And the
cedar of the house within
was carved with knops and open flowers: all
was cedar; there
was no stone seen.
The
cedar paneling inside the temple
was carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything
was cedar; not a stone could be seen.
And the
oracle in the
forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which
was of
cedar.
The inner sanctuary
was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of
cedar.
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the
oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.
And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that
was by the
oracle he overlaid with gold.
So he overlaid with gold the whole interior of the temple, until everything was completely finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
And five cubits
was the one wing of the
cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the
cherub: from the
uttermost part of the one wing unto the
uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.
One wing of the first
cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing
was five cubits long as well. So the full wingspan
was ten cubits.
And the other
cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.
The second
cherub also measured ten cubits; both
cherubim had the same size and shape,
The height of the one
cherub was ten cubits, and so
was it of the other
cherub.
and the height of each
cherub was ten cubits.
In the fourth year
was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month
Zif:
The foundation of the house of the LORD was laid in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign, in the month of Ziv.
And in the
eleventh year, in the month
Bul, which is the eighth month,
was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So
was he seven years in building it.
In his
eleventh year and eighth month, the month of
Bul, the temple
was finished in every detail and according to every
specification. So he built the temple in seven years.
But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.
Solomon, however, took thirteen years to complete the construction of his entire palace.
He built also the house of the forest of
Lebanon; the length thereof
was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of
cedar pillars, with
cedar beams upon the pillars.
He built the House of the Forest of
Lebanon a hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high, with four rows of
cedar pillars supporting the
cedar beams.
And it
was covered with
cedar above upon the beams, that lay on forty five pillars, fifteen in a row.
The house
was roofed with
cedar above the beams that rested on the pillars—forty-five beams, fifteen per row.
And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks.
There were three rows of high windows facing one another in three tiers.
And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows: and light was against light in three ranks.
All the doorways had rectangular frames, with the openings facing one another in three tiers.
And he made a
porch of pillars; the length thereof
was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the
porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.
Solomon made his
colonnade fifty cubits long and thirty cubits wide, with a
portico in front of it and a
canopy with pillars in front of the
portico.
Then he made a
porch for the throne where he might judge, even the
porch of judgment: and it
was covered with
cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
In addition, he built a hall for the throne, the Hall of Justice, where he
was to judge. It
was paneled with
cedar from floor to
ceiling.
And his house where he dwelt had another court within the
porch, which
was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this
porch.
And the palace where Solomon would live, set further back, was of similar construction. He also made a palace like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had married.
And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.
The foundations were laid with large, costly stones, some ten cubits long and some eight cubits long.
And the great court round about
was with three rows of
hewed stones, and a row of
cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the
porch of the house.
He
was a widow’s son of the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father
was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he
was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
He
was the son of a widow from the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father
was a man of Tyre, a
craftsman in bronze. Huram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge for every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and carried out all his work.
And he made two chapiters of
molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one
chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other
chapiter was five cubits:
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars, each capital five cubits high.
And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the
belly which
was by the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other
chapiter.
On the capitals of both pillars, just above the rounded projection next to the network, were the two hundred pomegranates in rows
encircling each capital.
And upon the top of the pillars
was lily work: so
was the work of the pillars finished.
And the tops of the pillars were shaped like
lilies. So the work of the pillars
was completed.
And he made a
molten sea, ten cubits from the one
brim to the other: it
was round all about, and his height
was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It
was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from
rim to
rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference.
And under the
brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a
cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it
was cast.
Below the
rim, ornamental buds
encircled it, ten per
cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea.
It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
And it
was an hand breadth thick, and the
brim thereof
was wrought like the
brim of a cup, with flowers of
lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.
In addition, he made ten movable stands of bronze, each four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high.
And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges:
This was the design of the stands: They had side panels attached to uprights,
And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work.
and on the panels between the uprights were lions, oxen, and
cherubim. On the uprights
was a
pedestal above, and below the lions and oxen were
wreaths of
beveled work.
