In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Now the
earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the surface of the waters.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the
earth bring forth grass, the
herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the
earth: and it was so.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit with seed according to its kind.” And it was so.
And the
earth brought forth grass, and
herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
And let them be for lights in the
firmament of the heaven to give light upon the
earth: and it was so.
And let them serve as lights in the
expanse of the sky to
shine upon the
earth.” And it was so.
And God set them in the
firmament of the heaven to give light upon the
earth,
God set these lights in the
expanse of the sky to
shine upon the
earth,
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the
earth in the open
firmament of heaven.
And God said, “Let the waters
teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the
earth in the open
expanse of the sky.”
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
And God said, Let the
earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and
creeping thing, and beast of the
earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God said, “Let the
earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds:
livestock, land crawlers, and beasts of the
earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
God made the beasts of the
earth according to their kinds, the
livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the
earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the
earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, and over all the
earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the
earth, and
subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the
earth.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the
earth and
subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the
earth.”
And God said, Behold, I have given you every
herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the
earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food.
And to every beast of the
earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the
earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green
herb for meat: and it was so.
And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Thus the heavens and the
earth were completed in all their vast
array.
These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made them.
And every plant of the field before it was in the
earth, and every
herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the
earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
Now no
shrub of the field had yet appeared on the
earth, nor had any plant of the field
sprouted; for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the
earth, and there was no man to
cultivate the ground.
But there went up a
mist from the
earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
And now art thou
cursed from the
earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
Now you are
cursed and banished from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a
fugitive and a
vagabond shalt thou be in the
earth.
When you till the ground, it will no longer yield its produce to you. You will be a
fugitive and a
wanderer on the
earth.”
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the
earth; and from thy face shall I be
hid; and I shall be a
fugitive and a
vagabond in the
earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall
slay me.
Behold, this day You have driven me from the face of the
earth, and from Your face I will be hidden; I will be a
fugitive and a
wanderer on the
earth, and
whoever finds me will kill me.”
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,
There were giants in the
earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of
renown.
The
Nephilim were on the
earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of
renown.
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great upon the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was altogether evil all the time.
And it
repented the LORD that he had made man on the
earth, and it
grieved him at his heart.
And the LORD
regretted that He had made man on the
earth, and He was
grieved in His heart.
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the
earth; both man, and beast, and the
creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
So the LORD said, “I will
blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the
earth—every man and beast and
crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am
grieved that I have made them.”
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence.
And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
And God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt; for all living creatures on the earth had corrupted their ways.
And God said unto
Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the
earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the
earth.
Then God said to
Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the
earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will destroy both them and the
earth.
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every
creeping thing of the
earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
Two of every kind of bird and animal and
crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.
Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
and seven pairs of every kind of bird of the air, male and female, to preserve their offspring on the face of all the earth.
For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
For seven days from now I will send rain on the
earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the
earth every living thing I have made.”
And
Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the
earth.
Now
Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the
earth.
Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
The clean and unclean animals, the birds, and everything that crawls along the ground
And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
And after seven days the floodwaters came upon the earth.
And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
And the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
they and every kind of wild animal,
livestock,
crawling creature, bird, and winged creature.
And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and the waters rose and lifted the ark high above the earth.
And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
So the waters continued to
surge and rise greatly on the
earth, and the ark
floated on the surface of the waters.
And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
Finally, the waters completely
inundated the
earth, so that all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered.
And all flesh died that moved upon the
earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth, and every man:
And every living thing that moved upon the
earth perished—birds,
livestock, animals, every creature that swarms upon the
earth, and all mankind.
And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the
creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the
earth: and
Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
And every living thing on the face of the
earth was destroyed—man and
livestock,
crawling creatures and birds of the air; they were
blotted out from the
earth, and only
Noah and those with him in the ark remained.
And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
And the waters prevailed upon the earth for 150 days.
And God remembered
Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the
earth, and the waters asswaged;
But God remembered
Noah and all the animals and
livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the
earth, and the waters began to
subside.
And the waters returned from off the
earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were
abated.
The waters
receded steadily from the
earth, and after 150 days the waters had gone down.
And he sent forth a
raven, which went forth to and
fro, until the waters were dried up from off the
earth.
and sent out a
raven. It kept flying back and forth until the waters had dried up from the
earth.
But the
dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole
earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
But the
dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because the waters were still covering the surface of all the
earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark.
And the
dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so
Noah knew that the waters were
abated from off the
earth.
And behold, the
dove returned to him in the evening with a freshly
plucked olive leaf in her
beak. So
Noah knew that the waters had
receded from the
earth.
And it came to pass in the six
hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the
earth: and
Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
In
Noah’s six hundred and first year, on the first day of the first month, the waters had dried up from the
earth. So
Noah removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.
And in the second month, on the seven and
twentieth day of the month, was the
earth dried.
By the twenty-seventh day of the second month, the earth was fully dry.
Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth; that they may breed abundantly in the
earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the
earth.
Bring out all the living creatures that are with you—birds,
livestock, and everything that crawls upon the ground—so that they can spread out over the
earth and be fruitful and multiply upon it.”
