Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to
battle, or shall I
forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.
So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, four hundred men, and asked them, “Should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to
battle, or shall I
forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and
prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they will be given into your hand.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and will go to the
battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel
disguised himself; and they went to the
battle.

Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into
battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into
battle.
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: therefore he said to his
chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the
battle, for I am badly wounded!”
And the
battle increased that day:
howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his
chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.

chariot facing the Arameans until evening. And at

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of

Ammonites, together with some of the Meunites, came to make war against
Jehoshaphat.
And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the
battle is not yours, but God’s.
And he said, “
Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem!
Listen, King
Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the
battle does not belong to you, but to God.
Ye shall not need to fight in this
battle: set
yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
You need not fight this
battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them
tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
But if thou
wilt go, do it, be strong for the
battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
Even if you go and fight
bravely in
battle, God will make you
stumble before the enemy, for God has power to help and power to overthrow.”
But the soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to
battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.
Meanwhile the troops that
Amaziah had dismissed from
battle raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
Uzziah had an army ready for
battle that went out to war by assigned divisions, as recorded by Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officers.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our
battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our
battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
Nevertheless
Josiah would not turn his face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and
hearkened not unto the words of
Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of
Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in
battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of
Megiddo.
Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred
baths of wine, and to an hundred
baths of oil, and salt without
prescribing how much.
up to a hundred talents of silver, a hundred cors of wheat, a hundred baths of wine, a hundred baths of olive oil, and salt without limit.
In famine he shall
redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
In famine He will
redeem you from death, and in
battle from the stroke of the sword.
Trouble and
anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the
battle.
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were
bathed in
cream and the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of war and battle?
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He paws in the valley and rejoices in his strength; he charges into battle.
At the blast of the horn, he snorts with
fervor. He catches the
scent of
battle from
afar— the shouts of captains and the cry of war.
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the
battle and never
repeat it!
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
For thou hast
girded me with strength unto the
battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
You have armed me with strength for battle; You have subdued my foes beneath me.
Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Who is this King of Glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
He redeems my soul in peace from the
battle waged against me, even though many
oppose me.
There
brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the
battle.
Selah.
There He
shattered the flaming arrows, the shield and sword and weapons of war.
Selah The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
The archers of Ephraim turned back on the day of battle.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
You have bent the edge of his sword and have not sustained him in battle.
Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of
holiness from the
womb of the morning: thou hast the
dew of thy youth.
Your people shall be willing on Your day of
battle.
Arrayed in holy
splendor, from the
womb of the
dawn, to You belongs the
dew of Your youth.
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You shield my head in the day of battle.
Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
Blessed be the LORD, my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory is of the LORD.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
I saw something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; neither is the bread to the wise, nor the wealth to the intelligent, nor the favor to the skillful. For time and chance happen to all.
His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set.
His eyes are like doves beside the streams of water, bathed in milk and mounted like jewels.
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in
Heshbon, by the gate of
Bath-rabbim: thy nose is as the tower of
Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
Your neck is like a tower made of ivory; your eyes are like the pools of
Heshbon by the gate of
Bath-rabbim; your nose is like the tower of
Lebanon, facing toward Damascus.
In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
In that day men will cast away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and gold— the idols they made to worship.
Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
Your men will fall by the sword, and your warriors in battle.
Yea, ten acres of
vineyard shall yield one
bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an
ephah.
For ten acres of
vineyard will yield but a
bath of wine, and a homer of seed only an
ephah of grain.”
Associate
yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries:
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
For every
battle of the
warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
For every
trampling boot of
battle and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.
The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a
tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the
battle.
Listen, a
tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude!
Listen, an
uproar among the kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is
mobilizing an army for war.
For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the
grievousness of war.
For they
flee from the sword— the sword that is drawn— from the bow that is bent, and from the stress of
battle.
Thou that art full of stirs, a
tumultuous city, a
joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in
battle.
O city of
commotion, O town of
revelry? Your slain did not die by the sword, nor were they killed in
battle.
Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in
battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.
