I counsel thee to
buy of me gold tried in the
fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and
anoint thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
I counsel you to
buy from Me gold refined by
fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and
salve to
anoint your eyes so that you may see.
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the
first voice which I heard was as it were of a
trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up
hither, and I will
shew thee things which must be
hereafter.
After this I looked and saw a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had previously heard speak to me like a
trumpet was saying, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after these things.”
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
From the throne came
flashes of
lightning, and rumblings, and peals of
thunder. Before the throne burned seven torches of
fire. These are the seven Spirits of God.
And the
first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a
calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
The
first living creature was like a lion, the second like a
calf, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.
And the angel took the
censer, and filled it with
fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an
earthquake.
The
first angel sounded, and there followed
hail and
fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
Then the
first angel sounded his
trumpet, and
hail and
fire mixed with blood were
hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all the green grass.
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
Then the second angel sounded his
trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with
fire was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood,
One
woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more
hereafter.
The
first woe has passed. Behold, two woes are still to follow.
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of
fire, and of
jacinth, and
brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued
fire and smoke and
brimstone.
Now the horses and riders in my vision looked like this: The riders had breastplates the colors of
fire,
sapphire, and sulfur. The heads of the horses were like the heads of lions, and out of their mouths proceeded
fire, smoke, and sulfur.
By these three was the third part of men killed, by the
fire, and by the smoke, and by the
brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that proceeded from their mouths.
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a
rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of
fire:
Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven,
wrapped in a cloud, with a
rainbow above his head. His face was like the sun, and his legs were like pillars of
fire.
And if any man will
hurt them,
fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will
hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
If
anyone wants to
harm them,
fire proceeds from their mouths and devours their enemies. In this way,
anyone who wants to
harm them must be killed.
And he exerciseth all the power of the
first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the
first beast, whose deadly wound was
healed.
And this beast exercised all the authority of the
first beast and caused the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the
first beast, whose
mortal wound had been
healed.
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
And the second beast performed great signs to cause even fire from heaven to come down to earth in the presence of the people.
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the
first beast, it
deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
The second beast was permitted to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed.
These are they which were not
defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb
whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the
firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
These are the ones who have not been
defiled with women, for they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They have been redeemed from among men as
firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his
indignation; and he shall be
tormented with
fire and
brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
he too will drink the wine of God’s anger, poured undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he will be
tormented in
fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over
fire; and
cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp
sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp
sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
Still another angel, with authority over the
fire, came from the altar and called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp
sickle, “
Swing your sharp
sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vine of the earth, because its grapes are ripe.”
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with
fire: and them that had
gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, beside which stood those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name. They were holding harps from God,
And the
first went, and poured out his
vial upon the earth; and there fell a
noisome and
grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
So the
first angel went and poured out his
bowl on the earth, and
loathsome,
malignant sores broke out on those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.
And the fourth angel poured out his
vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to
scorch men with
fire.
Then the fourth angel poured out his
bowl on the sun, and it was given power to
scorch the people with
fire.
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall
hate the
whore, and shall make her
desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with
fire.
And the ten horns and the beast that you saw will
hate the
prostitute. They will leave her
desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and burn her with
fire.
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and
mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with
fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
Therefore her plagues will come in one day— death and grief and famine— and she will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
And the kings of the earth, who have committed
fornication and lived
deliciously with her, shall
bewail her, and
lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Then the kings of the earth who committed sexual immorality and lived in
luxury with her will
weep and
wail at the sight of the smoke rising from the
fire that consumes her.
And
cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
and cry out at the sight of the smoke rising from the
fire that consumes her. “What city was ever like this great city?” they will
exclaim.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
He has eyes like
blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name written on Him that only He Himself knows.
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he
deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of
fire burning with
brimstone.
But the beast was captured along with the false prophet, who on its behalf had performed signs
deceiving those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both the beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into the
fiery lake of burning sulfur.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete. This is the first resurrection.
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and
fire came down from God out of heaven, and
devoured them.
And they marched across the broad
expanse of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. But
fire came down from heaven and consumed them.
