And it came to pass, that in process of
time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
And it came to pass after this, that
Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
Some
time later,
Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
Now it came to pass, that at what
time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
Now after the
time that
Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a
conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to
Lachish: but they sent to
Lachish after him, and
slew him there.
From the
time that
Amaziah turned from following the LORD, a
conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were sent after him to
Lachish, and they killed him there.
At that
time did king
Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
At that
time King
Ahaz sent for help from the king of Assyria.
And in the
time of his distress did he
trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king
Ahaz.
In the
time of his distress, King
Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD.
For they could not keep it at that
time, because the priests had not
sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.
since they had been unable to observe it at the regular time, because not enough priests had consecrated themselves and the people had not been gathered in Jerusalem.
So they established a decree to make
proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long
time in such sort as it was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem. For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem, for nothing like this had happened there since the days of Solomon son of David king of Israel.
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of
Hinnom: also he observed
times, and used enchantments, and used
witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of
Hinnom. He practiced
sorcery,
divination, and
witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
And the children of Israel that were present kept the
passover at that
time, and the feast of
unleavened bread seven days.
The Israelites who were present also observed the
Passover at that
time, as well as the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days.
Then they came to
Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up
hither.
they approached
Zerubbabel and the heads of the families, saying, “Let us build with you because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the
time of King Esar-haddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”
And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble
Asnapper brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a
time.
and the rest of the peoples whom the great and honorable Ashurbanipal
deported and settled in the cities of Samaria and elsewhere west of the Euphrates.
This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto
Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a
time.
(This is the text of the letter they sent to him.) To King
Artaxerxes, From your servants, the men west of the Euphrates:
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a
rebellious city, and
hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved
sedition within the same of old
time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
that a search should be made of the record books of your fathers. In these books you will discover and
verify that the city is a
rebellious city,
harmful to kings and provinces,
inciting sedition from ancient
times. That is why this city was destroyed.
Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the
scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a
time.
Then the king sent this reply: To Rehum the commander, Shimshai the
scribe, and the rest of your associates living in Samaria and elsewhere in the region west of the Euphrates: Greetings.
And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old
time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and
sedition have been made therein.
I issued a decree, and a search was conducted. It was discovered that this city has revolted against kings from ancient
times,
engaging in rebellion and
sedition.
At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
At that time Tattenai the governor of the region west of the Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their associates went to the Jews and asked, “Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and restore this structure?”
Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been under construction, but it has not yet been completed.”
Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto
Ezra the priest, a
scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a
time.
Artaxerxes, king of kings. To
Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the Law of the God of heaven: Greetings.
By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.
Everything was
verified by number and weight, and the total weight was recorded at that
time.
But the people are many, and it is a
time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have
transgressed in this thing.
But there are many people here, and it is the
rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have
transgressed greatly in this matter.
Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let
everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed
time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
O Lord, I
beseech thee, let now thine ear be
attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and
prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s
cupbearer.
O Lord, may Your ear be
attentive to my prayer and to the prayers of Your servants who delight to
revere Your name. Give Your servant success this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” (At that
time I was the
cupbearer to the king.)
And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when
wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a
time.
Then the king, with the queen seated beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time.
And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.
At that time the Jews who lived nearby came and told us ten times over, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.”
And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
And from that day on, half of my servants did the work while the other half held spears, shields, bows, and
armor. The officers stationed themselves behind all the people of Judah
Likewise at the same
time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant
lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.
At that
time I also said to the people, “Let every man and his servant
spend the night inside Jerusalem, so that they can stand guard by night and work by day.”
And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
About that time there was a great outcry from the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.
Moreover from the
time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the
twentieth year even unto the two and
thirtieth year of
Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
Furthermore, from the day King
Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from his
twentieth year until his thirty-second year (twelve years total), neither I nor my brothers
ate the food
allotted to the governor.
Now it came to pass, when
Sanballat, and
Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that
time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
When
Sanballat,
Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and not a
gap was left—though to that
time I had not yet
installed the doors in the gates—
Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.
Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave the same reply.
Then sent
Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth
time with an open letter in his hand;
The fifth
time,
Sanballat sent me this same message by his young servant, who had in his hand an unsealed letter
And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto
Ezra the
scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
At that
time all the people gathered together in the square before the Water Gate, and they asked
Ezra the
scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel.
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who
vexed them: and in the
time of their trouble, when they
cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy
manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
So You delivered them into the hands of enemies who
oppressed them, and in their
time of distress they
cried out to You. From heaven You heard them, and in Your great
compassion You gave them deliverers who saved them from the hands of their enemies.
But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and
cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and many
times didst thou deliver them according to thy
mercies;
But as soon as they had rest, they again did evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to the hands of their enemies, who had dominion over them. When they
cried out to You again, You heard from heaven, and You delivered them many
times in Your
compassion.
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
So now, our God, the great and mighty and
awesome God who keeps His
gracious covenant, do not view lightly all the
hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until
today.
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:
We have cast lots among the priests, Levites, and people for the
donation of wood by our families at the appointed
times each year. They are to bring it to the house of our God to burn on the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the Law.
And at that
time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the
tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah
rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
And on that same day men were appointed over the rooms that housed the supplies, contributions, firstfruits, and
tithes. The portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites were gathered into these storerooms from the fields of the villages, because Judah
rejoiced over the priests and Levites who were serving.
On that day they read in the book of Moses in the
audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the
Ammonite and the
Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
At that
time the Book of Moses was read
aloud in the hearing of the people, and in it they found the passage stating that no
Ammonite or
Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,
But in all this
time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and
thirtieth year of
Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:
While all this was happening, I was not in Jerusalem, because I had returned to
Artaxerxes king of Babylon in the thirty-second year of his reign. Some
time later I obtained leave from the king
Then I
testified against them, and said unto them, Why
lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that
time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
but I
warned them, “Why are you camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands on you.” From that
time on, they did not return on the Sabbath.
And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
I also arranged for contributions of wood at the appointed times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, with favor.
And when these days were
expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in
Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace;
At the end of this
time, in the garden court of the royal palace, the king held a seven-day feast for all the people in the citadel of
Susa, from the least to the greatest.
Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment:
Then the king consulted the wise men who knew the
times, for it was customary for him to
confer with the experts in law and justice.
After these things, when the wrath of king
Ahasuerus was
appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Some
time later, when the anger of King
Xerxes had
subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done, and what had been decreed against her.
And when the virgins were gathered together the second
time, then
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.
When the virgins were assembled a second
time,
Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate.
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this
time, then shall there
enlargement and
deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a
time as this?
For if you remain silent at this
time, relief and
deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a
time as this?”
Then were the king’s
scribes called at that
time in the third month, that is, the month
Sivan, on the three and
twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that
Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the
deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto
Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
At once the royal
scribes were summoned, and on the twenty-third day of the third month (the month of
Sivan), they recorded all of
Mordecai’s orders to the Jews and to the satraps, governors, and princes of the 127 provinces from India to
Cush—writing to each province in its own
script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own
script and language.
The Jews had light, and
gladness, and joy, and honour.
For the Jews it was a
time of light and
gladness, of joy and honor.
The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
the Jews bound themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should not fail to
celebrate these two days at the appointed
time each and every year, according to their regulation.
To
confirm these days of
Purim in their
times appointed, according as
Mordecai the
Jew and
Esther the queen had
enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
in order to
confirm these days of
Purim at their appointed
time, just as
Mordecai the
Jew and Queen
Esther had established them and had committed themselves and their descendants to the
times of fasting and
lamentation.
What
time they wax warm, they
vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
but ceasing in the dry season and
vanishing from their channels in the heat.
Is there not an appointed
time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an
hireling?
“Is not man
consigned to labor on earth? Are not his days like those of a
hired hand?
If he will
contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
If one wished to
contend with God, he could not answer Him one
time out of a thousand.
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a
time to
plead?
If it is a matter of strength, He is indeed mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can
summon Him?
