should repay all
that he owed.
So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts
forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you
forgive your brother from your heart.”
And it came to pass,
that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from
Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
When Jesus had finished saying these things, He left
Galilee and went into the region of
Judea beyond the Jordan.
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Jesus answered, “Have you not read
that from the beginning the
Creator ‘made them male and female,’
Now I tell you
that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits
adultery.”
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s
womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He
that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
Then were there brought unto him little children,
that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples
rebuked them.
Then the little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them. And the disciples
rebuked those who brought them.
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Just then a man came up to Jesus and inquired, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to obtain eternal life?”
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one,
that is, God: but if thou
wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
“Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
Jesus said unto him, If thou
wilt be perfect, go and sell
that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
Verily I say unto you,
That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
And Jesus said unto them,
Verily I say unto you,
That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the
renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And every one
that hath
forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an
hundredfold, and shall
inherit everlasting life.
And
everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My name will receive a
hundredfold and will
inherit eternal life.
But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.
For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man
that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to
hire labourers into his
vineyard.
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a
landowner who went out early in the morning to
hire workers for his
vineyard.
They say unto him, Because no man hath
hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the
vineyard; and
whatsoever is right,
that shall ye receive.
‘Because no one has
hired us,’ they answered. So he told them, ‘You also go into my
vineyard.’
And when they came
that were
hired about the
eleventh hour, they received every man a
penny.
But when the first came, they supposed
that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a
penny.
So when the original workers came, they assumed they would receive more. But each of them also received a
denarius.