Every beast, every
creeping thing, and every fowl, and
whatsoever creepeth upon the
earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
Every living creature, every
creeping thing, and every bird—everything that moves upon the
earth—came out of the ark, kind by kind.
While the
earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
As long as the
earth endures,
seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease.”
And God blessed
Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the
earth.
And God blessed
Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the
earth.
And the fear of you and the
dread of you shall be upon every beast of the
earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the
earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
The fear and
dread of you will fall on every living creature on the
earth, every bird of the air, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are delivered into your hand.
And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the earth and multiply upon it.”
And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the
livestock, and every beast of the
earth—every living thing that came out of the ark.
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a
token of a covenant between me and the
earth.
I have set My
rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the
earth.
And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Whenever I form clouds over the
earth and the
rainbow appears in the clouds,
And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the
earth.
And whenever the
rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of every kind that is on the
earth.”
And God said unto
Noah, This is the
token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the
earth.
So God said to
Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between Me and every creature on the
earth.”
These are the three sons of
Noah: and of them was the whole
earth overspread.
These three were the sons of
Noah, and from them the whole
earth was
populated.
Cush was the father of
Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one on the
earth.
And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.
Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.
These are the families of the sons of
Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the
earth after the flood.
All these are the clans of
Noah’s sons, according to their generations and nations. From these the nations of the
earth spread out after the flood.
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Now the whole world had one language and a common form of speech.
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
“Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.”
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
Therefore is the name of it called
Babel; because the LORD did there
confound the language of all the
earth: and from thence did the LORD
scatter them abroad upon the face of all the
earth.
That is why it is called
Babel, for there the LORD confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the
earth.
And I will
bless them that
bless thee, and
curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the
earth be blessed.
I will
bless those who
bless you and
curse those who
curse you; and all the families of the
earth will be blessed through you.”
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.
And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be
Abram of the most high God,
possessor of heaven and
earth:
and he blessed
Abram and said: “Blessed be
Abram by God Most High,
Creator of heaven and
earth,
And
Abram said to the king of
Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the
possessor of heaven and
earth,
But
Abram replied to the king of
Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD God Most High,
Creator of heaven and
earth,
Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to
slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the
earth do right?
Far be it from You to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and
tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up
early, and go on your ways. And they said,
Nay; but we will
abide in the street all night.
and said, “My lords, please turn aside into the house of your servant; wash your feet and
spend the night. Then you can rise
early and go on your way.” “No,” they answered, “we will
spend the night in the square.”
The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
And by the time the sun had risen over the land, Lot had reached Zoar.
And Abraham
gat up
early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
Early the next morning, Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.
And the
firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the
earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the
earth:
One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man in the land to sleep with us, as is the custom over all the earth.
Therefore
Abimelech rose
early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their
ears: and the men were
sore afraid.
Early the next morning
Abimelech got up and summoned all his servants; and when he described to them all that had happened, the men were
terrified.
And Abraham rose up
early in the morning, and took bread, and a
bottle of water, and gave it unto
Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and
wandered in the wilderness of Beer-
sheba.
Early in the morning, Abraham got up, took bread and a skin of water, put them on
Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her away with the boy. She left and
wandered in the Wilderness of
Beersheba.
And Abraham rose up
early in the morning, and
saddled his
ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and
clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
So Abraham got up
early the next morning,
saddled his
donkey, and took along two of his servants and his son Isaac. He split the wood for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had designated.
And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
And through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
And I will make thee
swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the
earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the
Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
and I will have you
swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of
earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the
Canaanites among whom I am dwelling,
And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden
earring of half a
shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
And after the camels had finished drinking, he took out a gold ring weighing a beka, and two gold bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels.
And it came to pass, when he saw the
earring and bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of
Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
As soon as he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s wrists, and heard
Rebekah’s words, “The man said this to me,” he went and found the man standing by the camels near the spring.
And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of
Bethuel,
Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the
earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
Then I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She replied, ‘The daughter of
Bethuel son of
Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.’ So I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrists.
And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed down to the ground before the LORD.
And Isaac went out to
meditate in the field at the
eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
Early in the evening, Isaac went out to the field to
meditate, and looking up, he saw the camels approaching.
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed,
For all the wells which his father’s servants had
digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with
earth.
So the Philistines took
dirt and stopped up all the wells that his father’s servants had
dug in the days of his father Abraham.
And they rose up
betimes in the morning, and
sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
And they got up
early the next morning and
swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they left him in peace.
Therefore God give thee of the
dew of heaven, and the fatness of the
earth, and
plenty of corn and wine:
May God give to you the
dew of heaven and the richness of the
earth— an abundance of grain and new wine.
And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the
earth, and of the
dew of heaven from above;
His father Isaac answered him: “Behold, your dwelling place shall be away from the richness of the land, away from the
dew of heaven above.
And he dreamed, and behold a
ladder set up on the
earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
And Jacob had a dream about a
ladder that rested on the
earth with its top reaching up to heaven, and God’s angels were going up and down the
ladder.
And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.
And Jacob rose up
early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his
pillows, and set it up for a
pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
Early the next morning, Jacob took the stone that he had placed under his head, and he set it up as a
pillar. He poured oil on top of it,
