And thine
eye shall not
pity; but life shall go for life,
eye for
eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
You must show no
pity: life for life,
eye for
eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, and foot for foot.
And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.
and they shall declare, “Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it.
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
So you shall
purge from among you the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is right in the
eyes of the LORD.
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his
eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds some
indecency in her, he may write her a
certificate of
divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine
eye shall not
pity her.
you are to cut off her hand. You must show her no
pity.
Thine ox shall be slain before thine
eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine
ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to
rescue them.
Your ox will be slaughtered before your
eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your
donkey will be taken away and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will save you.
Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand.
Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, while your
eyes grow
weary looking for them day after day, with no power in your hand.
So that thou shalt be
mad for the sight of thine
eyes which thou shalt see.
You will be driven
mad by the sights you see.
So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his
eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his
bosom, and toward the
remnant of his children which he shall leave:
The most gentle and refined man among you will
begrudge his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children who have survived,
The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not
adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her
eye shall be evil toward the husband of her
bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
The most gentle and refined woman among you, so gentle and refined she would not
venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground, will
begrudge the husband she embraces and her son and daughter
And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a
trembling heart, and failing of
eyes, and sorrow of mind:
Among those nations you will find no
repose, not even a resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a
trembling heart, failing
eyes, and a
despairing soul.
In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart
wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine
eyes which thou shalt see.
In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’—because of the
dread in your hearts of the
terrifying sights you will see.
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
Moses summoned all Israel and proclaimed to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land.
The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
You saw with your own
eyes the great trials, and those
miraculous signs and wonders.
Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.
He found him in a desert land, and in the waste
howling wilderness; he led him about, he
instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his
eye.
He found him in a desert land, in a barren,
howling wilderness; He surrounded him, He
instructed him, He guarded him as the apple of His
eye.
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine
eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
And the LORD said to him, “This is the land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your own
eyes, but you will not cross into it.”
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his
eye was not
dim, nor his natural force
abated.
Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his
eyes were not weak, and his
vitality had not diminished.
And it came to pass, when Joshua was by
Jericho, that he lifted up his
eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our
adversaries?
Now when Joshua was near
Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your
eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your
eyes, until you perish from this good land that the LORD your God has given you.
And when they
cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your
eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
So your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and
engulfed them. Your very
eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the
uncircumcised Philistines? And
Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
But his father and mother replied, “Can’t you find a young woman among your relatives or among any of our people? Must you go to the
uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But
Samson told his father, “Get her for me, for she is pleasing to my
eyes.”
And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased
Samson well.
Then
Samson continued on his way down and spoke to the woman, because she was pleasing to his
eyes.
But the Philistines took him, and put out his
eyes, and brought him down to
Gaza, and bound him with
fetters of brass; and he did
grind in the prison house.
Then the Philistines seized him,
gouged out his
eyes, and brought him down to
Gaza, where he was bound with bronze
shackles and forced to
grind grain in the prison.
And
Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and
strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two
eyes.
Then
Samson called out to the LORD: “O Lord GOD, please remember me.
Strengthen me, O God, just once more, so that with one
vengeful blow I may pay back the Philistines for my two
eyes.”
In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his own
eyes.
And when he had lifted up his
eyes, he saw a
wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said,
Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?
When he looked up and saw the traveler in the city square, the old man asked, “Where are you going, and where have you come from?”
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his own
eyes.
Let thine
eyes be on the field that they do
reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art
athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
Let your
eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the young men not to touch you. And when you are
thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.”
Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
At this, she fell on her face, bowing low to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you should take notice of me, even though I am a foreigner?”
Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine
handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
“My lord,” she said, “may I continue to find favor in your
eyes, for you have comforted and spoken kindly to your
maidservant, though I am not like one of your servant girls.”
And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to
consume thine
eyes, and to
grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
And every one of you that I do not cut off from My altar, your
eyes will fail and your heart will
grieve. All your descendants will die by the sword of men.
And it came to pass at that time, when
Eli was laid down in his place, and his
eyes began to wax
dim, that he could not see;
And at that time
Eli, whose
eyesight had grown so
dim that he could not see, was lying in his room.
And Samuel told him every
whit, and
hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.
So Samuel told him everything and did not hide a thing from him. “He is the LORD,” replied
Eli. “Let Him do what is good in His
eyes.”
