Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the
deep. And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the surface of the waters.
And the LORD God caused a
deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he
slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a
deep sleep, and while he
slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.
In the six
hundredth year of
Noah’s life, in the second month, the
seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great
deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
In the six
hundredth year of
Noah’s life, on the
seventeenth day of the second month, all the fountains of the great
deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
The springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained.
And when the sun was going down, a
deep sleep fell upon
Abram; and, lo, an
horror of great darkness fell upon him.
As the sun was setting,
Abram fell into a
deep sleep, and suddenly great terror and darkness
overwhelmed him.
Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the
Almighty, who shall
bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the
deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the
womb:
by the God of your father who helps you, and by the
Almighty who blesses you, with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the depths below, with blessings of the breasts and
womb.
And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and when the hair in the plague is turned white, and the plague in sight be
deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of
leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and
pronounce him unclean.
The priest is to examine the
infection on his skin, and if the hair in the
infection has turned white and the
sore appears to be
deeper than the skin, it is a skin disease. After the priest examines him, he must
pronounce him unclean.
If the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and in sight be not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague seven days:
If, however, the spot on his skin is white and does not appear to be
deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest shall
isolate the
infected person for seven days.
Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the hair in the bright spot be turned white, and it be in sight
deeper than the skin; it is a
leprosy broken out of the burning: wherefore the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is the plague of
leprosy.
the priest must examine it. If the hair in the spot has turned white and the spot appears to be
deeper than the skin, it is a disease that has broken out in the burn. The priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased
infection.
Then the priest shall see the plague: and, behold, if it be in sight
deeper than the skin; and there be in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is a dry
scall, even a
leprosy upon the head or
beard.
the priest shall examine the
infection, and if it appears to be
deeper than the skin and the hair in it is yellow and thin, the priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is a
scaly outbreak, an
infectious disease of the head or
chin.
And if the priest look on the plague of the
scall, and, behold, it be not in sight
deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague of the
scall seven days:
But if the priest examines the
scaly infection and it does not appear to be
deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, the priest shall
isolate the
infected person for seven days.
And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the plague: and, behold, if the
scall spread not, and there be in it no yellow hair, and the
scall be not in sight
deeper than the skin;
On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine the
infection, and if the
scaly outbreak has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it, and it does not appear to be
deeper than the skin,
And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the
scall: and, behold, if the
scall be not spread in the skin, nor be in sight
deeper than the skin; then the priest shall
pronounce him clean: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.
On the seventh day the priest shall examine the
scaly outbreak, and if it has not spread on the skin and does not appear to be
deeper than the skin, the priest is to
pronounce him clean. He must wash his clothes, and he will be clean.
And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
You came near and stood at the base of the mountain, a mountain
blazing with fire to the heavens, with black clouds and
deep darkness.
These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice to your whole assembly out of the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness on the mountain; He added nothing more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the

deep waters that lie beneath,

deep distress.
So David took the
spear and the
cruse of water from Saul’s
bolster; and they
gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither
awaked: for they were all
asleep; because a
deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
So David took the
spear and water
jug by Saul’s head, and they departed. No one saw them or knew about it, nor did
anyone wake up; they all remained
asleep, because a
deep sleep from the LORD had fallen on them.
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am
sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” “I am deeply distressed,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his

mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”

And the mouth of it within the
chapiter and above was a
cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a
cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders,
foursquare, not round.
The opening to each stand inside the crown at the top was one
cubit deep, with a round opening like the design of a
pedestal, a
cubit and a half wide. And around its opening were engravings, but the panels of the stands were square, not round.
And it came to pass at
noon, that
Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry
aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or
peradventure he sleepeth, and must be
awaked.
At
noon Elijah began to
taunt them, saying, “
Shout louder, for he is a god! Perhaps he is
deep in thought, or occupied, or on a journey. Perhaps he is sleeping and must be
awakened!”
And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is
vexed within her: and the LORD hath
hid it from me, and hath not told me.
When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she
clung to his feet. Gehazi came over to
push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone, for her soul is in
deep distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am
deeply distressed. Please, let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”

And thou
didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the
deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
You divided the sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You
hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into
raging waters.
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
In disquieting visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
Am I a sea, or a
whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
Am I the sea, or the
monster of the
deep, that You must keep me under guard?
A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
to a land of utter darkness, of deep shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”
Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the
Almighty unto perfection?
Can you
fathom the
deep things of God or discover the limits of the
Almighty?
It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do?
deeper than
hell; what canst thou know?
They are higher than the heavens—what can you do? They are
deeper than
Sheol—what can you know?
He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into light.
My face is foul with
weeping, and my eyelids is the shadow of death;
My face is red with
weeping, and
deep shadows ring my eyes;
For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
For to them, deep darkness is their morning; surely they are friends with the terrors of darkness!
He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
Man puts an end to the darkness; he probes the
farthest recesses for ore in
deepest darkness.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
In a dream, in a vision in the night, when
deep sleep falls upon men as they
slumber on their beds,
There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity can hide.
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
Have you journeyed to the vents of the sea or walked in the trenches of the deep?
The waters are
hid as with a stone, and the face of the
deep is
frozen.
when the waters become hard as stone and the surface of the
deep is
frozen?
He maketh the
deep to
boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of
ointment.
He maketh a path to
shine after him; one would think the
deep to be
hoary.
He leaves a
glistening wake behind him; one would think the
deep had white hair!
My soul is also
sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?
He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments are like the deepest sea. O LORD, You preserve man and beast.
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me
sore.
For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me.
Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Deep calls to
deep in the
roar of Your waterfalls; all Your breakers and waves have rolled over me.
Though thou hast
sore broken us in the place of
dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
But You have
crushed us in the
lair of jackals; You have covered us with
deepest darkness.
They
devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are
mysterious.
I sink in
deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into
deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
I have sunk into the
miry depths, where there is no footing; I have drifted into
deep waters, where the flood engulfs me.
Deliver me out of the
mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that
hate me, and out of the
deep waters.
Rescue me from the
mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the
deep waters.
Let not the
waterflood overflow me, neither let the
deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
Do not let the floods
engulf me or the depths
swallow me up; let not the Pit close its mouth over me.
Thou preparedst room before it, and
didst cause it to take
deep root, and it filled the land.
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths.
O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
How great are Your works, O LORD, how deep are Your thoughts!
In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.
In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him.
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
They saw the works of the LORD, and His wonders in the deep.