And the devil that
deceived them was cast into the lake of
fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And the devil who had
deceived them was thrown into the lake of
fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false prophet had already been thrown. There they will be
tormented day and night
forever and ever.
And death and
hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death.
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire.
And
whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of
fire.
And if
anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of
fire.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with
fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
But to the
cowardly and unbelieving and
abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with
fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
The foundations of the city walls were adorned with every kind of precious stone: The
first foundation was
jasper, the second
sapphire, the third
chalcedony, the fourth
emerald,
I am
Alpha and
Omega, the beginning and the end, the
first and the last.
I am the
Alpha and the
Omega, the
First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
And Josias held the feast of the
passover in Jerusalem unto his Lord, and offered the
passover the
fourteenth day of the
first month;
And they
roasted the
passover with
fire, as appertaineth: as for the sacrifices, they
sod them in brass pots and pans with a good savour,
As for the house of the Lord, they burnt it, and
brake down the walls of Jerusalem, and set
fire upon her towers:
In the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, that the word of the Lord might be accomplished, that he had promised by the mouth of Jeremy;
The first wrote, Wine is the strongest.
And he said unto them, Declare unto us your mind concerning the writings. Then began the first, who had spoken of the strength of wine;
Who spake wise sentences before
Darius the king of Persia in the second year of his reign, in the month
Nisan, which is the
first month.
But when the seventh month was at hand, and when the children of Israel were every man in his own place, they came all together with one consent into the open place of the first gate which is toward the east.
And all they that had made any
vow to God began to offer sacrifices to God from the
first day of the seventh month, although the temple of the Lord was not yet built.
And they laid the foundation of the house of God in the
first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come to
Jewry and Jerusalem.
But in the first year that king Cyrus reigned over the country of Babylon Cyrus the king wrote to build up this house.
In the first year of the reign of Cyrus king Cyrus commanded that the house of the Lord at Jerusalem should be built again, where they do sacrifice with continual fire:
And the children of Israel that were of the captivity held the
passover the
fourteenth day of the
first month, after that the priests and the Levites were
sanctified.
In the seventh year of the reign of Artexerxes, in the fifth month, this was the king’s seventh year; for they went from Babylon in the first day of the first month, and came to Jerusalem, according to the prosperous journey which the Lord gave them.
And from the river Theras we departed the
twelfth day of the
first month, and came to Jerusalem by the mighty hand of our Lord, which was with us: and from the beginning of our journey the Lord delivered us from every enemy, and so we came to Jerusalem.
And
Esdras the priest chose unto him the principal men of their families, all by name: and in the
first day of the tenth month they sat together to examine the matter.
So their cause that held strange wives was brought to an end in the first day of the first month.
And the priests and Levites, and they that were of Israel, dwelt in Jerusalem, and in the country, in the first day of the seventh month: so the children of Israel were in their habitations.
So
Esdras the chief priest brought the law unto the whole multitude from man to woman, and to all the priests, to hear law in the
first day of the seventh month.
Then took
Esdras the book of the law before the multitude: for he sat honourably in the
first place in the sight of them all.
I gave you light in a
pillar of
fire, and great wonders have I done among you; yet have ye forgotten me, saith the Lord.
I gave you not fire for your blasphemies, but cast a tree in the water, and made the river sweet.
Wheresoever thou findest the dead, take them and
bury them, and I will give thee the
first place in my resurrection.
And it happened, that when they that dwelt upon the earth began to multiply, and had
gotten them many children, and were a great people, they began again to be more ungodly than the
first.
And thy glory went through four gates, of
fire, and of
earthquake, and of wind, and of cold; that thou mightest give the law unto the seed of Jacob, and
diligence unto the generation of Israel.
For the
first Adam bearing a wicked heart
transgressed, and was overcome; and so be all they that are born of him.
And I said, Tell on, my lord. Then said he unto me, Go thy way,
weigh me the weight of the
fire, or measure me the blast of the wind, or call me again the day that is past.
And he said unto me, If I should ask thee how great dwellings are in the midst of the sea, or how many springs are in the beginning of the deep, or how many springs are above the
firmament, or which are the outgoings of
paradise:
Nevertheless now have I asked thee but only of the
fire and wind, and of the day
wherethrough thou hast passed, and of things from which thou canst not be separated, and yet canst thou give me no answer of them.