Now
Eli was
ninety and eight years old; and his
eyes were
dim, that he could not see.
Now
Eli was
ninety-eight years old, and his
gaze was fixed because he could not see.
And they of Beth-shemesh were
reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their
eyes, and saw the ark, and
rejoiced to see it.
Now the people of Beth-shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley, and when they looked up and saw the ark, they were overjoyed at the sight.
And Nahash the
Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right
eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.
But Nahash the
Ammonite replied, “I will make a treaty with you on one condition, that I may put out
everyone’s right
eye and bring reproach upon all Israel.”
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his
anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose
ass have I taken? or whom have I
defrauded? whom have I
oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any
bribe to blind mine
eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
Here I am. Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His
anointed: Whose ox or
donkey have I taken? Whom have I
cheated or
oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a
bribe and closed my
eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”
Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
Now, therefore, stand and see this great thing that the LORD will do before your eyes.
But
Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and
dipped it in an
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his
eyes were
enlightened.
Jonathan, however, had not heard that his father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand,
dipped it into the
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his
eyes brightened.
Then said
Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine
eyes have been
enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
“My father has brought trouble to the land,”
Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my
eyes have
brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
And Samuel said, When thou
wast little in thine own sight,
wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD
anointed thee king over Israel?
And Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your own
eyes, have you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD
anointed you king over Israel
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was
ruddy, and
withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this is he.
So
Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was
ruddy, with beautiful
eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and
anoint him, for he is the one.”
And Saul
eyed David from that day and forward.
And from that day forward Saul kept a
jealous eye on David.
And David
sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine
eyes; and he saith, Let not
Jonathan know this, lest he be
grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
But David again
vowed, “Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your
eyes, and he has said, ‘
Jonathan must not know of this, or he will be
grieved.’ As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”
And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king’s table.
saying, ‘Please let me go, because our clan is holding a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has told me to be there. So now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go and see my brothers.’ That is why he did not come to the king’s table.”
Behold, this day thine
eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some
bade me kill thee: but mine
eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S
anointed.
Behold, this day you have seen with your own
eyes that the LORD delivered you into my hand in the cave. I was told to kill you, but I
spared you and said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my lord, since he is the LORD’s
anointed.’
Ask thy young men, and they will
shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine
eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee,
whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.
Ask your young men, and they will tell you. So let my young men find favor with you, for we have come on the day of a feast. Please give whatever you can afford to your servants and to your son David.’”
Then said Saul, I have
sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee
harm, because my soul was precious in thine
eyes this day: behold, I have played the
fool, and have
erred exceedingly.
Then Saul replied, “I have
sinned. Come back, David my son. I will never
harm you again, because
today you considered my life precious. I have played the
fool and have committed a grave error!”
And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine
eyes, so let my life be much set by in the
eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all
tribulation.
As surely as I valued your life
today, so may the LORD value my life and
rescue me from all trouble.”
And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be assigned a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. For why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to day in the
eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do.”
And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O Lord GOD, You have also spoken about the future of the house of Your servant. Is this Your custom with man, O Lord GOD?
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up
adversity against you from your own house. Before your very
eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad
daylight.
But
Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his
eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.
Meanwhile,
Absalom had fled. When the young man standing watch looked up, he saw many people coming down the road west of him, along the side of the hill. And the
watchman went and reported to the king, “I see men coming from the direction of Horonaim, along the side of the hill.”
And the king said unto
Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the
eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and
shew me both it, and his
habitation:
Then the king said to
Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the
eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and let me see both it and His dwelling place again.
Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that
pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I
humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.
So the king said to Ziba, “All that belongs to Mephibosheth is now yours!” “I
humbly bow before you,” said Ziba. “May I find favor in your
eyes, my lord the king!”
And David sat between the two gates: and the
watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his
eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
Now David was sitting between the two gates when the
watchman went up to the roof of the
gateway by the wall, looked out, and saw a man running alone.
And he hath
slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine
eyes.
and he has
slandered your servant to my lord the king. Yet my lord the king is like the angel of God, so do what is good in your
eyes.
Therefore the LORD hath
recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his
eye sight.
So the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His sight.
And the
afflicted people thou
wilt save: but thine
eyes are upon the
haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
You save an
afflicted people, but Your
eyes are on the
haughty to bring them down.