And the mouth of it within the
chapiter and above
was a
cubit: but the mouth thereof
was round after the work of the base, a
cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders,
foursquare, not round.
The opening to each stand inside the crown at the top
was one
cubit deep, with a round opening like the design of a
pedestal, a
cubit and a half wide. And around its opening were engravings, but the panels of the stands were square, not round.
And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel
was a
cubit and a half a
cubit.
There were four wheels under the panels, and the axles of the wheels were attached to the stand; each wheel
was a
cubit and a half in diameter.
And the work of the wheels
was like the work of a
chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all
molten.
The wheels were made like
chariot wheels; their axles, rims, spokes, and hubs were all of cast metal.
And in the top of the base
was there a round compass of half a
cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.
At the top of each stand
was a circular band half a
cubit high. The supports and panels were cast as a unit with the top of the stand.
Then made he ten lavers of brass: one
laver contained forty baths: and every
laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one
laver.
He also made ten bronze basins, each holding forty baths and measuring four cubits across, one basin for each of the ten stands.
And Solomon left all the vessels
unweighed, because they were exceeding many: neither
was the weight of the brass found out.
Solomon left all these articles
unweighed, because there were so many. The weight of the bronze could not be determined.
And Solomon made all the vessels that
pertained unto the house of the LORD: the altar of gold, and the table of gold,
whereupon the
shewbread was,
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of the LORD: the golden altar; the golden table on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.
So all the work that King Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD
was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD.
There
was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
There
was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of the land of Egypt.
And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it
was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou
didst well that it
was in thine heart.
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
And it
was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from
kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD, he got up before the altar of the LORD, where he had been
kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.
The LORD our God be with us, as he
was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor
forsake us:
May the LORD our God be with us, as He
was with our fathers. May He never leave us nor
forsake us.
The same day did the king
hallow the middle of the court that
was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that
was before the LORD
was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD
was too small to contain all these offerings.
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,
Now when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all that he had desired to do,
And
Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.
So
Hiram went out from Tyre to
inspect the towns that Solomon had given him, but he
was not pleased with them.
And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.
Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense with them before the LORD. So he completed the temple.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in great abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke to him all that
was on her mind.
And Solomon told her all her questions: there
was not any thing
hid from the king, which he told her not.
And Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for the king to explain.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel, and his cupbearers, and his
ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there
was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half
was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.
But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told to me. Your wisdom and prosperity have far exceeded the report I heard.
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of
Sheba gave to king Solomon.
Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again
was such an abundance of spices brought in as those the queen of
Sheba gave to King Solomon.
Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year
was six hundred
threescore and six talents of gold.
The weight of gold that came to Solomon each year was 666 talents,
The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were stays on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the stays.
The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it
was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There
was no silver, because it
was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
For when Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and he was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his father David had been.
And the LORD
was angry with Solomon, because his heart
was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
Now the LORD grew
angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.
For it came to pass, when David
was in
Edom, and
Joab the captain of the host
was gone up to
bury the slain, after he had
smitten every male in
Edom;
Earlier, when David
was in
Edom,
Joab the commander of the army had gone to
bury the dead and had struck down every male in
Edom.
And the sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes
weaned in Pharaoh’s house: and Genubath
was in Pharaoh’s household among the sons of Pharaoh.
And the sister of Tahpenes bore
Hadad a son named Genubath. Tahpenes herself
weaned him in Pharaoh’s palace, and Genubath lived there among the sons of Pharaoh.
And when
Hadad heard in Egypt that David
slept with his fathers, and that
Joab the captain of the host
was dead,
Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.
When
Hadad heard in Egypt that David had rested with his fathers and that
Joab, the commander of the army,
was dead, he said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”
And he
was an
adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mischief that
Hadad did: and he
abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.