Oh that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest
appoint me a set
time, and remember me!
If only You would hide me in
Sheol and
conceal me until Your anger has passed! If only You would
appoint a
time for me and then remember me!
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
When a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, until my
renewal comes.
It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
It will be paid in full before his
time, and his branch will not
flourish.
These ten
times have ye reproached me: ye are not
ashamed that ye make
yourselves strange to me.
Ten
times now you have reproached me; you
shamelessly mistreat me.
Which were cut down out of
time, whose foundation was
overflown with a flood:
They were
snatched away before their
time, and their foundations were swept away by a flood.
Why, seeing
times are not hidden from the
Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
“Why does the
Almighty not reserve
times for judgment? Why may those who know Him never see His days?
Will he delight himself in the
Almighty? will he always call upon God?
Will he delight in the
Almighty? Will he call upon God at all
times?
For want and famine they were solitary;
fleeing into the wilderness in former
time desolate and waste.
Lo, all these things worketh God
oftentimes with man,
Behold, all these things God does to a man, two or even three times,
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of war and battle?
Knowest thou the
time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do
calve?
“Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you watched the
doe bear her
fawn?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Can you count the months they are
pregnant? Do you know the
time they give birth?
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
Yet when she proudly spreads her wings, she laughs at the horse and its rider.
Thou hast put
gladness in my heart, more than in the
time that their corn and their wine increased.
You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound.
The LORD also will be a refuge for the
oppressed, a refuge in
times of trouble.
Why standest thou
afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou
thyself in
times of trouble?
Why, O LORD, do You stand far off? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
His ways are always
grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
He is secure in his ways at all times; Your lofty judgments are far from him; he sneers at all his foes.
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth,
purified seven
times.
Thou shalt make them as a
fiery oven in the
time of thine anger: the LORD shall
swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall
devour them.
You will place them in a
fiery furnace at the
time of Your appearing. In His wrath the LORD will
engulf them, and the fire will
consume them.
For in the
time of trouble he shall hide me in his
pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; He will
conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high upon a rock.
My
times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that
persecute me.
My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a
time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come
nigh unto him.
Therefore let all the godly pray to You while You may be found. Surely when great waters rise, they will not come near.
I will
bless the LORD at all
times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
I will
bless the LORD at all
times; His praise will always be on my lips.
They shall not be
ashamed in the evil
time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
In the
time of evil they will not be
ashamed, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.
The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their
stronghold in
time of trouble.
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou
didst in their days, in the
times of old.
We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work You did in their days, in the days of old.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Why should I fear in
times of trouble, when wicked usurpers
surround me?
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
But I will sing of thy power;
yea, I will sing
aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.
But I will sing of Your strength and
proclaim Your loving devotion in the morning. For You are my fortress, my refuge in
times of trouble.
Trust in him at all
times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.
Selah.
Trust in Him at all
times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.
Selah But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
But my prayer to You, O LORD, is for a time of favor. In Your abundant loving devotion, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation.
Cast me not off in the
time of old age;
forsake me not when my strength faileth.
Do not discard me in my old age; do not
forsake me when my strength fails.
For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
Yet God is my King from ancient times, working salvation on the earth.
When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.
“When I choose a time, I will judge fairly.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.
Is his mercy clean gone for ever?
doth his promise fail for
evermore?
Is His loving devotion gone
forever? Has His promise failed for all
time?
But he, being full of
compassion,
forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not:
yea, many a
time turned he his anger away, and did not
stir up all his wrath.
And yet He was
compassionate; He
forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. He often restrained His anger and did not
unleash His full wrath.
Blow up the
trumpet in the new moon, in the
time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their
time should have
endured for ever.
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
Remember the briefness of my lifespan! For what
futility You have created all men!
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon
Zion: for the
time to favour her,
yea, the set
time, is come.
You will rise up and have
compassion on
Zion, for it is
time to show her favor— the appointed
time has come.
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
until his
prediction came true and the word of the LORD proved him right.