And
Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many
soever they be, an
hundredfold, and that the
eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why
doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
But
Joab replied to the king, “May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the
eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?”
And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And as for you, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
saying, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel!
Today He has provided one to sit on my throne, and my
eyes have seen it.’”
And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite of Bahurim, which
cursed me with a
grievous curse in the day when I went to
Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I
sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Keep an
eye on Shimei the son of
Gera, the
Benjamite from Bahurim who is with you. He called down bitter curses against me on the day I went to
Mahanaim, but when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I
swore to him by the LORD: ‘I will never put you to the sword.’
That thine
eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
May You
forgive Your people who have
sinned against You and all the transgressions they have committed against You, and may You grant them
compassion in the
eyes of their captors to show them mercy.
That thine
eyes may be open unto the
supplication of thy servant, and unto the
supplication of thy people Israel, to
hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.
May Your
eyes be open to the pleas of Your servant and of Your people Israel, and may You
listen to them whenever they call to You.
And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy
supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have
hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine
eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and petition before Me. I have consecrated this temple you have built by putting My Name there
forever; My
eyes and My heart will be there for all time.
Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine
eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.
But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told to me. Your wisdom and prosperity have far exceeded the report I heard.
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine
eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My
eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as Solomon’s father David did.
And
Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to
Shiloh, and came to the house of
Ahijah. But
Ahijah could not see; for his
eyes were set by reason of his age.
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My
eyes.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And
Asa did that which was right in the
eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.
And
Asa did what was right in the
eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done.
But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that were before him.
But Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD and acted more wickedly than all who were before him.
Yet I will send my servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine
eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will send my servants to search your palace and the houses of your servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and
disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
and the prophet went and waited on the road for the king,
disguising himself with a
bandage over his
eyes.
And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel
discerned him that he was of the prophets.
Then the prophet quickly removed the
bandage from his
eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.
And he walked in all the ways of
Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the
eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
And
Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of his father
Asa; he did not turn away from them, but did what was right in the
eyes of the LORD. The high places, however, were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then
Elisha got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth,
eye to
eye, and hand to hand. As he stretched himself out over him, the boy’s body became warm.
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and
fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child
sneezed seven times, and the child opened his
eyes.
Elisha turned away and
paced back and forth across the room. Then he got on the bed and stretched himself out over the boy again, and the boy
sneezed seven times and opened his
eyes.
And
Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his
eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the
eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and
chariots of fire round about
Elisha.
Then
Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his
eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the
eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and
chariots of fire all around
Elisha.
And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that
Elisha said, LORD, open the
eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their
eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
When they had entered Samaria,
Elisha said, “O LORD, open the
eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their
eyes, and they looked around and discovered that they were in Samaria.
Then a lord on whose hand the king
leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine
eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
But the officer on whose arm the king
leaned answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” “You will see it with your own
eyes,” replied
Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it.”
And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
And the officer had answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” So
Elisha had replied, “You will see it with your own
eyes, but you will not eat any of it!”
And when
Jehu was come to
Jezreel,
Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and
tired her head, and looked out at a window.
Now when
Jehu arrived in
Jezreel,
Jezebel heard of it. So she painted her
eyes, adorned her head, and looked down from a window.
And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to
Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt
bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine
eyes.
So the palace
administrator, the
overseer of the city, the elders, and the guardians sent a message to
Jehu: “We are your servants, and we will do whatever you say. We will not make
anyone king. Do whatever is good in your sight.”
And the LORD said unto
Jehu, Because thou hast done well in
executing that which is right in mine
eyes, and hast done unto the house of
Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
Nevertheless, the LORD said to
Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in My sight and have done to the house of
Ahab all that was in My heart, four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel.”
And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest
instructed him.
And
Joash did what was right in the
eyes of the LORD all the days he was
instructed by Jehoiada the priest.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as
Joash his father did.
And he did what was right in the
eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had done. He did everything as his father
Joash had done.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah had done;
And he did what was right in the
eyes of the LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had done.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done.
Twenty years old was
Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the
eyes of the LORD his God.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine
eyes, and see: and hear the words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
Whom hast thou reproached and
blasphemed? and against whom hast thou
exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine
eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
Whom have you
taunted and
blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your
eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your
eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