I am not
angry. If only thorns and briers
confronted Me, I would march and
trample them, I would burn them to the ground.
And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and a strength to those who
repel the
onslaught at the gate.
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against
Ariel, even all that fight against her and her
munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
All the many nations going out to
battle against
Ariel— even all who war against her, laying siege and attacking her— will be like a dream, like a vision in the night,
It shall even be as when an
hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a
thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is
faint, and his soul hath
appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount
Zion.
as when a
hungry man dreams he is eating, then awakens still
hungry; as when a
thirsty man dreams he is drinking, then awakens
faint and
parched. So will it be for all the many nations who go to
battle against Mount
Zion.
And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in
battles of
shaking will he fight with it.
And with every stroke of the rod of punishment that the LORD brings down on them, the tambourines and lyres will sound as He
battles with weapons
brandished.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has said to me: “Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is not
terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do
battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the
ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Their rock will pass away for fear, and their princes will
panic at the sight of the
battle standard,” declares the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
For my sword shall be
bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon
Idumea, and upon the people of my
curse, to judgment.
When My sword has
drunk its fill in the heavens, then it will come down upon
Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction.
The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the
kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in
Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of
Idumea.
The sword of the LORD is
bathed in blood. It drips with fat— with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the
kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in
Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of
Edom.
Therefore he hath poured upon him the
fury of his anger, and the strength of
battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
So He poured out on them His
furious anger and the fierceness of
battle. It
enveloped them in flames, but they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I
girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God but Me. I will
equip you for
battle, though you have not known Me,
My
bowels, my
bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the
trump, the
alarm of war.
My
anguish, my
anguish! I
writhe in pain! Oh, the pain in my chest! My heart pounds within me; I cannot be silent. For I have heard the sound of the horn, the
alarm of
battle.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD’S.
Go up through her vineyards and
ravage them, but do not finish them off. Strip off her branches, for they do not belong to the LORD.
Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at
noon.
Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
‘Prepare for
battle against her; rise up, let us attack at
noon.
Woe to us, for the
daylight is
fading; the evening shadows grow long.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the
battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into
battle.
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be
bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in
battle.
Therefore, hand their children over to famine; pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless and widowed; let their husbands be slain by disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and
repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the
shouting at
noontide;
May that man be like the cities that the LORD overthrew without
compassion. May he hear an outcry in the morning and a
battle cry at
noon,
Order ye the
buckler and shield, and draw near to
battle.
“
Deploy your shields, small and large; advance for
battle!
How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war?
How can you say, ‘We are warriors, mighty men ready for battle’?
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an
alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the
Ammonites; and it shall be a
desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will sound the
battle cry against Rabbah of the
Ammonites. It will become a
heap of ruins, and its villages will be burned. Then Israel will drive out their dispossessors, says the LORD.
I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her! Rise up for
battle!”
A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
“The noise of battle is in the land— the noise of great destruction.
They shall hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one put in
array, like a man to the
battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
Thou art my
battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
“You are My war club, My weapon for
battle. With you I
shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.
Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
And lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and cast a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set
battering rams against it round about.
Then lay siege against it: Construct a siege wall, build a
ramp to it, set up camps against it, and place
battering rams around it on all sides.
They have
blown the
trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the
battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.
They have
blown the
trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to war, for My wrath is upon the whole multitude.
Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the
hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the
battle in the day of the LORD.
You did not go up to the gaps or restore the wall around the house of Israel so that it would stand in the battle on the Day of the LORD.
Then washed I thee with water;
yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I
anointed thee with oil.
Then I
bathed you with water,
rinsed off your blood, and
anointed you with oil.
Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast
horde will not help him in
battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.
At his right hand was the
divination for Jerusalem, to
appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with
shouting, to
appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.
In his right hand appears the
portent for Jerusalem, where he is to set up
battering rams, to call for the slaughter, to lift a
battle cry, to direct the
battering rams against the gates, to build a
ramp, and to erect a siege wall.