Rezon
was Israel’s enemy throughout the days of Solomon, adding to the trouble caused by
Hadad. So Rezon ruled over
Aram with hostility toward Israel.
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name
was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his hand against the king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat
was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother
was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a servant of Solomon, but he rebelled against the king,
And this
was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the account of his rebellion against the king. Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
And the man
Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and Solomon seeing the young man that he
was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.
Now
Jeroboam was a mighty man of
valor. So when Solomon noticed that the young man
was industrious, he put him in charge of the whole labor force of the house of Joseph.
And it came to pass at that time when
Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet
Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; and he had
clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field:
During that time, the prophet
Ahijah the Shilonite met
Jeroboam on the road as he
was going out of Jerusalem. Now
Ahijah had
wrapped himself in a new
cloak, and the two of them were alone in the open field.
And
Ahijah caught the new garment that
was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces:
And
Ahijah took hold of the new
cloak he
was wearing,
tore it into twelve pieces,
Solomon sought therefore to kill
Jeroboam. And
Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto
Shishak king of Egypt, and
was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
Solomon therefore sought to kill
Jeroboam. But
Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to
Shishak king of Egypt, where he remained until the death of Solomon.
And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
Thus the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
And Solomon
slept with his fathers, and
was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested with his fathers and
was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who
was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he
was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and
Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he
was still in Egypt where he had fled from King Solomon and had been living ever since.
Wherefore the king
hearkened not unto the people; for the cause
was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by
Ahijah the Shilonite unto
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events
was from the LORD, to
fulfill the word He had spoken to
Jeroboam son of Nebat through
Ahijah the Shilonite.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Adoram, who
was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who
was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there
was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
And when
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the whole house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam son of Solomon.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that
was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high places he had set up.
And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto
Bethel: and
Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
Suddenly, as
Jeroboam was standing beside the altar to burn incense, there came a man of God from Judah to
Bethel by the word of the LORD.
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the altar in
Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who
was at the altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out his hand and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it back.
The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
And the altar was split apart, and the ashes poured out, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God
besought the LORD, and the king’s hand
was restored him again, and became as it
was before.
Then the king
responded to the man of God, “
Intercede with the LORD your God and pray that my hand may be restored.” So the man of God
interceded with the LORD, and the king’s hand
was restored to him as it
was before.
For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
For this is what I was commanded by the word of the LORD: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.’”
Now there dwelt an old prophet in
Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in
Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
Now a certain old prophet
was living in
Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the deeds that the man of God had done that day in
Bethel. They also told their father the words that the man had spoken to the king.
For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
For I have been told by the word of the LORD: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.’”
He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he
lied unto him.
Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,
And when he
was gone, a lion met him by the way, and
slew him: and his
carcase was cast in the way, and the
ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the
carcase.
As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body
was left lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it.
And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who
was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has
mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”
And this thing became sin unto the house of
Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.
And this
was the sin of the house of
Jeroboam that led to its
extermination and destruction from the face of the earth.
And
Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and
disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of
Jeroboam; and get thee to
Shiloh: behold, there is
Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.
And it
was so, when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of
Jeroboam; why feignest thou
thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy
tidings.
So when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet entering the door, he said, “Come in, wife of
Jeroboam! Why are you
disguised? For I have been sent to you with bad news.
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what
was right in My eyes.
And the days which
Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he
slept with his fathers, and
Nadab his son reigned in his
stead.
And the length of
Jeroboam’s reign
was twenty-two years, and he rested with his fathers, and his son
Nadab reigned in his place.
And
Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah.
Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name
was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Meanwhile,
Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned in Judah. He
was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name
was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would bear the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And
Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and
was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother’s name
was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Rehoboam rested with his fathers and
was buried with them in the City of David; his mother’s name
was Naamah the
Ammonite. And his son Abijam reigned in his place.
Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name
was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
And Abijam walked in all the sins that his father before him had committed, and his heart
was not as fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his
forefather had been.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