deep places.
The LORD does all that pleases Him in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and in all their depths.
Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the
miry pits, never to rise again.
Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;
Reach down from on high; set me free and
rescue me from the
deep waters, from the
grasp of foreigners,
Praise the LORD from the earth, ye
dragons, and all
deeps:
Praise the LORD from the earth, all great sea creatures and ocean depths,
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
I was there when He established the heavens, when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,
When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
when He established the clouds above, when the fountains of the
deep gushed forth,
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a
fool.
The words of a man’s mouth are as
deep waters, and the
wellspring of wisdom as a flowing
brook.
The words of a man’s mouth are
deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a
bubbling brook.
Slothfulness casteth into a
deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Laziness brings on
deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
The intentions of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
The mouth of strange women is a
deep pit: he that is
abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
The mouth of an
adulteress is a
deep pit; he who is under the wrath of the LORD will fall into it.
For a
whore is a
deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings cannot be searched.
That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?
What exists is out of reach and very
deep. Who can
fathom it?
For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has shut your eyes, O prophets; He has covered your heads, O seers.
Woe unto them that seek
deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who
seeth us? and who knoweth us?
Woe to those who
dig deep to hide their plans from the LORD. In darkness they do their works and say, “Who sees us, and who will know?”
And in that day shall the
deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.
On that day the
deaf will hear the words of the
scroll, and out of the
deep darkness the eyes of the blind will see.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it
deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is
deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
Return to the One against whom you have so
blatantly rebelled, O children of Israel.
Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a
deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a
stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.
You will no longer see the
insolent, a people whose speech is unintelligible, who
stammer in a language you cannot understand.
That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
who says to the depths of the sea, ‘Be dry, and I will dry up your currents,’
Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great
deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the
ransomed to pass over?
Was it not You who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea for the redeemed to cross over?
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations:
spare not,
lengthen thy cords, and
strengthen thy stakes;
“
Enlarge the site of your tent, stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not hold back.
Lengthen your ropes and drive your stakes in
deep.
That led them through the
deep, as an horse in the wilderness, that they should not
stumble?
who led them through the depths like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not
stumble?
That ye may
suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.
so that you may
nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you may drink
deeply and delight
yourselves in her glorious abundance.
Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet
stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet
stumble on the
dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He turns it into
deep gloom and thick darkness.
Flee ye, turn back, dwell
deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the
calamity of
Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.
Turn and run! Lie low, O dwellers of Dedan, for I will bring
disaster on
Esau at the time I
punish him.
Flee, get you far off, dwell
deep, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the LORD; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you.
Run! Escape quickly! Lie low, O residents of Hazor,” declares the LORD, “for
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has drawn up a plan against you; he has devised a
strategy against you.
What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I
liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of
Zion? for thy breach is great like the sea: who can
heal thee?
What can I say for you? To what can I compare you, O Daughter of Jerusalem? To what can I
liken you, that I may
console you, O Virgin Daughter of
Zion? For your wound is as
deep as the sea. Who can ever
heal you?
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sister’s cup
deep and large: thou shalt be
laughed to
scorn and had in
derision; it containeth much.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You will drink your sister’s cup, a cup
deep and wide. It will bring
scorn and
derision, for it holds so much.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a
desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the
deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When I make you a
desolate city like other deserted cities, and when I raise up the
deep against you so that the mighty waters cover you,
The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
The waters made it grow; the deep springs made it tall, directing their streams all around its base and sending their channels to all the trees of the field.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the
deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused
Lebanon to
mourn for him, and all the trees of the field
fainted for him.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘On the day it was brought down to
Sheol, I caused
mourning. I covered the
deep because of it; I held back its rivers; its abundant waters were restrained. I made
Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field
fainted because of it.
Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD.
Then I will let her waters settle and will make her rivers flow like oil,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must
tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have
drunk of the
deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet?
Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also
trample the rest of the pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink the clear waters? Must you also
muddy the rest with your feet?
Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the stairs thereof, and measured the
threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad; and the other
threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad.
Then he came to the gate facing east and
climbed its steps. He measured the
threshold of the gate to be one rod
deep.
And every little chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers were five cubits; and the
threshold of the gate by the
porch of the gate within was one reed.
Each gate chamber was one rod long and one rod wide, and there were five cubits between the gate chambers. The inner
threshold of the gate by the
portico facing inward was one rod
deep.
Then measured he the
porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the
porch of the gate was inward.
it was eight cubits
deep, and its jambs were two cubits thick. And the
portico of the
gateway faced the temple.
And the arches round about were five and twenty cubits long, and five cubits broad.
(The
porticoes around the inner court were twenty-five cubits long and five cubits
deep.)
The length of the
porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
The
portico was twenty cubits wide and twelve cubits
deep, and ten steps led up to it. There were columns by the side pillars, one on each side.