And
furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a
messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou
didst wash
thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst
thyself with ornaments,
Furthermore, you sisters sent messengers for men who came from
afar; and behold, when they arrived, you
bathed for them, painted your eyes, and adorned
yourself with
jewelry.
And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers.
He will direct the blows of his
battering rams against your walls and
tear down your towers with his axes.
And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every
oblation of all, of every sort of your oblations, shall be the priest’s: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your
dough, that he may cause the blessing to rest in thine house.
The best of all the firstfruits and of every contribution from all your offerings will belong to the priests. You are to give your first
batch of
dough to the priest, so that a blessing may rest upon your homes.
Ye shall have just balances, and a just
ephah, and a just
bath.
You must use
honest scales, a just
ephah, and a just
bath.
The
ephah and the
bath shall be of one measure, that the
bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the
ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer.
The
ephah and the
bath shall be the same quantity so that the
bath will contain a tenth of a homer, and the
ephah a tenth of a homer; the homer will be the standard measure for both.
Concerning the
ordinance of oil, the
bath of oil, ye shall offer the tenth part of a
bath out of the cor, which is an homer of ten
baths; for ten
baths are an homer:
The prescribed portion of oil, measured by the bath, is a tenth of a bath from each cor (a cor consists of ten baths or one homer, since ten baths are equivalent to a homer).
But his sons shall be
stirred up, and shall
assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be
stirred up, even to his fortress.
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
In his place one will arise who will send out a tax
collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be destroyed, though not in anger or in
battle.
And he shall
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be
stirred up to
battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall
forecast devices against him.
And with a large army he will
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South, who will
mobilize a very large and powerful army but will not
withstand the plots devised against him.
And at the time of the end shall the king of the south
push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a
whirlwind, with
chariots, and with
horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
At the time of the end, the king of the South will
engage him in
battle, but the king of the North will storm out against him with
chariots,
horsemen, and many ships,
invading many countries and
sweeping through them like a flood.
But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by
battle, by horses, nor by
horsemen.
Yet I will have
compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them—not by bow or sword or war, not by horses and cavalry, but by the LORD their God.”
And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the
creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the
battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
On that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the creatures that
crawl on the ground. And I will
abolish bow and sword and weapons of war in the land, and will make them lie down in safety.
Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, the
trumpet in
Ramah; raise the
battle cry in Beth-
aven: Lead on, O Benjamin!
O Israel, thou hast
sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the
battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
Since the days of Gibeah you have
sinned, O Israel, and there you have remained. Did not the
battle in Gibeah overtake the sons of iniquity?
Therefore shall a
tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be
spoiled, as Shalman
spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of
battle: the mother was
dashed in pieces upon her children.
the
roar of
battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be
demolished as Shalman
devastated Beth-arbel in the day of
battle, when mothers were
dashed to pieces along with their children.
Like the noise of
chariots on the tops of mountains shall they
leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the
stubble, as a strong people set in
battle array.
So I will
kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah to
consume its citadels amid war
cries on the day of
battle and a violent wind on the day of
tempest.
The vision of
Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in
battle.
This is the vision of
Obadiah: This is what the Lord GOD says about
Edom— We have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent among the nations to say, “Rise up, and let us go to
battle against her!”—
Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the
robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men
averse from war.
But of late My people have risen up like an enemy: You strip off the splendid
robe from
unsuspecting passersby like men returning from
battle.
a day of horn blast and battle cry against the fortified cities, and against the high corner towers.
Since those days were, when one came to an
heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
from that time, when one came expecting a
heap of twenty ephahs of grain, there were but ten. When one came to the winepress to draw out fifty
baths, there were but twenty.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the
battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem, and the bow of war will be broken. Then He will
proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion will extend from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.
Mine anger was
kindled against the
shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the
battle.
“My anger burns against the
shepherds, and I will
punish the leaders. For the LORD of Hosts attends to His flock, the house of Judah; He will make them like His royal
steed in
battle.
Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the
nail, out of him the
battle bow, out of him every
oppressor together.
The cornerstone will come from Judah, the tent
peg from him, as well as the
battle bow and every ruler together.