The thought of the wood was in vain, for the fire came and consumed it.
Then said he unto me, Consider with
thyself; as the rain is more than the drops, and as the
fire is greater than the smoke; but the drops and the smoke remain behind: so the quantity which is past did more exceed.
There shall be a confusion also in many places, and the
fire shall be
oft sent out again, and the wild beasts shall change their places, and
menstruous women shall bring forth monsters:
And he said unto me, I will
liken my judgment unto a ring: like as there is no
slackness of the last, even so there is no swiftness of the
first.
Or ever the heights of the air were lifted up, before the measures of the
firmament were named, or ever the
chimneys in
Sion were hot,
Then answered I and said, What shall be the parting
asunder of the times? or when shall be the end of the
first, and the beginning of it that followeth?
And he said unto me, From Abraham unto Isaac, when Jacob and
Esau were born of him, Jacob’s hand held
first the
heel of
Esau.
And when the world, that shall begin to
vanish away, shall be finished, then will I
shew these
tokens: the books shall be opened before the
firmament, and they shall see all together:
For my spirit was greatly set on fire, and my soul was in distress.
And I said, O Lord, thou spakest from the beginning of the creation, even the first day, and saidst thus; Let heaven and earth be made; and thy word was a perfect work.
Upon the second day thou madest the spirit of the
firmament, and commandedst it to part
asunder, and to make a division
betwixt the waters, that the one part might go up, and the other remain beneath.
But we thy people, whom thou hast called thy
firstborn, thy only
begotten, and thy
fervent lover, are given into their hands.
The entrance thereof is narrow, and is set in a dangerous place to fall, like as if there were a fire on the right hand, and on the left a deep water:
And one only path between them both, even between the fire and the water, so small that there could but one man go there at once.
Then said I, Abraham prayed
first for the Sodomites, and Moses for the fathers that
sinned in the wilderness:
I answered then and said, This is my
first and last saying, that it had been better not to have given the earth unto Adam: or else, when it was given him, to have restrained him from
sinning.
For when the body is fashioned now in the mother’s
womb, and thou givest it members, thy creature is preserved in
fire and water, and nine months
doth thy
workmanship endure thy creature which is created in her.
Whose service is
conversant in wind and
fire; whose word is true, and sayings constant; whose commandment is strong, and
ordinance fearful;
For out of her came all at the first, and out of her shall all others come, and, behold, they walk almost all into destruction, and a multitude of them is utterly rooted out.
Where is Uriel the angel, who came unto me at the
first? for he hath caused me to fall into many trances, and mine end is turned into corruption, and my prayer to
rebuke.
And it happened, that when it reigned, the end of it came also, like as the first, so that it appeared no more.
And the second was sooner away than the first.
And
whensoever the voice went out of his mouth, all they burned that heard his voice, like as the earth faileth when it feeleth the
fire.
But only I saw that he sent out of his mouth as it had been a blast of fire, and out of his lips a flaming breath, and out of his tongue he cast out sparks and tempests.
And they were all mixed together; the blast of
fire, the flaming breath, and the great
tempest; and fell with violence upon the multitude which was prepared to fight, and burned them up every one, so that upon a sudden of an innumerable multitude nothing was to be perceived, but only dust and smell of smoke: when I saw this I was afraid.
And whereas thou sawest, that out of his mouth there came as a blast of wind, and fire, and storm;
Then opened I my mouth, and, behold, he reached me a full cup, which was full as it were with water, but the colour of it was like fire.
And it came to pass, when the forty days were filled, that the Highest spake, saying, The
first that thou hast written
publish openly, that the worthy and unworthy may read it:
The
fire is gone forth from his wrath, and hath consumed the foundations of the earth, and the sinners, like the straw that is
kindled.
Fire, and
hail, and flying swords, and many waters, that all fields may be full, and all rivers, with the abundance of great waters.
And thou shalt be cast down by them as
stubble, and they shall be unto thee as
fire;
And shall
consume thee, and thy cities, thy land, and thy mountains; all thy woods and thy fruitful trees shall they burn up with
fire.
A
fire is sent among you, and who may
quench it?
